I just want to say thank you for joining us, and I hope to make this experience and stay for you fun and awesome. :smiley: Down below are just a few rules I require everyone to abide by so that we can have a fun and enjoyable experience while we RP and get to enjoy and experience FFXIV together. General Rules - No harassment of any sort. This includes, but is not limited to, unwanted sexual advances, threatening, and otherwise things can be considered an attack against another player. This is meant to be a fun and social environment for all, so let us collectively keep it fun and friendly! - We are an 18+ FC. That being said, it is fine to be lewd and curse, just be within reason. No overtly sexual or violent talk within the Discord, LS, or FC talk. If you’d like to have such conversations please do so in tell. - Avoid religious or political discussion. Such conversations are fine in private, but both subjects can be a bit touchy, and therefore should be avoided in the public chats.(edited) Roleplay Rules - Please keep OOC and IC separate. The fun of RP is that we get to act out characters and make a story, so please keep that in mind. If you have a problem with the person OOC whom you are RPing with, keep it out of RP, and if it comes to be an issue, please contact myself or one of the officers on Discord or IG. Please respect others’ boundaries. If you would like to commit a crime against another person, such as seriously hurting them, sexual assault, etc. Ask the person beforehand to see if it is okay. Some people are okay with anything happening to their character within reason, and some do not want to be touched. Make sure to ask and know your RP partner. No public ERP. I do not mind ERP, as it helps deepen character bonds with one another, but if you wish to do so keep it in private. Also, please do not solicit your character to ERP for gil. When you wear our tag, you represent the entire group, so please keep that in mind when you are RPing out in the world of Eorzea. Avoid purposefully metagaming or godmodding another character. If you do not know what this means, please contact myself or an officer and we will better explain the terminology.

LOCATION: Costa Del Sol DURATION: Til Further Notice STATUS: Some of the crew is MIA, wherabouts unknown. MORALE: low, but must perservere OUR STORY SO FAR: With the heist of the airship on the crews' minds, Moneva would start to develop a plan on which to take the airship, thinking of various methods of taking on the Castrum in Mor Dhona. Upon the recruitment of a freelance engineer by the name of Kehda, the crew would come to learn that the Castrum they had hoped to infiltrate had more security than they hoped to deal with. With the information from the engineer, the crew would make the decision to make their way to Wineport the next eve, learning that Castrum Occidens harbored the treasured prototype, without the increased risk of security. Staging as nobles and guards for the company as a diguise to seek refuge in Wineport, the crew would journey their way from Gridania to the location along with the help of the engineer and Moneva's sister-in-law, Ylva.(edited) Despite Moneva's eagerness to steal the airship, tensions would be high amongst some of the other members, some disagreeing with the Xaela being guards for the disguise, others questioning the leadership of the Captain upon hearing she was married to a Highlander, as well as some losing respect, if not all, by her acceptance of becoming an exile to her people, causing the arrival to Wineport to be anything but a fun experience. As Kokegal would confront the Captain over his brethren's broken nose from her confrontation with Dorbentei suns ago, the relationship between the two would be shattered, and with it, the loss of Kokegal, Dorbentei, Alvachir, and Sapphira from their company. With tensions high, frustration evident, and hearts wreched, the remaining crew would have no choice but to station at Costa Del Sol instead, their cover blown after the confrontation in the wine country. With the newfound pain, the Captain would accept her exile, accept her loss, and move on, her voice ringing loud and true to her company to tell the others she was no longer a Qestir: She was Moneva Farron.

LOCATION: New Gridania DURATION: Til further notice STATUS: few tensions between members, some injured and seeking medical attention, one member is in an unstable mental state: Keep caution. MORALE: tense between some members, otherwise relatively friendly.

LOCATION: High Bridge (Eastern Thanalan, x: 21.4 y:21.0) DURATION: One sun. (one day oocly, til 9pm est Jan 17.) STATUS: One of the crew is extremely ill, some of the others are slightly injured, but generally fine. MORALE: tense, but relatively neutral. __ OUR STORY SO FAR: __ After recruiting and setting up a stable group of crew members within the past few weeks in Ul'dah, Moneva and few of her crew members make preparations for the start of their infamy: Stealing an airship. Moneva hears wind of the Castrum out in the Shroud having a delivery of a new prototype of Combat airship to test out in the fields, finding it to be the perfect opportunity to take hold of their first ship. Catching wind of rumours about a Xaela teen attacking the fellow Xaela out in the city of Ul'dah, Moneva decides to send her group ahead of her with the assistance of Yara her new assistant, much to the group's displeasure. Upon exiting out of the city, the group encounters a few places of interest along the way to rest, in which a mixture of typical rowdiness and tensions ensue before making their way forward once more. Later on in their travels, the group encounters a fork in the road which causes Yara to split up the two groups respectively; One to go left, and the other right. One of the two groups stumble upon a new face named Rosalinde, offering her assistance to protect the group as they would travel, causing the group to welcome in a new valuable asset to their ranks. For now, the crew of the Vice & Virtue are camped at HighBridge til next sundown, tensions rising between some of the crew members. Would they manage to handle one another during their travels? Well, only time would tell...

Thus, the company called Artifice was founded.

Hey there! Fellow Qestir (now exiled kek) I personally had it to where she was a Qestir whom traded out in Reunion, and happened to fall in love with an Ala Mhigan, not understanding a lick of what he was speaking but felt a connection. He proposed, which was the only way he knew how to tell her he wanted to be with her and she went to her tribesmen to gain their blessing. Now mind you Xaela are super xenophobic, so her speaking of marrying a Highlander is quite a taboo thing, thus her tribe ousted her from the tribe. There is actually a tidbit of lore from the Qestir that you could use as well: So from that, you could have it to where your Qestir spoke once around someone whom they thought they could trust, whom in turn went to the elder and had you ousted, or something along those lines. Now, if you're looking for a reason for your character to go without becoming an exile, Qestir are known to be the ones whom opened up the trading hub called Reunion, so it'd be pretty neat if you did something where you got permission from your Elder to go open more trade routes in Eorzea.

Knowing the Quicksand has been the go-to place for RP, I decided to jump on in and get back into the playing field. Unfortunately, upon my first experience back at Mateus, I noticed... Well, trolls. [/align] [align=center]Now mind you, trolls during Open RP is going to happen to matter where you go: Any and every RPer knows that once they encounter it during their journey through the RP world. Sadly, new members within the Mateus Community may not necessarily know that, or may be new to the community in general and want a feel for the server before they dedicate themselves to it. Now, if it were a stray troll or two, it's not really that big of a deal: Normal stuff. You can typically keep it from tarnishing the RP immersion. But recently since coming back, I have noticed the Quicksand has been just *littered* with trolls, even seeming to be more trolls than RPers.[/align] [align=center]Daily. Non-stop. Friends and FC mates sending me messages concerned and frankly annoyed by how bad it has gotten. A lot of my friends are new, and are honestly very disheartened by the community they are experiencing firsthand, and not the community we **want** to share to them.[/align] [align=center]That's where my concern and desire for change kicked in. [/align] [align=center]Quicksand has always been known as the central RP hub for FFXIV RP, Transferring across multiple servers as a hotspot for walk-up RP. I have enjoyed the crazy and memorable experiences in there, and it will always have a place in my heart, but I honestly feel for Mateus, it is time for us to branch off into new waters, and see more of what the world has to offer.[/align] [align=center]_________________________________________________________________________[/align] [align=center]Well, what's the plan?[/align] [align=center]___________________________________________________________[/align] [align=center]Upon first thinking of this problem, my first thought was Well, how the hell are we gonna come up with a hub?[/align] [align=center]What drives people to go to a location to RP? Is it the sights? Is it the playability with RP? Is it the nostalgia you get from spending countless hours grinding with your friends?[/align] [align=center]Then I realized: It's all of that.[/align] [align=center]It's the experiences. It's experiencing that location for the first time. It's searching every nook and cranny that spot had to offer. It's learning that within that place, you can create stories beyond your wildest dreams. It's going through that area in the past, remembering all the memories you shared with others.[/align] [align=center]Why not give people that experience? Give people that feeling of finding a place to call their sanctuary? [/align] [align=center]My idea? I want to gather a list of RP places that could be the new potential Hub, centralized around the theme "New player friendly." Reason being, I want both new and old RPers to be able to come to this spot and have a great time, and hopefully significantly lower the troll population with this project. Quicksand has always been known as the go-to spot, so naturally trolls knew where to go. We can never truly eliminate the trolls, but we can at least find a place where they would have to actively search for us, which should help the situation tremendously.[/align] [align=center]With this list compiled, I would then have it to where each week or two, there would be RP events specifically revolved around that place. So for example, if we had chosen Wolves' Den as a choice, an RP event could be a fighting tournament with PVE RP DUELS. Which honestly, would be pretty badass.[/align] [align=center]After all the fun is had and all the events have ended, we come to the time to reflect and vote on what one stuck near and dear to our hearts the most. After a semi-final and final vote, we would have our winner! Ding ding! Forgive me, I have absolutely NO FORUM SKILLS, so my quote formatting will be absolutely shitty. Took me 30 minutes probably just to write this from my lack of forum skills. xDDD BBC and I were never friends. If someone could tell me how you guys quote so beautifully, I will do better in the future. xDD We actually have admins where they delete all the posts in tabs where they get overtly cluttered once a month, in order to clean old FCs, LSes, Events, etc. Really helps maintain the said clutter you mentioned. c: Nice thing too, is we have an RP making connections where FC leaders can speak to those who post interest in certain types of RP FCs they are looking for and the like. It's a nice little system, I think personally. Now, in terms of finding the discord, I can see the concern in that, but there should be a forum post somewhere here that has it... Ah! Now, that doesn't excuse the fact that there isn't much spotlight on our discord, considering it -is- our main source of communication outside the game, but I suppose a lot of Mateus people just assumed that people would search for the discord, or give word of mouth upon meeting new players IG. Personally for me, I try to offer out the discord link when I see players running around, and I know from personal experience a lot of people found the discord through this site in particular via the forum post I linked. When I personally got really into rp on here, I googled "Rp server ffxiv" and got Balmung. I believe now that Balmung is closed, googling the same thing will now bring up the alternatives as well, considering it is mentioned often within these forums. Now, not saying it is an excuse by any means, but I believe people on Mateus just generally like to keep things IG or through the discord, knowing that googling such topics will gladly point you as Mateus/Omega/etc. as the alternative RP servers. People also use other sites like Guilded, so there is also that you have to take into consideration as well. Oh I completely agree on that: You can't avoid people arguing on forums. The only disappointing thing, is people could be joining this forum for the first time, or looking around seeing what is going on, and can see bickering and completely go "Oh, no nevermind that." and completely skip it. But I do wanna bring up another point I forgot to mention: There are a lot of people who left Balmung for reasons other than server congestion. Some people want nothing to do with Balmung and the people altogether. I'm not one of those people personally, but I have met quite the handful of folk on Mateus that will bash Balmung and speak very poorly of the server. So I suppose that could partially be the reason why you don't see many people whom left Balmung perusing the site and trying to gain publicity to here. It's more a bitterness thing than anything, but eh. You can't win 'em all. The server tags will help immensely with RP events. But I really think it's the same thing I mentioned above: I believe they find it more convenient to post the event on discord, where people can actively respond to you in a much faster rate than forums, they know the audience they are speaking to are 100% Mateus folk, plus the formatting for discord is much easier for people whom are quite inexperienced with making really cool, flashy adverts. (I know I personally suffer from forum post crappiness, but I try!) But I don't know. I sadly can't speak for all of Mateus (though I am the only one of present speaking about it) but ironically enough, it kinda feels like me being the only one speaking up about this kinda for my Mateus fam proves the point that Mateus people aren't really... on this site much, unless they are Balmung/Mateus alternators. But definitely. I will try to get more FC leaders and such to post their events on here more, but I promise you, some sort of better formatting like those tabs would probably help more traffic from Mateus folk on here. Now that you bring this point up concerning the frequent migrating players, that may be part of the reason why people don't post on here! I didn't realize that so many folk do switch from Balmung and Mateus. I have an alt on Balmung personally myself, but I don't really frequent her as much as I would like to. But now mentioning that, that gives me more of an excuse for people not so on the boat for this site. If it can truly help bring more exposure to RP events for people whom migrate or seeking FCs for their alts, that could definitely bring more traffic. The sad thing is, it's getting people motivated to do so. I think a lot of people joined Mateus as founders of sorts, thinking that starting up a community is easy and fun and pleasant, but in reality, it really isn't: It is fun, yes, but it's moreso fun AFTER the work is put in. Personally-- it seems a lot of people didn't realize the work people put into these sorts of endeavors and go "Oh shit i'm out." A lot of friends I have seen in my lifetime on Mateus have grown and disbanded FCs because they didn't realize that it takes time and effort. That actually answers this quote as well: I can't speak for Omega or the other servers, or many of Mateus people, but from what I have seen, as mentioned above, I think some people kinda pulled the whole "Well, f**k you guys, I am gonna make xxx and xxx better than you ever were!" and then realized the work, and then dipped out of the effort process. I know for me, I wanted to put more effort to growing Mateus but I just don't have the time. Between juggling college, work, FC, etc. It becomes a LOT on your plate. And trust me, there are plenty of dedicated folks on Mateus, but there are a good amount too that just don't have as much time as they'd like to make it blossom as much as we'd like to. ALRIGHT. Gonna move on to the next reply. ((again, once I know the quote formatting I can avoid this embarassing formatting *cough*)) I believe I answered this with Unnamed's post, but i'll elaborate more. In my personal experience, it's just a quick google search away to find what server is best for rp, depending on your timezone and the like. Same with the discord. So I believe that people have the assumption that "If you want rp, you'll find it." mentality. There are multiple posts on this site about the discord, I believe they're just tucked away from back when the Exodus happened. So in reality, people **should** be bumping those for more exposure, but with what I mentioned above, people are either too lazy, don't see the point, or have too much time on their hands for it. Voice chat wise, I don't know: I find it odd people would expect voice chat from a massive 1000+ community of people who mainly (if not solely) do text-based RP, but I digress: You said you have met such people, so I can understand the concern. If you're asking for particular forum topics that have been created in order to bash transfers like Mateus folk and Omega folk, then I cannot provide that for you, because that was not necessarily what I meant when I said I saw hostility: Rather, it was moreso the responses people were giving within topics created concerning Mateus/Alternative RP Server, etc. Now, mind you, this hostility was back when Mateus discussion was becoming a topic; I haven't seen much if any recently. But it seemed that when people would discuss this being mentioned in various topics, it seemed that there were a few people whom wanted to try and avoid having an alternative rp server made altogether. This isn't specifically Balmung people, of course: This could be anyone on this site from any server. But maybe possibly some people felt threatened by the mention and were afraid their friends and the like would transfer away from them? I haven't a clue, but I cannot explicitly point out evidence for this, for it would take a lot of perusing through old forum topics. And of course, as I said I have nothing against Balmung and found no problems with Balmung folk speaking up about getting people to their server: It is a very fun place to rp and I had a fun time being there. I think it's moreso that people felt that others were not supportive of the change (for one reason or another) and decided to take their adverts elsewhere. Of course, this is theory and speculation: I can't speak for everyone. OKAY. Jesus. Personally, from my experience, it is because Discord has become such a positive tool for the Mateus community. Need an rp event? Right there. Post your FC? Right there. Make connections? Right there. You don't have to weed through other players on other servers, you get instant response times, and the discord is growing daily. When I found the discord, I literally never came on this site except to post events or peruse topics. I know from when I first moved to Mateus back in SB time, a handful of people on this site were... well, not really welcoming from what I personally saw. Now, I am not trying to say anything bad about the people on here, but I know a lot of people had expressed to me that they didn't feel welcome on this site at all, based on how people have acted in the past to growing a second RP server, etc. I don't know if that's 100% on that, but I do remember seeing some fights in the forums back when Mateus and co. was getting off their feet. Plus, when Mateus was first getting off their feet, there wasn't even an *Icon* for FCs, you had to rummage through the pile of other server FCs and hope there was one with Mateus on it. Also, Server events: There is a very bad bad bad structure on it. If I go on the events page, it is literally 99% Balmung. Which is fine, I have no complaints: But the point is, this site was completely made for Gilg and Balmung. It continued to be that way for quite some time after Mateus grew, and now has finally a decent format for the other servers. But some advice is just to try and separate servers in terms of events and such. If there was a, say, Mateus RP Calender, or Cactaur RP Calender, etc. It would make people more willing to use this site. Also, I guess the only other thing I wanna ask is why are the Balmung folk creating this topic and are so concerned over it? I'm honestly curious, no hostility.
