I'm on usually from 06:00 PM - 10:00 PM from Mon - Thurs and 06:00 PM - w/e from Fri - Sun.

I. Basic Info Characters: Xydane Vale (I have no plans to roll an alternate character.) Primary character: Xydane Vale Linkshells: N/A Primary RP linkshell: N/A II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to Heavy. As much as I love to RP, I also love to play the game as well. Obviously crafting and sprinting 24/7 would be deemed OOC, just for example. You'll know when I'm in IC or OOC. Views on RP combat and injuries: I've always been a fan of emoting or /dice rolling. It gives players an even chance to win a fight disregarding gear and level. Speaking of which, I have never liked dueling or using PvP as a method to settle a fight. Equipment and the player's skill should not determine who wins ICly. That's not how it works and I have seen the ugly side of it in World of Warcraft. As for injuries, it's always fun to RP injuries or see others injured as it gives player's who RP as medics a chance to put themselves to good use but let's remember the key fact and not overdue it. If you can't follow the rules, you shouldn't be RPing at all. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I prefer /say, emotes, and /tell IC unless otherwise noted by "((" and "))" brackets. I also find that in-game mail is also a great way to RP and again, unless otherwise noted. III. Unless I've completely misunderstood you, that's what I think, too! It's not that my character is more important than me or that the RP is more important than players. I just enjoy the story I develop, and I don't find it enjoyable if everything is carefully planned in my character's story. Getting surprises (not just from romance but from anything) is part of the RP excitement for many people, after all; it's just the way we play! Exactly. We never know what's going to occur and constantly asking other player's what actions their characters will take or what words they will speak can and will compromise the RP. Players should just have fun and let w/e happens, happen.

This is a great idea especially for new RPers. They wouldn't know how to start or where to look and with a designated area, it'll also bring about more RP encounters and encourage other points to form as well.

I find this thread interesting and helpful because I plan to add a "romantic chapter" into Xydane's story. What's Final Fantasy without romance? I know that RP Romance is a very touchy subject and I will not bother going into the whole "ERP" topic. If other players want to do it - cool but let's remember that there is a time and place for everything. They pay for this game so I have no right to tell them what they can and cannot do. I cannot stress enough the times I have heard and seen numerous situations where players cannot draw the line between IC and OOC. I honestly believe that if one was to romantically RP, they should never go pass anything OOC. It's like IRL - you're not gonna find what he/she is thinking and what they are planning for example. You're not going to know and you should just go with it. Mentioning anything OOC will ruin the "illusion" behind the lovers and their story. Again, this is just my opinion and my statement. I also find that romantic RP is one of many ways to further a player's skill in RP. For example: When and when not to add detail to an action and more use of vocabulary. RPing is pretty much telling a story and writing a book. I know I wouldn't want my book to have short, quick, and choppy sentences. Overall, I just plan to see where this "chapter" will take Xydane. Perhaps he will stumble upon a girl while simply traveling. Maybe it'll be a chance encounter when he saves her from something or someone. I dunno but it's funny and exciting to see how it'll happen.

I am very happy! This has made my morning and I am excited to play and get some RP in with friends along with the chance to RP with others! Yes! Haha!

You're not the only one. I personally feel that not allowing RPers to make their first character in Balmung/Gilgamesh seems quite unfair. I'll be straight forward and probably 75% of the reason why I bought FFXIV was to RP. I have not made my character or any other characters yet for that matter. As soon as I can get my guy in Balmung, I'll be content.

Didn't they say they will get it fixed by Monday? I still cannot create my character and play the game!

Yet here we are... That is exactly the same routine I am going through. Hopefully the server issues lift in a couple of days. It's just very frustrating but I'll be patient. I guess that's the only thing any of us can do, really. Just wait it out.

That sounds awesome and thanks so much for the information. It's finally good to hear some news on what is going on with the servers and now I can finally pass on this info. to my buddy. I will definitely design my character in the mean time. I've always had a concept for him and I can remember drawing the first artwork of Xydane back in my kiddy years in Jr. High. Haha. I'm really stoked on playing and thanks for the welcome! And yeah, I've been excited for FFXV Versus for quite some time. Noctis seems to be one hell of a character and fighter.

Just thought I'd introduce myself. Been checking out the site now and I must say that I'm very impressed. Tons of great resources for RP and lore and though I'm new to FFXIV, I'm not new to RP nor MMO's. Currently still RPing in WoW (Moon Guard) and thought it would be nice to finally RP that Final Fantasy character I have always imagined. I first started RPing in World of Warcraft in 2007 and that's pretty much where it began. My RP style is considered heavy and I tend to be in IC most of the time. A buddy and I have been planning to roll characters on Balmung for RP but it seems that the servers cannot take anymore characters? I have been told that the servers are usually glitched out for the first couple of days in the game and I would very much love to get into Balmung. Is it a waiting game until I can finally hop into Balmung? Anyhow, I look forward to RPing with you all in FFXIV and creating a story of a lifetime. Hope to see you all... as soon as Balmung will grant me access.
