Super shy but... Hello!

Hii! I'm Marina! Been wanting to start out rp in this game for a long time, but have always been too anxious and shy to do so. I'm so worried I'll mess up in game as I've always roleplayed in the form of chats (or places such as tumblr). Most of the time with my ffxiv ocs I just stick to drawing or roleplaying amongst me and a friend, though I really desperately want to meet new people. 

 

I know Balmung's opening up again next week and may just give transferring there a go, though I am terrified to go there alone as I know nobody there, never once have I tried in game roleplay and I'm so scared to mess up!  

 

On another note I play on Lich, so if there's any rpers out there on that server, I would loooove to know. It's so lonely here. ;_;

I'm sure if you decide to go to Balmung, you'll find plenty of people to RP with. The trick is to just jump right into it and not worry too much. There's not much to mess up, really!

Your English looks really good, and you've already RP'd in other places, right? It isn't that much different, although I remember the first few times I roleplayed on WoW in the past - I was scared shitless and everyone seemed to type so fast and I had no idea what I was doing. :'D But with a bit of experience, it got easier. Found a few friends, some of which I'm still friends with 10 years later.

The point of this little reminiscing was... that be brave and go for it. Maybe toss a Making Connections post on the forums, and you might get lucky with some nice folks to give you an easy entry to the community on whatever server you pick  Wherever you go, good luck and have fun!

Aaa, I suppose! I just have major anxiety troubles, and I'm so nervous to get in there and give it a try in fear that if I fail, I'll feel so bad altogether that I'll never give it another shot. That and am just worried my character isn't interesting or will make people roll their eyes if I put myself out there. I guess these are all things I'll get over once I get into it-- but taking that first step is always the hardest! 

 

I also worry for how people can type so fast in a rp setting, mainly because I get so nervous that I spend about 5 minutes trying to find the right way to reply to something. English is not my first language, but I do speak it fluently enough that I shouldn't have such a problem... at least I hope so.

I of course agree with everything Xihsa'li said, and as for "taking the first step", I think that explaining to people your problems (anxiety, fear to fail, etc) is actually some form of first step? This way you already inform other RPers how they should approach you to make you feel better. If I know I'm about to RP with someone anxious and self-conscious about their language/typing skill, I immediately set my mind into gear to accomodate them as much as possible, and to help them out any way I can. ^^

Your English already seems excellent to me, all you need is a friend or two that can accompany you into the world of RP in my opinion.
On Omega, with have a super friendly community of people who usually go far and beyond their reach to help newbies out!

But welcome to the site! I hope you can find some great RP. At the very least, everyone I've met so far on these forums has been friendly and helpful, so don't feel too afraid.

Sometimes the greatest adventurer's in life and in this silly virtual space is taking the plunge into the unknown. You may find yourself surrounded by many great surprises, good friends and possibly even more joyous occasions by just taking that chance and putting yourself out there (on which you've already done!). Plus I wouldn't worry to much about what people think but rather watch how they engage you. Typing speed aside, you'll find a lot of roleplayer's here are also equally as patient. I think that's the biggest draw to an RP focused Hub, most of us are ambassador's to slow and easy because we enjoy a good story.
