Of course, you could come join us at the Wayward Star, close neighbours of Black Sails, and fellow pirates. House Name: The Wayward Star Free Company/Linkshell: Wayward Star Plot: Ward 3, Plot 14, The Goblet Website: http://piratesofawaywardstar.enjin.com/ Welcome Sign: Welcome to the Wayward Star. We're accepting contracts. Need jobs that need doing? Need supplies that others just can't seem to get? Inquire within. FC/LS Info: We are pirates, indeed, but led by a captain tired by the false promises of tales of adventure and the free swashbuckling pirates standing up for what's good for the common man, the free man, as told to him by bards in his childhood. When he found himself bound to a pirate crew, he found it a horrible and dark place and in turn did many things he would soon come to regret. He mutinied his captain and took hold of the crew. Alas, tragedy fell when Sahagin ransacked his ship and *drowned* his crew. He was lucky enough to escape with his life. He set up a new crew keeping hold to an ideology of what it means to be a pirate, the crew of the Wayward Star is an honourable one, at least, as far as you can be honourable outside of the law. Granted, smuggling and thievery may not necessarily be considered 'honourable' by most, but it's not as if they didn't deserve it. We believe in supporting the underdog and we may be a tad egotistical, but have survived a series of foes in our travels, including The Black, The Maelstrom, The Fist of Rhalgr, The Syndicate and the Garlean Empire, however, it is in our nature to make enemies, so we are well versed in keeping our heads low and finding refuge - hence our operations are tucked away in the Goblet, away from the suspicious eyes of the Maelstrom and a location somewhat protected by a worthy investor - Steinn Wynfydd, a Roegadyn entrepreneur rubbing shoulders with the Syndicate. We also have a ship. It took a while, but hey, the captain's old ship is at the bottom of the sea, so we had to invest in a new one.

SCH's military background - is it really that important?
Saefinn replied to JFrombaugh's topic in RP Discussion
I would say it's not important. Saefinn is a pirate captain from a family of mrchant sailors. He never had much brawn and was a keen thinker and a big reader - time at sea gave him ample opportunity to exercise his mind and he found himself well versed in the arcane. But discovered a treasure in Nymian ruins, which brought about him his first faerie and she's helped him learn much about the ways of a Scholar and helped him learn the arts. I roleplay both of my faeries, his first was Eos (I call her Asarosa) and she was very shy and quiet to begin with, she found it hard to adapt. And now? She treats the captain like an unfaithful husband. Her sister, Asaviola embraced the changes in the world with an overbearing confidence and inherited the captain's alcoholism. I'd suggest the mi!itary background isn't the heart of what a Scholar is, at heart they are strategists and this is why it works so well for the captain. Of course there's something else to consider, there's a level of archeology associated with it, because of the ancient nature and sense of curiosity, bear in mind too not only are Nymian ruins holding a wealth of knowledge but loot to attract adventurers. I would say there's a non military motive and you may learn the cways of the Scholar, just as people today my learn the way of the Samurai, for educational purposes. -
This was good fun. Needless to say, the captain won't be drinking for a while. I think Asarosa is slowly turning into his wife. To be fair to her, she has to put up with him more than anybody else and she's always the one picking up the pieces. Really, none should have sympathy for the captain. Surprised the crew hasn't held an intervention.

Not be to one of these for a little while now, but sadly work will be preventing me from coming. Hope folks have fun, I'll try to make the next one.

Coming from Gilgamesh, yes, there's RP about. Not as much as the early days but there's FC's and LS's going strong with plenty of people to RP with. But then there's fewer players now than there were in the early days in the usual tapering off of MMO's...heck, the infamous launch of the game, you were lucky to register a character, let alone log in. The community is still large. Some people server jump, I know some from Gilgamesh have gone to Balmung and likewise some have come from Balmung to Gilgamesh. From what I understand the communities on either side are different and may suit different people differently. I know Balmung was the original unofficial RP server and Gilgamesh was something decided by the community as a non-Legacy RP server. The differences? I have no experience of Balmung so I wouldn't really be able to say with any level of fairness. In terms of quality, I've never really had a bad RP experience. In the early days there were trolls but the server pretty much accepts there's RPers and leaves them to their own devices. Still, there is something satisfying about watching a troll try too hard and then get really frustrated you're not taking bait, they get desperate for attention. There's also occasional events going on, which get announced here. Our FC has been around since BETA and we still have strong RPers and have a good time with RP. I don't see tavern RP as much as I used to, but there are RP neighbourhoods, particularly with the introduction of housing. In our housing neighbourhood there's 4 RP FC's. However, we're mostly story arc based and as pirates we do jobs and are very rarely found in a single spot - our house is pretty much a base for discussing illegal activities...The Maelstrom discovered our activities and found us to be too suspicious, so we built a house in Ul'dah and we're safe for the time being. I think the only sad thing about RP and this game is that there's no real dedicated RP servers, so it relies on us as a community to smack heads together and be the masters of our own communities and folks who would normally join an RP server to RP may not necessarily realise the game has an RP community and not join a server with RP on it. That said, strong communities have been built and I am having a lot of fun as an RPer in this game and I love the lore to pieces, whilst I may not be a lore Nazi, I am happy to point people in the right direction (mistakes happen and people can be new to lore or may misinterpret something). None of my FC mates make me cringe, everybody's got a well formed character and are a great bunch.

The lore for classes can be a little bit annoying when you consider the stories you encounter. Like the White Mage situation. But I personally see no issue in a person learning skills or acquiring a title - even if self-inflicted. I don't think it has to work precisely as it does in the storylines, because it would be ludicrous and it would be the same for the Main Scenario quests (Captain Saefinn the hero who took down Ultimate Weapon? Get real), but I would say to acquire the skills and knowledge? There's more than one way to skin a rabbit, but you have to be creative. Like with Warrior, you essentially come across 2 Warriors from a tribe and these 2 Warriors are trying to keep the art of their homeland alive, yet bearing a responsible tone, as the beast is not to be trifled with. SE in a sense make that limiting, but I would say there exists other possibilities - other members of the tribe, people who are not directly mentioned in the story or descendants of said people. Of course, using a training manual can be a bit flawed in that you won't necessarily learn proper technique, but not impossible to learn a technique. In my MC's back story, Saefinn, his grandfather belong to a Roegadyn and Highlander crew as the only Miqo'te, but they took on like a brother. They called themselves 'The Sons of Lilja' and Lilja was a Hellsguard and whilst he is now dead, he has a bit of family history as far as Warriors go. How does this fit Saefinn? To consider him a Warrior is simply laughable, he doesn't have much brawn and he's more of a strategist, hence he's a self proclaimed 'Scholar Captain' and then giving him Warrior and Scholar as prestige is even more silly. But he has phases of wanting to be physically stronger so that he may take foes head on, he has swung his axe at Sahagin before now. So how will Warrior work into this? He's currently having a bit of a crisis in terms of his family and his history - he feels he's let his good name down, after the death of his only remaining family it has sent him into different mental states. He had a lot of respect for his grandfather and often heard tales of this man Lilja and his crew. So, I think in his current state of mind he could end up digging the past and whilst he may not become a great Warrior in uncovering Lilja's memoirs, I am certain his curiosity will get the better of him and he will certainly try to learn something from them. Of course, taking the same scenario, somebody who is more inclined to take the Warrior role, they could go the extra mile of using memoirs as a reference with their own Marauder training or perhaps even uncover a soulstone with it. I also have a White Mage in my character list, but I am currently in the process of seeing how it's feasible for her. But what kind of Warrior (ish) will he be? A pure amateur, likely the sort to go berserk - really he would have no business playing with this art and it is perhaps reckless of him to try...but he's not always known for making the most sensible decisions and has a history of being wrathful, though he tries to correct himself. Perhaps in discovering Lilja's history, he might be more intrigued in how this 'inner beast' is controlled, given he's been known to have his outbursts and he may assume (perhaps wrongly) that it will allow him to learn to control himself better.

Saefinn Liljasson It has been mixed for him. As an adolescent he had joined a pirating crew who spent time in bars and surrounding himself with wenches. His crewmates forced a dirty mind on him. It very much marred his perception on women...that was of course until he was out of his element and normal women weren't anything like tavern wenches. But, after losing his original crew it kind of helped him gain some perspective on life. Whilst some things never change, he would love a lass sat on his lap, but he actually has learned to be more gentlemanly and has a greater respect for women and has had many serve under him (not in that way, you dirty people). Plus he has to female faeries judging his every move. But I think since recovering from alcoholism (well, I use 'recover' loosely) I think he has mellowed out a bit. It also helped stir up a couple of mother issues, I suppose on the account of his mother and brother being murdered a couple of months back - he never got to set things right for her. Regardless, you get him in the right frame of mind and he might misbehave. I suppose also on the gender topic, he is actually effeminate himself, he was quite comfortable in drag, whilst it was uncomfortable seducing a Yellow Jacket on the account of him not swinging that way, he is the more feminine of my characters, which is saying some because 2 of my characters are female. X'hayu Nhokhi With X'hayu I made her a Miqo'te on purpose, cat girls quite frequently are sexualised and usually have something related to sex in their background and I was going for a battle maiden and thought it would be nice to have a cat-girl who is badass - she will one day ride on the back of a Behemoth when I decide fit. Whilst I think SE hasn't gone full on 'sexy cat girl' as we have warrior women in the Miqo'te race who aren't sexing people up (like the FATE in Costa), to be fair to them they've sussed out a balance. But, I decided I would exploit the battle maiden in X'hayu as a Miqo'te and I am glad she won't be like the only Miqo'te like that. It's not really a statement of any kind, but it has influenced my race choice, which I am happy with as I've found the lore interesting - given Saefinn is a Keeper and was also somewhat removed from lore based on family history. Her attitude to the opposite sex is mostly neutral - it will depend on how they treat her. Most of the time, she doesn't like the perverted nature of some males, if you tried hitting on her, ho boy, you're screwed and not in the good way. In this sense, she is a big contrast to Saefinn, in fact, she finds him unbearable. But, she's not the kind of over generalize either, she doesn't look down on the opposite sex as people who are out for sex. I also went down the route of making her a virgin, not for innocent and purity or something abstinence and keeping it holy, particularly in the fact of her becoming a Paladin. It's to do with her life being very much a tragedy, in that she was kidnapped by Garlean forces, torn from the hands of the man she loved and was indoctrinated and joined their army. She of course ended up killing him. She tried to get him to fight for the 'right' side, but he tried reasoning with her instead and she couldn't bear to see him become her enemy and made the first shot. She's also been responsible for a lot of pain and suffering on the account of being involved with the Garlean empty. But she has defected and with a very simple goal: to do her best to make up for her wrongs. She now lives by the Paladin code and earn her title through selfless deeds, but she does not live for pleasure, even though others try to force her...she even managed to attend a ladies' night and was peer pressured into a swim suit - the account of there being no men helped - though she was ready to grab her sword when a peeping-tom showed. But she really has no interest in herself and she could never love again - this is why she's so hostile when it comes to males interested in her - it brings up too much pain. She's not always hostile though, she can be quite kind and at times generous. Other characters? They're only minor, they serve as a place in a plot, so I will summarise them in smaller chunks. Steinn Wynfyd - he had a wife, but left her when he defected, like X'hayu, from the Garlean Empire. They have a close working relationship and have the same goals. So he's more focused on his business and righting his wrong than idle pleasures. But he is considerably more laid back. He used to be on Saefinn's crew, so it probably brought that out in him. Oskar Thunderbrand - He's one of my antagonist and whilst he is a terrible person and incredibly dishonest and deceitful, he enjoys companionship. In fact, he has a woman in his life, whilst he's lying to her face, she tends to him and he enjoys her company. In one sense I think that's more fueled by his ego, she makes him feel good about himself...even if the stories he tells her are lies. I would say he treats the opposite gender in any special way or the same gender. After what happened in Ala Mhigo it left him cruel and bitter. Well I suppose you could say women only bring out what goodness is left of him, except X'hayu, he remembers her well and has a special price for her head. Lenu Lenunu - She's my Lalafell, I would say she's neutral. Very little is known at this point of her motives and she tends to view people on their merits and gender doesn't come into play. She's also a lone wanderer, why? Well, I'm getting started on that arc.

Looking for henchmen and relations! (Gilgamesh)
Saefinn replied to Purpleglassesguy's topic in RP Discussion
Well, you're welcome to shoot us up a line in game. Our FC occasionally has conflict and we have our bad guys, though at times our behaviour could make us the bad guys, but it isn't as simple as good and evil. I suppose I need somebody to bring out the worst in the Captain, he's been quite nice and gentlemanly recently, after himself having lost his family and pulling himself out of alcoholism and essentially making himself clean. The captain has a dark side and nothing has really encouraged him to show it and he's been on this whole tirade of bettering himself, but it would be *such* a shame to knock him down. Essentially all the captain has left is his crew, he would happily give his life for them, in fact, he almost has. What motive could your guy have? Well, we have recently starting smuggling Garlean goods, we have Garlean defectors in our ranks - two of whom who were heavily involved with the conflict in Ala Mhigo. -
[Gilg] LADIES' NIGHT OUT- Open to all ladies!
Saefinn replied to Xifang's topic in Chronicled Events
Hehe, it has been fun. Aye, Saefinn's my main character, but I also have X'hayu and Steinn (her boss...ish). Oh and there's Oskar, he's my bad guy for a couple of story arcs, but he's not bothered us since our Black Mage *dealt* with him. Well, I'll certainly be around for more RP stuffs. -
[Gilg] LADIES' NIGHT OUT- Open to all ladies!
Saefinn replied to Xifang's topic in Chronicled Events
Was fun, yes, there was a male in your midst. Sadly I couldn't stay too long, it was challenging bringing X'hayu in, the introverted warrior woman who's tough as nails and not really one to engage socially. But her 'boss', if you can call him that at least has been nagging her to relax more, so the perfect excuse to bring her in, even if she remained quiet and socially awkward for most of it. Still, you guys got her into a swim suit, I suppose the lack of men made her more comfortable, she hates guys trying to pick her up - she pulled one of my crew over the counter because she thought he was flirting. Just as well the males who did turn up went away, it could have ended badly otherwise. -
Nope, I wouldn't say it's weird at all. It's why when I set up my FC I didn't really want a large active membership because I wanted to create a smaller tight nit group. It does make things more challenging when members leave or go on hiatus because it's a lot more noticeable when you take a dip in membership, but I find it's better. You get to know the people you're RPing with better and of course you find it easier to work with each other's dynamics. Also, sometimes in a big group it's easy to lose track with what's going on. Though, I enjoy going to big events, but I don't like to make it a frequent thing.

A Nervous Paladin's Plea - How to Make Friends and Flash Enemies
Saefinn replied to Steel Wolf's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Gilgameshian represent! I think these are genuine concerns, but i've learned as healer and a tank that you will wipe and it's okay, I call it a part of the learning process. Protip, I wiped on CT because I instinctively dodged AOEs on Atomos, when really I should have taken it like a man. Wiping a 24 man raid IMO is quite epic, so I feel pride more than anything. At the moment, it's CT for me, have done the HMs, but am currently too cowardly to heal the Ex's , but will get round to it once my relic is +1 and possibly I level 80 (currently 75). You'll get your ragers, but actually, I find people are more often than not tolerant of others, at least compared to other MMOs, of course as a tank, you get the advantage of getting a group quick, so really and truly, the DPS should be nice to you, because they could just end up in another long queue. That said not everybody thinks that way. However, our FC does some endgame, whilst we're not end game focused, being mainly RP, we do have tines we run content and we're always happy running with others, so by all means give us a shout and we could drop an invite to our ooc ls. -
Never saw this thread until now. But awesome. I know you're already in our OOC LS, but let us know if we can ever help out or if you ever want to hit up for RP. If you're looking to ever do business, we can help shift any wares for your merchants and traders, especially if they need to be 'under the radar' if you know what I mean - we know all the right people to bribe or blackmail - there's a crew always up for a little work and likewise, we often find ourselves in trouble, so there may be the desire to call on mercenaries to help.
-
Awesome. Lemme know if we can help or if you're ever looking for a band of pirates to work with...aye, we're the unlawful sort and like to make money, but the Wayward crew does indeed have a moral compass and has a soft spot for the underdogs.
-
The Captain's single...just saying. Granted he's not the relationship sort, but with a bit of peer pressure he could be lured into this event.
-
Also, I feel I should mention. We have an OOC LS, we accept people from other FC's to join up for maximum RP.
-
Thanks for the kind words! We're usually about peak hours. I think everybody in the FC works, I'm personally bound by the GMT time zone and I work shifts, so I'm not always easy to catch. Generally we go by EST and I would say we're busiest after 5pm EST. When I do the early shift (like this week) I'm barely around during peak times. Weekends, you're almost guaranteed to catch me and some crew mates. Even then, I work some weekends.

Play ALL THE THINGS! - Avoiding the Mary Sue Trap
Saefinn replied to Steel Wolf's topic in RP Discussion
For my dear pirate captain, I had him take down the path of an Arcanist, which led him to become a Scholar, hence he parades egotistically with the title 'Scholar Captain', but I wanted to incorporate other classes, for craft, alchemy was the most obvious, but as he's still technically new to it, he's not brilliant. He's managed to sudbue foes with his potions, but the other night when we caught an enemy, he attempted to use his alchemy to get information, thinking he managed to mix together a truth potion, but it didn't work. On the other hand, he's tried learning to wield a melee weapon, initially getting help with an axe, but later found his hands were better suited for a lance, again, he's far from proficient with it, but it allows me to parade with a lance when suitable. I also had one of my crews Black Mages teach him a few things about offensive magic to help him getting better use out of his Grimoire, it was this help that later led him to being able to summon an egi. But at the of the day the only skill he's only really good at is related to being a Scholar. He's also a culinerian, but rather, he's somebody who can cook and not a master chef...his crew have groaned at his miqo'bobs before. He also likes to fish as a pass time, as it was the only quality time he got from his alcoholic father. I think it's realistic in that people will learn multiple skills in their life time and won't be a one trick pony, just of course be aware of the level of hard work it may take to master one and it may be unrealistic to master everything. Hence the captain isn't parading as a dragoon, but a lancer instead. However, I won't be doing all the classes, I think he's got enough for the time being, -
We are recruiting Hey all you wonderful people (and hi to all those less wonderful)! Okay, this FC doesn't have much activity on the forums, but we are very much an active FC and we are looking to bring people in for some RP and also to join us for some dungeons and end game content, bearing in mind of course, we're RP focused. You've got our spiel at the top of the page, but what kind of things have we been doing since beta phase 4, when we set up? We've been regulars to some parties, mainly at Costa Del Sol and the Tavern Nights and back in September we had our own big event, The Masquerade, which was a success. Whilst we've not planned anything big since, with the FC trying to stay under the radar ICly. In the mean time we've had some of our own story arcs and smaller, more casual RP. It has been quite exciting for the crew, from the Captain turning himself in out of guilt, almost ready to swing the hangman's noose before having his crew knocking some sense into him, to besting our nemesis, Arisran Crycreed and his Maelstrom crew at his game, we've fended off The Black, we've broken a member out of a Rhalgr-cult fueled trance and expelled a demon from a Black Mage, not to mention kept people in hiding from the Holy See, Syndicate and The Garlean Empire, we've also seen some tragedy, with the death of a couple of associates close to members of the crew. We've also saved a possessed Dragoon and without the use of violence. We've also smuggled, with our main supplier coming from Ul'dah (The Steinn Company) and exporting illegal and illegally acquired goods out to Little Ala Mhigo and Ishgard, with a Captain whose managed to gain the trust of those, who are generally un-trusting, not without effort though. We've also seen the Captain pull some stupid-arse stunts, thought it wise to try and steal from the Tonberry King...to be fair to him, he still got the loot! The crew still felt the need to scold him. We're a laid back bunch, we enjoy the creative side to roleplay and do it because it's fun, not because we take ourselves too seriously, but that doesn't mean we don't take lore seriously. Roleplay can be combination of lighthearted and seriousness, there are moments we try to lighten things up, usually when we start drinking and partying in our down time, but some plots are driven by the emotional force of the characters behind them and things don't always go well, in fact, the crew has a habit of making enemies. We use it and we immerse ourselves into our roleplay and the stories we create together. We like people to have a positive and down to earth attitude and we try to encourage everybody to get involved, which is why we haven't gone on a big recruitment drive to get as many RPers in as possible, we like it cosey and to feel part of a group. That said, we are still looking for members to join us. We don't have much in the way of videos for roleplay, but here is a snippet from our Masquerade Event to get an idea of the sort of thing we like doing: Contact me in game, or one of my officers, Poe, Joundi or S'anhu and I'm sure we'd be happy to have you sign up. Alternatively, click on my sig for our site - to filter out spam bots, you'll need to use the application form to join. We were previously an open group on Enjin, but the spam bots hit us.
-
I missed the last one, well I was present for all of 5 minutes, blame work party, I turned up drunk (I suppose it was authentic), but ended up feeling really tired and left it there. Still, find these fun and my crew usually like going, so I'll try and be there.

As a person with two Miqo'te characters, I'll offer my perspective. Like one of the people to first reply to this thread, I don't like playing disproportionate characters, at least all the time. I do have a Roegadyn alt and a Lalafell, I've tried playing those types before and haven't liked it. But I also like to have something a little more interesting rather than your average human type - not to say they aren't interesting, I mean there's a plethora of things that make the human race interesting without delving into the realms of fantasy - but I mean to look at on screen, I played a Hume in FFXI and wished I picked something else - Mithra would have been my choice, but they didn't have male ones. Now, I'm not really a Miqo'te for any of their 'sexiness', whilst Saef does play it on, but that's not the driving force of his character - he's got a little bit of an ego. X'hayu on the other hand, she really doesn't fit into that category, I'll come onto her in a moment. Saefinn is my Pirate Captain, he's distant from her culture, in fact, he thinks it's silly - he's killed a Nunh before...and he deserve what was coming to him . His grandad was once a part of it and the Keeper side of things is worked into there, but he joined a crew of Roegadyn and Highlander sailors (called the Sons of Lilja, led by man called 'Lilja'), so his family history is very much in a culture separate to his blood's. The pirate captain thing plays to his ego a little bit and was warped by whore houses, but his "the ladies love me" thing usually comes as a bit of comic relief, but doesn't actually come out that often. Plus, he's drunk as an Irishman at times.. Why didn't I do a Highlander or a Roegadyn instead? Because I don't feel a person's background has to be tied to their race's culture or heritage. I thought the history worked for him and in a way does define how he is, he has a lot of respect for his granddad and it offers him a different perspective of Miqo'te culture. X'hayu on the other hand, just by the name you can tell I decided to embrace Miqo'te lore a bit more, but I really wanted to stem from the "I'm a cute/sexy Miqo'te" thing, or "Hey, I'm one of many sexual partners to a Nunh". She was a one-cat girl, but well...there's a lot of backstory there. Let's just say, she's alone. She won't tolerate advances and she prefers to cover herself up instead of tarting herself up. A complete contrast to the captain, she's teetotal and she's quite the introvert, which does make bringing her to events a little bit difficult, she'd normally order an orange juice and sit back and watch. I do find the lore behind the Miqo'te interesting, hence I ended up making my alt one with more background in Miqo'te culture. Why so many? Well, I suppose they do breed like...well, Miqo'te.

Sadly, my graphics card has given up on me and will be getting new one on Saturday, sadly I'll be unable to invite, but am sure one of the other members are around to drop an invite. Anyhow, hope you have fun, with luck I'll be back at the weekend. With times, they're varied, mostly EST I think, we've got some PST, even GMT (like me) and whatever it is in Australia.

The Pirates one might have been Pirates of a Wayward Star. We're roleplay focused, we do have some people who do endgame content there really isn't an endgame focus, so if that's what you're after, then it may not suit you. I was initially trying to push for an end game group, but RP has kind of taken over ha ha. However, we've recently decided on a Manifesto for the FC, so if it's something that tickles your fancy, you're welcome to have a look to get an idea of what kind of group we are. The Wayward Star Manifesto If it don't suit you, there's a whole plethora of groups out there. Might be worth having a look at the linkshells section, might help influence your choice a bit better.
