The server time has never made any sense whatsoever. Ignore it. This is an NA/EU server, hosted in Montreal. I, like you, can't be up late and haven't had a shortage of RP yet. I think your best bet would be to join an Intermission LS and start stopping by places listed in this sticky! I very frequently see RP going on in the adventurer guilds in the evenings as well.

I have made 2 attempts to show up at the Adventuring Guilds during the times specified. The first time all i found were naked men posing on the tables, not my bag. The second time, yesterday, i posted toward a few people that were rping for about an hour, but no one acknowledged. I wasn't about to whisper, i had that happen everyday for weeks in GW2, and found whispering only starts a fight.

The trolls are just as bad on A Realm Reborn, as they are on WoW. Don't you people have lives? I have to delete my favorite character now, because people choose to harrass me endlessly, and impede my Rp Progression. This is frustrating. This is the kind of bull that makes me want to just quit on Rp in MMO's all together.

There are going to be trolls no matter what you do in the game. Deleting a character won't fix anything. I simply add them to black list. You should also consider posting your characters name so we can find you in game ^^

All my characters names were on my profile, up till now. Since i deleted. If it was just one person, i wouldn't have deleted. But it was an entire linkshell being a-holes. I was going to deal with that many people trying to ruin it for me. All my characters names have been on my profile since i signed up in September, but no one ever contacts me. So i figured no one wanted to bother. Hundreds of people read this post, not receiving a single message/add; is depressing. Every time i join an FC or LS, it always ends up the same.

I don't really know what you're after.  People generally don't go to you begging for your participation.  If you want RP - or contacts - you're going to have to put yourself out there.  And you're going to need to understand that yes, there are trolls.  And yes, they are assholes.  And you can report them - and Square DOES do stuff about people who are verbally abusive.  And you can Blacklist them - and yes, you SHOULD.  And the excuse, "It was an entire Linkshell" doesn't really fly.  There are thousands of Linkshells on this server, and thousands of players.  So one group of 10ish people were being dicks.  That's like, a drop in the bucket.  This is a big server.  You're going to have trolls.

Gonna have to back up Lia on this.  Most people are going to assume that you aren't an RPer and if you do RP openly some people might not approach you because they don't want to interfere with your storyline.  If you're trying to avoid trolls or just are unsure of who to approach you could always look at the upcoming events, or take a look at the FC/LS list here on the site and just poke some of the members on occasion.

The truth is that RP happens in the game and you have to be there to find it. I don't really know many (any) people who scan people's profiles looking for characters to RP with.

 

My advice is join some of the Linkshells that seem to suit you and also get along to the events posted on this site. The events are really good, both Coffer and Coffin and Spreed Meeting doubly so.

Ok, i will squash this now. Since it seems people don't understand. I have gone in taverns, walked up to groups of people, etc. I have stood beside people in various venues, and posted things. I have been ignored, or walked away from. The people who don't yell at me for rudely butting in, have completely ignored my existence. It's the same problem i had in all my other MMOs before i quit. I'm either being called a troll, for trying to get in on people rping, who are standing around. Or the latter. Which is why I'm more passively searching for people now. I'm tired of the troll card, and ignoring. So i tried to change my tactic, hoping to get more positive responses. I know i have to put myself out there, and i have for years. But i have seen little good come from it. Which is why i was hoping this site would be of some help. I have only gotten PM's from two people from this site, in game. Both were rude to me, so they were blocked. But neither of them were you. If you added me, i would have been asked to confirm. I was never asked, so it wasn't me.

Have you joined any OOC Linkshells?  Like Intermission or Balmung's Finest?

I joined 3 linkshells so far, and all i have left or been kicked. People in these OOC linkshells are a-holes. They tell me the same thing, when i join. The last person i spoke to about a Linkshell ran by people from this site, they told me i wasn't allowed to join. Saying it was Exclusive to officers and FC owners only.

No, it wasn't intermission. I haven't gotten into intermission yet, or Balmungs Finest. It was 3 random OOC linkshells, one was for Rp Events; can't remember the names of the other 2. But i know it wasn't those, i haven't found anyone to add me to those ones yet.

Not really sure why you would suggest Balmung's Finest though. I just looked them up, they're a dungeon/raid Progression type LS. That's kind of useless for me. Rp is the only thing that is important to me in an MMO, i never even finished the dungeon/raid content in WOW and i was there for 8 years.

There are two sides to every coin.  

 

I have talked with and RPed with a LOT of people on this server, and have not once gotten the response you describe.  If you were kicked out of Linkshells, you need to look at what you could have possibly done wrong.  If you say "nothing", then that is the problem right there.  People don't want to RP with you for reasons that i'm sure they have.  It is far from a normal human reaction, especially for RPers, to collectively ignore someone for no reason at all. 

 

I don't know you, nor have I ever had any interactions with you, so I am in no way passing any judgement on you.  What i'm saying is maybe it is your actions that are driving people away from you.

 

If it smells like shit everywhere you go, maybe try looking under your own shoe.

I feel like I have been remiss in my duties, since Intermission is an ERP linkshell, apparently.

As explained in the shell, the erp conversation was joking. It fell in amongst a bunch of other -rp labels (larp, erp, etc), just people naming off stuff willy nilly. And the RP you were invited to was not erp, ALSO as explained in the shell... Heaven forbid someone remove clothing for any reason. I understand if you'd like to avoid things you find questionable, but instantly judging an entire group of people based on something so simple is rude.

 

Good luck with your shell, but please don't badmouth ours.

After a certain point, it'd seem you'd stop and wonder if it's not just every single possible person you meet but you yourself that is causing these reactions. Nobody else probably wants to say anything because it seems like it's starting a fight, but I'm only suggesting this for an introspective look at what you might be doing wrong.

 

Perhaps you're doing something particularly godmodey, metagamey, or similar that's getting everyone up in arms. Have you ever taken a Mary Sue test to try to determine whether you're making any newbie RPer mistakes somewhere? I ran into a Miqo'te the other day that had an invisible Egi (you can't make your Egi invisible; plus they don't move it to the side, so it sits there and flaps over your head annoyingly) which just so happens to be able to read minds or something, so she automatically knows everyone's name and who knows what else. Infringements on consent and such aside, that's just an annoying concept that gets on peoples' nerves.

 

Though if they're calling you a troll, it's entirely possible that the character you've decided to roll up is a particularly abrasive individual, or you yourself are. Not much you can do about the latter except try to restrain yourself, but you could try to temper the character to be less so. Or it could also be mixing IC/OOC in some manner, such as having your OOC personality being your character's IC personality.

 

This is probably where most people would offer to take you under their wing and mentor you on your RP, telling you where you're going wrong and such, but eh... I'm kinda lazy. There's a mentorship program on the RPC that might be able to give you that kinda support though.

I've been in Intermisson since version 1.0 of the game. And while I may not utilize it much myself personally, I listen in on a lot of what happens over it. Sorry, but I never see the things you've claimed to see, OP. I'm going to take a guess and say the problem may come down to your own take on things moreso than any shell in its entirety. You have stated previously that you have the same problem everywhere you go, including other MMO's. Does that not indicate that perhaps you're doing something wrong (like being overly aggressive, godmoding, and/or not trying hard enough)? It's hard to believe that the ENTIRE RP community in every MMO is in the wrong. I'd suggest examining your own behavior and trying to see what you could possibly be doing wrong, rather than blame everyone else around you.

 

You're more than welcome to make your own OOC linkshell. But doing so at the expense of trashing others is not acceptable. When making a new linkshell or trying to recruit for one, simply sell what it is. Don't use other linkshells as a base for what it isn't.

 

I see RP everywhere I go in passing. So I have a hard time taking anyone seriously when they say they can't find it anywhere. I'd highly advise joining a RP linkshell (not an OOC one, an IC one) that's compatible with your character and with you, and starting your network building and character development there. Sometimes it's not the best route to just attempt RPing with anyone and everyone you stumble across, because not everyone shares the same RP styles.
