Using a different model in game vs roleplay
Altitis Acquired replied to Redrick's topic in RP Discussion
I had a character who has alot of piercings and tattoos, which I put into his wiki and even did some photoshopped screenshots to show them: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Daevan_Emberbrand A good idea is to write in your Search Info that there are some changes and then put in a link to where people can go read about those changes. Or simply write "Is a Duskwight" even though you use the Wildwood model. You don't have to have dark purple skin just because you are a Duskwight. My character Corin is a Duskwight, but has pale skin... -
What if Red Magick that the Red Mage uses is Blood Magic? And you’d have to stab at the target to get the blood for your spells, and the flying crystal is the container of the blood you gain. That would be awesome, imo. :3

Samurai and Blue Mage in FFXIV - Weapons
Altitis Acquired replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Zenniage/Gil Toss is a classic Samurai move in the games! So if SAM was introduced, I could totally see them including it. Possibly as a ranged attack, and maybe serving as the Tomahawk/Shield Toss/Unmend if they do decide to make it a tank? Throw coin, get aggro. As long it doesn't mean we lose actual gil on it. -
I hope the Samurai will dual-wield swords. Final Fantasy XIV already have two sword wielding Tank jobclasses. Gladiator/Paladin and Dark Knight. Not to mention the Red Mage will wield a sword. To give the Samurai jobclass just a single katana would make it too much like the Dark Knight, imo. So to make it a bit more unique in weaponry and stance, it would be cool to see the Samurai swing two katanas instead of just having one, making it a bit less traditional. That said, if the Blue Mage also returns, it might become the jobclass dual-wielding swords, as it did in FFXI. However, there are alot of other weaponry versions of the Blue Mage. It could wield a whip, like Quistis from FF8, who was the game’s Blue Mage. Or maybe a magic gun, like the Gun Mage from FFX-2, which was that game’s version of the Blue Mage. I would personally prefer the whip for Blue Mage and dual-wield katanas for Samurai. But what do you think?

I do wonder if they will make an outfit based on the Bravely Default/Second version. I kinda like it.

There's an Au Ra called Sidurgu in the DRK job quests, but he was taught the ways of the Dark Knight by someone native to Ishgard. So it is possible for your Doman to become a Dark Knight, but it would most likely be through someone's tutoring. What Dark Knights do is harness their natural inner darkness, however, if your character is infected with Void energy or is a Voidsent, then there would be plentiful dark energy to tap from. Dark Knights and Voidsent are not correlated, but I'm sure you can spin the two together into your character. ^^

discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Altitis Acquired replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
If I could get from level 1 to level 60 by JUST doing the MSQ, then I would not have any issue with it. However, once you've done the MSQ on a character, you can't do it again on the same character, but with another jobclass... and it is that grind that's kinda dull and grating. Also, when levelling a whole new character, you still need to do some level grinding outside of the MSQ to make sure you can continue it and not suddenly stop to a halt because you aren't high enough level to progress. -
discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Altitis Acquired replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's more or less how it is currently on the chinese/korean servers and how they plan to add it if they do eventually. One jump potion that can get a job to 50 (will be 60 once Stormblood hits). One jump potion that can unlock the MSQ up to the very end of 2.55 (will be 3.55 once Stormblood hits). Is that all it does? Will a set of gear fit for said level be provided when using a potion like that, like it does in World of Warcraft? Or will people have to get that on the side? -

discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Altitis Acquired replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I have two characters who are level 60 atm. And I have a few other alts that I need to level up at some point... thing is... I don't really want to! I've been through the entire thing TWO TIMES already. So I'd love to grab me a few jump potions to get me up to at least level 50 on my other alts. That said, for new players... I think it's a shame if they don't go through the entire thing, from level 1 to level 60, at least ONCE! So maybe that should be a prerequisite; to have at least ONE character levelled up MANUALLY (that's with a stick) before you can use a jump potion on other characters. I am not sure how the restrictions work though... I mean, if I have a character on level 60 Arcanist/Summoner, can I use a jump potion to get Gladiator/Paladin to level 50 on the SAME character? Because... that would actually be cool! However, then SE should definitely make some kind of "How to play your class" in-game tutorial you'd have to go through. I guess they kinda have that with the different roles, those being Tank, Healer and DPS, at level 15... but I just fear that there will be alot of people who will then run around, playing a jobclass they don't know how to use, suddenly having all these abilities from the get-go and not knowing what they do... -

Wait... There's actual Monk staves in the Chinese version?! -
I'm not against this, as I like to play pure DPS, which I am doing with Machinist and Summoner... but I do think it could have been cool for it to have SOME support spells. Not necessarily direct healing spells, but maybe like a spell that boosts someone's MP or a 10-sec spell which does a bit of healing to the party equivalent to the damage the RDM does within those 10 seconds... stuff like that. Well, all we can do is wait and see what they give the Red Mage. ^^ That's what I'm doing too. Just changed my alt (soon to be main) who is this Elezen who has studied as an Arcanist and is now training some swordfighting to see if they can combine. ^^

Everyone (or, well, alot of people, at least) want to try out the new shiny toys! But like you said, then some people go back to what they know and enjoy while others fall in love with the new jobclasses and stick with them. RDM is just one of the new toys presented, but it is one that ALOT of people have asked for since FFXIV was first announced. Me being one of them. ^^ However, as for Heavensward, I was first in love with the Dark Knight! I still am, but it's the concept and appearance of it. I love how they look, I love the lore, they are just awesome! But it's a Tank... and I suck at Tank. I've always been DPS. And so, funny enough, I found the Machinist to be really enjoyable and then stuck with it on my current main, Cail. However, Red Mage would not fit Cail at all. He's a Highlander hands-on and very physical type of guy who never understood that much about magic. However, my very first character in FFXIV was an Elezen Arcanist who became a Summoner, which is now my current alt. And it just feels ALOT more natural for him to be a Red Mage, also because my FFXI character was an Elvaan Red Mage. Because RDM is such a stylish and graceful magic class, it just feels right to have it be an elven character. To me, at least. I am curious to see what the other classes will be though. I might find them fun to play as on another alt, or maybe it would feel natural for Cail to become one of those. I'm also interested in this if only because SE hasn't confirmed one way or the other if you'll need to be current on 3.x story to begin Stormblood. Since she's MIA from the opening cutscene up until 3.3 it would be weird for her to show up as a job NPC. But SE also said they didn't want to gate new stuff. Regarding the inevitable onslaught of incoming RDMs, I'm just bracing for how many people suddenly reveal that they're excellent duelists on top of whatever else they've been RPing for however long. It happened a lot with DRK, and I expect it to be a continuing trend. Edit: Spider-Man Shirt Speculation: Alisaie would be a cool RDM trainer. As soon as I saw her doing her thing in that cutscene (no spoilers ;P ), the first thing I thought was "RED MAGE"! So I could see her be part of the whole Red Mage job questlines. It would also make sense, should RDM be Sharlayan in nature. Also, I love that theory on the Spider-Man shirt. Makes sense to me. ^^ I admit, I am not the best player. However, I do my best to try and be at least good at playing the classes I've chosen and not make such mistakes you've mentioned above. I try and go online to get tips on how to play a class, so I won't make mistakes like using the Blank ability on Machinist while in dungeons/raids, stuff like that... seriously, people using the arguement "But it is part of my rotation!" just don't seem to care... However, we're all learning the new jobclasses at first, finding out what works and what doesn't, when to use what abilities and spells, etc. So yeah, it will be somewhat of a clusterfudge in the beginning, but in time people will learn how to use them. ... except those who just don't care. Edit: I write "However" alot... sorry.
-
This is what I think as well. Mine will most likely be an Arcanist experimenting with swordplay and combining the two, should Red Mage be "WoL only". However, I've noticed that alot of RP'ers kinda just go "screw that" and play as a Summoner who can summon Ifrit, Shiva and even Alexander, White Mages, Dragoons etc... I understand why, because the whole restriction of "WoL only" jobclasses is rather annoying. That you can't ICly play the class you chose to be, the class you enjoy playing... Who needs that? Anyways, sorry, that's for another topic.
-
Like Heidrek said, it's not weird at all. I too can't help but form my character around the class I choose. It might have to do with my World of Warcraft days where the essence of my Blood Elf was that he was corrupted by fel magic and was a Warlock. The old-school MMO way that one character can only be one class is stuck with me, hence why Cailean is a Machinist, though was a Rogue in the past so he also knows daggerwielding... I just can't help but have my chosen class become part of my character's RP as well. With my future Red Mage character, I will most likely go down the path of "he's a practitioner of magic, but knows swordfighting as well, and is now learning to combine the two"... but again, it depends on what RDM lore will be in the game.
-
It is definitely appealing to my playstyle, but RP wise, it would not fit Cailean. So I would either have to twist Cail a bit to make him fit or make him an alt, as I make a new character into a Red Mage. I have my alt who's been changed into several characters... but it will most likely become my main and then RP as Cail alternatively. Currently, my alt is Gemeaux, a Duskwight Elezen who is mainly an Arcanist, so he could ICly fit into becoming a Red Mage. So either that or I change him into a whole new character who is just mainly RDM, building up a new story around that. I have yet to decide, but I will make my decision as we learn more about RDM. ^^

I am all about that Red Mage! It was my chosen jobclass back in FFXI and it has been my favourite along with Summoner since the day I found out about it! In every FF I can be a Red Mage, I am a Red Mage! Also, the whole concept of a spellcasting swordfighter is one I adore most of all. So as soon this jobclass goes online, that will be my main! It sounds really interesting so far, being a ranged spellcaster who can dash in to do some melee rapier damage and then flip back again. It's so incredibly stylish, and if there's one thing RDM SHOULD be about it is STYLE! Having the rapier and the magic crystal which can be combined into a staff... PURE GENIUS!!! I can't wait to see what kind of spells they will have. Hopefully alot of enfeebling spells, some support spells and of course alot of flashy damaging spells channeled through the rapier, having alot of beautiful and stylish swordfighting. What do you think about the Red Mage so far? Are you excited? Anything specific you want to see RDM have? And is it a jobclass you will main, or maybe not? And why? Happy Holidays, everyone. ^^ This was a really good present, imo. <3
