Seeking:: Merchants, traders, people/FCs with services for hire
Fenrir replied to Michikyou's topic in RP Discussion
I'm sure some arrangements can be made. After all, what use is an entertainment troupe that doesn't entertain? -
Will the price drop max out at 50%? Or does it get added onto the potential 360 x 14% reduction every six hours? There's a lot of questions that need answering. But it's safe to say that Lansquenet will be holding up for a fair bit until prices become more affordable. Balmung is a legacy server, and while there might be certain groups out there with the ability to afford it, as recent transfers, we certainly will not be able to.
-
We usually play anywhere from 6PM onwards, EST. I'm sorry we've missed you. If you ever see anyone on in the guild, feel free to harass them -- they'll harass us in turn, and we can set up a meeting that way. Alternatively, PM us here on the forums if you're still interested.
-
I have a small, niggling worry of that as well, but I don't think open world RP will die, and having pure RP housing neighborhoods is too good a thing to pass up.
-
FC Name: Lansquenet Location: We'll decide after we get a better look at the areas, but we are leaning towards Lavender Beds for IC reasons. Active Periods: Usually anywhere from 5-12PM EST. Desired Purchase Date/Time: Two or three days after the patch hits, when we've had enough time to look around and decide between the three housing areas. This is, of course, assuming housing does not cost a prohibitive amount at launch. Looking For: Medium to Heavy RPers. Anyone that might get a kick out being in the same neighborhood with performance/con artists. It would be nice to find a rival free company, lawmen and guards and the like, to have a kind of back-and-forth thing. Other criminals, obviously. Contact: Any of our members would likely do.
-
We have been on Gilgamesh since Beta phase 4, and while the community was booming in the beginning, it seems the number of RPers have dwindled. We are considering a transfer to Balmung.

Thanks. But I'm not sure if you're suggesting I'm missing hyphens or you're just unaware of the meaning.

Lansquenet 1. A gambling game of chance 2. Archaic spelling of Landsknecht -- German mercenaries 3. The drums carried by the Landsknecht (Art by Ansemaru) It’s a cold day in Limsa Lominsa, a late-autumn rainstorm rolling off the sea and spraying the spires and white stones of the city. The wind howls, the air is laced with salt spray, and nobody seems to mind, because they’re all packed into the floor of a bar on the lower decks, jammed together like sardines in a tin and putting off enough body heat to offset any inclement weather. The stage in front of them is low and obscured behind a sailcloth curtain painted with simple blue designs. There’s a Roegadyn woman, tall and poised, currently standing in front of it, keeping the crowd engaged with a story of a sea voyage gone hilariously wrong as the minutes count down to the start of the show. “-and that was when we found out that the order was misread, and the fifty pounds of dodo jerky was nowhere to be found. Because there were fifty live dodos in the hold, you see, and they weren’t exactly happy to be there.” Behind the curtain there is precious little division between “backstage” and the stage itself, other than a carefully-positioned wall of wooden backdrop pieces. Behind the wall is a mess of crates and boxes, props and costume pieces strewn about the floor, and in the middle of them all are a small and motley crowd of individuals. “Hold still, unless you want to fasten the back yourself.” A severe-looking Miqo’te glares over her spectacles as she helps a delicate-looking Elezen man into what appears to be an elaborate wedding dress. “S-sorry, I’ve just got butterflies again. Big crowd tonight.” She sighs at him, and one of the other actors comes to comfort him, laying a hand on his shoulder. She’s another Elezen, whose blue complexion seems to pale in comparison to the outrageous blue wig she has on. “You’ll be alright! You only have to jump off the stage once, and this time, nobody will forget to catch you!” The individual shrouded in a bulky winged costume behind the two makes a vague, sheepish gesture, before trying to also put a hand on the Elezen’s shoulder. Said hand being inside one of the costume’s wings makes it a more difficult endeavor than planned, and the Miqo’te fixes them with a withering look, before continuing to lace up the back of the dress. “Besides, all you have to do is stand up there and play pretend. You all know exactly who’s doing the real work tonight. It’s going to be a big night, with a crowd like this.” Through the curtain, they can hear the emcee’s voice ring out above the crowd. “Ladies and gentlemen! If I could have your attention, please, the show is about to start!” The curtain starts to raise, and the actors scramble to take up their positions in the wings. Behind the woman, a beautifully painted facsimile of a church in the sky is revealed, and both Elezen, dressed as a bride and groom, take the stage. From somewhere unseen, a bard strikes a dramatic chord, and the Roegadyn gestures broadly as she steps aside. “Our story begins in the far-off land of Sphera, where vicious primals run free, and summoners are the only hope of the people. But for our fair heroine, Luna, that hope is quite distant. Will she escape the clutches of her wicked groom? Will she save the world?” She takes a bow, as the actors step forward. “You’d best sit tight, if you wish to find out. This will be one hell of a story.” ------- Blood spills onto the stage. A Miqo'te woman has fallen to her knees, red welling from the new gash in her chest. Another woman, a tall drink of Elezen, looms over her, sword clutched in hand. Their eyes meet, and even through the dull haze of smoke and alcohol fouling the dive, the audience know they ain't through. They talk. The cat’s pitiful, not for the way she pleads, but for the glimmer in her eye that tells you she’s praying and calculating, working up to hope that she's got a chance out of it. One look at the Elezen, the cold steel of her eyes and the cruel set of her mouth, makes it obvious that not a single of the Twelve has plans for her that don’t involve a hole in the ground and a gig as cheap fertilizer. The sword goes through the cat’s stomach. The lights dim. The curtains drop. The room’s near silent. It was a good story for a shitty saloon. There’s a small smattering of applause. There’s more laughs and drunken whoops. Miners and the other roughnecks that make up the dive’s clientele aren’t the discerning type – something as clear as the homebrew swill they’re knocking back by the gallon. They want flesh, violence, cheap highs and lows, anything that’ll take their minds off their own miserable little lives; they spend their days scuttling underground, sore and tired, all their work serving to make another rich while they barely scrape by. The curtain lifts. A Miqo'te lass and Elezen lad are poised on stage. They’re not wearing much besides makeup and smiles. They’re trying for salacious, but there’s nervousness pinching both their faces. Still, they dance, and they’re good, and the crowd is quiet, enjoying themselves. She’s bronze, he’s pale. The contrast catches the eye. The jewels laid across their bare skin catches the low burning lantern light, and gleams as sinfully as they sway. No one pays any mind the new people hustling through the door, even with one of them dragging their feet and attempting to break free. The few who turn their heads to the scuffle of boot on hardwood floor aren't bothered. The two on stage finish with a flourish, the knife-eared boy lifting the cat in the air and she twirls down the lanky length of him and ends up clinging to his leg when the lights and curtains drop again. The burst of applause is riotous. People stomp their feet, whistle, shout encore. They want the glitter back. Mostly they just want to look at the two awhile longer. The thunder of the crowd is still fading when the curtains part, and a spotlight isolates a chair sitting centerstage. It's the loneliest place in a bar bursting with closehearted men and women. A Roegadyn sits in it, arms like tree trunks bound behind him. His head lolls, dark eyes glazed, one swollen shut with a nasty bruise. His lips are burst and bleeding. The wind’s fallen out of the audience. The silence is deep, primal. It’s recognition. They know their boss, even bone-deep hurt like he is. A lot of them have thought good and hard about what he’d look like in such a state. A new man steps up behind their boss. His tail slashes the air. His smile is knife-edged, toothy, and his blazing yellow eyes are cut sharp in amusement. His voice is low and warm when he speaks, but there’s a gravel underneath the smoke, like the man’s got coal buried deep down in his chest. He’s got the barest tang of an accent, something come crawling deep out of the hidden recesses of Gridania. He tangles claws in the Roegadyn’s hair and jerks the man’s head up to look out at the crowd. The Roegadyn's stomach drops out; he knows they're gonna watch him die. “Final act: New Management.” Blood spills onto the stage.

I'm going to see about setting one up for gilgamesh. Just PM in-game for an invite (Fenr'ir Nebelung)

I've been roleplaying for awhile not, and my first real foray into MMO RP was on DAoC. I didn't actually participate much, but it seemed okay -- then I got into WoW, and boy, was I blown over by the ridiculous characters people played. Now, granted, I know that every character is likely to fall a little into the mary sue spectrum, and everyone wants a hook to make their character interesting, but I find no matter your character's past, purpose, or what-have-you, the manner in which you play them is more important than anything else. I've seen plenty of characters with eyerolling backstories that were played with enough nuance and subtlety to make them good characters, and I've also come across characters with aggressively boring backstories that play their characters as if they're meant to be the stars of the show. Which brings me to another part of this whole mary sue special equation. You have your mary sues, you have your ladies who move like darkness or dudes capable of taking out 20 mooks with a toothpick, but on the flipside you have your characters who're slightly tubby and couldn't fight if their life depended on it and would rather spend their time cutting the crust off sandwiches because that's what "good" roleplay is to them. So really, I'd advise people to strive for a happy medium. Make your characters entertaining, give them hooks, but don't make them the equivalent of a psychotic high school kid with superpowers who wants to shoot up the local school and has offensively stereotypical multiple personality disorder, and don't push your character too far into the other direction that there's nothing to them. And realize you're sharing the stage. I mean, this is Final Fantasy -- how often is the main character really the most interesting?

Currently in the process of tallying up which servers have been locked to character creation the most and attempting to narrow down the possibilities.
-
This entire post just really makes it seem like you've ignored every point brought up in this thread, especially regarding the already splintering community of roleplayers who cannot get in.
-
There was time to choose a different server. People knew Reddit and various other places were choosing Gilgamesh before Phase 4 started.
-
I would suggest a server with a lower population than Behemoth. I feel by Tuesday (the day the game actually launches) Behemoth will be no better off than Gilgamesh and Balmung. As for the debate about whether or not to add a third RP server--I don't see why not? It seems like most of the people who are able to login on Gilgamesh/Balmung are against it, but then again, they are able to login. By suggesting a third server you are allowing people who are unable to get on Gilgamesh/Balmung a chance at organization. If you do not give them this opportunity then all of those locked out are just going to randomly select a server and be scattered more than necessary. I'm not saying this is going to happen, but you do realize that Gilgamesh/Balmung might not be available for 30 days or more? Lamia, I tells ya. wait no, somebody's telling me it's not open for chargen either?
-
Another thing worth noting is that even after everything settles down, Gilgamesh will still be home of a few populations besides RPers that will keep the population high, and will likely suffer from server transfer restrictions.
-
It's definitely true that we can't know the server population things on other servers, but a little google-fu makes it seem like Faerie, for example, is also popular with the FFXIVrealm website people. Behemoth as well seems to have a sizable interest from other groups. Of course, this is all based off the vocal population, which as we know will always be a shadow of the true population.
-
I'm just still really confused about why people didn't change the projected server when it was announced that all those other communities would be jumping into Gilgamesh. Having a high population server is great and all, but having a server with only "RP" attached to it means that, surely, you'll run into more RPers just running around than you would on a massively populated server where we only make up who knows what percent? At this point, there's almost undoubtedly no way to fix this, given that so many people have already gone and leveled up their characters on Gilgamesh, and despite so many telling us it's fine to roll alts and wait to level up on Gilgamesh, I doubt they'd be willing to give up their playtime to fix the problem. So the cons of having a third "official" RP server are that people are afraid it will splinter the community further, and it may turn out low pop. But the pros are that if picking the right server, you'll only have RP attached to it, most likely driving up the raw percentage of roleplayers you encounter, and it'll allow us to bypass these overpopulation issues that're hurting so many of us and our friends already. I''m currently level 27 on gilgamesh, not the highest, by far, but not the lowest, but I'm perfectly willing to give it up and roll somewhere else to fix these issues. Not only would we be helping OUR community by finding a third, but we'd be helping Gilgamesh's population woes itself by moving likely quite a few people off the server. I still like Lamia, but looking at a few others threads, it seems like Faerie and Behemoth are also options.
-
And risked being on a forever low-pop realm? No thanks, I rather like Gilgamesh and it's large community. I'm having a blast. That's great for you cupcake. It doesn't invalidate my point.
-
It wouldn't of been hard to switch to, say, Lamia, when we heard about how Gilgamesh would be various other communities' go-to server, but people downplayed the overpopulation aspect, and look where we are. It's bittersweet.

[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
Fenrir replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's classic. I say one would be bad enough, and you assume that I'm badmouthing your community, and in the same breath condemn me for being worried about griefers and trolls, and swearing up and down that because you're trying to recruit from reddit, it's all A-okay. Then when corrected, you stick to your guns instead of admitting you've presumed incorrectly, and brush aside the real sticking point with a handwave of "but we've already decided, and I speak for everyone when I say we won't mind the queues." -
[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
Fenrir replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Okay? So what? Not everyone from those communities are bad. A LOT of redditers actually want to RP. Hell, I found this site on 4chan and I'm certainly not looking to be toxic in any way. If it seriously bothers you that much, roll on Balmung. But honestly you are blowing it way out of proportion. You will meet griefers no matter what realm you go to. So what? So there might be an overpopulation issue. So there will be a larger pool of roleplayers to meet if the only high profile community on the server is roleplayers. So not everyone is up to date on these communities and will just hear "oh this is that communities server? Guess I'll roll there." The vocal part, bad or good, is not the majority. And where did I mention griefers? Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to assume that's my chief worry, and maybe you shouldn't start off so defensive because you believe I'm smacktalking a community that you now have me assuming you belong to because of your kneejerk reaction. Refer to above. There are legitimate reasons beyond "oh noes I will get trolled by the big bad internets" that people would want a different server. Chief amongst them, as mentioned, are that at least two of three of those communities are massive, and as anyone who's suffered ridiculous queue times know, they're not fun. -
[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
Fenrir replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I don't care where we land, as long as it isn't Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh will apparently be the home of: Something Awful, BlueGartr, Reddit, and us roleplayers. Having just one of those communities with us wouldn't be so bad, two would be pushing it, but all three? It doesn't sound fun. -
There is no category in which female Roegadyns do not, ahem, tower above all others.
