  1. I grew up alongside FFXI. I remember all the joy and wonder of running around Sarutabaruta and finding all the cool "play" spots where you found crawlers and whatnot for farming fame and gil. I knew that zone like the back of my hand before I left. The same went for North Gustaberg looking for bees and goblins on the hill. So many fond memories of slaughtering level 6-9 mobs while gathering materials and RPing with the linkshell... /sigh. I guess part of the reason why that game will always have a special place in my heart is because it grew as I did. And I changed as a gamer because of it. Oh, FFXI, others (my WoW guild) may say you are a "broken old doll" of a game best left in the attic, but I know how beautiful you really are.
  2. oops, missed the sitcom part. That makes more sense now, actually. LOL
  3. I'm in Midwest USA (Central time represent!). However, I'm looking to relocate after my Masters to somewhere different. Either west coast (SoCal or Oregon), east coast (Penn or North Carolina), or somewhere Canadian (Toronto or Montreal) for my PhD. Any advice, peeps? And btw: No Australians? This needs to be fixed asap!
  4. Ok... that cant be overlooked... AHEM... Blackadder Fawlty Towers Porridge Red Dwarf The Office Phoenix Nights I'm Alan Partridge Spaced Anyway this isn't a UK vs Canada debate... I actually like the looks of the place How DARE you forget Doctor Who! :cat:
  5. Azreiel, FFXI was my first MMO,too. It will always have a very, very special place in my heart. A very, big, warm and comfy spot. Through all the frustration and the fact that I never leveled beyond 44 (though I had at least 4 characters with jobs leveled to 37; don't judge!) I still love that game. It is taking an extra-ordinary amount of willpower not to reinstall it and see the world one last time from the beginning before FFXIV takes control.
  6. My old PC decided to start making BIOS beeps of death after I spent a week checking out PCs that might replace her should she suddenly decide to stop working...I tempted fate on that one.
  7. I just want the pretty box...and the art-booklet thingie!
  8. I LOVE ADOBE CS4!!! I fixed a few of the issues that were addressed. I used the blending options that Soren Miren was talking to adjust the inner stroke, add an outer glow, and drop a shadow beneath the letters. Then I feathered around the text layer. Edit: I also changed text font from Vijaya to Vivialdi. After (Using Photoshop CS4): Before (Using GIMP 2):
  9. I think Keir is making a very good point! I remember reading something about "Leveling" being absent from FFXIV. If this is so, the concept of job advancement/leveling like we saw in FFXI is completely inappropriate to compare FFXIV with: they are two very different job systems, they just look similar. Can someone (perhaps in the Beta?) confirm if there is a concept similar to the leveling from 1-80 we saw in FFXI?
  10. After listening to the podcast, I am really excited because it appears that the RPC member-guilds are going to all fit together in the same world very, very well. Cross-group RP and events look like they will be an absolute BLAST. So excited!!! :cheer:
  11. I just tested the benchmark on my lunch tray (re: 17.3" desktop replacement laptop). With an i7 720Q 1.6ghz (with turbo boost to 3.2ghz) phantoming 8 cores, 6gigs of ddr3, Windows 7, and a nvidia 230M got a 1112 on low settings. Updating drivers and trying again.
  12. Does the i7 also use hyper-threading? Because thats what tanked my score, apparently.
  13. I started to after hearing the Film Sack episode but I completely lost interest after that weird dude started singing nonsensically. Thats, like, the whole movie...
  14. I'm going to try again when I get my hands on photoshop. There should be some way to outline the text so that it is readable over darker areas.
  15. Is that a workstation video card?
  16. Point goes to Mythis for picking up the muppet from Jim Henson's "Labyrinth."
  17. Hopefully, SE will take note of the request for a RP server or servers (in a similar move to Blizzard with WoW). If so, then it will just be a question of what one. The only problem would be people who roll on the server (intentionally or not) and have no intention to RP ("What is teh RP? I want f@t l00tz!").If SE doesn't release RP servers, well, then we get to (as my Directing professor called it) haggle like horse traders over all our options. But I don't believe this is worth getting so worked up over this so early. But we have (checking countdown clock)...78 days and 7 hours (as of my writing this). Lets relax a bit and keep our heads . Bonus points to those who get the image reference.
  18. I got a 1430 @ high settings and 2700-2850 on low resolution. Needless to say, I'm kind of surprised as I'm running a 3.2 ghz i5, a NVIDIA 9800 GT, and 8 gigs DDR3 on Windows 7. I was expecting slightly better. However, a guild mate mentioned that the benchmark and aplha were not friendly with hyper-threading processors (like my shiny, new i5). Hopefully, that will change with the release in September. If not, I might have to drink the heart's blood of a software engineer at Square-Enix to quell the blood lust that will result.
  19. It took me an hour and a half (mostly fighting fonts to see what would be readable and at what size) to create this after transcribing what I heard from the theme song found earlier. I used the lyrics for the text and cropped one of the very obvious FFXIV images we've seen floating around. I made it using GIMP 2. But I did it. It is my first one. Ever. Now, what do you all think?
  20. right now it looks like... Elezen Female Wildwoods Most likely starting in Gridania, as that makes sense for lore of Archers and Lancers (the two disciplines that I'm interested in most)
