The game isnt meant for servers to have thousands of people on them. People have to stop thinking in WoW terms. WoW was a fluke in popularity. Not every MMO that comes out has to rival it...because they won't. They can't be planned to have the success WoW had...because not even Blizzard expected what happened to their game.

Every MMO does this though, sad as it is, because you can never have a "complete" MMO ready to ship. There are always issues, always bugs, always balancing problems or quest problems that require a lot of play time to uncover/fix and money. Most publishes push a MMO out because they get impatient and want a return on their investment, especially if a game is in development for awhile. The good thing though is that MMOs can adapt and change with time, look at Age of Conan.

Primary and Secondary tools both have different potential outcomes for your synth. Some synths will give you a bonus to how many you make if you use a secondary tool or primary, usually it makes sense as well. Making lumber with a saw can HQ bonus lumber, since a saw is obvious for doing something like that. They also factor into when making an item if you HQ+1/+2/+3 it. I use my secondary tool when it seems obvious I would use it, awl for making boots as leatherworker, saw for making lumber and masks, etc etc.

This post is 100% fact and I agree. There's no ifs, ands or buts. Always wait to tip the crafter before they try with your mats or even theirs incase of failure. Like has been said, if they are your mats and an HQ happens and the crafter refuses to give you the item, that is in fact a ToS violation. If the item HQs and they have a NQ on their person and give you that instead, and you had no agreement before hand, well your own fault in that regard. If its the crafters mats and they HQ, that's now the crafters item and they can do what they want with it. If its the crafts mats and they fail, well you should still be tipping them because they just lost a lot of shit trying to do something for you. I know when I repair peoples weapons sometimes I fail, and I expect to be compensated for my fail if using my own materials.

Grouping Post 20 is the only way to get some decent SP gain. This game gives a certain % bonus to your SP gain the more people in a group, so you have to pace that with how fast you can kill a mob because killing a mob too fast results in less SP gain for everyone. It's the same as FFXI, its all about knowing what monsters will reward your group with challenge and SP gain. Duoing/trioing crabs in Limsa can last you 15-20 and most high level players right now got there only via grouping. Make sure your tank knows not to hit his taunt at the start of the fight, because the mob will not have a hate table, everyone needs to take part in an action while the mob is engaged, then taunt will generate a ton of threat.

If you're rank 10 and in Grid, head to Emerald Moss and go a bit north of there to the large circle patches you see on your map. Most are covered in marmots and a few bees, roselings. You can level up on those for a while then move onto the monkeys nearby at 13-14. Or you can do puk hatchlings around 12 around Limsa and dodos around Limsa will con green to yellow at 14-15.

FFXIV reusing textures on their maps! Alert the Internet!
Satrina replied to Satrina's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I did all that and more. I realized the forest near me is FULL of copy-pasted trees so I set a giant fire in the forest to burn them all down. Also I noticed a few clouds in the sky looked very similar, im trying to figure out a way to darken the sky completely! -

Actually in the context of Final Fantasy MMO they do serve a purpose, that of communicating with people who do not speak your language. I havnt tried out the chat much to see if we have the auto translate stuff from FFXI, i'm guessing we do, but emotes are another way to convey to people what is going on. Most games with player housing also allow you to customize the look of it with items gathered or created by the player. This in turn gives another carrot on the stick to keep people playing and serves a gameplay purpose of sorts.

I'm also not sure, as I have not personally coded for an MMORPG, but I do know that jumping lead to a whole host of problems in WoW. Granted a lot were pvp but they were easily adapted for pve as well. Being able to jump onto ledges and glitch bosses to get "Watch him die" achievement. Jumping any sort of stun in pvp completely negated the stun, locked the person in animation and let you run pretty far away. Wall climbing was another major issue they cracked down on...sadly...as I loved to wall climb into Hyjal. It could be that a lot of the rocks, and other things are actually just painted on and do not actually have collision detection and you would just pass through them into oblivion (this happened a lot to me in WoW). This can be solved with creating invisible walls everywhere, but that also can result in clipping issues if a person is hugging a wall to avoid aggro. I'm not sure what the seismic shock animation looks like, do you actually jump or is it a flip of some sort? They could have just been lazy and not wanted to code a jump animation. They did use a lot of motion capture for the game, but perhaps asians just don't got no ups? Edit:Nifty thing I found when looking for how high an average person can jump: http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/VerticalJump.html

US Federal Appeals: "No 1st Sale Doctrine for Software"

Capitalism is a great system, especially when you just let companies begin to monopolize areas because they give you kickbacks and fund your campaigns! :cheer: I'm sure Gamestop will strike a profitable deal with developers where they give them a %cut, and in turn developers will up the price of games by 10$ or so...or just continue to make shit games with a whole 5hrs of gameplay, sell it for 63$ and then go "Well it HAS multiplayer!" -
That's fine and all, but realism in a fantasy MMO setting doesn't work sometimes. Games, movies and books require us to put aside what we know is fact about the real world and suspend our belief. Perhaps the gravity is 20x greater in Eorzea, perhaps the armor is heavier then real armor, perhaps the fictional races are not built for jumping, perhaps our characters all have lame knees or tore a ligament in track&field. :study: There are thousands of reasons you could even make up for why your character can not jump RPwise, and you don't need to be able to jump to RP effectively. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

US Federal Appeals: "No 1st Sale Doctrine for Software"

Man this is bad news for Gamestop. Which I honestly don't feel sorry for, as they make a huge profit off the work of the game developers. Since developers only see the cash from the first sale and that's it, there's nothing like the movie industry and theater sales --> DVD sales. If they do stop Gamestop from reselling games, I expect the prices to drop on games or i'll be pissed. -
Also keep in mind, from what I can remember, no Final Fantasy game has had jumping in it. Talking free form jumping, not jumping at designated spots in the world. The reason this is not in the game would probably be due to potential problems, such as 4-6 ppl arriving at a jump spot at the same time and needing to wait in line as each person jumps across. I believe collision detection is on for characters, cant remember from beta, but that would create an issue after the jump occurred. I just see no real benefit to jumping in an MMO as it's never implemented to add an additional layer of challenge and is just cosmetic.

Don't worry about smug overtone, I come off as an asshole all the time But about your points: Scaling cliffs and cliff diving do not equate to live combat. While I know live combat nowadays requires a lot of movement and mobility, the reason we can do that is due to the body armor allowing flexibility. Think how much effort it would take to jump in chainmail or plate, also even jumping down a 2-3ft ledge to the ground might blow out your ankles and knees, the human body is not made for walking upright and has quite a few flaws in that regard. Jumping would alleviate a lot of the pain of having to travel around certain spots, but there's a reason behind it too. If FFXI had had jumping, you could have easily just jumped into Byakko's spawn location without having to go through the building and watch as retards died due to no sneak oils. 70pds might not seem like a lot because it's pretty easy to lift that...but try to imagine it resting on your shoulders, head and weighing you down WHILE you engage in combat and fatigue. Also try picking up 70 pds and jumping 4ft down a ledge, actually don't because you'd blow out something.

There most likely will be allot more quests come Retail, as SE most likely don't lets us see everything, the Gate of Ishgard isn't even open yet, and there seem to be other things either locked or not there yet Correct, SE has said a few times that what we have seen in beta only accounts for a small % of the total game upon launch. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen.

Just to harp on these points: *Ahem* 1- Keybinding seems to be a possibility now with the menu option. The keys arnt that horrible really right now but I love to keybind as well 2-That's a computer issue not the game, the game is meant for very high end systems right now, just like FFXI was. WoW is the polar opposite and can be played on your grandmothers Win95 Dell. 3-This is annoying, luckily you can easily work around it by using the torrents 4-Mouse doesn't make it unplayable, you don't really even need the mouse, and I have had no issue with it so far. If anything there will more then likely be a hardware mouse that fans create 5-Nothing new here, most if not all companies do not have a server that can work that amount of traffic all at once. There were 10's of thousands of people trying to burst through at once, the site WILL go down. 6-85% of all negative press is a result of misinformation. The other 15% is legit and we have been told is being worked on in some parts. No MMO has ever launched at 100% efficiency. Even WoW launched as a shitpile. 7-Their track record of them fixing some major issues with FFXI? A lot of the early complaints when RoZ was the only expansion were tweaked eventually. It did take a long time but SE seems to have wised up on this and understand that unhappy players will leave and most likely not come back. Does that mean the game should cater 100% to your likes? No, that's ignorant. They would have to go back and rescale a lot of the environment currently so that you could still not bypass if you jumped. Why is jumping such a big deal? It's never put ANYTHING into the game other then 1 or 2 jumping puzzles in a dungeon that screw over people who might lag "Hi Draupnirs Cave!". There's no reason you HAVE to jump...ever. How often are you jumping around in real life? Ever tried doing that in full body armor or a robe? Which raises another issue, clothing would have to be tweaked so it didn't clip while doing a jump animation or it would just look sloppy. I Name me 1 reason jumping should be a standard in MMOs. Coming from WoW 99% of the time I used the jump key it was out of boredom and bouncing around.

FFXIV is a step in a different direction then most MMOs of recent, which were all trying to be WoW clones or WoW killers. There are issues here with FFXIV, but none so major as to make me cancel my preorder or not want to play. The software mouse is annoying, but I have adapted to the WASD IJKL method of movement/camera pretty well, just like I did with the old FFXI control scheme. UI lag seems to be down a little but still there, something they are working on and in no way game breaking at all. For the most part, people being so vocal and adamant about the game being bad either just don't want it to succeed because it has the Final Fantasy name to it (It's amazing how many people just hate Final Fantasy games) or they wanted some masterpiece for launch, crafted from pure gold and diamonds, that would shock their eyes into burnt out orbs from the pure win they would witness when loading into the game. The game is good, it has its bugs but so did every other MMO in history for launch. In no way shape or form is it akin to people saying it should still be in alpha. Also the surplus system is a fine system when people finally understand exactly how it works, and stop crying about not being able to WoWgrind to max level in a week.
