I certainly can. Currently standing as my most loved MMO as well, if ARR lives up to my expectations, there might be competition. To be fair, Mesmer PvP was a lot of fun. Probably my favourite PvP class in any MMO I've played, at times it could be just trollish. At least for me it was Guild Wars 2 (never played the first). Anyways, welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay here and enjoy the RP community.

Welcome! Your first FF title eh? Well I hope it won't disappoint. Well, there's a lot of information out there, so I'm sure you'll be able to pick it up. I've personally always preferred FF lore above all others, so I hope you manage to love it as well. Any questions? Be sure to ask.

I voted yes. But you're a Miqo'Te with a very Germanic name, why aren't you a Roegadyn or something? Okay, Saefinn is actually an Icelandic name and perhaps fitting for the very Germanic/Nordic Roegadyn, but Saefinn is the name used for my MMO presence. I used naming conventions for some of Saefinn's family. In creating my character's family history, I have made excuses as to why he's called Saefinn. It's not unusual for somebody to take the names from another language and of course beyond calling my cat Yoshi. But names I'm using in this family: R'uhanu Tia, who became R'uhanu Liljasson. Saefinn's grandfather. R'Lahta Liljasson. Saefinn's grandmother. Steinn Liljasson. Saefinn's father. Rohsa Liljasson. Saefinn's mother. Finnbjorn Liljasson. Saefinn's brother. Lilja (surname unknown), R'uhanu's master, a Roegadyn R'uhanu owed his life to. At least I feel these names are justified. Roegadyn naming conventions seem to derive from the Germanic, particular in their use of dipthongs (like ae, oe and other combinations to create long vowel sounds) and the use of 'j' as a 'y' or 'y' for 'i', for example, their word for 'hunt' is Jaeg, people will know of Jagermeister, which literally translates from German to 'Huntmaster', hence the Alestorm song. Then of course the Miqo'te conventions are a little different. The first letter represents the tribe, the surname is your partner (if you're female) or denotes whether you're a mate (if you're male) and the use of the letter 'h' is common due to how Miqo'tes pronounce words. You'll notice 'Rohsa' has no apostrophe, but she decided to lose that part of her name. I think it's fascinating how you can play around with names and words in this, it kind of helps you understand the in game culture a little more and of course, help create an identity for your character, particularly when you're trying to justify less traditional names.

I'm a newbie RPer as well, but everybody seems supportive and friendly here. I am experienced at writing and gaming, so it really combines two loves. Anyway, awesome that you're willing to try and I don't know about anybody else, but I find as long as you communicate what you want to say clearly, the odd spelling mistake doesn't matter. I rarely proofread what I type on the net, so there's bound to be errors anyway. If you start using 'txt' speak or 'leet' speak, then it's understandable that people complain. n e way c u l8r d00d.

Cheers man. Well I'll look forward to it.

Pirates of a Wayward Star is a linkshell (which will form a Free Company) affiliated with 'Wayward Star', which is a general guild for a number of video games. It was built out of SW:TOR and has since pursued through other games, collecting a series of members who just like to game including BF3, The War Z, Minecraft, Eve and more. I am setting up the Final Fantasy XIV segment of Wayward Star and it's an RP linkshell based on Gilgamesh. I am an EU player, but it's not going to be strictly EU or US, Wayward Star is actually US based with some EU folk. But it doesn't matter where you're from, you're welcome here. Website Link: http://piratesofawaywardstar.enjin.com/ You can sign up there if you've got an Enjin account. Or you're welcome to post here. Intro: The Scholar Captain Hey everybody...you thought I was going to say, "ahoy there mateys!" didn't you? Come now, that's just an offensive stereotype, but luckily for you I'm the generous kind of captain or I'd have cut your balls off already (or tits, let's not be sexist). Yes folks, I am the Captain of the Pirates of a Wayward Star. I'm sure you've got lots of questions, such as, "if you're a captain, where's your longcoat?" and "Really, you're calling yourself a pirate? Why don't you just shout it out so the guards can hear ya?", "aren't you a little well spoken?" or "you're a flipping cat! Why should I take orders from you?" Well, for each of those questions is a story and you may one day know the answers or not. For the time being, why don't you hook up with my crew? So, what's in it for you? I could say, "adventure" but there's so many adventurers these days and adventure is kind of a given. But being a pirate is about being free, I know, idealist drivel - I've sailed with pirates and met all sorts of captains making slaves out of a crew. A pirate's life isn't free and it isn't all whistles and songs, don't let the bards kid you. It's the rubbish they feed you when your mummy kicks you out of the house for stealing. My old captain was like that, he was a real piece of work. I staged a mutiny, killed the bastard and it paid off. Now, I could give some inspirational rant about how everybody's a brother or a sister and make you throw up. Truth is, I avoided becoming the captain I hated. But this is a bit of a tangent. Ah yes, now I'm back on track, I'm a captain and I need more crew! And what is this crew to do? Well, for starters, I'd like to avenge my old crew. What happened? You don't need to know, really. Maybe we'll do some noble things, like save an orphaned child...well, maybe if there's money to be made. Or less noble things. I welcome all odds and sods, except maybe those who'll stab us in the back. If you're new to this whole pirating malarkey, don't worry, we'll take you under our wing. Can't fight? Can't tell your head from your toe? Don't worry, that was me once and now look at me (I still can't fight, but I can do magic tricks), you'll pick it up. Best of all, you don't have to be a stereotype. If you really want to "yeargh", it's up to you, knock yourself out. OOC Intro: It's probably obvious the theme here is pirates. The linkshell & Free Company are fairly laid back as I am a laid back individual, the emphasis is mainly on RP but we go through content and have been involved with RP throughout Eorzea with the freedom to break laws and attempt to get away with it. There is a backstory to Captain Saefinn forming this crew. But if you're not so much interested in a pirate lore, there are still ways you can work with this crew or be affiliated with us as some members have. The Goals: -Levelling -Helping new members -Roleplaying -Completing Content -Get involved with the general roleplaying community of Gilgamesh -Events (RP, Dungeons, FATEs etc.) -Completing endgame content and getting gear -Making friends and being social -Uniting other gaming loves in true Wayward Star fashion. The Attitude: There are rules, but they are pretty much common sense. This is more a place for people wanting to get to know down-to-earth folk who want to enjoy a good game with people they enjoy playing with. Not with people who take themselves too seriously, even when it comes to roleplay people make mistakes but I promote the idea of being constructive. Of course, we want to win fights, but I've always found if you're constructive you can build a strong team capable of kicking ass. This approach has worked fantastically for the linkshells I was involved in on Final Fantasy XI, which are still going strong. They helped make my experience on FFXI a fantastic one and I got really involved with keeping things going. I'd just like to make an equally fantastic experience here. What Kind of People/Classes? All classes are welcome. I don't have any preference on classes to roleplay a pirate. A pirate only needs to be somebody unlawful, heck you might yourself even be lawful, but doesn't mind associating yourself with riffraff, maybe you're a merchant looking for business, somebody willing to pay for our services, or somebody looking for adventure, without the stealing. You could be somebody who's unlawful but good, or unlawfully evil. Saefinn is unlawful, but good, he may not tolerate cruelty, but things can happen behind closed doors. On classes, Saefinn's eventual aim is to become a Scholar. He has his reasons as well. For start, he's a terrible fighter, but they do go beyond that. I suspect a Paladin might be harder to work in, but I like to see people's creativity. That said, we've got 3 Paladins, one's a Knight for the Maelstrom, he's an antagonist, another is a Free Paladin who wanted to break free from the restrictive life she had in Ul'dah and my alt, who's not a crew member, but does business with the crew, particularly if they're on a righteous streak...we sometimes do that. Why Pirates?: Seems like a bit of a cliche these days. I like pirate lore, though I am not imagining myself to be some kind of Jack Sparrow, whilst I do drink a lot of rum (and other booze), but it's mainly to hold back the captain's guilt. I think it allows me to play a character who can be at times be serious, at other times jolly. I've fleshed out a back story, which I think adds more depth to the idea of being, "yay! pirates!" I think it leaves room for people who are serious about roleplaying - pirates are a part of FF lore and piracy isn't all fun & games (as Eric Cartman found out when he went to Somalia) and of course leaves room for those looking for a bit more lighthearted fun, good times are to be had with drinking rum in taverns and flirting with wenches. Anyway, let's make Gilgamesh an awesome RP server! Any questions? (I can answer IC or OOC, whatever you prefer)

Hey folks, I'll bite. Pic's 3 years old, but I've not really changed since.

((This is a story to offer some character building for Saefinn. At this point he was a young lad, who had recently joined this pirate crew.)) Mead in hand I looked out to the sea with sun beaming on my back as I sat on the docks, I felt a certain warmth, a smile on my face and a light buzz. I took a swig back, tasting the sweet honey and alcohol. The air was strong with the smell of sweat, salt and seaweed and I could hear the babbling of other sailors. Something felt right, it felt like I belonged somewhere, our captain was a bit of an arsehole, but we were all like brothers, smuggling and stealing goods. We all got our share and life was good. Sure, I was the new recruit and got some of the crappy jobs, but we all held our pints as equals. That was the best part. My good friend Roddy put his hand on my shoulder and satbeside me. He was blonde haired (and very blonde at that) and he was a fairly tall Hyur, very skinny and shirtless. He had a pint with him and fat grin on his face. “Hey’up mate. Bit early to drink.” “You’re kidding me, right? When’s it ever too early for you?” “Ah, I’m just pissin’ about. You were a right tit lastnight, weren’t ya?” He laughed. “What do you mean?” I asked, scratching my head. “Come on man, you were pissed out of your brains. You triedasking a pretty bint out and I could tell she had it for you, but you threw up all over her. Couldn’t handle yer drink!” “Oh yeah, that. She was cracking as well. She was more thanfine, she was a great laugh.” I sighed. “Ah no worries my man, you’ll have another chance.” We stared out to sea for a moment’s silence. “Say, what made you wanna join in the first place?” Roddy asked. “I was always getting in to trouble. I was just a regularkleptomaniac.” “A what now?” He looked puzzled. “Means I love to nick stuff.” “Ha ha, so you thought you’d fit right in, eh?” “Yep!” A tall, stocky Hyur with no hair marched up to us and folded his arms before speaking. “You two lazy sods, the captain wants to see you.” “So much for a break.” Roddy jumped up and held his hand out to help me up. The stocky hyur led us along the docks, passed a few drunken sailors and into a small shack and there tied to a chair was a beaten and bloodied Miqo’te with his wife and kid cowering in the corner. “This is your lucky day lads,” the Captain held out his arms in welcome, “We got this scumbag, ain’t paid his debts for weeks! Told ‘im last time, if he didn’t have the money when we got back to shore I’d have his bloody balls. So what say you.” “I’m a bit squeamish cap’,” I tried to back away. “Ah bollocks, you just need to man up. Never seen you getyour hands dirty lad. Here, I got a dagger for you. Show this bucket of chocobo shite what happens when you don’t pay.” I felt the sweat on my forehead, I felt sick in my stomach. He’s right, I’ve never dirtied my hands, I was a criminal, I loved to steal and I loved making money out of smuggled goods, but I'd never hurt a guy. The captain knew this, he knew I didn’t have the stomach for it and he must have drew some kind of pleasure out of this. “Do I have to cap?” “Aye, that’s an order.” He grinned with his yellow teeth on display. There was no way I could back down, he’d gut me otherwise – he was that sort of captain, follow his orders and you were his best mate, disobey them and you’d find your feet tied to a rock sinking to the bottom of the sea. I knew this sort of stuff happened, I knew our captain was a bit of a loan shark, but it all happened behind closed doors, I thought all I’d ever be expected to do is smuggle and steal, but I must have been deluded to think I’d never be expected to get involved. There was no way I was going to cut his balls! Perhaps I could just kill him and get it over and done with, captain won’t be too mad? Maybe a few lashings, at least I wouldn’t torture the guy in front of his family. “Don’t just stand there, cut them off! Or there’s gonna betwo Miqo’Tes without their manhood by the morn.” Oh gods, oh gods. My hands trembled. I closed my eyes, Ijust had to do it, I felt myself apologising, praying to some god somewhere. I just stabbed him in the balls and he screamed in pain. I dropped the dagger. I a felt tear in my eye, but managed to hide it. I was about to throw up. I could hear his wife sobbing. Reopening my eyes I could see the look in the child’s face, a mix of fear and hatred. A face I would not forget. “Atta boy!” Captain cried as he wrapped his arms around me.“I said cut ‘em, but stabbing’s good enough for me. He won’t be pleasuring that whore again and he’ll be pissin’ sideways. Hardly a man at all. Ha ha!” I felt dirty on the inside, but what frightened me was thatthere was a sense of relief, a slight pumping of adrenaline, I felt wrong, yet liberated. Like a taboo had been broken. It was a sensation I knew that would turn me into a murderer.

I put 'neutral', I think people will want to discuss pros/cons and I'm all for it, I picked Gilgamesh, but I don't actually know anything about the pro and cons of going for either, I pretty much picked a server out of a hat. The pros/cons would influence me and when it comes to starting a new character for phase 4. However, I can understand that "which is better?" is an unfair question because the answer is highly subjective and could result in server wars (like people go into console wars with PS3/360 or OS wars with Mac/PC and iOS/Android) but if it's an intelligent and civil discussion between the pros and cons, I see no problem in it. It helps people who are new make a more informed choice.

Stole this from another thread, it has helped me flesh out my character.

I. Basic Info Characters:Saefinn Liljasson, Lenunu Lenu, Rhuya Nelhah Primary character:Saefinn Liljasson Linkshells:Pirates of Eorzea (working title) Primary RP linkshell:Pirates of Eorzea II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium role play. I like being in character, though I've not done a lot of RPing, so I would say I'm inexperienced, however, when I have done it, I've been in character half the time. I think as you're not only playing with people's characters, but real people too it can be good to get some OOC chat in, get to know real people and discuss content OOC. Views on RP combat and injuries: I think RP combat is something difficult to do realistically, but I think it should work how it works in the game world. I've never seen a mandragora break somebody's leg, so I don't think an RP battle should involve severed limbs and things that are generally difficult or impossible to replicate in gameplay. I suppose if somebody has an injury it could affect how well they fight in PvE battles, so the tank who limps over to the Ifrit murderifying a poor White Mage. But I think if it's going to affect battles outside of RP-PvP, I think those involved should agree to it OOC, otherwise it could spoil other people's fun. Still, I think it would create an interesting challenge in a fight. However, enfeeblements are generally curable. Also, please, no god moding. Views on IC romance: I think it should go as far as players want to. I personally don't want to see people cybering it up. I don't think it's something people should get too serious about because IC romance is rarely real romance (rarely because I suspect real couples might do it). IC romance can be fun and it might be something your character might get involved in just a people can be romantic. In terms of fun, our linkshell on FFXI had a gay wedding between me and another guy, because we often joked about in LS chat. Though there was no actual romance (I'm straight for a start), but it was a great gathering and about the only RP thing my LS did and it was fun. It got people together and heck, I even got some pretty sweet wedding gifts. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Specifically to family ties I think it can add to the depth, if players have an agreed family history, it'd work. Like on SW:TOR with the legacy system I created a family tree based on various relationships and story surrounding it to justify my selections. There were some rivals involved too. Of course these characters never meet, however, between individual players, I see no harm in being related, but I think some of the content needs to be agreed as I think family history is something more difficult to wing in conversation. Having said that, something spontaneous might be entertaining, so if need be, get creative! With other RP, I take the view that you should try to make it reflective of reality as much as you can - at least the reality of the game. So culture, lore, language, prejudices and various other attitudes. So I am a Pirate Captain doing slightly more honourable work, I encounter a highly lawful Paladin, that Paladin is most likely going to look down on me and have very severe trust issues - he's going to see through my honourable facade and know that my motivation is money, as I am a no good criminal. Of course that allows him to underestimate me if I am actually looking to reconcile for my past crimes or to find out that I'm actually an honourable pirate. Views on lore: I'm all for creativity, but I think detracting from lore can lose some of the immersion a bit. I mean, say, if you decided to create a Sephiroth and were attempting some kind of interdimensional plot inspired by Kingdom Hearts then it wouldn't work because Eorzea isn't a part of that universe. You could probably have a character who draws inspiration from Sephiroth, but your roleplay would need to be within the lore of the game. But I'm not a tyrant, people will make mistakes on lore and I think it's okay and rather than berating people, I think it's much better to be constructive about it. I don't know a lot about the lore myself yet, but we've all got to start somewhere. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): With regards to chat functions, I think SE has done a good job working /linkshell into lore, you can see characters in game actually using a linkshell. This I think is very helpful. /sh might be the difficult one because you'll need a big pair of lungs if IC, but even then I'm personally not fussy about it. Chat functions are there to make your life easier. As far as OOC/IC goes, I think it depends on what people agree to. /sh would be OOC in my eyes. LS/FC I think is safe for OOC and IC, but depends on what people agree to. Again I'm not fussy. III. Other Info Country: England Timezone:GMT Contact info:bryn.price[at]live.co.uk

A festival beach party is exactly what it is. Oh btw what do you all think of the event being Sunday September 1st 3pm est? The day before labor day? This would make it 8pm GMT, so good for most EU players too. I'd probably be there for a couple of hours. You could probably do some in game promoting as well, like a town crier or something walking the streets spreading news of the great festival. Might help draw in people for RP LSs & events (and to this site). Also, it's not a party without the alcohol. Who's got the rum?

Cheers. It's going to be Limsa where he's going to discover the Arcanist's guild on release - to draw him away from his Conjurer flair and later lead him onto the Scholar path. So dubious sailors may be a useful attraction. As for class, I agree (obviously ), a pirate only needs to engage in piracy, it doesn't even have to be at sea, which is useful considering my ship is at the bottom of the sea. Though I suspect if they do Musketeer & Corsair, then I probably will level it as a secondary class/job. On FFXI I was a SCH, COR & PUP. I see SCH already has a similar lore to FFXI, hence I'm sure the 'tactician' part will be useful for a captain.

Cheers dudes. And I'll be sure to check them out.

I'm 24. I love to write and I love video games. I am sort of new to RP, I have done some RP with friends and tried some RP when I played WoW, but my friends who played were non-RPers, so I ended up mainly playing on a non-RP server, sadly. Same happened again on SW:TOR. However, I was a Night Elf Death Knight in the bar drowning in his sorrows because he was an abomination too cowardly to kill himself. I just used it as an excuse to pass out and listen to how other people roleplay. When I started FFXI it hadn't crossed my mind to RP and ended up meeting non-RP players and stuck to it. I love FF lore, so I'm going to make sure I RP this one. Just hope they hurry up with phase 4.

Hey folks. I am somewhat a newbie role player looking to role play on FFXIV. I was a big FFXI gamer and on MMOs I've always wanted to roleplay, but generally joined friends on their servers, who were non-roleplayers so I never had the chance. There's a couple of us starting up in FFXIV:ARR and I'm going to be setting up a linkshell and trying to entice gamers we know into the game (people we know from FFXI and other MMOs). This means server choice was left with me, so in abusing my power I wanted to go for an RP server. Anyhow, I am new to FFXIV (currently participating in BETA), so I will be picking up some of the lore, but I figure I've got a suitable backstory. The LS I'm setting up will be called The Pirates of Eorzea (subject to change) as I ran one called Pirates of Urghan back when I was playing FFXI. Obviously there's going to be the challenge of working it into lore and without the use of the Corsair job , but I think I've created enough of a backstory for it to work. I was once Captain Saefinn, I had my own crew, but during a great storm on the seas our ship was ransacked and sunk by the beastmen known as the Sahagin. Watching my crew slaughtered in front of me, I was unable to do anything - I never got to Captain through my fighting prowess or heck through my brains or strategic ability, I was the kind who was quick with his tongue and not sword or mind. Sure I could win a bar brawl, but I could never really fight - I paid people to do that for me. I washed up on a shore West of Mor Dhona, coughing up sea water, barely conscious. There I was rescued by a Lalafell Conjurer, she healed some of my wounds and helped nurse me back to health. She knew nothing of my past dealings - the smuggling, the fact I'd have anybody killed should they stand in my way of making good money. At this point I could only see myself as a failure as a captain, I had no way to handle myself in a fight, I didn't exactly have the brains either, I knew if I was going to get a new crew together I'd need a little more than a quick tongue and I knew of the various guilds across the land. On the first night our camp was attacked and the Lalafell Conjurer showed herself to be an excellent fighter. I talked at length with her about magic, she spoke of Conjuruers, Thaumaturges and Arcanists, the mages, Scholars and Summoners. It was the Scholars who interested me most, the tacticians, the studied mind, those who were not only powerful, but always had a battleplan and I felt as a captain I needed a battle plan. I needed the ability to protect my crew from any dangers that presented them. The Lalafell taught me a few things about being a Conjurer before leaving, she said it would help me on my path, to my surprise I was a natural at it. Once we parted ways I made my way to Gridania, where I would learn more about this art and start earning my way to become a Captain of a new crew, but smuggling will no longer be the game, there's fortune and adventure to be made elsewhere. There's much bigger fish to fry and larger fortunes to be made. I felt now it was my duty to learn more about the beastmen and seek revenge for my lost crew. Whilst this will lead me on a better path, I am still not a man of the law, I can't help it, but as long as nobody rats me out, then I can at least pretend I'm a changed man. This allows me to start a conjurer off in phase 4, then start arcanist on release with the aim to become a Scholar (I assume Scholar will require Arcanist and Conjurer, or I'm boned ). It gives me reason to work for money and in doing so it allows me to understand more about the beastmen threats (I certainly have the motivation to fight against them). It also creates the excuse to recruit for a new LS. I hope this doesn't smell to bad for anybody. Anyhow, this looks like a fantastic place to collaberate with other RPers. So I am sure I will enjoy being a part of the community. Cheers
