  1. Hey Lamiaris, while you won't find any sort of consensus about what is and isn't accepted as a whole as every little group has their own rules, I would also encourage you to be up front with folks you're looking to have long term roleplay with about your character concept. I have to admit I'm sort of curious about what prompted this question from you as well! What aspect of interdimensional characters was appealing to you and why the interest in the concept? All Roleplay is just make believe and if you know and can zero in on why you want to try certain things it doesn't really matter what other people are doing as long as you and the people you're playing with are all on the same page and cool with it. To the tangent of crossover canonicity, I personally think they fall into this gray area but are not part of the main XIV canon or story. The lore team and localizers do the best to justify them but as a whole the point is to have fun and to justice to both games tone more than the minutia. When I am playing a cross over event the point is to enjoy some 4th wall leaning fun and some silly justification for a minion or a new glamour item. That doesn't really evoke the same mindset as going through the main quest or world building details of other parts of the setting. Playing an MMO requires various degrees of suspending disbelief when dealing with other people or interacting with the fundamental gameplay elements. When I see people riding around in the Yokai Watch mount it does take me out of an immersive mood a bit and a few lines during the cross over quest doesn't make it any less silly or out of place. It's a piece of something from another franchise entirely with real world context. It also never comes up again, the Yokai Watch is never going to be a relevant event for our characters and the pieces are never going to come into play again so I'd debate it's actually not canon. MMOs are by nature flimsy and it takes more than a reference or joke to be part of canon.
  2. I know plenty of characters who are single heterosexual males who's players ask the same questions of where all the straight women are. I've never seen anyone act repulsed by heterosexual pairings or found a dearth of straight males who I go looking for them! I don't know how large the Rp community is over on Brynhildr but with how many people there are on Balmung and Mateus it just seems to me a matter of statistics, there's bound to be plenty of fish in the sea you just might not be looking for them the right way. It sounds like you're interested in something a bit more meaningful than a hookup so by all means you should try to make a making connections post here or elsewhere that might be seen by the sort of folks you want to Rp with. Romance aside, you really have to start looking for the sort of Rp you want regardless of what it is if you want to make good use of your time, waiting around or hoping to bump into the right person has never really suited me as a method for finding good and rewarding roleplay.
  3. Hi there Kona! Sorry to hear you had some trouble with OOC blending. Romance RP can be difficult to find a good match for. I'm a big fan of it myself since one of my guilty pleasures tends to be romance novels and romcoms so naturally that informs some of my roleplay preferences. It might help your responses if you went into a little more detail on the character side of things for what sort of relationship you were looking to play and something about your character as a hook for people. Without stating what sort of character Kona is you could be getting hits from anyone and might just lead to a not good fit later on down the line. And I hope this does not come off wrong but I do think expecting an RP partner to be available every day is a bit much of an ask. There are tons of folks on Mateus to branch out and meet and interact with for when your potential RP partner either can't be there because of RL occurrences or just is feeling burned out at the moment. As someone who also enjoys long form relationship RP requiring daily RP might do more harm than good for your overall experience just to add my two cents. Hope you get some responses from people that can offer what you're looking for!
  4. Thanks everyone for all the replies! Lots to think over and work out and I've got a little better idea of some lore stuff thanks to you all, been peeking at the wiki a little but since I'm trying to avoid spoilers somewhat for the main story I didn't go on a full wiki dive. Considering what everyone's been saying I'm leaning more towards Conjuror or Astrologian as a focus for starters. I've found at least to get the hang of the world settling into a class really helps to flesh out the world for me and help define at least a little bit some boundaries. Crafting is also really fun so I might do a bit of that as an rp hook. It makes me curious if people hire other players to rp something like a retainer (Just without the planar transporting bell)
  5. Hello everyone! New player and long time roleplayer here and looking to get a few feet into Eorzea. My friends and I picked up the game about two weeks ago now and have been really having a great time so far. The game itself is great, the world is really nicely realized, and the emote system and UI stuff is still constantly blowing me away. We've had ever intention of transferring to Balmung to join in on the roleplay and really add to the immersive nature of the world and settle in. We're looking to find a way to both enjoy the community and the game at the same time. I'm a long time veteran of MMO Rp, I got my start back in Everquest 2 and I've dabbled across Rift and GW2 since then. My friends are more tabletop oriented, mostly being D&D players with only a few forays into MMO settings. I'd consider them to be light to medium RP, with myself being more of a heavy roleplayer. I'm a huge lore buff and a long time FF fan. Eorzea is really cool so far and I'd like to make sure we're all heading towards a mostly lore friendly and immersive backstory for our characters before we try and transfer and find people to hang out with and FCs to join ect. Right now we have two Keepers of the Moon who are brother and sister, a Seeker of the Sun, and a Xaela in our core group, with an few friends who are sort of dabbling right now as a Lalafell and a Elezen. Not sure how long the other two will be sticking around. So over the last week I've tried to collect some brainstorm questions from everyone and thought I'd see what people who have been around the scene for a long time have to say and if there's any advice, lore pointers, or general server vibes to impart on us to make sure we're sticking as close to believable as possible. 1) How relevant are story hooks like memory loss, things related to the Calamity still to the game story or RP stories as a whole? 2) Seeker of the Sun tribe norms are laid out pretty well with the U but Keeper of the Moon don't have a lot of examples. Noble houses tend to be Elezen territory but are there any examples of say and influential Keeper family? While small in size would it be unfeasible to portray them as sort of a mix between nobility/mob styling culturally? 3) Jobs are pretty specific with the soul crystals and some of them seem really exclusive as the quests put them. Any tips for playing a Dragoon or Summoner without stretching too much? 4) Speaking of which how how much does class/job identity play into most peoples stories? With how easy it is to switch them around are more people free form freelancers or RP stricter class roles when it comes to telling stories? 5) Of the three healer classes who's got the most RP hooks? Conjurer seems fun with nature loving, Astrologian has cards and star powers so that's already a win, and scholar gets fairies. It's a tough choice. 6) Where the first Au Ra brought over with Yugiri after they got pushed out of Doma or is it one of those things where they were supposed to have always been around and just rare before then, we just have to suspend our disbelief a little because of game reasons. Anyway thanks for reading this, and looking forward to seeing more of you once we all get over to Balmung hopefully sometime next week!
