  1. Several months ago, I landed copperbell on my roulette and noticed that the tank still had his little sproutling. Not only that but the poor guy was wearing mostly level 12 gear, with the helmet from Sastasha and right away it became clear that he couldn't hold aggro. He was trying his best and apologizing frequently, but he just didn't have the gear to pull off of a level 60 and two level 30s. Then without saying anything to eachother the DPS and I all stepped back and quietly stopped generating aggro. I could see the THM throwing juuuuust enough fireballs to keep his buff up, the SMN stuck his Egi on passive, and I just doodled around and healed the bare minimum (which is about one spell per pull). Even when we had to talk him through the goop fight, none of us lost our temper, or blasted ahead and tanked the thing for him. We sat back, typed out instructions, and watched while he learned that fight. At the end of the dungeon we pointed out where he could buy some cheap gear and got big thank-yous all around. It was pretty cool to know that we helped teach someone, who might one day help shorten our queue times.
  2. .... or when you painstakingly rewrite all of those locations with Eorzean names just to make yourself feel better about it.
  3. When.... ...... you have a diagram drawn of every scar and tattoo on your character's body... ..... you know the story behind each injury, who gave it too them, and in what year.... ..... you have done extensive research into the after effects of each injury just so that you can emote your character's back being sore or her shoulders being stiff..... ...... each of their fourteen tattoos has a specific meaning, and you can relate each backstory from memory..... ..... the combined markings are so numerous that you can't possibly fit a fraction of them into an emote and no one ever bothers to ask but you keep track anyways..... ....... you know your character's family so well that they become real characters and you level them all to 15 to get them some basic crafting gear.
  4. Don't murder me Marti! I vow to repent and change my ways! (Well at least for everything after Tam-tara?)
  5. When I'm running a lowbe dungeon with a tank that doesn't have a clue and rather than explain to them what flash is, I just spam heal and pull everything off them while giggling.
  6. Klynzahr would approach a stranger if... 1) She accidentally elbowed them in the face/stepped on their foot/dropped beer on their head ect. Accidents abound when you tower over everyone and the furniture is three sizes too small for you. Flustered apologies and introductions follow. 2) She's mistaken you for a friend of hers. "Ah, wonderful ter see ye again me good.... wait yer not Leanne!" For a nearly blind (now fully blind character) the options are nearly limitless. 3) She has misplaced a Eva again. "Pardon me but have ye chanced ter see a lovely elezen lass, with dark hair, wee spectacles, an' a wild look in her eye? She might o' been carryin' a bomb or some very heavy books." 4) You are reading a book. She has always had a habit of pestering people about what they might be reading, no matter how obscure the subject. "The fundamentals of coastal botany? How fascinating. Is it any good?" 5) You are bullying or picking on someone. She may be a coward but she can't stand a bully. Nuff said. ____________________________________________________________ Some ways to approach her might be..... 1) Stand squarely in her path and wait until she runs you over. (No joke) 2) Offer to pay for drinks and/or dinner. She will never turn down free stuff no matter how pointless. 3) Make a loud noise behind her. (Especially gunshots, fireworks, or explosions) It's easy to do and guaranteed to scare the pants off of her. Klynzahr may not react positively at first but I will be nice to you. Promise! 4) Ask her about one of her tattoos or her history in the ring. Her wiki hasn't been up for very long so I'm still waiting hopefully for someone to use this. 5) Talk about Limsa Lominsa, sailing, fishing or fighting oppression. (All topics very close to Klyn's heart) Seriously when it comes to me, it really doesn't matter what you do to but in. If you look vaguely interested, I will RP with you!
  7. As a funny aside, I used to RP a novice palladin in wow, who learned how to cast the spell judgement due to a wardrobe malfunction..... If it happened to Klyn she would probably swear a little bit louder than normal. Then depending on her location, she would either look for a replacement or jump into the nearest body of water and claim she was "Jus' Skinny Dippin'." She really wouldn't be seriously embarrassed, just grumpy about it and if someone made rude comments they might get whacked with a stick.
  8. Funny coincidence, I am also about to embark on a journey with my first blind character. My suggestion for a character who has been blind all their life, would be to make them self sufficient while still giving them realistic limits. For example navigating the forest with echolocation or the aid of a guide animal would be really cool, but shooting a bow by ear would realistically be very difficult........ deer don't sound all that different from a merchant riding by on a chocobo for example. If it were me, I would probably place the emphasis on trapping and fishing for her work, possibly using a bow to finish off prey at close range? It might also be cool to level lancer on her, since the lance could play double duty as a cane and close range weapon. Since my character has lost her sight due to illness, she will probably be quite helpless for the first few months. However one thing that I really enjoy is showing the journey of a character who has their life derailed and needs to begin from scratch. I plan to have her slowly improve and learn new skills, until she's fully independent again. 8-) (Also leveling conjurer gives you access to some really cool canes)
  9. Metagaming.... it's seriously one of my worst fears to be accused of manipulating someone elses carefully planned character or plot. I came from a very relaxed RP atmosphere in Wow, where plots grew organically and no one had qualms about throwing in new developments or twists. Several sidetracked plots and angry guilds later, I am now petrified of introducing anything resembling a plot twist for my characters. I continuously develop them behind the scenes or on the sidelines, because I'm scared to unintentionally screw up someone's story. To be fair, I have had lots of fun RPing a continuous sidekick, but sometimes I wish that I could just bite down on my worries, and bring some of my own plotlines to life. I'm also a chronic free company hopper for many of the same reasons as above. I worry that if I grow too deeply entrenched in a group, I will be unable to salvage my characters if something goes wrong. It really doesn't help with my former problem, because I never allow myself to feel comfortable enough to contribute significantly.
  10. I seem to have missed the boat on this one, but if a spot opens in either the Friday or Sunday events I would jump at it.
  11. Due to much real life I will not be attending. However I'm cheering you guys on!
  12. Dinner was taking place in Iyrnahct's bedroom. Theirs was a family pulled together by improvisation and constant industry. When the grimaces and muttered protests of pain had grown too numerous to justify moving their father to the dinner table, it had seemed only logical for his younger sons to bring the round oak dining table to him. So Danisil had provided fresh cod and shrimp, which Merlannaka had prepared into his famous (and only slightly burnt chowder), and the entire collected family had crammed themselves around the oak table next to Iyrnahct's bedside. The meal proceeded as it had every night for nearly ten years, irregardless of the fact that Iyrnahct was eating little, Klynzahr was eating less, and Old James had eaten nothing at all. Old James had actually dozed off long before dinner began, and Klynzahr gingerly sliding his elbow out of the butter dish, while trying to determine how they would extract the old man from his position without waking him or irreparably damaging the furniture. Nothing lasted long in a house full of half-grown Roegadyn boys, which she considered a likely hypothesis for why they had an ancient, drunk carpenter living permanently with them. Merlannka was talking. He had been talking without pause since the meal began, as had been his custom for the last twelve years. Merlannka had learned to talk late and Klynzahr had stated more than once that they never ought to have taught him at all. "So ye'll come then Klynzahr?" Her head jerked up towards the circle of expectant faces. "Come where Merl?" She queried, instantly suspicious of her younger brother's motives. "Group o'the lads gettin' tergether fer some friendly ax competition." Merlannka restated, without apparent need for breath. He had already consumed three bowls of soup and half a loaf of soda bread, without any reduction in the flow of words. "They got a ring made up fer sparrin' an' a set o'boulders been hauled down fer a good ol' race." "No" Klynzahr fished a lone finger shrimp from her soup, to avoid meeting the boys' eyes. "C'mon, Ye could show 'em how a real Gladiator fights." "I'll bet ye'd take home all th'gil." "Freyhawb's gonna be there." "Ye know he still talks 'bout ye" Danisil's childish voice overlapped with Merlannka's cracking warble, interrupting each other in their eagerness. For once Iyrnahct remained silent, sending a knot of worry deep into Klynzahr's stomach. By her elbow, Old James continued to snore. Fortunately Klynzahr's scowl carried enough force to pause the onslaught of queries. "I said. No." She stated, sliding her soup bowl away. "I've no intention o'smashin' boulders with Freyhawb an' his ilk.... challenge him ter a swimmin' race an' mayhap." "Klynzahr!" Danisil's round face was flushed. "I know ye could beat 'em." "I couldna beat Freyhawb in me prime!" Klynzahr sent the poor boy a withering scowl, which cowed him into silence, but Merlannka turned away and muttered something about thirty years worth of excuses. Another night Klynzahr may have let it slide without comment. However tonight she turned slowly towards Merlannka and stared the awkward youth straight in the eye. "I've no' lifted an' ax in two years. Me back's no' good fer shite anymore an' me right shoulder be goin' fast. Now I have folk countin' on me an' Da's health ter consider, an' I am not goin' ter go an' injure meself over yer fool race." "Ginshaw would o'done it." "Ginshaw would o'lost." Klynzahr disentangled herself carefully from her chair and lifted James bodily off of the table. The old man muttered in his sleep before relapsing into even louder snores. The boys followed her lead, leaving Klynzahr with the uncomfortable realization that she was looking up at her younger brother. "Merlannka" She said quietly "Yer sixteen years old.... ifin ye want someone ter challenge Freyhawb at his own game, mayhap it oughter be you."
  13. Well I can't make it to either but that's probably a good thing (who in their right mind would want Klyn guarding a shipment of alcohol?).
  14. In my opinion there is a distinct difference between having stylistic preferences and tying yourself into a set of unwavering standards. Just because you are willing to give any RPer a shot, doesn't mean that you will click with all of them, but even among RPers that use the same post length, lore compliance, genera focus, gender portrayals, spell check program and syntax choices that you do.... you will still find people that you don't work well with. Sometimes branching out of your comfort zone can bring a pleasant surprise. I definitely agree with the OP. Avoiding snap judgements can broaden your RP and lead to many rewarding story lines. It certainly doesn't mean that you need to abandon your own standards of writing or that you need to enjoy every RP scene. Most of the time it will be a dud... ...... but it will always gain you more RP opportunities..... it might expose you to a new genera you had never tried....... it might inspire a poor writer to improve..... and it might turn out to be a really great story.
  15. Although I would love to attend the Mending Fences event, I can't make it at 9 on the fifth. The earliest that I could arrive online would be 10:30 CST, but if no one else leaps at it and the DM is willing I would be interested in joining the group midway through.
  16. That's funny, I had always assumed that you chose her name for it's connection to the word evangelist, which can be defined as a person marked by evangelical enthusiasm for or support of any cause. Klynzahr's name was chosen primarily for it's sound, and it's irony. Klynzahr translates literally to Small Tears, which in my head reads as a sort of good luck phrase, implying that she will shed few tears in her life. So far it's not working out for her and Klynzahr has become a solemn, somewhat grouchy character. .... but the real hilarity ensues, when other characters shorten her name to Klyn. They are essentially staring waaaaaaaaaaay up at this 7'2" woman and calling her 'Short'.
  17. I have attended events like this before and thoroughly enjoyed them. If the timing works out, I will definitely add Klynzahr into the mix. Bring on the all roe medical team! On a more serious note, Klyn is a well trained churgion, with some basic arcanist understanding. She isn't your typical healer, but she might bring some interesting perspective to the group.
  18. Klynzahr is constantly mistaken for a male anyways...... and she's pretty insecure about it. However if she had been born male there would be very little change to her character. She would have fewer insecurities about her femininity or love of woman, and more insecurities about her failings as a marauder and blacksmith. "Iyrnahctsyn, I don't understand this! He was a lalafell, a fucking lalafell!!! Next time you meet Jojora in the ring you are going to crush him like a grape, and don't give me any of this crap about 'possibly killing him'! This is the bloody coliseum!" The noxious turned away spluttering in indignation. Behind him a seven fulm four inch tall bag of muscle cowered in shame.
  19. I suppose that I am a member of the small camp, who just really liked Roegadyn lore. I have been waiting years for an MMO that put out a genuine sea faring race, and the Sea Wolves gave me that in spades. Those who say that their lore is threadbare may not have played the Limsa Lominsia main story quests before? They drop a lot of tidbits regarding traditional Sea Wolf culture and the recent changes they have been going through. Hellsgaurd do seem to have less to go on. While there are plenty of interesting hellsgaurd characters in the game, we get very little information on what there homeland is like. That probably explains why all three of my Roe (my main and two alts) have been sea wolves. As for the aesthetic, I had a brief moment during character creation of staring at the model and wondering "what on earth am I going to do with this?" I realized pretty quickly that it is very easy to make a femroe look intense, sweet, bookish, brutish, proud, awkward, elegant and almost anything in between. They just don't do 'cute' as well as other races. Every so often I come across an outfit on one of my Roe that is truly cringe-worthy. However they are definitely the minority and I am pretty sure that no other female in the game (possible exception of female highlanders) wears plate as well as a Roe does. 8-)
  20. Lake monsters sound like something Klyn would agree to tackle. Sign me up for the lake!
  21. I'm just going to take the leap and say that Klyn is available to join either this event or the upcoming Toto-rak one, if Leanne or Orrin want her along. She has the advantage of being very tanky but is afraid of explosions. My time is a pretty limited right now, but I will definitely be available on Saturday if she is needed.
  22. 2- Leanne has Klyn intrigued 1- Because she owes Orrin a favor or several 3- Sylphs!
  23. I will bring Klyn to event #2! Time to finish what she started. Edit: I could also bring Kuina to event #3 if no one else is interested.
  24. Yay! Now I can see all the cool stuffs that I missed.
  25. "One-way ticket ter Ul'dah. I'll take th'next flight ye got." Klynzahr punctuated her statement with the jangle of gil, as she deposited the last of her share from the Thanalan leve onto the flight attendant's desk. The sound reverberated through her skull, echoing painfully as the attendant began to count out fare. The night before remained a muddy blur of angry encounters and befuddling visions. For the cautious and grounded ex-sailor, the sequence of events would have been overwhelming even without the alcohol dulling her senses. Now she was struggling to sift through memories that boggled her sensibilities at every turn. Only the fight with Eva remained sharp, weighing on her mind to it's last detail. Fitting irony. "Uh Mam, You don't have the fare for a flight to Ul'dah." Klynzahr looked up blearily, fighting to focus through the pounding in her head. "What's at?" "I said you lack sufficient fare for the flight to Ul'dah." The attendant replied with forced patience "You do not have enough gil." With some effort, Klynzahr was able to recall the fight with Xanadu. Even now it struck her as odd, that the one evening, when she had meant the inquisitor harm was the only time in memory that Xanadu has not greeted her with insults and ridicule. There had to be something behind it. Yet her tired brain was quickly abandoned her, on the coat tails of her prided common sense. Somehow she had boxed an inquisitor on the horns and escaped with nothing but scratches. While her cautious side continued to berate her for it, Klynzahr had to admit it that it had been extremely satisfying, possibly even better than the night that she broke an oak chair over Bloefrusk's head. "Mam, are you listening to me?" The attendant broke in, shattering Klyn's recollections of that happy night. "Oh, aye, aye... I'll jus' take th'next flight ter Limsa then." Although Ul'dah might have offered more work, Klynzahr could immediately see the benefits of hiding in Limsa instead. In the first place, Xanadu might have more trouble locating her in a city full of other sea wolves, and she had put off a visit home for far too long. Her father would string up a hammock for her and the constant shouting of her brothers might keep the encroaching loneliness at bay. She also had some very pressing questions to ask her father about the nature of warriors and the quality of their rage. Some things that Sarnai had mentioned towards the end of the night had left Klynzahr quite unsettled. Although she reasoned that most of that exchange had probably been a drunken hallucination. At least she had refrained from damaging Sarnai's arm through poor healing. It was certainly better to mend bones while hungover then while drunk. With that comforting thought she looked up again and was met by the attendant's uncomfortably pinched smile. "You lack the gil for passage to Limsa also." She replied in a slightly strained tone. "Well bugger all! Where can I fly ter then?" "You do have the fare for a single Gridanian ticket." Klynzahr took a moment to weigh her options. She had never been fond of the shroud. She disliked the food, the drinks, and the lack of open sky. The last time that she had been in the shroud, she had been shot by a pair of void-wielding phsyco-chocobo-thieves that her brother swore were moonkeepers. On the other hand, she had just boxed an inquisitor's horns, and if she stayed in Ishgaurd she was bound to cross paths with Eva. That was enough to tip the scales. As the migrane had replaced her drunkenness, her cowardice had once again gained the upper hand. "One ticket ter Gridania then. I'll take yer next flight. Some time later that day, a scruffy elezen youth will track down Evangeline and hand her a brief note in familiar writing. _______________________________________________________________ Evangeline Primrose, Chairwoman of the Eorzean Special Comity for Democratic Revolution The old room at the night has been paid for until the end of next moon. Seems a shame to waste a good meeting spot like that. Spoke to the innkeep and he's agreed to leave all your papers and chairs and other things untouched. I'm going for a long walk.
