  1. I guess this is it then. In a few more hours, the doors will be closed... I'm getting sentimental as I watch the countdown timer on the Carrd, so I'll just post one more time. As a WoW refugee looking for a new place to call home in 2019, I met my first handful of friends in XIV by connecting with them here . Ever since then, these forums have been the first place I think of whenever someone wants to get into the RP scene. And then, when I decided to start a new character--just to see if I could make new RP friends and see if starting over was possible--this was the first place I came to. So thank you, RPC team and all you members, for being an anchor to XIV's RP community for the past decade. Perhaps we'll cross paths in game some day. Until then, cheers to all your continued adventures!
  2. Like everyone else, I completely understand why the forums need to come to a close, but it's still sad to know it's happening. I understand there are plenty of Discord servers, and other ways to find RP in game. And I understand the traffic on the forums is a fraction of what it used to be. At the same time, I can't help but worry a bit about newcomer RPers. The ones who have no connections, no idea which Discords to join, and no RPC forum to find when they Google "Where can I find RP on FF14?" Maybe they'll get by, and maybe I'm not considering that there are still easy ways to get into the RP community. Regardless, this was the first place I was directed to when I wanted to start RPing in game, and I'm sad I won't be able to do the same for future gen RPers
  3. Hey there! You're really putting a lot of thought into your character haha I think the short answer for you is, RP and gameplay are generally understood as two separate aspects of the game and you should RP the way that makes it fun for you. For example, my character also uses a greatsword, but he is in no way a Dark Knight. He's just a regular guy who happens to know how to swing a really big sword. An example about your visual concerns, there are players who RP as Ascians and have Ascian abilities, but of course there's no actual class that allows them to use Ascian abilities. To sum up, I don't see many people actively feel the need to show off their in-game visuals when typing up a paragraph of RP. In your specific case, you could unlock PLD and walk around with a broadsword and still claim to be a DRK during RP. If you want to somehow incorporate in-game effects with your RP, that might be trickier since each class's toolkit is exclusive to that class. But I don't think it's necessary to fret over you being a DRK while having Holy Circle in your toolkit when most of the RP you'll find is text-based And so you can enjoy the gameplay as a PLD while RPing as a DRK. Hope this helps!
  4. Hey there! So yes, Balmung and Mateus are still the de facto active RP servers for open-world RP. That being said, here's a few more tips to consider: Most open-world (i.e. "random walk-up") RP on Balmung and Mateus happens within Ul'dah. In my experience, most people look for RP inside or outside the Quicksand on either server, and the Gold Court on Balmung If you don't care about joining a Free Company on a particular server, as long as you create a character on the Crystal data center, you can visit any server on that data center by going to any of the Aetheryte Plazas in the three major city-states (Ul'dah, Limsa Lominsa, Gridania) The ability to visit other servers is great because that means you can attend RP events like the ones you see on the forum calendar. If you're looking for RP, I highly recommend going to one of these events since you know everyone who attends is looking for RP too (as opposed to open-world, where sometimes people are just sitting around idly) Hope this helps!
  5. For using macros for RP in general, here's a good beginner's resource on how you can do it: https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Emote_Guide Are you looking for an action that kind of looks like biting someone's neck? If so, I can't think of any off the top of my head. Maybe /malevolence to some extent. Or maybe some of the gender/race-specific emotes have a visual you're looking for. Regardless, if you already have a visual in mind, macros in general are about working with the "/wait" command. Off the top of my head, here's one that might be close: /taunt motion /wait /hug motion /em bites <t>'s neck. Om nom nom! /wait 4 /laugh motion /em cackles in delight.
  6. Hey Mystic. I'm sure there are people here who would be interested in doing that. Regardless, I highly suggest visiting one of the cafe or tavern events that happen across the Crystal DC. They're public RP events that make great environments for people of all levels of familiarity with RP. I also find that visiting Balmung and going to the Gold Court of Ul'dah during prime RP time is also a good way to see how people RP in the open world. Ultimately, RP is just talking and acting how you believe your in-game character would (it usually helps to give them some kind of backstory--even a simple one, like saying they joined the Sekiseigumi and found their way to Bushido's Code after so-and-so event happened). Beyond that, "getting situated into the life of RP" and what you want to do RP-wise depends on you and your FC mates--if you all want to just want to seek out other RPers at random, get together as an FC and gather at a tavern and talk war stories, or plan a DnD style campaign. I'm sorry I can't join your FC myself, but I hope this is helpful.
  7. Welcome to the RP scene, Asuka! There's definitely a lot going on in the RP neck of the woods I see you're on Leviathan so you're on Primal Data Center (I think?). I'd highly recommend sporadically checking the left side of this forum's main page. The Upcoming Events and Community RP Calendars are updated every day, and I find that cafes and taverns are great places to engage when you don't know any RPers yet. You can also check if there's anyone on Primal who's an RPer in this section of the forums: https://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum/23-making-connections/ When you examine people in game, you'll know the RPers by their Search Info--most of us will have something to the effect of: If you look at someone's Carrd, you'll get a sense of what their character is like, as well as if it's a character you want Asuka to interact with. And it never hurts to /tell someone and ask if they're interested in RPing with you. Hope this helps! Anyone here in the forum will be happy to answer what questions you have (myself included). Feel free to shoot a message, and happy RPing!
  8. Hey there! My character isn't looking for romance, but if you're interested in other types a friends I'd love to have him bump into Safiyah sometime!
  9. Hey there! I don't have a Carrd yet, but my character is frequently seen in Ishgard. If you're open to it, hope to have him bump into Daudentehrt sometime!
  10. Hey there! Lainey sounds like a fun character and I hope my boy Zeph gets a chance to encounter her sometime. That aside, I know that healing can be stressful when you're not used to it (especially in a group of randos who may or may not be jerks about it). Feel free to shoot me a message if you want to run an instance sometime with someone who's historically been a patient tank lol
  11. Hey all! I'm a (somewhat) veteran RPer within the game and thought I'd try my luck starting from scratch again. Meet my boy Zephyr: He's a work in progress, and I'd love to see if he jives with anyone. Here's a quick rundown of his basics and hooks so far: Where can I find this guy: Zeph is a wanderer, so he can easily meet up with someone anywhere in the world. During his idle time, you'll most often find him in one of the big taverns. What does he do: Zeph is a free spirit, pursuing his passion for art and looking to sate his curiosity of the history of the world. More practically, he is adept at wielding a greatsword--a necessity, as he is constantly broke and has to find work doing odd jobs. What's he like: Most free spirits have reputations for being social butterflies and inspiring those around them with their whimsical charisma... Less so is the case for Zeph. While easygoing and more than willing to make friends and go on adventures, Zeph is much more of an introvert (and a bit of a marshmallow). He may attempt to talk to you if he sees you alone, but more often than not he'd welcome anyone else to initiate conversation with him. You might call this a bit of a risky experiment since it's been difficult for me to pin down my online time lately (heh), but I'm eager to see where Zephyr goes in the RP scene. If anyone's interested in making friends with an introverted but otherwise friendly wandering artist, try to catch me online or feel free to shoot me a message and we can figure out how to meet up!
