  1. I am not a big PvP person , but I do enjoy the content occasionally especially if it is made so that it is drop-in friendly. Never was a big fan of special PvP gear that boosts resistances to Player vs Player content . Unique looking gear sure, but once you start adding tiers of Player Resistance is just makes it harder for casual PvP'ers to ever get their footing.
  2. Thanks!! And yep, another archer and eventual Bard... and eventual uhh,, everything else !! I love the job system and how it lets you just focus on a single character rather than having to make a lot of alts.
  3. I feel that player controlled (PC) villains do a far better job than NPC villains. The NPC villain is there for the main story or side story but they end up locked into the same pattern. A PC villain can do what he or she wishes and create any event they wish to. PC characters are also capable of changing emotional states. There is no harm in a character whom normally is good has a sudden change of character reacting to an event in a very emotional way. Suddenly they went from being a hero to now wanting revenge for that moment and perhaps might even turn on their own friends in blind rage. While this doesn't constitute a solid villain, it adds drama and a sudden threat. Having a main for a Villain will require some very strong dedication and understanding that you might not be well liked. However the Rp community should also be reasonable and understand when said person is in the Duty Finder (queuing for dungeons) odds are they are going in there to level up / get gear and not be villainous. RP is also very random. You can be heading in one direction and then suddenly something else happens and things change. Okay the plot suddenly took a detour, go with it. Communication is key but also spontaneity can also end up in quite a lot of fun, especially with villainous actions.
  4. I want to wish a fond hello to everyone here at the Hydaelyn RP coalition forums. I've actually been guesting on this site for about a month now and figured it was about time to start contributing (and not being so shy). It is nice to see a site dedicated towards trying to unite and organize those who RP within the Final Fantasy community. As for a little of my background with gaming, mainly in the MMO front; I've played a ton of MMOs. - World of Warcraft - Tabula Rasa - Final Fantasy 11 - Guild Wars 2 (and Guild Wars) - Star Wars: The Old Republic - Rift - Aion - Lord of the Rings: Online - and plenty of them free-to-play kind My RP experience for in-game MMO's comes from mainly Rift, LoTRO and Tabula Rasa; But outside of gaming I've been RP'ing for almost 16 years now on various forums and through chat-clients like AIM, Yahoo, MSN etc. When it comes to FF14: ARR I am actually not sure how deep I want to take RP'ing. The world is very immersive, so I have a feeling I will end up going Medium/Heavy. As for my character, Fiona Swift, she actually is a character I created on the spot when tinkering with the character benchmark tool. I plan to do a wiki page for her which would outline her history. As for myself.. I enjoy astronomy and physics, gaming, helping others, I love computers and have built a few myself... and I love music. Rock, Metal, Folk .. mostly everything but Rap and Country oddly. My favorite kind is Composed / Symphonic (orchestra) Anyhow... Hello to everyone. Please feel free to send me messages or ask questions.
  5. With the cell phone (mobile) authenticator just make sure you write down your removal password. If your phone breaks or is stolen and you can't find your physical authenticator, without that password, it can be a bit of a nightmare to have the token removed from the account.
  6. I'm new to the forums here and plan on RP'ing. It is nice to see there is a site where those who wish to RP in Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn (and the previous v1.xx) have to get together and talk outside of game. The only negative I have seen in my weeks shadowing the site (was very shy about signing up and posting) is this whole Server vs Server discussion. As the above poster mentioned this really is starting to look a bit like random youtube discussion which goes no where. It is a bit upsetting to see such a silly topic dividing people; at least it is coming across as a community divided. I've done plenty of RP'ing in video games and MMOs in my time and I know how frustrating it can be when people interfere just to be jerks, or you get trolled. Even on dedicated RP servers it happens. While it is nice to have a community focused in one spot, there is nothing wrong with a community spreading out especially at the rebirth of a game. The BASE subscription model allows you to create characters on up to 8 servers. Create a character on Balmung, Gilgamesh, etc. We should be working together and helping one another out, not debating which server or why one is better than the other. So please, lets just work together here. People want to go here, others want to go there. Okay... the end? Embrace the feelings of others and the fact this is a rebirth of the game. Both communities can share ideas and be just as strong together.
