  1. Cheers for the interest guys. The scheduling will be the difficult bit, with people working both Friday & Saturday and having EU players. I am EU myself, but the advantage of a Friday & Saturday is that I don't have to work the next day (well, I work 1 in 3 weekends) and I can sleep in - if other EU players are able to get away with a later scheduling, I may reconsider the time and make it later. The initial mingling will account for any lateness before events get under way...some people like to be fasionably late to parties after all. I'm normally the sad git who's turns up first and is like, "why is nobody here?" Saefinn on the other hand is the kind normally to stumble in when it suits him, probably drunk, though for The Masquerade, he will be on his best behaviour, he doesn't want to scare away the great Rameux now.
  2. Dah! I'm working this weekend. I finish work at around 1pm EST, will need to grab a bite to eat, so I will be a bit late. Thankfully I don't have to work until 11am (GMT) on Sunday, so I can stay a bit later without feeling like a zombie at work.
  3. The Masquerade Hello everybody. An esteemed gentleman of Ul'dah is making his way to the wonderful city of Limsa Lominsa, an entrepreneur of superior value, ever seeking to requisition business deals. The man in question is none other than Rameux Pantont. "Who?" Might you ask, well you uncultured swine, he's a weapons broker, he's a peddler, he's a seller of just about anything he can get his hands on and he gains a healthy profit, he's a bit of a swindler. He is a man of pleasure and the Wayward Star company has kindly volunteered to host a party in his honour. The Wayward Star company whose Captain heroically aided the Yellowjackets on numerous occassions, who has served Limsa without little to ask in return, who has earned the trust and respect of high-ranking officials in Limsa, a man known for keeping pirates and other criminals at bay. He is backed by a hard working and loyal crew, led under the title of Wayward Star, giving them the respectability they truly deserve. A crew with the right noteriety to be honourable and trustworthy hosts for a man of certain wealth. The Location Ah what better place than a sweet countryside location away from the hustle and bustle of the city? What safer place than away from criminal minds and petty thieves? Well, the place I'm talking about is Wineport. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/seppuku05/wineport1_zpscae29f05.png[/img] The Event Wineport has a few useful facilities for those looking for a fine evening. The night will start off in the function room, where drinks will be served. Introductions will be made, ice will be broken and of course, the great Rameux will make his entry. An opportunity for people to boast their egos. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/seppuku05/Wineport5_zpsf4a15daa.png[/img] Once you're all comfortable I hope you haven't been nibbling too much because in the next room there will be food serve, a feast fit for a king and an open bar, who can argue? With a full belly and alcohol to stimulate the coversation, you'll be sure to mingle. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/seppuku05/Wineport4_zps9d176817.png[/img] Enjoyed your meal? I hope you've not drank too much, because a high-class social event won't be complete without wine testing, come on, there's a vineyard, surely you'd expect to? For those posh doozies who want to taste the wine can join Rameux around the Vineyard, have the opportunity to taste the sweet grapes when ripe. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/seppuku05/Wineport3_zps03e7c30b.png[/img] Wine tasting not your thing? Not to worry, the bar will still be open. Talking of respectable, how does an evening of burlesque sound? I've spoken to Y'vali and she seems interested, maybe her girls would be so kind as to join us? The Dress Formal wear with a mask. There's a few variations of masks in game (I think dyes work too), so you don't have to look the same. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/seppuku05/SaeMask_zps70161557.png[/img] What Do We Need? Security. Come on, a high class individual such as Rameux making his presence? We need to keep thieves out. Would Echo Knights be up for this? We'll need two people to be hired as personal bodyguards for our man, Rameux for this evening. Drinks. Guests need to be satisfied with competant bar staff, would Wulver's Den be happy to oblige? Good food. Saefinn can cook, but he's no culinary expert. If anybody's prepared to assist, he would be very happy. Entertainment. An evening without entertainment is like crumpets without tea, it just ain't right. I've asked Y'Vali if she wants to get Ambrosia involved, but if there's any other entertainers out there, we would like to know. Guests. No point throwing a party without guests. Just about anybody's allowed to come so long as they're able to maintain ettiquette. That's right Amaare, no pissing in public this time. Why Host This? Please, do not question our motives. We are honoured to host such a man, it looks good on Limsa Lominsa should we be effective hosts. In Wayward Star's hands, surely nothing will go wrong to ruin such a perfect evening, right? When? Date: Saturday 26th October 2013 Time: 11pm GMT, 6pm EST If you want to help out. Please, let me know!
  4. My alt, Steinn is going to be a Paladin, but he's not exactly the lawful type, he's got an alliance with my pirate crew, he's just abusing his position in Ul'dah to make extra money, for example he's smuggling weapons to Little Ala Mhigo. Despite his criminal activities, he does seek some redemption for his darker history, being a 'protector' so to speak works with that - hence he was able to be convinced to help Little Ala Mhigo's cause and accept Sae's business proposition. As I say any affiliation with Ul'dah is to exploit it. This is how I'm going to be working Paladin in a less lawful way. Then of course you've got captain Saefinn, who's a Scholar, not necessarily the most piratey of jobs, but he was originally an Arcanist because he always failed at strategy, he was book smart, all the time at sea allowed him time to read and he read a lot. His urge in becoming a Scholar was so that he would be able to protect his crew properly, as he blames himself for the death of his last one. The same motivation led him to learn how to wield an axe. He's not necessarily going to join arms with Limsa's yellow jackets, but he has formed an alliance with officials to cover up the fact he's breaking the law behind their backs. Sure his duties at times require him to kill pirates, but as far as he's concerned he's cutting out the competition.
  5. I can see breaking an RP in progress can be annoying, but I like to think of it as being like in the real world, a person may interrupt in real life for any reason. I think it can in some ways enhance the RP, because it has you thinking more on your feet. We had an interesting situation on Gilgamesh, our FC had done an RP using Satasha, we found a stash of gold and had the wenches we rescued to deliver it to the drowning wench in limsa, but they ran off with it, when exercising our frustration, by sheer coincidence Amaare was there, who introduced himself as a renowned treasure hunter, the coincidence couldn't have been any more appropriate, now he's on a mission to get out treasure back. So it's my opinion it's possible to add something to the RP, if people don't want you to join in for whatever reason, there's RP ways of getting rid of you, just as there's RL ways of doing it.
  6. I've posted the pictures I took, sadly I didn't think of it until quite late into the event. Next time I'll get more. http://piratesofawaywardstar.enjin.com/forum/m/15364506/viewthread/8583323-beach-party-gallery-summary
  7. Event was a lot of fun guys. Good to see a great turn out, has me optimistic about RPing on Gilgamesh. Nice to meet some new faces. I've taken some pics, I'll post them up on the gallery when I'm less sleepy. But here's one for good measure.
  8. Yay for caring for EU people! cheers. Woop woop! It won't be weird if I told you that you have beautiful eyes Rock? I think I should be able to make this.
  9. The way I've handled it is fairly simple. My character, Saefinn, sees 2 major flaws in his role as captain and 2 flaws he considers responsible for the death of his old crew. The two flaws are: he's never had a successful battle plan, he reads, he's literate and has a good head on his shoulders, but knew very little about to handle strategy on the battlefield. His other flaw is his ability to fight, he might win a bar brawl with a bit of cheating, but that's about it. He always had other people do the fighting. After the death of his crew, he felt if he could achieve vengeance, he would need to overcome his flaws. For strategy, the Arcanist guild offered suitable training and he could later aspire to a role as a Scholar. A Lalafell pretty much gave him the pep talk and convinced him to take that path. For strength, well, he saw the strength of the Yellow Jackets when taking on mercenary work for the Adventurers' Guild and after having earned some respect amongst ranks in Limsa Lominsa, he ended up speaking to Commodore Reyner about some advice and he pointed him in the direction of the Marauder's Guild. Getting friendly with high ranking individuals is perhaps a bit risky, but it alleviates suspicion from his illegal activities at least and of course, by doing a little mercenary work for him, it gives him money and experience, which he needs to help him back on his feet. Other choices? If Musketeer is introduced, as rumoured, I'll probably level it. A pirate needs a gun really. With crafting, it was easier offering IC excuses, in fact 2 of my choices are based on Saefinn's life rather than the other way round. His dad used to take him fishing as a young lad and he'd end up with cook duties when he was a crew mate. The weaving is in there because I wear light armour, but I've given the excuse that it was a skill his mother taught him when he was young. Fishing was the only 'good' memories of his father and well, he was very attached to his mother, so it was natural he took an interest in her activities...especially when he was kept indoors for bad behaviour.
  10. Nice idea. Well, erm, just don't look in the direction of Wayward Star, we're an honest law-abiding adventuring company, I swear! Could make interesting roleplay between the shady types and goody toe shoes.
  11. Don't worry, I'm sure we will. I regret not being able to attend, but at least I managed to get some RP interaction during BETA with a couple of people from my shell. But I am looking forward to RPing it up for the beach party, I've even been working on a little cooking skill to contribute to our eating arrangements.
  12. Doubt I'll be there, sadly server is full. Have to be at work in the morning anyhow, so I wouldn't have been able to stay long regardless. I'll be there for the beach party at least.
  13. That makes it 10pm GMT. I'll be around for a short while then, just to say hello. I managed to get onto Gilgamesh fine, took me 15 minutes, which might make a few scream considering it took them longer, I think one of the guys joining my LS still can't get in.
  14. ((Another story. This one is set during phase 4 of the beta.)) A Meeting with a Commodore Saefinn had become somewhat celebrated. His name was on the tongues of a few important people in Limsa Lominsa, including the admiral. A strange thing for a pirate, he felt. He thought it would have been harder giving up fellow pirates and even harder fighting against them, given his handicap, he’s a terrible fighter! Work was work, money was money and it meant fewer rivals at least, so he felt no remorse helping rid Limsa of a few pirates. What the Lalafell taught him was valuable, he had trained hard with the Arcanists’ Guild and practiced through the work provided by The Downing Wench. He didn’t expect to uncover a conspiracy in the process. It seemed fortune now favoured him, because rumours surfaced of a certain Sahagin manipulating a rival crew, a certain Sahagin Saefinn would rather see his brains splattered on the floor. This was great news, but Saefinn knew there would be no way he could fight him on his own, especially considering he’d probably have to fight through a whole crew of pirates. It wasn’t going to be that easy. This is when Saefinn decided he needed a new crew, but it wasn’t as if he could advertise willy nilly, the guards would soon be on to him. When attending to business in Ul’dah Saefinn, stopped by The Quicksand for a few drinks and encountered an interesting couple…well, they didn’t like being called a couple, they were just individuals of a similar situation. The purple haired ex-tavern wench, Rosarian and Thaumaturge in training, I’shkandar, both looking for work. Saefinn was unsure at first, but neither Rosarian or I’shkandar seemed to care much for the law, it seemed Rosarian was more interested in getting away and I’shkandar seemed to like the prospect of adventure. Which was enough for Saefinn, but he perhaps made too many promises, he was kind of taken up in the moment and he talked about the idea of defeating those who abuse their power, about fighting for the underdog and other mumbo jumbo. To be fair, he believed in standing up for the underdog, it’s the very reason he offered a certain guard a Limsa grin – to him, that was ‘defeating those who abuse their power’, but when he mentioned the Garlean Empire, this might have been a tad too far, but Rosarian seemed to like the idea and she was a tough nut to crack. Perhaps he would one day be crazy enough to take on more than petty guards, manipulative captains and crooked merchants – heck, there were some Yellow Jackets he sort of started to take a liking to, but if they found out who he really was, they would surely change their tone. On the bright side he was already showing promise in the arcane arts, achieving feats he previously thought impossible. Perhaps there could be some substance to his claims. Their meeting left on a note, Limsa Lominsa were willing to pay for mercenaries to take on the pirate crew supporting the Sahagin. He promised the pair work and it seemed like an opportunity for Saefinn to strike back on one of the Sahagin responsible for the death of his old crew. However, Saefinn needed a plan, when he thought about it, if it were just the 3 of them, they wouldn’t stand a chance. He needed somebody to take the defence and somebody to heal them. Rosarian boasted her strength and ability to fight, but she didn’t look equipped to take any hard damage and well, I’shkandar was a Thaumaturge, great for killing things, not so great in the defence department. Saefinn thought perhaps he could hire somebody to do it, but he didn’t have much coin to his name, instead he felt there was only one person who should really take the front lines, to prove himself as a captain and that was he. The idea worried him, he was never a good fighter, which is what attracted him about the arcane arts. This is what brought him to Reyner and the Yellow Jackets. “So, Reyner, do you mind if I call you Reyner?” He smiled. “Yes, you may. What is it you wish to speak to me about?” “It’s about your Yellow Jackets. They’re, well it’s a little embarrassing for me, they seem to pack a lot of brawn. Tough little guys…well…maybe not little on the account of that Roegadyn, he’s huge but still. I saw them in action, they could take a beating.” “They are there to protect. But what are you asking me?” “Well, as you can see, I’m not that much of a bruiser. I mean, I have this little fluffy bundle of joy,” he pointed to his yellow carbuncle by his side, “to take a beating for me. And well, I wanted to toughen up a little.” “Hmm…” Commodore Reyner stroked his chin, “well it is not me you should be speaking to. You should be joining the Marauder’s guild, just head downstairs and speak to the receptionist. You’re probably going to need to start small, get used to the weight of an axe. If you need some tips once you have got some practice, I will let you speak to some of my Yellow Jackets, after all, they are in your debt.” “Much obliged Reyner,” Saefinn bowed and walked down the stairs to the Marauders’ Guild reception area. After registering with the guild, Saefinn spoke to the Guild Master, Wyrnzoen, who proceeded to lecture Saefinn on what it means to be a marauder and a load of other stuff he didn’t quite pay attention to, he was more interested in acquiring his first axe so that he could swing it at some of Limsa’s native wildlife. Once receiving his axe, Saefinn held it out, felt its heavy weight, perhaps a little too heavy, but he was prepared with training exercises, knowing he could work his way to becoming strong enough to tackle a Sahagin. He was determined, he wanted to see the blade of his axe between two fish eyes, which was enough to motivate him to embrace his training, to let his muscles ache and for him continue to fight, for himself take a beating. Saefinn was finally conquering his own shortcomings as a captain, the idea made him smile. He only needed one more thing, a crew. If he could show his brawn at Satasha then perhaps it will prove his strength as captain, maybe that'd be enough to sell it.
  15. What kind of time are we looking at? Sadly I've got work tomorrow, but if the start time isn't too late, I'll try and make it. Also, with questions about the airship pass. You just need to complete the main misisons for level 15 and you're sorted.
  16. Hey folks! Anybody who's rolling beta phase 4, the LS is set up. Currently there will be an LS for IC and one for OOC chat, once we've got a Free Company, that'll change. So anybody who wishes to join can either put their in game name in this thread, or drop me a line in game, my character's name is Saefinn Liljasson. There's also the Enjin forums page I set up, if you'd like to join up there as well, there's a few of us already active over there, but I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date as much as I can. Also, I am looking to run people through the first dungeon once people are level 15. If we're able to get a full team of 2 DD, 1 tank & 1 healer, it'd be awesome, if not, we may end up using the duty finder. Though ideally I'd like to RP the first dungeon, characters can get to know each other and well, rumour has it, one of the Sahagin responsible for the slaughter of Saefinn's old crew has been spotted. Presently, Saefinn is helping out with the Adventurer's Guild in Limsa Lominsa to see what else he can learn.
  17. I should turn up, however, I'll have to work in the morning, so I won't be up too late.
  18. Awesome sauce. Good stuff Poe. Well, I've added it to my Vent info.
  19. With regards to Vent. I spoke to the guy running the main Wayward Star, he's happy for us to have a Final Fantasy XIV channel on there, for Pirates of a Wayward Star, but I also mentioned server meetings, currently there's a 25 member limit as he currently doesn't need more than that (he pays monthly so that he can upgrade at any time), but I offered to contribute if we need to add more. Vent isn't that expensive.
  20. You mean you actually spoke in the end? Why did I go to bed? Did you sounds like Barry White like we thought you would? Anyhow, cheers for typing that up. With regards to the Skype issue, I found the classic "turn it on and off again" worked for me, but I would be in support of something like Vent. Wayward Star (which is a multigame guild, Pirates of a Wayward Star is affiliated with) has a Vent server, I don't know if it's still running, I suppose I could ask Matt (who runs it) if we've still got one and if we can add a few FFXIV channels (I've not used it for a while). We used to hold Guild meetings on Vent and we never experienced problems.
  21. Same sex marriage may not be recognised in game, but we had one in FFXI, we were still able to get the rings, it just wasn't recognised in game. Me and an LS member thought it'd be fun, considering we jokingly hit on each other and other people, it seems like the next step in our 'relationship'. We had a whole ceremony, people brought gifts and it was a lot of fun, the whole LS got involved. So if a straight guy can get married to a bloke, gay guys should be able to as well! If you want it to happen, I think you'll have to kind cheat the system a bit. Bear in mind, the game is set in the kind of period where such things might be outlawed...so maybe even Eorzeans look down upon it. Of course it would be more ideal if it were allowed. People have worked around it where gay marriage has been illegal in the real world. Bear in mind, a world like Eorzea isn't without prejudice, I would probably try to make the best of it and use this restriction as part of RP. If SE remove the restriction, then great, but they never lifted it for XI.
  22. I like it. Rest assured Saefinn will be a loyal customer.
  23. Bah! Saefinn would take his trunks off if he could. He's definitely going to be competing. I've posed for a naked calendar in RL, I think I have all the relevent experience here.
  24. I don't think Saefinn will want to miss this. I think he's the sort to appreciate this.
  25. I've not read the entire discussion and I am a new member, so I wouldn't say I've really established myself here. Anyhow, what attracted me to RPC was the it seemed like a really friendly community of roleplayers. I signed up because I felt I could meet like-minded folk and I have. I can see the arguments for and against having 2 servers. Personally I ended up selecting Gilgamesh and I don't think I'll regret the decision. I'm going to do my best to support its growth. I think what has been a bit of a turn off has been the in-fighting. People have been concerned about Reddit and 4 Chan users causing grief, they are legitimate concerns, griefers can spoil people's fun. But the irony is that without even having spoken to the community, it seems to already have caused grief. I think RPC is a fantastic community and if people are arguing and creating divides slowly, then it's just weakening the community. In my opinion, the more role players here, the better (more people to roleplay with). Yes, there are 2 servers for a community, personally I've always favoured choice and I am glad I've been able to weigh my choices between Balmung and Gilgamesh. Granted we could sit here all day arguing the advantages and disadvantages. But it is what it is. My aim in joining this community was to avoid some of the grief you can get in MMOs, people have a habit of arguing and falling out. I will remain uninvolved with any fighting. You guys are a decent friendly bunch in general - at least you come off that way - I'm sure folks would like to keep it that way. We're all here to have fun and RP the crap out of this game. Make love, not Warcraft and given this isn't Warcraft, you have no choice but to make love. I mean, how else am I going to get any action playing an MMO? Anyhow, this captain's got some rum, who wants some?
