I don't know if i'm the only one (I'm sure I'm not :P ) but I think Blamung and Gilgamesh should become the officials Roleplay servers. Either that or they should add 1 or 2 NEW ''Official'' Rolepay servers (since server transfer might be free for the first time)

I think you guys know why;

- All the HATE

- The TROLLS

- The Abuse

I know even if we get new servers we are going to get hate and trolls but its going to be easier to deal with and report.

This is a dead horse by now.

Besides, an official RP server won't have any less hate, trolls, or abuse. Possibly even more.

I've been in over a dozen different MMORPG's and the ones without an official RP servers were by far the most RP-friendly because without having the assumptions of RP-friendliness the RPers seem to stand by each other more and work harder to build a community. Also, the trolls don't have as much of a clear painted target for trolling.

At this point, I hope things don't change and I don't believe they will.

It should be noted that I have yet to see any troll, hate or abuse on either Balmung or Gilgamesh... but I know some others haven't been so lucky.

If WoW is anything to go by, an official RP server won't change that at all. I have my problems with Gilgamesh but a lot of people will have made friends there by now and a lot of good arguments were made in favour of a shared server - mainly that it means that players don't have to make two different characters or choose between RP and very serious play. Given how the game is very built around levelling one character in everything rather than individual characters in a few things, that's a big plus.

We're not going to get the current servers made official - there ARE two very big communities on them who would likely be vocally against that. An official server would be nice in a very, very long-term sense (I am talking in months if not years here), but a lot of people may well have put down roots already now it's been two weeks.

Yeah that's right I ended up playing on a private All GM RP Server for few years.

Oh ho ho yes  I think we all had a pleasant surprise yesterday at the Gala (on Balmung)

I don't know much about private servers! I was talking the official ones, and the EU ones to be specific. Not sure if the US ones were better or worse. In short, there were an awful lot of trolls there.

I remember giving up after the eighth or ninth person to go *GRABS UR TITS* before I ever actually found an RPer and going to a non-RP server with a friend to play privately instead.

I don't know about the others, but Ravenholdt is/was amazing for RP. With an officially sanctioned RP server, you also have an avenue for recourse if your RP is getting griefed or for reporting names (which I have gotten results from).

I don't care either way. I've played WoW for about 8 years, and i've had my problems on all realm i've tried. Trolls populate anywhere they can find prey. Though, i didn't get into rp on WoW till recently, i paid to move all my characters to Wyrmrest Accord, only to be met with a poor community, and more trolls then Rpers. At one time, i took a one year hiatus entirely. Rp, to me, is my only purpose for playing most mmo's. But that is because most MMo's are similiar. On WoW, i bought back into when MoP was released, because i loved the RP aspect of the neutral pandaren, and the heavy philosophical monks. But of course, it created more trolls to hate on "furries". So that enthusiasm didn't last long. I bought and tried to play FF11, but my knowledge of FF lore etc is lacking. Not to mention Forced Party Progression is tough, with most people being ***es online. It doesn't seem to be forced on ARR, plus the community so far is more friendly, aside from the occasional troll. But because it's different then what i'm used to, i was drawn to FFXIV:ARR. I haven't had a chance to try Balmung, because i figured there starting areas would be empty on Legacy Servers. But i'm tired of false News updates on character restrictions. I've been waiting for days to catch Balmung open to new character creation. They just updated the list as 11am PDT stating Balmung was open, but in-game it is not. I logged into Gilgamesh, but i didn't see a single roleplayer. Just a lot of bull, gil spammers, and typical haters.. If Gilgamesh has rp, where is it? High level zones? Why no love for Gridania etc.  #sadpanda

I don't really think the 'RP' tag brings much benefit to a server in this day and age, especially since resources are very rarely put into actually enforcing that tag to any major extent. Role-players are incredibly resourceful and will forge strong communities in MMO's even when there's no designated servers for role-play. The developers have given us plenty of brilliant features to use in role-play, so it's not as if we're being forgotten about. I love the ability to be able to sit down on whatever chair I stumble across in the game world!

Given that it's a "Legacy" server from the older days, I think Balmung isn't going to get opened again barring some major redistribution of server populations. However, I've had good luck getting on Gilgamesh more often than not these days. That's probably going to become my "main" server for right now.

The one thing that WoW did do that I wish FFXIV would allow is addons. That way I can actually DESCRIBE my character in a wee bit more detail. Of course, given that it's released for both PC and PS3... I doubt that'll ever happen due to the complexity of coding addons to work for both platforms. I think this smiley says it all about what would happen if they tried.

However, I did run across some open-world RP earlier tonight in Linda Lomasa courtesy of Driftwood Coast members. And there's a LFRP Linkshell that isn't listed here, but keep an eye out for announcements about how to join. RP exists, but it's easiest to find a starting point here instead of wading through the masses hoping upon hope.

Balmung's been open for character creation periodically since the Big Maintenance, actually. It's mostly open during the mornings, early afternoons, and early mornings US time.

Ravenholdt -was- a great place to RP years ago. Back when PVP was a standard for conflict and virtually everyone, even people who hated the guild, followed the 'Alaskinaroth Rules of Conflict'. The shadow wars, the PVP duels, the dedication... Geez, it was just impressive. Maybe Alliance side is better but when last I checked, Ravenholdt wasn't very good anymore. It imploded after the revival of the Convocation of Silvermoon, when so many Belf houses started up. Then the major Orc clan on the server died and the Shadowtusk Clan moved to Wyrmrest Accord, where I'd already moved. After that it was a mass exodus.

The only trolls I ever encountered in the couple years I played on WrA were recently, after Moonguard and WrA were joined together. Anytime I was sitting anywhere RPing with anyone or any number of anyones, people from Moonguard undoubtedly showed up to sit on our faces and make poorly-spelled commentary.

Yet to see any in FFXIV.

This. I am 100% with this! I personally haven't found any abuse or hate or trolling at all on Balmung. In fact, I was RPing a rather mushy gooey 'D'aw dats adorable' scene on a rock in the North Shroud. And some guy actually whispered me, cause he was leveling Botany, and was within range of our emotes and pretty much said. "That was an extremely sweet read, thank you for making this so much better."

My experiences are obviously not like everyone elses, but if we smack a 'RP' server label on Balmung / Gilgamesh. I just view it as more of a target for trolls. Our community is -massive- as we've seen with the Gala, and I'm sure there's a bunch more that couldn't make it, or didn't even know! We don't need a label, because we've established a footing and gotten comfy here already.

In personal opinion, if they opened up new server, specifically for RP. I wouldn't move at all. I'd keep my butt firmly cemented to Balmung, we've spent months prior to launch tip toeing around the server subject. My feet are in the water. I ain't moving!
