Kaiverta Posted August 16, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2017 I will soon be sketching an Au Ra! Woohoo! But I wanted to ask (and this seems like the best forum for it?), does anyone know exactly where those horns attach to? It APPEARS like they're attached to maybe the jaw line, or just under the bottom of where human ears would be, sort of? Wanna make sure I get it right. Link to comment

They attach at the point as human ear canal would be -- the actual opening of the ear itself. If you need a reference, use the Character create in-game and go with the "conch" face (you can see it in my avatar) and the really short hair which came out with Stormblood (which has one side braided/shaved). 1 Link to comment
Six Posted August 17, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2017 I draw mine stemming from where the ear canal generally is and if they're big wide boys they might extend into the jaw and temple. At least for the root of it. Can go crazy with curves and swirls and all that leading away - I don't stick terribly close to in-game models when I draw because something something creative liberties something something AESTHETIC. I've seen people draw Au Ra with multiple horns even and know some hairstyles give you additional nubbins so I don't quite know how that works with the horn=ear thing. Maybe just built up scales? 1 Link to comment

Kaiverta Posted August 17, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted August 17, 2017 Thanks everyone. All your answers helped a lot. It DOES look like they're sorta anchored to the ear canal either singularly, or along with an anchor point on the jawline. Woohoo. Link to comment

Partially the reason for the multiple horns has been from the various little hair styles that have them BUT; it's also in part to the concept art which was quite lovely. But yeah this is about right, it's how I've drawn them as well generally in the vicinity. 1 Link to comment
