  1. I'm not on Goblin, but what sort of character are you playing or planning to play? I'm sure there are linkshells that could help on your server, but if you know what kind of IC environment you're looking for it would likely help people make good suggestions or offers to you here.
  2. I play more toward a Hyur with feline traits rather than a feline that happens to look largely human, but adopt a lot of cat abilities. Using ears and tails to show her general feelings at the moment from time to time, the enhanced sense of smell and modestly improved hearing over a hyur, the ability to eat raw meat, fish, or poultry with no ill effects as well as the ability to subsist on saltwater if need be. Greater flexibility and range of motion in her backAnd, of course, the uniform tongue/palette thing that miqo'te have that enable them properly pronounce that 'hiss' sound that the 'h' in their names call for. Don't remember ever purring or using any of those other cutesy sounds some folks do, I also haven't given her any specific love of milk or catnip or that sort of thing. Any preference for fish she may have is entirely because she's a former pirate and grew up on a fish heavy diet, save the occasional gull or beast they chased down while landbound. If anyone cares to make their characters more feline and exhibit those traits? More power to them.
  3. I play whatever character pops into my head, although the aesthetics in games can keep me from rolling one gender or the other. A lot of games have male characters that just seems to look very generic to me, they remind me of the type of heroes and villains that I've read countless novels about that just leave me 'bleh' about the whole thing. Conversely, I don't like games like Tera where the female models are overly sexualized. I don't care if someone wants to play a character like that, but I like to have options, rather than being forced into something that doesn't mesh with the personality I have in mind. If I'm doing something freeform, like a tabletop game, I like to mix it up. When I first started roleplaying I played almost exclusively male characters which burned me out after a number of years, so I tended to play more female heavy concepts instead. Since then its come back into parity. In terms of playing your gender or the opposite... I've known plenty of male friends that have done female characters because they like the aesthetic more, an idea came to them for one, they think other players treat them better, or they just want to put them in the skimpiest outfit they can find. On the flipside I've had female friends that play mostly or exclusively males for similar reasons above, only with the extra benefit that other players don't assume they're a female, as they'd had bad experiences with guys in games due to that in the past. When it comes down to it? I don't really care whose behind the screen. I don't really need to know as it doesn't impact the characters at all. If I like someone and enjoy playing with them I don't need to know something as arbitrary as their gender, their age, what they look like, or anything else. Sure, I've met up with people in old groups before when we happened to be in the same city and had a great time with the majority of them, but I keep OOC and IC separate as much as I can in all respects.
  4. I like to add comedic elements into my roleplay at times, but what that consists of is entirely dependent on the character. Tohk is an utterly stoic and serious sort who has on rare occasions tried to tell jokes - they've always fallen flat because she has no idea of what actually constitutes a good one and lacks all the elements one needs to be good at telling them. Which can be funny, but I work it in through different ways. Little touches that come across ridiculous for her character, like the tendency for her to zone out when she's thinking deeply and begin to cross her eyes, or that she phrases things so poorly that they come across as double entendre that she's utterly clueless about. I don't try and get cute with my descriptions of her actions, or bleed in fourth wall breaking things, as that seems to be more distracting or disruptive. Like yourself, I've also played characters that joke a lot before. I won't call them comedic, because that seems to imply they aren't serious, when in actuality their tendency toward sarcasm and wordplay was a simply a part of their character, rather than the extent of it. As others said, forcing jokes simply because your character is that sort can end up with people finding them annoying, disruptive, or otherwise not the sort of character they have much interest in engaging with. My practice in those situations was to give them a voice that was more flamboyant, their actions more open and energetic, but still refraining from bleeding in elements that were intended for the player rather than the characters interacting. Be light and jovial, and if the situation allows for it then sure, throw out a joke.
  5. Yeah, the actual in game distances really are the big sticking point. If a chocobo can make the journey in a day, particularly since it wouldn't be as straight a shot as an airship, then that certainly would stand to reason that it could take 1/4 to 1/2 the time to fly if they do travel at that 85-100mph clip. That really does shrink down the world a bit considering the distance between Gridania and Ul'dah on the world map - I had thought it was a bigger continent!
  6. I have had no luck finding a post regarding it if there already is one available, but what would one generally consider the speed of Eorzean airships to be? Generally it gets bounced back and forth to fit whatever is necessary to make the narrative work, but I don't recall seeing anything definitively stating something like how long the airship from Gridania to Limsa Lominsa, or from LL to Ul'Dah would be as a starting point. I've been treating it as if it would take at least hours, if not more than a day, but I hardly have any basis for that.
  7. The fights were close and fun, a better showing than the first round elimination the previous week!
