Wow also has an enormously larger population than FFXIV, so yes, it has the bodies to accommodate two major RP servers. Plenty of them. FFXIV doesn't get even close, so it's much more convenient to keep the vast majority of the RP population focused in one place. I wouldn't be so sure that, at least on Balmung, RPers (including heavy and light) are a minority. And I certainly don't agree that SE seems to do more than most in being RP-friendly. They never did the most basic of the RP-friendly things, which is giving us a RP server. Personally, I won't contribute to the fragmentation of the RP community, like I didn't when people pushed the split between Balmung and Gilgamesh (which crashed and bushed for obvious reasons). If others want to leave, that's their prerogative, but I have the feeling that they're gonna regret it on the long run.

I'm certainly going to stay on Balmung, as I don't think fragmenting the RP community is a good idea. As a matter of fact, SE should probably simply recognize Balmung as an official RP server, and offer incentives to non-roleplayers to move.

I know, it may sound a little crazy, but hear me out. I feel that if Square Enix officially labeled Balmung as an RP server, it could actually make it less desirable for non-roleplayers, causing a rather sharp drop in population, and leaving it open for other RPers to join. Oh I didn't say it was hard to understand. As a matter of fact I understood it perfectly the first time. I said (not in so many words) that it's silly and an entirely invalid argument. "others do it so we must do it as well" isn't an argument. It's simple as that. No one here or anywhere else on the forum (to my knowledge) has gone anywhere beyond what we see and read every day from NPCs in the game. There's no need to pander to oversensitiveness from people that seem to have no problem with exactly the same things in the game

If you need threads with this kind of themes labeled, you may want to ask Square Enix to label quests and zones where NPCs talk, because exactly the same themes are included in the text of the game. Please, do get a grip

Personally, I roleplay unique things as something different. I have Curtana and the Holy shield, but in roleplay they have a completely different name and lore. Just because it looks like Curtana it doesn't need to be Curtana, and the same can go for your book. It's also much easier for you to call it another name and make up your own lore about it

RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Adaptable. I like both heavily involved stories and lighter, conversational RP. I tend to be IC all the time in /say, while i enjoy OOC conversation in other channels. I enjoy walk-up RP as much as tells before approaching, both ways are open. Views on RP combat and injuries: No problem with them as long as it's agreed upon. I normally prefer freeform fighting, but I'm open to discussion on it. Abriael gets injured a LOT, so there's absolutely nothing against that. Death and maiming should be discussed beforehand, but serious injuries are perfectly ok. Views on IC romance: Absolutely anything and everything is possible in this field, but be warned, Abriael is a very, very hard nut to crack on the romantic side, due to his personal background. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Abriael has no family left. Any kind of other non-romantic RP is ok of course. Due to events of the past he's sterile, so no offspring are possible. If you're looking for a father for your kids, I'm afraid I'll have to pass Views on lore: I prefer to stick to the lore whenever possible, but I have no qualm in using my imagination where the lore does not cover. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say is always IC, rest is always OOC unless necessary (IE: tells or Party as used for personal linkshells or for RP that is not supposed to be heard by others. I won't bitch at you if you address me OOCly. I like to chat III. I just noticed that I've been lurking for quite a while, but I never really introduced myself. So hello everyone. I'm on Balmung (I've actually been around since alpha 1.0, but I was on Mysidia/Gungnir before), my character is Abriael Rosen (no alts exist to this moment, and they probably never will, to be perfectly honest I'm just not good at roleplaying anyone else lol), and you can find his profile here (warning, it's a bit long winded). So... there's that I'm always open to RP in game, and I like both deep and involved storylines and quick casual RP, so if you see me around and want to bump into me or spill coffee on my armor...

Ultimately splitting the RP community is a very bad idea. I suggest to roll on Balmung. "oh my god! People are gonna have an headstart!" Yeah, so? There will always be people ahead of you in the curve, headstart or not. It's the nature of MMORPGs. Having veteran players in the same server just means that you'll have more people able to help if you're in trouble and there's some content you can't overcome. Ultimately, if one really wants to build a RP community, levels and competion should really be the last things he worries about. You don't roleplay with levels. The rest is simply a matter of ego, and ego doesn't really go hand in hand with good roleplay.
