I actually haven't really had an issue with Durpy randoms, just the 30-65 min. wait time that que as a DPS guarantees you. I think i've had one or two tank/healer associated issues with randoms, but aside from that it's all good groups. (and by problems I mean tank thinks their god or healer isn't paying attention/DCs) Everyone should be aware of the time they'll spend in the queue as a dps is what I'm saying cause of other games. The majority of the players playing are dps and out populate the ones playing tank/healers afterall. this goes especially for the primal trial fights.. No one is gonna do it again once they cleared it cause SE decided not to give regular fights any rewards.. Which is bad of course cause its a storyline quest. It is to be expected which is where community kicks in you know? Like RPC.. Great community, wouldn't be hard asking for help on here right? I haven't had much issues with derpies either.. I deal with random assholes I get queued with on AK and Ifrit HM so much that I refuse to deal with randoms end-game now.. 2 weeks into the game and we have elitist pricks ruining people's fun and putting down tanks/healers learning.

Does Balmung creation occasionally open, or..?
Aleister replied to Verranicus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I feel like there are way more cat people.. I was expecting a overwhelming amount of lalafels.. I barely see them and I see more cats then anything.. That is from what I have seen BUT play what race you wanna play! That is what it is about, fun. -
Disagree. From a healing perspective, if I Repose a mob in a group, the rest immediately aggro on me. Even if I get to the tank in time, 9 times out of 10, he won't be able to pull them off me fast enough to keep me from dying. The best thing for me, as a healer, to do is to simply run to the other side of the tank and pray. Even if I hit Shroud of Saints, if I'm the only person with threat on those adds (and I will be if I'm healing the tank, which I will almost certainly be doing since we're dealing with another pack), it won't matter. They'll still come straight for me. And because Regen is a primary mana-saving healing tool, there's an extremely high probability that I'll get threat before anyone else no matter what I do - because I can't click the HoT off another player. They have to do that themselves, and by the time they do (assuming they even think to do so), it's too late. So honestly, as a WHM, there's not a hell of a lot I can do to control anything in this situation, especially if the tank is already being beaten on (since I can't really stop for 3 seconds to try to get a Repose off that one of the DPS or the tank is going to break almost immediately) and risk the tank dropping. The bulk of the blame is just basically situational awareness. If you see a patrol approaching, the best thing to do would be to back away. But the tanking game being as it is, it's hard to watch chat, the area around you, and do your job, so I can't completely blame the tank. Wipes happen. I agree with her on this... Also.. Not trying to sound mean or anything but why is there a thread for this? :l Dps queues have always been like this in any mmo with a 'duty finder'. Just gotta befriend a tank or healer and ask them/join them when they do stuff.. Saves the hassle with dealing with annoying derpy randoms. Edit: Also I'm a Warrior tank and if you need a queue for any dungeon 1-50 (Except AK.. I tend only to do that annoying place with people I know a bit, sorry.) Hit me up and if I'm not busy or anything I most likely will not decline your request for help. I <3 the Titan fight btw.. Just saiyan.

Balmung's Finest fits the group, I just thought this would be good for legacy players or players who bum rushed it to 50 but like Rhylund said in time (I give it a month) players will be 50 and which would render the linkshell semi useless.. As there are already a lot of dungeon finding LS with people catching up to 50 at a good pace.
-
Great guide. I personally had no idea crafting would be difficult.. Trying to get my blacksmithing up to 50 and its dreadful.. Requires so much of the other gathering classes and what not.
-
I'm starting to slowly float onto that boat you're on.. I keep trying to remain positive and believe SE will fix it.. but a problem always comes up after they 'fix' something it seems.

I don't think that's the case. I mean the thing with the duty finder is that it's all about proportions. If all the tanks and healers were in the other duty finder, sure, that would cause problems. But if you have 100 people queued up for a dungeon and 85% of them are dps, it won't be any worse than if you have 1000 people queued up and 85% of them are dps. Actually... someone with math... would it actually be better? Anyway, I don't think it's anything to worry about. On the contrary, I think the fact that we're more likely to run across people from our own server is kind of cool. I guess I should clarify. There are two potential situations. One is that when you queue, the DF is trying to find someone, anyone, who wants to do what you want to do. The second is that the DF actually puts you in a long line of people trying to do the same thing. If option 1 was actually what was happening, then yes, the smaller group would be frustrating. But it's not, as shown by a few pieces of evidence: a) Tanks and healers typically get insta-queues. That wouldn't be happening in option 1. It shows that the queue is actually a line of mostly dps waiting for a tank or healer or both. b) When I did Ifrit, I stayed in that cavern and there were a TON of people standing around waiting. I could watch them and a few would disappear one after another until it was my turn. It wasn't that no one wanted to fight Ifrit - it was simply a matter of waiting my turn. So, yeah. More or less people isn't going to hurt or help queue times at this point. The only thing that will affect it is the proportion of tanks and healers vs. dps. Exactly this. Some mmorpgs do this and it works just fine. one that I'm aware of doing this is WoW, they split the dungeons/pvp instances by 'battlegroups' for these reasons and to probably put less stress on their servers like SE is currently doing.

Character creation now open on Balmung and Gilgamesh!
Aleister replied to The_Wanderer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yuuup.. I don't mind that really as I made a character already.. Just really wanted to try a black mage or bard out.. Oh well as long as someone who didn't get to even play yet got their character up I'm okay with that for now. -
Getting 3102s also.. GREAT JOB SE. Another problem we are dealing with.

Yes I'm aware but I still would think having linkshells for say 1-49 (progression) and one for 50s (post-game) would be more nicer.. like I mentioned above I am in one but mainly just to be there assist people who need help. I've tried a few LS with the purpose of finding groups to get post dungeons run and no luck either so far because there was not enough 50s or because my text was blown off the screen by the people just chatting/looking for progression dungeons. Now yes it can be argued and I do agree the more the worse it might get to find people but it is just an idea and if no one seems to like it I won't squish a LS into a realm with already a bunch of LS dedicated to dungeon finding. I just wanted to see if there was one or people would like the idea of having on solely dedicated LS post-game dungeons, no biggy. No problem at all Varryn.

Oh man Dubs.. You have explained it perfectly with that video lmfaaaao.

Welcome Beans! I hopefully wish you get to roam about in the game tomorrow after this maintance! I look forward to running into you ICly!

This is for the Balmung server. I'm just curious if there is a Linkshell dedicated towards post-game dungeons? I've seen a thread or two here about linkshell made for dungeon finding but seems to be for all levels which is nice but I feel can be chaotic. Not trying to hate on these linkshells I just feel it'd be better to have it a little bit more clean.. Progression and post game LS? I actually still remain in one mainly to help players out if they are down on their luck and do not mind a high level assisting them. If there isn't one.. perhaps I could make one if people like the idea? Now I'm aware the game is still new and people are still leveling but it is a legacy realm after all.. As well as due to the issues we are dealing with those that got on may have increased the speed of their usual leveling. I think it'd be a nice idea.. From what I've witnessed so far post-game duty finder wise.. A LOT of people have been very rude and harsh.

This. I'm very much the same case. THOUGH I do tend to lean towards the PvE gameplay a tad more then the RP side but I get enough of both. I actually just recently finished the storyline of the game and just kinda goofing around post-game with crafting and what not because I haven't actually found any RP.. Well that is a lie I have found at least 3? But none of which I could jump in. We'll see after this maintance if I can get some RP and stop being a PvE addict for the time being. (Yeah.. I kinda blazed my ass from Early Access till now focusing on PvE cause of some reasons pointed out like the in-game issues and login though I did manage to collect storyline info and some important info from side quests.. If I forget I'll be taking my sweet time with my second character once he is made.) Really now? I must be missing out.. I have not seen a drop of RP in the higher level areas.

The Benifits of Sword vs. Spell, and Multiple Characters
Aleister replied to LilMomoshi's topic in RP Discussion
I'm a altoholic. Yes the one character can be all is great but I don't like it because I prefer having character focusing on a certain job and crafts.. That's me. I generally play a tank or healer hybrid in a mmo. (Like WoW, I'd be a healadin.) Though for FFXIV I think I will not be touching the healing classes (Unless we get a Red Mage in the future!) I think I'll swap between a meat shield and a glass cannon this game.. We'll see.. I may just end up having 5 toons or something not only to get a taste for the class/jobs but as well as to play a different character RP wise, sometimes you get bored with one character? You never know.. I try to have at least max 3 characters I RP with.. No more or else I'm not gonna get known at all. I prefer melee over casters anyday in mmos.. cause the weapons are more appealing THOUGH that may change with the blackmage in this game. Aleister The Grey (See what I did there?) Will be a Warrior disguising himself as a travelling blacksmith. He knows no magic and has no care in learning any of it. His heart lies in the honor of combat(Mainly the life style of a warrior) His hobby.. is of course blacksmithing. No idea what other classes or race combo I'll use for RP -
Yeah, this is definitely one of the worst launches I've ever experienced. I mean, sure, we don't have an abundance of bugs, and once you log in the game generally works, but how many paying customers have been completely unable to use the product they paid for since launch?" That reflects really poorly on Square Enix as a company. The free 7 days extra will hopefully mitigate some of that, but they'll never really live this down (just like Blizzard never really lived down WoW's launch or Funcom never really lived down Anarchy Online's launch). People will continue to play, but some will just outright quit instead of wait for things to get better, and there are always those players who never forget. The worst part is how players are encouraged to essentially be assholes and stay logged in just so they can avoid the pain of being locked out of the game. The last two days I just said "fuck it" and joined that crowd in staying logged in overnight just so I could avoid playing with Error 1017 ever again. Just gotta wake up at a certain time and log in and get no problems. I generally log in between 7-9AM EST and work I spend 5-11 minutes trying to get in. I will not lie.. I do go back to bed and nap some more or do some things for a FEW hours.. being one of those pricks.. But otherwise I'm online being active and log off when I'm going to bed.. Which helps gives someone else a spot. Its really knowing the best time to login that gets you in without any real problems.

Technically, devices like are against the rules, but if you shut it off right when you log in, which you should since it can cause problems just spamming it in-game, they can not accuse you of anything. This is the same type of software people use for auto-clicking and if you took the time you could make bots with it if you wanted. If you are only using it to log in, GM's have no way of knowing you are using it since you are not actually in-game, and they usually only detect this sort of thing through reports, most bots will never get detected unless people report them, meaning if you aren't doing anything there is nothing to report, so 99% sure you'll never get caught. Besides, it is SE's fault that we have to resort to these methods, if they seriously ban someone for this that is pathetic, considering it is their own fault. I agree completely buuut you know how companies are in mmos. O_<
-
Now this is a feeling so please don't say I'm wrong or anything I don't mind being corrected.. But I feel like this autokey thing is against the agreement somewhere.. But that is a feeling and I could be wrong but I'd rather stick to manually attempting to login.. This is just mehish to me. Its a great device for people who don't want sore arms I agree with that.

Any consideration for a Japanese RP server?
Aleister replied to binaryravenx's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Perhaps but I do recall somewhere that supposedly that today the JP were gonna be toyed with first.. So that might have been it? -shrug- I'm really hoping the problems are fixed so people can come in. -
Is it just me or does anyone else think that.. Locking character creation on launch day.. Is perhaps one of the worst ideas ever? I'm speaking in general, not including all the issues SE is having.
-
They should at the server least give us a waiting queue to get in the realm you know? "Oh hey there! Yeah we're gonna put a limit on logins but.. Here is a line you can wait on for your turn!" Newp lets just not let anyone in
-
Man.. They are pushing my last nerve here.. I bet a lot of us feel like that heh.
-
Thank god. I'm content a bit more especially since I got a email from a ACTUAL person in SE (Though I had requested it kinda.) >__> I got so god damn tired of getting automated emails.. Thats another thing I don't know personally.. Why would you send a automated email? I feel like that is just going to make people even more mad for several reasons. Don't forget about Hiromichi Tanaka and Yoichi Wada, the former Director of Final Fantasy XIV and the CEO of Square-Enix who both technically lost their jobs over something like this. Oooh yeah that is right.. Square Enix doesn't play around like that haha... <_<;

That WOULD be nice and all but I would also settle if he made a post afterward everything is fix fix giving a general apology to us. I think a post would be ok, but going the extra step and making a short apology video and hearing him say it would be better... even if he doesn't bow; but I think he would any cause bowing and apologizing is in-grained in Japanese people. Him just saying sorry at the end of all this is taking a extra step. Remember, he doesn't have to say anything at all. He could just go "Its all fixed now! Enjoy!" and that is that.
