That... doesn't make much sense...
-
So uhm... I admit I only been in the chatroom twice but those two times it looked more like a Rant About Some Aspect Of FF XIV chat than a RP chat.
-
Thank you Hiname! Now I never need rant about WoW again because you've just said everything there was to say!
-
Honestly, I hope FF XIV -doesn't- become another mainstream thing. I'd hate to live going into a game because I always loved the titles and wanted to RP (I did play WoW because I've played Warcraft 1, 2 and 3 and was looking forward to RP in that universe!) and end up in a mainstream thing again, seeing my RP environment devolve into pure economical BS. At least SE seems to have this whole Immersion thing down pretty nicely.

It's true that the first few levels are crucial but... really? Make it -more- accessible? You get level 10 in a single evening as it is, what are they gonna do? Make people start level 10? I'm surprised there's even still people taking the trial.. the game is popular sure, but it's old. If I was about to play my first mmo, I'd go for one of the most recent ones.

You all heard about Hobbs the 11 years old right? Over 50 minutes of hilarity FRAPS'ed in a WoW raid guild Vent? With the 11 year old trying to hit on every adult women he heard? If you haven't try it: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=63587481 This is why I'm in favor of Age requirements. More seriously, it's true that age doesn't always mean maturity, but an age requirement usually isn't a rule.. more like a guideline (Pirates of the Caribbean lol). More seriously though, Crystal wins this thread with her explanation. The second half of the third paragraph in particular very nicely expresses my views on wanting to hang out with people around my age.
-
True, there's absolutely no way. You're not 18 and want in? You lie. However I think it's reasonable to trust people will be honest and what 18+ says is the guild requires a degree of maturity. As for judging you, well... I l-led- ERP guilds in the past. My first experience in such a guild involved people who actually worked in erotic litterature for a living and others who were simply mature and, shall we say, very adult. All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and outside of the E we had tons of great quality RP, so I've wanted to repeat the experience. Of course I never quite found that same quality and abandoned. Nowadays I don't seek that kind of guild anymore but I still seek more mature roleplayers, for various reasons. As for that 14 years old.. I haven't heard of that one. I only heard of one who was 16. It begs the question.. What were her parents doing???

Yeah having tons of emotes and no / command kinda sucks o_O Also your avatar is funny.
-
Hey it's not too bad, WoW players are still waiting for the new dance emotes promised 2 -expansions- ago.
-
Facial expression emotes in a mmo? That's awesome!

Right SW in 1977 for lightsabers and LOTR in 1978 for actors! Was still pretty innovative back then, no?
-
That's pretty nice! Random trivia: the first attempt at a LOTR movie was animated by first filming actors, than drawing over them (mostly the supporting cast, though)

Are you Eorzean?

She could use bigger boobs, I guess. Since the shirt its loose, it does kinda seem like a cut guy's chest. The curves could be more defined I suppose.

FFXIV Video Resolutions and HDTV Monitors
Asyria replied to Rikitiki's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
The companies all claim they fixed the plasma burn issue in their newer models but I've sold HDTV's for a year or so and I learned a lot about them during that time. It might be true they fixed it, but my instincts would tell me to go LCD. I'm suspicious like that. For response time, 5ms sounds good for a mmorpg, but might still be a little slow for a shooter. Good LCD compy monitors have a response time of 2ms, so that gives you an idea. Anyways! The OP said he was going for a 32" and those don't come in Plasma, for most companies. (Plasma technology is expensive so only worth the monies on bigger models). If you want to go with BestBuy a quick look at their available 32", along with my general (yet slightly outdated) knowledge of the companies that make them tell me the following: Insignia and Dynex: I haven't ever heard of those until now. Their websites are strangely similar and both of them are exclusively available at BestBuy and FutureShop (which is essentially the same thing as it's all owned by the same guy). Sounds like it is to TV's what President's Choice is to groceries. I wouldn't touch those TV's with a ten foot pole. >.> LG: Our store doubled up as a Service Center. It was full of LG's waiting to be repaired. Bad Chinese TV's! Toshiba: That's the affordable decent level of Japanese TV. What that means is it's Good (but maybe not as good as other Japanese models), Affordable (the only thing we had that was cheaper was Samsung) and Reliable (it -is- Japanese, that means it's not made out of crap). Sony: Possibly better image than Toshiba but equivalent models will usually be significantly more expensive on the Sony side. Usually for no real good reason. It does have the usual Japanese reliability. Panasonic: On equivalent models, more expensive except that unlike Sony, they actually have a reason for that. The reason is superior service if something breaks. This may or may not matter to you cause it has the Japanese reliability. Disclaimer: Speaking from my own experience and trying to help, not seeking to start a TV quality debate. -
I know, why not put the pizza guy on pause and finish the fight?

FFXIV Video Resolutions and HDTV Monitors
Asyria replied to Rikitiki's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
That depends entirely on the TV itself. Be very careful and get all the infos about the TV before you do anything! My TV for example, has a PC Monitor input and ONLY when it's plugged through that does it work. If I use the HDMI input, the TV behaves like a TV that doesn't recognize the HDMI device plugged in it. I still get pretty nice graphics, and since its in my bedroom, it doubles as a bedroom TV so I'm happy. But I wish I had known that before. Also! Be sure you know the available resolutions on the TV. Mine for example can only accept a certain number of specific resolutions. Anything else results in a black screen, making it pretty annoying when a game defaults with a resolution not in the list. Forces me to borrow my roomie's monitor and adjust. >.> EDIT cause I missed something: I don't think your TV will do anything by itself regarding resolution, you just need to make sure it works yourself, as I was saying right above. -
While it's mentioned that public ERP isn't tolerated and no one cares what is done in private in the requirement, someone who thinks that every 18+ guild is 18+ because they engage in raunchy e-sex is probably not the kind of person the guild wants anyway.
-
I can't speak for anyone else, but to me it's not derogatory, it's a simple choice. I wouldn't join a guild that wasn't 18+ personally, simply because I enjoy playing with people who are around the same point in life as I am. While I RP freely with everyone no matter their age (as long as they're decent RPers), I prefer to hang out with fellow adults OOC-ly, just as I prefer to hang out with fellow adults in RL. As when I was a teenager, I preferred to hang out and RP and play with fellow teenagers. I think it's perfectly natural. And yes, there's also the legal issues.

Hehe yeah us French Canadians -need- to be fluent in English... or live far from the big cities. Montreal is almost 100% bilingual and there's even people that barely speak French or not at all in there. As was mentioned, most internet-savvy people speak English, but I'm not 100% sure about European's willingness to use it for RP. As I said, I've seen France-based guilds in other games and they RP'd in French all the time. That said, they remained a minority. I'm glad to be bilingual but if your first language is English and you're in a mmo, there's really no need to know other languages.
-
In some games that have worldwide servers, I've often come across French-speaking RPers. They're very much into RP in France and I do so love being bilingual. ^^ That said, if you don't understand/can't speak the language, there sure is no point in trying to RP with them. o_O I'm not gonna RP with any Germans, myself. All I can say/understand is "I love you" and "I am a potato".

You should crop it a bit to ditch the legs at the bottom. Good point. I was lazy. >.>

Awesome! And yes, really cool perspective! Edit: Avatar'd it ^^
