  1. Interview and recruit for Mysterium, of course! Other than that, try to get attuned to the Aetherytes in all three cities so I can more freely move around. Since P4 is largely a stress test, I'm okay with considering it a free part of early access. Yeah I think I am going to do the same and just to try and attune to all 3 major cities early. That way I can move around with just a bit of gil pre-level 15 at launch in case anything calls for it. Plus I get to play "can I run faster than the level 30+ mob "
  2. Welcome to the community!! :bouncy:
  3. 1. What do you think is a main character? Non-RP: The character which you spend the most time on, and often is the first to experience new content / grind on to get top tier stuff RP: The Character which you dedicate the most time to playing and immersing yourself as, and often ends up being the one involved in most events 2. What do you think makes a character an alternate character? Non-RP: You do not like the class that much... or they are something as simple as extra storage space (bank alt) RP: They are playing a secondary role in your storyline, or serve as a break away from your main character (changing up your RP role) 3. Do people have a responsibility to make certain "mains pair with mains" if you sense an interesting relationship (friends/rivals/lovers/enemies/long-lost relatives) forming or is it okay that someone's just not going to be around at random or for long periods of time? Non-RP: No RP: Maybe... to a point but if you immerse yourself in RP and the world and someone is almost never around one might not consider them a friend anyhow (casual friend perhaps or acquaintance). However it is understandable that people can't always be around one another in a "video game" / "virtual" world and thus life moves on, but perhaps there should be a small attempt to stay in contact (even if simple letters via mail, or if you share a linkshell.. say hello!!) 4. Have you ever discovered that your main was paired off in one of those situations with someone's alt? They just didn't play them at all or played other characters? Did it stall out your story? What did you do? Non-RP: N/A RP: Never. Even if my main bumped into an Alt, if said Alt was RP'ing then so be it. You work with it, in my book. If said person decided to never be on that alt again or delete them, well try to figure out a way to make all that make sense or at worse restructure the story. 5. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who only have one main character? Non-RP: They enjoy mastering a single class/role to perfection RP:  I... only have one main character. NOoOO!!!!! I'm a stereotype!!! Okay seriously, I look at it as a form of dedication / immersion. You are living one life in the game and that life will change and grow with each passing day. 6. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who suffer alt-itis and swap characters often? Non-RP: They enjoy playing / testing out everything and feel as if they are a jack of all trades. (or just love to have a character available for a certain situation) RP: Distracted.... unable to stay focused on a single task or story, or allow a single story to grow 7. Which are you? A single or two main characters? 5 main characters? A bunch of alts? SINGLE main. no-alts (at least in Final Fantasy 14 since you can swap classes/jobs) In other games I often play one main, with 2 or 3 alts for variety in both helping out with content , experiencing new angles of content, and character variety. (it can get boring playing as a single class for months on end) 8. How did you usually break up your time between your main characters? Play on demand? Always on one, demand for the other? One with one group and when they all sign off switch to the other? in other games I would just see what's going on. Depending on the day and what was going on in the RP community it might suit another character better; also if I wasn't feeling very RP-ish I would just play the class I wanted.
  4. Very interesting. It could actually lead to quite a few different scenarios and who knows what that mind probe technology could of done. I am not too deeply versed in the 1.0 lore but I am sure what your back-story proposes is quite possible as Garlean surely took prisoners of war during the conflict.
  5. Yeah pretend they are like PSN cards. However instead of putting them into the PSN store you will probably end up going into your Square Enix Account page and inputting the code on the card. It will then add game time to your account like +30 or +60 days.
  6. At first I was a little upset seeing how Phase 4 is so far off, but good things are worth waiting for. A lot of interesting stuff came out in this Live letter; the Veteran rewards look great and have a lot of use to them. Loving the housing concept art and various artwork they showed off. I'm okay with that level 20 cap since it avoids people blowing through the content on a beta weekend; I don't even plan to level much at all. Mostly just test settings and look for bugs since I am working on 2 of those 3 days. Loving the concept of housing! Might not be something I immediately work on but it is just another thing to do in the game which is great for RP and immersion. I like the idea that people in a Free Company get some bonuses, it probably works by allowing the Free Company to unlock perks as they level up (rank up etc). Only issue now is find a nice Free Company and Link Shell to call home. So what do you all plan to do during Beta? Consider it official and start up actual characters and begin to let your story unfold; Or just keep it simple and test the game and specifics such as the PvP system?
  7. :dazed: *just finished listening to all 104 songs... 1 second of each* My brain hurts.... :dazed:
  8. Very awesome name!! Welcome to the forums.
  9. Yeah during the Beta I decided to make the runs to test it out. It took me something like 15-20 mins to go from Gridania to Ul'dah. I was surprised how easy it was; There were plenty of teleport spots as well in case you die (unlock them as you go). The only snag I ran into was I couldn't take the Ferry to Limsa Lominsa . Lots of super high level mobs on the way too. I think I saw a level 40 wandering around at some point. I am very tempted to do the run again, but on the other hand it totally breaks immersion to do such a thing.
  10. Hello and welcome! on the last name. I think it is fine.
  11. I'm sorry that was definitely my mistake. I got the two different elements crossed; Edited the post to remove the bad information so not to confuse anyone
  12. :dazed: What's going on here?!?! :dazed:
  13. edit: corrected information Yep, it works the following way. Upon creation of a character you will be "locked" into a role that you pick. This role is your first class and can not be changed until you unlock the armory system at level 10 on your first class. There is a level 15 quest which allows you to travel between the 3 major cities(unless you really want to hoof it). Once you can do this you can go to any "guild" and learn their class. While you can still level it to 50, at this point your next set of class quests is about converting said class into a "job". For a Bard.. I plan on leveling my archer to 30. Once that happens I need to learn Conjurer and hit level 15. Now I can return to the archer guild and receive a quest to learn BARD. As a Bard I am basically a specialized version of my base class (archer). As I level up bard, as does archer. A level 40 archer = lv 40 bard. I quest as a bard and hit lv 41... my Archer is now lv 41. ^^ dated video but it might help explain Classes and Jobs
  14. I'm so confused by all of this. Balmung and Gilgamesh communities are equal in my book. from an RP / Lore perspective it makes sense as well if you think about it. You have those which fall into the old shifted 5 years into the future (ARR) and those which are brand new as the era of Adventurers starts to thrive... Balmung , Gilgamesh. Based on Lore, new toons should role on Balmung to stick with the lore... but at the same time said concept only is good for about 2-3months and you'll have 50's everywhere. In short... Both servers are fine. Work as a community here people. You can roll on "both" servers. The thing is we all have a difference of opinion. What should be going on is we all respect one another's opinions and move on. Instead we're squabbling over it in spots and it is rather embarrassing. Balmung is Legacy. Established community with established LinkShells , Free Companies, etc. It is open to all to join and I am quite certain the Balmung community would love to see new players. However I see lots of new players branding Legacy servers as unfair advantages and branding Legacy players. On the flipside you have Gilgamesh... a new server with fresh opportunities. Who knows how it will turn out but people will be able to establish their own thing on the server. New linkshells, new friends etc.. Some people have legit concerns about Legacy servers and might not want to give it the 2-4 months needed to catch up to everyone else. My issue with all this is why people have this "all or nothing" attitude. Why is it.. Balmung OR Gilgamesh. As many have pointed out, including myself, you can make characters on up to 8 servers. Ontop of that, so what people want to go to A instead of B. It isn't like they have said "I'm going to A and never showing my face here ever again?" Be a community. Think of it as a guild that has so many members it has to make two guilds. The guild fills up...The guild leader often takes the 2nd in command and has them make their own guild and you end up with two guilds. People join one or the other... You share the same webpage, same info, but you have two separate banks, two separate raid rotation groups etc. Be a community... we are all a team here. Now everyone smile and watch the cute baby-bunny!!
  15. The beauty of this system that FF14 brings to the table is the ability of choice. With FF14 you can change your class to be whatever you want; But, to me it sounds like you might get along best with a Lancer (Dragoon) or an Arcanist (Summoner) Both specialize in doing damage, and both avoid having to take a secondary "healing/support" route in order to learn the respective Jobs. I tested the game with a THM and LNC during Beta and even did a few minutes of archer. All the classes do feel rather unique with their own set of mechanics.. Don't feel as if you have to lock yourself into something. If anything come time for Phase 4 perhaps spend some time making random characters and test out the first few levels of each starting class; find the one that feels the most "you" .... What I always do when creating a character is try to imagine the world that I am going to be putting them in. Do I feel a male or female character suits this world better for me? Once I get a clear image of the character I want in terms of looks and feel, I begin to look for inspiration for a story be it from other games (role models), or through music to help envision a past. Fiona's Theme Song Sometimes it might be good to just take a step back and just close your eyes and think .... what am I? ... Good Theme for a Dragoon? Good Theme for a Summoner? edit cool it makes like an embedded youtube vid. Very awesome!!!
  16. I used to do this all the time in WoW and LoTRO. I'd take down the Lich King and go HAHHA WE DEFEATED THE LICH KING ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!.... until 7 days from now when our dungeon timer resets and he magically is alive again!! Friend responds: We must of triggered a time warp!!! NOoooO Anyhow I see it as the classes we get ad adventurers are just that.. classes. We are always going to be our class (the main class levels with our job). While we are given the gift to become something like a Dragoon or Paladin we are never a "true" version of that. We simply embody the spirit of which makes up said job. Why I can be a bard, then swap to a polearm and dragoon gem and suddenly I am a dragon. I've basically embodied the spirit of a dragoon. Will one day a "true" job holder come along, surely! But until that time we are merely channeling the spirit of adventures of old. Then again I could have this all wrong...
  17. 27th is launch. Early access is unknown at this time. I believe 1.0 characters will be allowed to get remade at launch or soon after when additional character creation options are put in , as well as the ability to change the look of an existing character
  18. Welcome to the community! Looking forward to meeting you in game, on the forums and hopefully getting to see some of the awesome artwork!
  19. Welcome to the community!!! Don't worry, you'll get your RP legs in no time and I hope you enjoy!
  20. Yeah I still have my CE box. Shame what NCsoft did to Richard Garriott and the team. It annoys me even more they kept funneling game funds from subscribers to AION's dev team rather than actually pay people for working on Tabula Rasa.
  21. I am actually a fan of smaller population servers especially since it is now standard (and is included in FF14 2.0) cross-server queuing. Just because your server has a smaller population doesn't make the queue times go through the roof. I've always found servers that are crowded, even over-crowded to be a mess on many levels. Questing turns into a messy "tag the mob first" kind of thing where you're rushing to get a fresh spawn mob because 10 other people are grinding that spot; Economies are often blown out of proportion and towns are super over-crowded. The only thing I see Gilgamesh has against it (in my book) is that right now based on polls it is basically going to be Full or near full right out of the gate + is bringing a pretty strong "hardcore" group with it that might spark elitism. On the flip side, Balmung might have a smaller than average population, and thus the server might sometimes feel a bit barren in spots... But here's the catch... It doesn't matter who is going where. In the end we will all end up in a Free Company that matches out needs, and be a part of 1 or many linkshells which meet our needs. So even if 4chan and reddit bring mass trolls with them to gilgamesh just avoid their linkshell I'm not sure how Linkshells worked in 1.0 or 2.0 (have not joined one yet) but perhaps there could be some kind of master linkshell that RP'ers on Gilgamesh and Balmung could use. In LoTRO my server had a special channel they advertised on the main forums for people to join and communicate. I'd disable general chat and use this channel instead and you end up in this really nice community of say 100-150 people you talk to on a daily basis. It would be nice to see a linkshell like that, all RP'ers can join it and from there you trickle down into your own linkshells and free companies. Basically... we create our own General Chat. As for which server to call home.... call them both home. Pros and Cons to both, but each server has one thing in common; People in which you can share stories and adventures with and hopefully make some in-game friendships with.
  22. While I am for the naming convention, at the same time you should also do what you like most. If you like how your character's name sounds and it fits with what you have then keep it by all means. You can always write in some lore as to why your Miqo'te is different than the others; adoption being a very easy one to pull off. My character I went partially with the Midlander naming system, Fiona is a very Celtic name. Swift is short for Swiftarrow (The last name I used in Lord of the Rings online) since her family has been experts with Bows / Archery Champions. Hyur is rather easy to work with though. Go with what you like, I mean you have to like your character before anything else. Could be she is adopted, or maybe changed her name / identity to create a more cultured appearance. You could also go with Miqo'te that is a Keeper of the Moon and since that is a Matriarchal society, she could of just been like "I like this name!" :cactuar:
  23. Don't feel bad. Your naga still works. I know plenty of people who's Naga outright failed. I would love for an August 9th start as that random leaked August 17th seems fairly late in the game for a fast phase 4 beta. We might see something in the middle, like an August 10th to 13th then 17th to 20th Early access on the 24th. I'm actually quite fearful of how the servers will handle the load of people come August 27th. There has not been any real stress test on the servers yet.
  24. *proud epic pose. Points an arrow to the sky, the metal glimmering as it catches the sun* Beta Phase!! *pauses at all the glares* Whaaa.a..... that counts... right? *dodges the rotten fruit and vegetables*
