Gerik Knox Posted January 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2015 I was finally hustled into trying the game, and here I am. But I probably wouldn't have given it a chance were it not for the positive things I've heard about the community. Enjoyment and longevity of an MMO always comes back to that above all else. My Balmung main is the same as my forum handle. As to character archetype and drafting, I've already got a good idea of that. A workable backstory will be my bane as always. As to experience, I'm probably split down the middle on forum-based and in-game RP, even a bit of table top. I can't really show a preference for either of the former two. Clearly there's greater room for expression and storytelling on forums, though true cooperative storytelling is a bit cumbersome without everyone in lockstep to a chat buffer. Elaborating on which MMOs I've roleplayed in: City of Villains - So very briefly. Champions Online - Too many years, for better or worse, broken up with hiatuses here and there. Light to heavy RP; ran events and story arcs for anywhere from 4 to 30+ players in attendance. Guild Wars 2 (Tarnished Coast) - ...barely. Didn't dig the lore, but still love the world PVP to death. Archeage (Tahyang) - Mostly on forums, lots of lore-building, from late alpha to a couple months post-launch. Great source material, but a punishing game to actually play. At any rate, looking forward to testing the waters. Link to comment

Kamome Posted January 22, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 22, 2015 Welcome to Balmung, Gerik! What job and starting city did you choose? I was on Tarnished Coast in GW2 as well! Couldn't really get in to the lore, myself, either. I played GW1 and really preferred the world state in that game over GW2's. Good times, though. Link to comment

Gerik Knox Posted January 23, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted January 23, 2015 Ah, I do remember seeing The American Spirit here and there. Towards the end I think I mostly played Counterstrike, Knox, and Whiplash. Link to comment
