  1. Battle of the FCs? Winner gets Kage? This way you wouldn't have to make a decision at least.
  2. I can make it harder and put up Equilibrium for your decision too. And I'm sure there many many others can offer places in their FCs as well. Go with your gut and where you want to be. I'm sure there will be no hard feelings from anyone, maybe a little jealousy at someone else getting such an amazing BLM Lala to their ranks.
  3. I know there is some bias because of how everything makes you feel and I swear I've been honestly not trying to just automatically point fingers and go "THEY ALL SUCK!". But the way you told it just seemed incredibly sneaky. I've had friends from one group rag on friends from another group and I hate when they do that and they don't even know them. So I've honestly been trying to not just straight out point fingers. They are your friends...IRL friends more importantly, which makes me more inclined to say there's someone else building the groups, not your friends. And that the situation is more in this other nameless person's hands, a FC lead or officer. I don't know. It's just *spreads arms* a really terrible situation...
  4. >.< Yah, idk they bailed on you immediately after leaving a dungeon....to me that seems like they knew there wasn't space in the Extreme group, but didn't want to tell you, felt guilty and so ran a dungeon with you so that it wouldn't be so bad. I've been trying hard to not talk poorly about your friends, because well their your friends, but that's really harsh. It most likely wasn't their fault, someone else making the group make up...but the actions make it looks like they knew. Also....if you have highly geared people who don't really NEED the gear from Extremes cause they got tons of Allagen or myth...they should have filtered in a few lower geared people in order to HELP raise their gear levels, since it's so important that such things happen to run coil.
  5. Talk with your friends in your FC and with your friends out of your FC. A certain vain cat that goes by the name of Salem has always given me sound advice in the past . You can tell him Evie called him vain by the way, I swear he changes his character's appearance weekly .
  6. Oh I quite enjoy random, "How are you" type of RP. It can last a few minutes or turn into something more. Though, and this has been brought up in other posts, I normally don't just go up to a person and say hello very often as I don't want to interrupt them in whatever they are doing or end up bothering someone who isn't an RPer. So I tend more of the safe side of things. However, if someone else comes up to me and waves or salutes or something and I'm not afk I tend to respond back. It could just be a simple bow back and then the person runs off or it could turn into more. Someone on Balmung bowed at me the other day and I responded, we ended up with a short conversation (OOC) before they ran off. They were just so excited about their new lala and wanted to show it off, but no one would pay attention.
  7. *huggles the Kage* It really sucks when you feel you don't belong with a group of people, especially when a few of them with your friends. I've been there before in another game, and I stuck around for months and months longer than I should have. It weighs down on your heart and really does more damage than good. If you're already 90% out the door, my recommendation is to go, find another FC. It'll be liberating and you'll feel so much better. Don't let it get to the point of you dread getting on to play because of where you are. If the bad moments out weigh the good it's not worth staying. Your friends will still be your friends no matter where you go FC wise. Some maybe a little butthurt, but they'll come around. And the others who don't....well don't want to judge people I don't know, but from experience they probably weren't friends to begin with. But in your case with them being IRL friends I don't think you'll run into the last issue. That's just my experience with being in a similar situation and how honestly walking away was the BEST thing I ever did. It hurt at first, but really was the best for my health and sanity.
  8. No worries about being picky you have to find your perfect home for your character. We don't script RPs in Equilibrium, we have a general idea with direction of a storyline, but it's by no means scripted. We had a major RP this weekend where the dark side should have "gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids" (surprise meeting, better skills etc), but due to the way RP happened they didn't exactly win the day. We knew we wanted to have a meeting of the evil side and the good side, but how that turned out was up to the RP. There is also impromptu RP that happens all the time. Our guild has one of those RP tags, so to me personally that means if you stop and talk to me I'll stop and talk to you. Granted some of this has happened while I was in a mixture of terribly ugly low level fishing gear and had to make excuses for it. But that's my personal take on it. That being said members of our guild aren't required to RP and we've added a few members who are friends of friends and don't RP, which is why FC chat is typically OOC. And just asking for RP in FC chat, can probably get at least one taker, sure meeting up is planned but that's about it. In short, RP isn't scripted, but it isn't CONSTANT. I'm honestly not sure I would even have the stamina for such an endeavor. Just like I can't run CT for hours on end, because it gets old and exhausting. So to I think would occur when trying to stay in character. That's not to say I haven't done extended 6 to 8 hour RP sessions on the weekends, but to do so everytime I'd log into the game pretty sure I'd go insane...especially since I know have 8 RP characters each with their own personality and story...it would be like having schizophrenia or at least how I would imagine it. And while I agree your character shouldn't BE you, you are however part of your character no matter how hard you try not to be. You made it, you wrote it, part of you is in there even if it's small. Example...I HATE tea, my character Evie hates tea. I have no reason why she hates tea, she just does. That's part of me in her. Though in order to try and not derail your original topic too much (sorry about that ) I'll stop with that (though it's an interesting discussion and not sure if it's shown up before on the forums). I really don't know of many guilds with this type of set up and that are dark aligned. I know whenever I talk to Konner Kincaid in game he's in character (FC lead of the Order of Sword and Rose) but I believe his FC is good aligned. The Laughing Lady is more....neutral than dark, an anything goes type...not sure if their FC is IC, but I know their LS is. So there's at least two other options you might look into and get more information for. And finally....sorry for the lengthy post.
  9. Equilibrium is a dual sided guild, having both an evil side and a good side, many of us have characters in both. You can check us out here on the RPC linkshell page or on our guild website here. My only concern is that you want to always be in character? (If I understood things right). My guild commonly is in OOC in the FC chat and we play around in mumble as we typically run dungeons and such OOC. Most of our guild moved here together to get away from the OOC drama in SWTOR so we don't really want more of that. It not be much to reassure your fears of that, but throwing it out there anyways. We're all human, but we do try to not let IC interfere or cloud OOC. With that said you are still MORE than welcome to talk to our FC lead, give us a try or any of that. Hope you find what you're looking for!
  10. Hey no need to be shy! There are plenty of friend people here so I'm sure you'll find your forever home. That being said, my FC Equilibrium is a dual sided RP (we have both evil and good sides, and many of us have characters in both). We currently have a FC story-line and many members who are willing to help with whatever your heart desires (PvE, PvP, or RP). We're also trying to start hosting community events, one of which are the up coming Chocobo races. Based upon how the first one goes, we'd like to host more. If you have any questions feel free to check us out in the Linkshell Page here on the RPC or at our guild website here. Two other guilds that I have experience with that I know does a lot of RP is Harbingers of Dawn and Order of Sword and Rose (they are starting a large episodic FC RP as well).
  11. well this is only my 2nd MMO overall, first being SWTOR. And we all know Bioware isn't the best. I mean they're just NOW getting player housing after being promised it for what, 2.5 years now.
  12. A friend told me about World of Darkness MMO, which I believe is based off a table top game. It sounds interesting and kind of dark, which I like. But there's really no date for it and has been in and out of development for a while. I believe it's being made by the creators of EVE online. Again don't know much about it, just want I was told/remember/googled in 5 secs.
  13. I think you're right honestly. I mean I'm only level 15 my self. Lol. I'll need to build a set of base combat rp rule. Only thing that I could see as a possible issue with rp dueling is that it might get confusing about what is going on with numerous people all typing fight actions at once. Course I could also be over thinking that part, cause, honestly, who hasn't rped in a crowded room at least once. Honestly I don't think your character levels in game should have much if anything to do with your characters skills RPly. Just cause I have 4 classes leveled to 50 doesn't have ANYTHING to do with my characters background. I have give or take 25 years of background to work with due to my character's age. So unless my character started training at the age of 5 or 6 I doubt there would be any heroic level of skill, minus the fact that if you were to have protegee like abilities. That's not to say that the rule works with all characters, some may in fact have trained since a young age, or have worked their ways through the ranks the Sultansworn. However, unless you make complicated character sheets that detail exactly the character's level of knowledge/training there's not really any way to gauge this besides hoping that people don't over skill their character in order to increase their badass level. I choose to just have faith that people don't godmod and if I do run into that, I say something to the person OOCly before deciding if the RP is worth it to continue. Now as to a general combat system. My FC uses RP style supplemented with a very basic D20 roll. There are plenty online ones, we used this with great success last night in our own giant RP fight for our FC story. It made things take a little longer however. Also through our trials last night we decided that we needed to add small things like debuffs to rolls. For example a character was stabbed in the sword arm but continued to roll a d20, when he probably should have been subtracting between 2 to 4 on his rolls due to the bleeding and the injury itself. Though with such a large group, it might be better to just use the d20 roll, establish a combat order and god with that. We just did attacker did d20 roll, the defender did a d20 roll at the same time. If the attackers number was higher than the defenders then the attack hit. Now this worked for us but we had a group of 6 or 7 fighting, not sure how big the groups will be for this, and it could get confusing fast.
  14. Always interested in RP and last RP I participated in with HOD was tons of fun, so I'm sure this one will be awesome too.
  15. My family is dutch, so I can kind of relate a little bit, though I have NO knowledge of the language. My grandfather's family came across the giant pond to the US. My dad always likes to remind me of it by saying "If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much." . Needless to say my family is a bit proud of their heritage. Anyways...Welcome to the RP and Balmung! Hope to see you around the server .
  16. Welcome to Balmung and the RPC! With so many cats, one or two more won't be a problem. I've got one myself, pretty sure most people do or if they don't deep down they want to make one.
  17. This is definitely different then how we'd been working on planning ours. I will definitely try to be there as a spectator come your event, at least as a spectator. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
  18. Newly printed flyers appear on the Market Boards all over Eorzea calling for any would be chocobo racer, trainer, or dreamer. ((OOC: In non Eorzean terms, the race will be on Saturday March 15, at 7pm EST starting at Black Brush station. If you wish to participate in the race please get there a little earlier so you can pay your entry fee and so that we can jot down your name. Chocobos are the only mount allowed in the race, others could cause panic among spectators, and we wouldn't want people to be mistaken for Ascians when you come riding a floating eye. The race will consist of three laps around a designated track. There will be three members of Equilibrium-RP at various spots around the track, the locations will be given on the day of the race. All racers must ride past these three checkpoints in order to be qualified to win the race. Top three finishers will be paid prizes, the sums based upon the number of entries, so the more people to participate the higher the prize! While my guild will not be in charge of betting Raeras and her team of bookies will be there to facilitate for your gambling needs. Though as this is the first race, the odds will probably not be based on previous races. This first race goes through a lowbie area as we didn't want to excluded low level characters by racing through Mor Dhona, so we've chosen a track that will hopefully have some obstacles to slow down riders and make things challenging. Depending on attendance and interest higher level tracks will be considered later. I did notice that today there was another event occurring on Balmung of a similar nature. I guess great minds thing alike . I hope everyone enjoys both races. Please remember to check back on this post come Friday March 14th to see the map of the race track posted on this thread. Can't give those intrepid riders too much of a headstart in practice.))
  19. Don't know if you've chosen a last name yet, but something to consider is that many English last names developed based upon the job you had. Example, Smith, most likely the last name of a family of blacksmiths, keep in mind that most of the time such jobs were inherited and pasted down through family. So if you know a little bit of what you're planning for your character's background, like maybe about father's job, you could choose a last name related to that. Or if not I found the randomize button will give you some good lore related choices as well.
  20. My first thought was. "IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE!"
  21. Don't worry about needing to rant. Everyone needs someone to talk to. If you just want to chat you can message me here. I'm not on Gilgamesh, so I can't say for you to PM me in game...sorry. Though I'm sure some other caring soul from your server will make the suggestions at some point today. Hope things get better. *Tackle hugs*
  22. Welcome to the RPC! I'm kind of a lore nut myself so to find lore I'd recommend looking at the wiki here (it has basic lore and a really good timeline from the past, though it is very general). You can also browse through the RP forums here as people bring up lore questions all the time (current one that is back is about Miqo'te mating). There's also the Lore Train. I haven't reallly read many of the articles so I'm not positive about the information, thought I believe the articles are written my anynomoose (sp?), who I've picked up is pretty well informed/has the pleasure to talk with the designers about lore. And finally there is the Lodestone forums. There is a whole lore section there and some of it is quite informative. Anyways I paused to type this up before I head to work....so need to run now otherwise I'll be late and my kids (I teach high school) will wonder why they can't get in to use the computers/play minecraft 45 minutes before school starts. *waves good bye before popping her head back around the corner* Oh if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
  23. Don't be afraid of the legacy title with Balmung. I'm not a legacy player, but it has given an interesting RP aspect to lore. The community here is really great, lots of events, lots of RP. You almost step all over it at times there's so much. Lots of events are posted here for you to see, there are two I believe happening this weekend alone, possibly more that I'm not aware of. There's also quite a few guilds with the tag <<__-RP>>. I'm in one myself and if an person walks up and just starts talking I go with it and quite enjoy it. With the RP tag over my head, I hope people are reading it as "Open for RP! Come in and enjoy!" No doubt there will be many many people who will reply to this thread saying that they are open and willing for RP. So you won't be short on friends, as long as your not too shy. So Welcome to the RPC, and I hope you find your forever home. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
  24. Welcome to Balmung! Glad you could come. There's plenty of fun linkshells and FC to join, including Equilibrium *shameless plug for own FC*. Olofantur will be around shortly to give you some linkshell ideas as well as to where you can find RP. If you have any questions feel free to ask, most people are more than willing to help.
  25. I'd be interested in joining such a linkshell if anyone is planning on setting it up.
