Kat Posted May 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2014 Hi! I'm Kat I wanted to try out a new game, mainly because I miss RP in MMOs. I'm willing to learn all the Lore, I have played previous FF games and everything. Anyhoo, how is the RP? The housing? What goes on, are there any plots or certain guilds I should know about (or should I learn on my own? lol) Thank you! xo Kat ♥ Link to comment

I think the RP in this game is pretty good, and I think the community is as well. There is no official RP server, but Balmung and Gilgamesh are the unofficial ones. As far as RP guilds, (they are called Free Companies in this game) there are lots of them, all with their various plots and problems. Just by RPing, you'll come into contact with many of them. The housing is kind of problematic at the moment because it is only for FCs, and only relatively wealthy FCs can afford one. Personal housing should be coming soon though. 1 Link to comment

Kage Posted May 30, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 30, 2014 There tends to be hot spots but if you walk around any of the three major cities I'm sure you would find RP. Ul'dah tends to get a lot of it and I do believe Limsa Lominsa does as well. Link to comment
Askier Posted May 30, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 30, 2014 A personal confession here. The only reason I still pay the fee is for rp. I started playing in Febuary and the game play never grabbed me. I still, after 4 months, don't have a max level class or much gil. Why? Because the community is amazing and the rp is fantastic and I spend most of my time in game rping. I totally think the game is worth the price for the rp alone. and the fact that there is a good mmo tied to the rp is just icing on a delicious cake. Link to comment

There are two reasons I level at all: 1) RP clothes, 2) goofing off with friends. If personal housing or whatever requires level 50 then that'd be another reason, but right now most of the time when I log in I'm rping. (also yesss, yesss ,come to Limsa! Limsa is fabulous! ) Link to comment
TheLastCandle Posted May 30, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 30, 2014 Ul'dah is better =p If you like stone, sand, and plenty of dim lighting - yes! Yes, it is! Link to comment
Askier Posted May 30, 2014 Share #10 Posted May 30, 2014 Ul'dah is better =p If you like stone, sand, and plenty of dim lighting - yes! Yes, it is! But Limsa smells like dead fish.... lol Link to comment
Melkire Posted May 30, 2014 Share #11 Posted May 30, 2014 U'ldah has a sultana. Limsa has an alien. Ul'dah has a barmaid PC. Limsa has a waitress NPC. U'ldah has Sapphire Avenue Exchange, a.k.a. the most efficient, lag-free, and user-friendly bazaar ever. Limsa has Hawker's Alley, a.k.a. Jita 2.0 Ul'dah has an in-character law enforcement linkshell, and numerous associated PCs. Limsa has nothin' but crime. I'd name names, but they'd shank me. Ul'dah's very architecture and layout supports spying. Limsa's... listen, you can't spy for shit, the angles are all wrong. I think the winner is clear here. (clearly the answer is to move to Gridania where Crisiet will stalk love you forever) Link to comment

But Limsa smells like dead fish.... lol Heck yeah it does! Plus there's the ocean, which is a fascinating and wondrous place. And pirates, and sailors, and the dockside tangle, and cliffs, and Mealvaan's Gate and somuchfunstufftoplaywith! (I grew up taking fishing/camping trips to places around Anchorage, Valdez, Seward and Homer -- sure, you sometimes get that oceany-fishy-dead-things smell, but it's a good sort of stink! You must embrace it!) *cough* Also Osric -- that's exactly what makes it fun, you weener! Maybe someday someone will want to play the peacekeeping side of things, but until then -- criminals for daaaaays. Link to comment

And don't say it's because Limsa is so great no one would want to cause that's a lie! it's cause there's nothing there worth blowing up. =p Link to comment

Roen Posted May 30, 2014 Share #19 Posted May 30, 2014 Kat, the only reason I pay the monthly fee for this game IS for the RP. As others have said here. Yes I dabble into PVE for pretty things, but without RP, I would not play this game. The community is wonderful, and people I have ran into are fantastic. And the more I run into different characters, more I feel like it is a community because everyone seems to be involved in multiple plots which all somehow... can be weaved together through seven degrees of... *thinks*... Osric. He's the guy with the hand in MOST cookie jars that I can think of at this moment. And as for cities, there are RPs to be found in any city. My preference of course is Ul'Dah for the layout, the corruption that is just ingrained into its history, and because my character is a Sultansworn. But I have RPed in both Limsa and Gridania as well and both are very beautiful and idyllic settings on their own. I'd say give it a try! I think you will have a blast. 1 Link to comment

FreelanceWizard Posted May 30, 2014 Share #21 Posted May 30, 2014 Unlike some posters, I actually really love the gameplay of XIV, but I also do a lot of RP. In fact, I've turned down doing game stuff for RP -- that's how good the RP typically is. There's certainly nothing wrong with subscribing just for the RP, and with the vibrant RP community, you'll find yourself having a lot of fun. Link to comment
Ildur Posted May 30, 2014 Share #22 Posted May 30, 2014 I left the game some time ago because I found myself never actually looking forward to the gameplay bits, and because Square Enix made some decisions I don't actually like. But yes, the roleplaying was pretty good. I don't recall having any bad scenes or meetings with people. So there's that. And I had fun levelling, at least. But I feel like someone should mention that the vanity/glamour system is locked at level 50. Allow me to be that guy: the vanity/glamour system is locked at level 50. Link to comment
111 Posted May 31, 2014 Share #23 Posted May 31, 2014 The glamour system is locked, but there is no reason to glamour for RP, just wear the clothes. I only glamour my PVE stuff, because my stats don't matter for RP. 1 Link to comment
Faye Posted May 31, 2014 Share #24 Posted May 31, 2014 Hey there! The RP is great, at least if you know where to look! RP is 75% of the reason why I subscribe myself. If you end up on Balmung, Harbingers of Dawn would be happy to have you! We're a med-heavy RP FC with lots of different plots going on! We have a company house and the housing is really pretty cool. If you want open world RP, the best place to check will be the Adventurer's Guild of each of the three major cities. Link to comment
