  1. @Neneso Neso I feared as much. I was hoping that despite being from Cactuar I could still like role-play over discord or something, but lets be real. It's fun to take pictures with other peoples. I already have so many screenshots from this game and that's before I started getting into roleplaying! That being said that is incredibly gracious of you to offer me a spot in your FC in order to receive Heat of Battle! I didn't have an FC during my leveling for Balmung and man that is arduous. I'm having a serious debate of just getting a skip potion for Mateus because I'm just not loving the idea of having to do 2.x again, haha! Thank you again for responding to me and if I do muster the emotional strength to subject myself to leveling again I'll be sure to pester you!
  2. @Kieron Lohengrin Oh good to know! I stopped playing during 2.2 and didn't come back to the game until 3.4 so I missed the restoration of Idyllshire. What a tricksters gambit of them to pull but glad to see they maintained their positive relationship! Thank you for the information! @Valence I had no idea that the Consortium even existed so this has been very enlightening and also very inspiring! Though reading about a mass murdering of the Sylph makes me sad; they are so cute. This will definitely be of great use and I appreciate you directing me towards it!
  3. @Aegir Thank you so very much for the well thought out and compiled information! It has helped me immensely and given me a lot to think about. The summaries you provided will definitely come in handy and also save me from having to max out the Sahagin just yet because I, for one, have not even bothered to unlock them yet, haha! Once again I appreciate you taking your time to respond to my question. I hope the rest of your day treats you well!
  4. Although some beast tribes remain reclusive, there are also more sociable tribes that already have known established city-state contacts. For example the Sylph and Gridanians have a fairly cordial relationship while the Namazu have been seen living both in Kugane and friends of the people of Namai. My question is to what extent do you think it's appropriate to discuss relations with beast tribes? I'm considering making my Lalafell a small time merchant who is trying to break into beast tribe trading as it is a relatively untapped market, but I'm not sure if that would be too "out" there. I have a house in the Lavender Beds so I want to put that into her background and I was like why would a Lalafell be in Gridania and was like well until the liberation of Ala Mhigo and Roma, Gridania was the middle ground between City States and would make it possible to travel to different beast tribes. I'm still drafting though so perhaps that isn't a viable solution! Any thoughts on how beast tribes and character motivations or backstory would be appreciated!
  5. I know a few NPC role-players, and they tend to run in private circles unless someone outside initiates. Depending on your character people may interact superficially: my friend who role-plays Sir Zephirin will get slapped on the street. It's an acknowledgement and sometimes people enjoy rehashing old beef or thoughts with NPC characters. If your server has an NPC guild you might be able to start there, but if not I'd highly recommend looking up Ishgardian NPC role-players. They seem to have a general consensus of when and where to publicly role-play. I'm sure some are on this site but both Twitter and Dreamwidth also have some individuals who do exclusive NPC roleplaying! Also do not be shy to propose AUs (Alternative Universes) to people you are really interested in with people you've come to have an established repport with. It gives you a bit more creative freedom with your NPC and it also can allow your partner to really explore a different aspect of a character without committing it to their in-universe character.
  6. Hi everyone! I'm panini and I'm a super casual artist! Lately I haven't been drawing that much but I'm hoping that by sketching a few characters I don't have to design might get me back into the groove of things. As you will soon see I draw mostly feminine bodies but I am always looking to branch out and practice so if you want to see someone just try to draw your more masculine characters hit me up! Chibis/Lalafells Full Body I hope that gives you a good idea of my style and gives you a sense of what I like to do. Most sketches will be either have shading or painting as that is some of my favorite aspects of drawing. Most of the time whenever I draw I'm posting way too many WIPs of the process on twitter so if you'd like to see more and also gauge my workflow feel free to check out my twitter! Thank you for your time; I greatly appreciate it!
  7. Hi everyone, I am panini! I have been playing FFXIV on and off since 2013 and I have always thought about joining the RP community! My own experience with roleplaying is akin to a resume gap. I used to role-play a ton when I was younger but I haven't done any roleplaying since around 2015. Though I do play dungeons and dragons and I like to draw character designs neither have heavy creative writing elements. As such I am very out of touch with my written voice! When you are in high school it's a lot easier to be like "eh close enough" than later when you don't want to be dead weight as an RP partner. I'm hoping that getting accustomed to and slowly participating in the FFXIV roleplaying community I can build up my confidence and get back into collaborative storytelling! Even if it's not explicitly roleplaying I do like to world build and talk about characters so feel free to tell me your concepts and ideas! RP Style I am most comfortable with the "paragraph" style of roleplaying. As any good AOL rper from 2008 I have experience writing asterisks (script?) as well, but it is not a style I actively look to replicate. Character Archetypes As of the past few years, I have been trying hard with every D&D campaign and OC I design to try different character archetypes! I found I defaulted to the common sense, hedging bets kind of characters alongside romantic fatalism ideologies. So! I have been trying to branch out towards other traits, but most likely I'll default to a comfort zone at the beginning because, oops, I'm a baby. In Game Activities I'm a glamour hunter who refuses to craft, usually! However I'm dedicated to my cause so in the past 4 days I've leveled a LTW from 0 to 60 so I can start doing Namazu quests in order to get the Namazu Bell. I do what I must to look cute in game. General Questions What is the etiquette of cross-world roleplaying? While I see many world events and threads I haven't noticed any major cross-world roleplaying partners. Granted they might be doing 1 on 1s and not have it on public display or I have not simply looked in to hard! I know it varies from person to person, and as a glamour fan myself I understand that there is something so fun about photo shooting characters together, but I was wondering if people have a general sense on how common it actually is? I have a Mateus character and a Balmung character but I am very fond of my Cactuar account. For Balmung I'm in a fever dream that I'll just wait it out until the next expansion comes out with a new race to role-play on, haha, while on Mateus it's just the time commitment on level an alt! I might later on be more compelled to develop and play those characters but for now I'm hoping to maybe stay in my little bubble a bit longer! TL;DR I'm panini; I'm very verbose and you should tell me about your characters!
