  1. I'm not surprised to be honest, FRAPS always did love to nom away at your system memory . Why I just use a 'free' version aka.. 30 sec video etc. Just makes a great tool to check your FPS + screenshot + quickly take some video Bandicam is really good. A few of my friends have used it and never had problems. In fact.. not sure why I even have FRAPS still installed HAHAHA. I forgot bandicam lets you do 10mins of recording per video (unregistered) while FRAPS does 30 seconds edit: there is another out there called Dxtory but I have never used it
  2. Nox by chance do you know what CPU(processor) and GPU (Graphics card) you have in that laptop... also how much Ram?
  3. do you have the video capture set to 30 FPS? the free version of fraps caps your FPS to 30 when doing video capture (record a movie) If you have the paid version you can select 60 FPS or 50FPS ; it could just be "capping" your FPS when recording so your 100+ FPS drops to 30FPS which makes it look like you are lagging. I know when I had a full version of Fraps many years ago it had no problems with 50 or 60 FPS recording. I will say some people have complained that despite being set to 60 FPS the recording can make it seem like your system is lagging, but I think that might be related to Vsync issues (like when LoTRO for me is put on Vsync it used to stutter until Turbine finally patched that bug out)
  4. An excellent video that was neutral and provided a lot of information as to the perks of both servers Orson Wells Approves
  5. *slams down bag of Gil* JUST TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY!!!! :bouncy: i want it i want it i want it :bouncy: Edit: Those cops are really bad drivers
  6. I just use the free version of FRAPS ... or Steam. niteshadeo: that should happen (better performance), since you are no longer running explorer.exe Basically windows gets to take a break from your desktop and can unload it (or at least put it aside) so you get just a bit more ram and processing power. Borderless Windowed vs Fullscreen for me is literally a 200pt difference in score (fullscreen scores better). On older systems with less processing power (or video card ram / or system memory) you will find Fullscreen works better. If your PC rig is top of the line with like 16GB of ram, a crazy insane CPU and like a $500 video card then borderless windowed will run almost identical to fullscreen since you have so much processing power to spare
  7. it depends on the hardware in that laptop. At the highest settings (Maximum) scoring 2300-ish isn't bad for a laptop. You probably would do better to turn it down to Laptop(High) or Standard settings. My friend's laptop scored around 5400 with Laptop(high), and that takes into account HDR and limb shading. Disabling HDR and limb shading would bump his score up to nearly 6000. My desktop scores around 8500 at my own custom settings, and around 4700 - 5100 for Maximum. At 2300 you will get 30FPS in normal areas but once you go into towns and fates expect 15-20 FPS. I scored that on maximum for phase 3 (benchmark 1.0 i scored around 2800 maximum) and outside of standard combat i couldn't even touch 30 FPS. Tone the graphics back a little bit and you should have no problems. Better yet... try these settings. General -Enable HDR rendering and improve overall graphic quality. : Disabled -Disable rendering of objects when not visible. (Occlusion Culling) : Enabled -Use low-detail models on distant objects. (LOD) : Enabled -Cache LOD data only when necessary. (LOD Streaming) : Disabled -Real-time Reflections : Normal -Edge Smoothing (Anti-aliasing) : Off -Transparent Lighting Quality : Normal -Grass Quality : Normal Shadows -Self : Display -Other NPCs : Display Shadow Quality -Use low-detail models on shadows. (LOD) : Enabled -Shadow Resolution : Normal - 1024p -Shadow Cascading : Best -Shadow Softening : Strong Texture Detail -Texture Filtering : Anisotropic -Anisotropic Filtering : x8 Movement Physics -Self : Full -Other NPCs : Full Effects -Naturally darken the edges of the screen. (Limb Darkening) : Disabled -Blur the graphics around an object in motion. (Radial Blur) : Enabled -Screen Space Ambient Occlusion : Off -Glare : Off Cinematic Cutscenes -Enable depth of field. : Enabled what is your score after those settings; the above settings give me almost 8500 on a i7 3770, windows 7 w/ a 2GB 7770 video card (128 bit memory bus hurts) but the game is playable at 60 FPS almost everywhere including fates (average FPS is almost 76 FPS) ... while no means as beautiful as "Maximum" the game still looks EXTREMELY good due to focusing the graphics into what counts... the textures.. shadows.. shadow effects.. lighting etc ; while sacrificing subtle improvements HDR gives as well as "distance". Objects in the distance (like when you leave Ul'Dah and see the lighthouse, on Maximum it looks AMAZING, with those settings it looks decent, but the spinning light effect is still close to top notch.
  8. I love the midlander. But why is she so sad seeming?!
  9. Ahh... Gilgamesh v Balmung... my arch nemesis!! We meet again... *insert random youtube video* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NLrjVnMO7k PS: Thank you everyone for keeping this GvB thread very mature and professional
  10. I like the sound of that name, has a very magical feel to it . 8.6 out of 10 I plan on using Fiona Swift or Fiona Swiftarrow ; not exactly unique or super original but I've never been very good with names.
  11. OMG don't even joke like that Falkner.... it could be true! Then we will all end up craving cotton candy for months. Anyhow, welcome to the forums!
  12. *attempting to find some stuff no one may of heard before* Hmmm dubstep ... dubstep.... ha! *snaps fingers* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv3VJlcuPnQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAdzYcUxSX8 Not sure about this one.. Just happy they didn't butcher this song like most remixes tend to do
  13. well not dubstep but... . btw that is a very epic playlist you got there Felix!
  14. Those are some good songs you've chosen! The Power of Darkness release by TSFH is just amazing!! Good choice for the battle hymn It's funny... now when I see Night Elves or music related to them I keep thinking back this video
  15. did someone say... dubstep? *begins to hunt down music files and favs* In-case you all have not noticed, I am a giant music lover! :bouncy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNW1ExmcMMg * my personal favorite.. this song just hits you randomly out of left field when it decides to actually kick the dubstep in; so give it a chance to build ** and just because I love you all
  16. Let's see if you all can survive.. THIS!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AJVZuQuD6M okay in all seriousness (and if that movie did not manage to kill you already), why not a bit of Sci-Fi Drama? Moon(2009)
  17. my two favorite themes, which oddly don't seem to be well known. Chaos Temple You Are Not Alone (Final Fantasy IX)
  18. Welcome Chocolina.... wait.... *looks suspicious* Hold on... *rushes off and grabs a FF13-2 strat guide*. I KNEW IT!!!! http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Chocolina You gotta tell me where you get those outfits !! :bouncy: That and why won't you carry proper end game max tier items! :bouncy: Okay in all seriousness welcome to the RPC! No need to be shy either, I can be rather shy myself yet it doesn't seem it at times. Final Fantasy 14 has a magic to it (in my book at least) which very few games can master. They know how to make the world feel alive. You even feel it during videos of the game, but it is multiplied once you actually log into the game and experience it. Welcome to the MMO scene as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and don't worry about the writing skills so much. RP is all about fun and adventure, not spell check I remember starting off RP'ing over 16 years ago back in the days of AOL 2.0!! when AOL used to mail you 100's of CD's a week!!!! I'd do RP sessions in chat rooms and maybe pull out 1 or 2 sentences tops. Now in my chat / Instant messenger sessions I can do entire pages. Skills grow in time, just like your character levels up with time and effort. As suggested by Desmond, try to get a mental picture of Ramza in your mind.. download the character creator and tinker around and find a good image of what he looks like. Might spark ideas.. what works for me is usually finding an image that speaks to me, then finding music and trying to build scenes out of that music. It is how I ended up picking Fiona's storyline. It came out of her theme since I was trying to find a very "Bard" like song and from said song her entire history just slowly came to me.
  19. if it was temporary or easy to obtain additional phials the only real use from a RP perspective I could think of (outside of someone literally wanting a sex change) is getting cursed. Like they got cursed and POOFED into something else and now have to find a cure. They could also be used to go "incognito" like changing your appearance to look like someone else so you can walk into the secret hideout of bandits.
  20. I believe you can also have multiple linkshells, but you can only have one Free Company. Everything is tied to the character though (not the account)
  21. I ordered from Amazon and got my code within 10 minutes. NA users have an 18 digit code where as Japan has a 20 digit code (so currently registration won't work for NA / EU) The preorder bonus code gives you access to Early access + bonus features http://preorder.na.finalfantasyxiv.com/us the link above is where you go to register that code. However, right now it just is letting you sign up to notify you when it is available.
  22. I actually hope they make it competitive, I just don't want to see WoW style PvP. The whole idea of gear tiers and resistance gear and accessories just seems so silly. I would like there to be different gear in terms of cosmetic look, and if there is going to be a difference it should just be that you see gear with some slight defensive buffs. Like a Tier 1 PvP armor set might give +1% def ; Tier 2 might give +3% Rather than hand out resilience where you are cutting dmg from another play by a solid 20%+. A skilled player can easily dance around a 3 or 5% defensive buff, where as WoW's system of something like a 20% dmg reduction is extremely difficult to get around since it effectively "nerfs" you in PvP until you spend enough time grinding away to buy some gear. I'm more of a fan of honest matches. Just pit people against one another and let their natural skill determine a fight, not how epic their gear is. EXPERIENCE and SKILL decide the fights , not who is better at using their anti-stunlock ring I've never had fun in WoW/Rift style PvP. Even Guild Wars annoyed me because of how elitist it became. I rather see a more classic ranking system that is determined by tournaments which constantly are refreshed. Have a bunch of people sign up and take place in 1v1 matches and you tier until you eventually end up with a Champion vs Champion for the right to say who's best. Can have a 1v1 2v2 and 4v4 ladder structure. Basically think Guild Wars style, just cut out the things that could lead to elitism (like PvP specific emotes and banners)... Would be even better if Square Enix figured out a way for people to spectate matches. Yoshi-P did mention wanting FF14 to be an eSport. What better way than have structured PvP done Tournament style w/ a spectator mode to allow people to cheer on their favorite. I got into details about such an idea on the Beta Forums but it got buried quickly under the mass of people asking silly questions like "Why can't i download the client" hehe
  23. You could also play on people's own ability to see what is not actually there. I actually Role-play a fortune teller/gypsy character on a RP site and tend to make accurate predictions by being slightly vague about a topic I can see the person is itchy about. By making it vague enough while adding some mystery then you can plant that seed in them, hoping it blossoms then as their own mind sees something that may or may not actually be there. I mean... to be honest Felix, I do sense a lot of greatness coming off your aura but I see it through a veil of stress and turmoil. A wall of adversary is before your path being guided by the hands of others. Though greatness is within your grasp there are others whom wish to see you fall. The darkness is not your friend nor is the man with no shadow. The answers you will one day seek will be cast in the grip of the forest, between moss and stone. PS: Tarot reading would be really awesome to bring into the game!
  24. Theme for my character. Hope you all enjoy!
  25. Very nice survey and covers many different grounds. It seems almost ever poll I've seen from various sites Gilgamesh ends up with a colossal player count vs other servers . Gonna be one super packed server. I'm shocked to see PvP so low compared to PvE also, but then again FF14 is attracting a lot of FF11/FF14 1.0 players where PvP wasn't a big focal point. Most shocking to me is Bard isn't dead last in this poll (yet). !!!
