  1. Guess who's back Back again Asy's back Tell a friend
  2. Unpopular Opinion: Maybe it's not the What you're playing, but the How you're playing it that is attracting the wrong kind of attention. Personal Experience: I have never have or seen that kind of race-specific reaction. This is a strong case of YMMV, I guess. Head-shaking Statement: He left anyway...
  3. Seconded. After MMORPG i went back to tabletop, though. :bomb: Yeah, I never left tabletop. I'm even streaming a campaign I run on roll20.
  4. To make a long story short, I went from make-believe to Choose Your Own Adventure books, to D&D, to MMORPGs in which I found people were roleplaying. :tonberry: ftw
  5. Not saying it's unrealistic, but it's the most overdone trope.
  6. Just don't have your whole family dead, is all I'm gonna say.
  7. "Pretends to be Batman but without money, gadgets, butler, or great detective mind."
  8. Thanks! That was very helpful. I actually went to a public event on Balmung last night. I'll be exploring the Mateus community as well, but I'm more hesitant there as I'll be starting from scratch.
  9. So, with Stormblood around and my getting bored with other MMO's I,ve tried recently, I decided to come back to this marvelous game and community. Problem is, it's been so long (since before Heavensward) that I don't know anyone anymore. And it looks like some of my old fellow Balmungians moved to Mateus too. I started a new alt over there but I'd like for my old crew to make some new connections as well! I'm looking for anything from OOC Linkshells, to RP Free Companies, and from IC interactions to story/event involvement! Old characters wikis listed in signatures.
  10. ERMAHGERD I'm back, you guys!
  11. In addition to merchants, crafters and gatherers, we're also recruiting adventurers to spread our name by vanquishing evil using Silver Anvil! In other words, since a crafter/gatherer-only thing is pretty damn niche, we're recruiting non-crafter/gatherers as well! Since we believe heroes are not born, but made (and made with good equipment, no less), we're now opening recruitment to all sorts of mages and warriors to show the world what bravery and great gear combined can do! Also, having some guards on hand is always useful when foraging for rare exotic materials, long-lost tricks of the trade, or simply traveling.
  12. Purely for information, this transfer away and back scheme would most certainly work if you timed it with a friend who would roll a character with the exact name you had, so when you transfer back a character with the same name is found, thus forcing a name change on the "new" arrival. This is how it worked in other mmo's. Of course Namingway cards would make this pointless.
  13. Full Name: Agata Blysstahlwyn Belleza del sol = Y Represent = N Squad: = N Mount/Pet = N Fashion = N (I wish tht part was on Gilga, where I have my Weaver Fashion Designer) All depends on the date, though!
  14. Helena Duval - Hyur (Midlander)
  15. Those all sound like great ideas! The Silver Anvil would love to have a corner in The Bazaar, of course. ^^
  16. Clarification. I don't. Cut myself off. From RP. UNLESS! It makes sense for the current situation. It's not even happened yet. Context, people. CONTEXT. I'm not speaking Chinese, here. I'm simply defending a very valid point that a whole lot of people seem hellbent on hammering down as being bad.
  17. So at first I just replied t the OP because that topic always comes up and those who enjoy sharing and reading inner monologue or thoughts are always looked down upon by those who think "it's wrong"... But I've read a few of the posts now. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??? Must EVERY debate always have to end with Balmung vs Giglamesh or Elitism accusations or some stupid waste of forum space like that?? For the Twelves' sake, just shut it down already. >.< Live and let live, anyone?
  18. I'll say it one more time... there are two ways to RP through a Written medium. 1- RP is acting. You must stick to describing actions. 2- RP is writing. You may describe actions and thoughts. Since, it's a Written medium... 2 would make more sense.. but for some reason, tha majority sticks to 1. I don't get it. I, as a frequent reader and occasional writer, enjoy getting insight on other character's thoughts even if my own character cannot react to them. It's part of the pleasure of Reading. RPing through a written medium is an exercise in group writing and reading each other's words. We're not reading a novel? I disagree. I believe we very much are, except each of us write their own part. There is NO right and wrong way to RP. Anyone saying otherwise speak only for themselves. Note: As interesting as inner thoughts might be (just think of what would a novel about the show Dexter would be without his inner monologue, or worse, how the show itself would become), it's common courtesy to also give something, action or dialog, for others to respond to, otherwise things will stagnate.
  19. Something being offensive is all in the eye of the beholder. I'm not offended by simple words such as those found in NPC dialog, whether it's them or players speaking them. but I am offended when people label me with wrong intentions and act like I was out to purposefully offend others. I am offended when people treat me like I was some jerk. I am offended when the first one who say "you're offensive" is automatically the victim even when they're just being stuck-up and I feel bullied when someone calls me offensive and everyone else take their side against me because the "offensive" label was thrown out. Not that I care much... but it's on topic and I believe it's worth pointing out as I'm sure I'm not the only one like this. Note: Words don't offend me... but I AM sensitive about certain topics. However, rather than ask people to stop talking, I simply stop reading. I feel asking people to stop discussing something is egotistical and goes against freedom of speech... unless a majority is uneasy with the talk of a few, then it's simply more practical for the few to take their conversation elsewhere.
  20. A few things I would like to add... While Ul'dah certainly has law, their enforcement seems poorly done. The wealthy enforcing their own laws on the poor with hired muscle is not a rare sight (happens once right at the beginning and once again after the first dungeons, and judging by NPC reactions it's not uncommon). Furthermore, while the Sultana has her heart in the right place, the Syndicate is something else. Not only are they out for profit but their wealth means they control much. Add a strong mafia to the Denmark/Portugal thing. As for Gridania, the elementals are the primary concern. The Twelveswood is of course most important, but it seems to be mostly a matter of respecting the elementals, aka forces/spirits of nature. Poaching and deforesting is illegal because the elementals don't like it. A conjurer won't help a wounded man without the elementals giving their approval. It's all about them. I would see Gridania more like America than Japan, with the "natives" caring for their environment, and seeking the spirits (elementals) approval in everything and strangers being more-or-less unwelcome. Limsa Lominsa is pretty spot on as far as I know. Lastly, I am very wary of Law Enforcement type guilds. I've seen them done right once or twice... but it's a very fine balance between enjoyable RP and RP bullying and not everyone sees that line between the two in the same place. If it is done (and I sincerely hope it is) it must be done carefully. Wasn't there some criminal element LS around, by the way?
  21. Too late, you posted here, now you're one of us!
  22. Report the jerk, tell everyone who's witnessed this to report him too... if Squeenix decides it's bad enough form or actual griefing they will do something. If they decide not to do anything, you'll only have lost a moment of your time. Might also be a good idea to take names. So people know never to party with the above-mentioned jerk.
