I love the 'Stretch' emote! I was spamming it and taking screenshots for siggy earlier. There's a Soothe, ThumbsUp, and several others. You can always see people playing around with these. Sipipi (or w/e her name is) really seems to like them too.

:P

As an afterthought (postcount+1go!!), I really would like to see them link the emotes to slashes like they did in FFXI so that they can be executed from the runline. I'm sure this is 'coming soon', but going through the menu is a tedious process (especially with so many emotes to choose from, and they're not exactly well-alphabetized!!). I have wanted to do a simple /wave emote to someone's name I recognized from the RPC forums as they ran by, but by the time I got the menu up and found the emote, they were way out of range.

orz :frustrated:

Yeah we're still waiting on the job-specific emotes they promised about 3 updates ago...

And of those 34, I think a few of them are the same animations (i.e. /wave /farewell)

It's true that the first few levels are crucial but... really? Make it -more- accessible? You get level 10 in a single evening as it is, what are they gonna do? Make people start level 10? :P

I'm surprised there's even still people taking the trial.. the game is popular sure, but it's old. If I was about to play my first mmo, I'd go for one of the most recent ones.

The thing to realize about WoW I think, is that you can't really compare it to other MMOs in many ways. A lot of the players there are WoW-players, not MMO-players. They're not really gamers, World of Warcraft is the only thing they really play, and they're not going to move to another game.

WoW has become mainstream. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it means that a ton of people there are not really interested in the game genre, only in THAT game. It's also the MMO that has been talked about the most outside of the MMO-community, so there will be a lot of people checking it out, probably for a while still.

That is also the reason I've always found it silly to talk about a WoW-killer, cause from what I see, it's not really possible, unless another game gets that mainstream status that WoW have/had.

I'm not sure where exactly I'm going with this, I guess I'm just trying to say that WoW, and a lot of WoW players, are different than most other MMOs, and it's different people who are playing. There are lots of MMO players playing WoW, sure, but there's also tons of people who will never try anything else.

And because of those tons of people, there's another ton of people who want to try it out, but probably don't really have an interest in MMORPGs, so they don't make it very far, because it CAN be confusing when you first log in. I think that might be one of the reasons why so many doesn't make it past level 10.

And let's not forget all the level 1 goldspammers. They have to make a pretty decent chunk of those accounts too <.<

This is an excellent point and I agree with you 100%. To emphasize on that point, most everyone who passes by my Electronics department in my store knows what World of Warcraft is. I even have shopper moms stop by and pick up the cards. However, they couldn't tell you the title of another game... period. The game has entered the realm of popularity with other legendary socially accepted gaming titles such as Halo and Guitar Hero/RockBand. The community puts these on a pedestal and they have become a staple of what people look for. So yes, I agree wholeheartedly that another MMO would first have to branch out and become globally renown before it can even think about dethroning World of Warcraft. Old as it is, it's still easy to learn and fun for the general public, which everyone can relate to, and because it has secured its place already that means that its just an uphill battle for any new challengers from the get go (Though I believe FFXIV has potential).
