1. Hm, Xydane and I do share a few common traits. 1) We're both military; both being elite members of an certain group in their own. 2) We both like to fight; five years of Mixed Martial Arts for me. 3) We're both cocky and stubborn at the same time as well. However, it's not like a bad "rub it in your face" cocky. The reason behind that is probably because he's... well, human. Therefore I can relate more. My character in WoW is completely different. Let's just say my Orc Warrior portrays who I -strive- to be. The only thing we have in common is our sense of honor but I sometimes find it strange that I have created someone who is wiser than myself, if that makes any sense.
2. Ugh. This is my second failure on this forum. :frustrated: Thanks Magellan! Can a Mod delete this thread? Thanks, - Xydane
3. I'm just rather curious, is anyone planning to create a RP event at the Amphitheatre in Gridania? I know there was a RP event involving a play around a month ago but other than that.... with such a great spot, nothing seems to pop up. The reason I ask? Shoot me a PM. Thanks much, - Xydane
4. An awesome read which gave me a good laugh! Looking forward to reading more stories!
5. You'll be fine. Just try at off peak hours. That is usually when the restriction is uplifted. Yes, I was able to create my character again this morning. Thank you!
6. Yeah... I hate to post this but I just deleted my character in an attempt to re-roll him a couple of minutes ago and BOOM! Balmung's new character creation is restricted! :frustrated: Now, it's my dumb fault 100% for forgetting about the restrictions but I have a rather quick question? I couldn't find a server thread so that's why I'm making an individual thread. Is the restrictions going to be the same ordeal like when the game first came out or does it go on and off? I know the website has a time schedule on when the servers allow new characters to be created but... I've had better info. coming from you guys then the bloody website. So am I screwed or is Balmung going to open again? EDIT: Nevermind. I found the answer to my question in a thread below.
7. Tell me about it. I came back from my last military deployment and it took me a couple of hours to remember how to ride my bike again without eating it. It's probably going to be the same for drawing...
8. My god, I have been listening to "Twilight Over Thanalan" over and over again for quite some time now. It surprises me to find the person who covered this to be on the forum! Bloody fantastic!
9. I know I haven't RPed with Val yet but I would also like a chance with Cyrus. Hit me up the next time you see me online. Now there's some motivation! Haha! Chi-Ji says: I challenge you not to think of hope as a vague and unimaginable future. Live EVERY day with hope in your heart. In doing so, you CREATE the future you dream of. This. This is how I 'Good' Alignment. Bringing in the good ol' Spirits of Pandaria. They taught Emperor Shao-Hao to live for his people and to overcome his inner sins. Their speeches gives me goosebumps everytime!
10. Well, I always tend to create characters that are more towards the "just" side so I find it extremely fun and exciting to play. In this case, a lot of twists and turns can conflict such as the examples others have previously posted. Then again, as an experienced RPer - RPing in WoW and still going strong - I have learned that a "heroic" character can only take their RP so far due to in-game reaction and it just simply changes things. I don't want to sound too complicated but if I can give out an example: I RP an Orc Warrior hailing from the Frostwolf Clan in WoW. Now, this clan is one of the few more "honorable" clans, IMO, that escaped the corruption that the other orcish clans faced during time long passed. I try to make my warrior open-minded and while there are those who rule by strength and fear, there are also those who rule by wisdom and honor. My character honors strength, wisdom, compassion, humility, and the love of his people above all else. While I strive towards the "heroic" ideal and though the Horde faction might see it, in the Alliance's eyes - my Orc is nothing more than a bloodthirsty brute. Do you see where I am getting at? It's all a matter of opinion, other's reactions and views, and the standing point as to where your character find themselves in. And again, it also depends on the story and situation. I consider Xydane and his older brother to be, yes, "good guys." Their ideals ares fueled by revenge as well as the love for family and friends. Final Fantasy XIV pits us against demi-gods and a ruling tyrannical army bent on seizing the world. You can obviously see Xydane's standpoint. So far, I have seen many "neutral" characters during my time in FFXIV and not many "good guys" out there who openly show it. It would be nice to meet and gather with others who share the same ideals and concept but I also find the percentage of "heroic" characters, sadly, very low. I don't think many are willing to do it to be quite honest.
11. This topic makes me laugh. Gamers in their right should play video games however they want it and when they want it. What the public fails to realize is that video games are big stress relievers for a lot of folk, myself included. BBC has no right to stick their nose in bloody business that's theirs. You know, I could continue to rant on this but I'm going to cut my reply short. Realism is good, yes, but to an extent. There is a big line between reality and the virtual world and for example, I cannot remember a video game shooter where I'm gunning civilians. Last I checked, I'm out and about hunting bad guys whether they're the Covenant from the 'Halo' series or terrorists bad guys in 'Modern Warfare'. I dunno, it just frustrates me that people keep poking s**t when there is obviously nothing wrong with it. They can go ahead and give an opinion but at the end of the day, people like me couldn't GAF.
12. Thanks all for creating the event and making it happen! Even though I only RP'ed a bit, it was still awesome to see that amount of RPers. There was so much RPing going on, I had to expand the chat box and I still couldn't catch up! Thanks Quarimar Baenund for the quick RP and I also spotted Konner Kinkaid & Emadra Venros. Thanks again guys! Hope to see another one coming up.
13. I had the same question. I already sent faceman7381 a message and now I'm just waiting for the reply...
14. I'll be happy to show up. I've been focusing on questing and leveling that I haven't been able to get any RP in at all ever since I started playing FFXIV. You can count on me to be there!
15. Yeah, but for arguments sake, birds aren't dragons. Fafnir, Ryujin, and Gorynych are all cool names, but it feels 'claimed' by imagery of giant scaly bastards. Chocobos are rotund and fluffy. Also, there's plenty of equally bad-ass birds out there. Like Ninkasi, goddess of beer, who is a giant fire breathing eagle, conceived from the mythological equivalent of the big bang. There's also Aquila, the aspect of lightning in Greek mythology. Altair is the Arabic name for Aquila's constellation, and the namesake of the more infamous Assassin's Creed character with a strong tie to the imagery of eagles. Alkgnost, a bird of eastern myth that flies out of hell during thunderstorms to eat souls of those stuck out in the rain. There's the Lovecraftian Shantak, a great and terrible scaly bird that commands the skies bordering the dream realm of the gods. Oh, and the Roc/Rohk, which was probably actually a real giant fucking death bird that could carry away small cattle. And these are just a few of the ones with cool-ish sounding names that aren't already spoken for in universe, like Garuda and Phoenix. Just for your consideration. We all know dragons are immensely awesome. The insanely OP'd birds in mythology get so much less credit! Really was just trying to be helpful, not pushy. I utterly lose my mind and everything comes to a grinding halt when I need to think of the perfect name, so if I saved you a headache by cracking out the old dictionary of mythology, I'm glad. Yeah. I never did get my gold chocobo though :c This was all way back before you could just google that though, so maybe I was just doing it wrong. Those darn strategy guides are never right! Yeah, I was joking around on the dragon part. I thought naming my chocobo would be easy but now it seems I must go in depth on my creativity. Hehe. Don't get me wrong, your advice is extremely helpful and it now has me looking at more "inspired" options. An example would be that most prehistoric flying reptile species are named after mythological birds which in this case, you have just informed, so maybe I can browse around at a species of flying reptile and find something. Hell, an idea can also sprout from looking at feathered dinosaurs - early species of raptors found in Ancient China for example... EDIT: Wait a minute..... *facepalm* I'm naming him "Raptor." There we go.
16. I think everyone who ever saw that comic remembers it when "chocobo breeding" is mentioned. Haha, that was great! I had a good laugh! This is why we don't do chocobo inbreeding ladies and gentlemen!
17. Considering that in game birds are actually categorized as their own species of wyverns, it would make more sense than naming a flightless bird after the 'King of the Skies' On the other hand, the Rathalos is extremely bad-ass. Maybe go with Rathian, Queen of the Land? c; Haha, now you got me thinking of all flightless wyvern species in 'Monster Hunter.' Then again, I could just use the name of a dragon... hm... think, think, think.
18. I'm still debating between "Rathalos" or simply "Wyvern." Inspired from the 'Monster Hunter' game series FTW!
19. Haha, I always wanted Xydane to meet a "wealthy" character. It would add to the list of interesting folk that are included in his story. It'll be awesome to stumble upon your character so looking forward to some good RP. Shoot me an in-game OOC mail or /tell.
20. I'm still in the process of creating Xydane's story as well as leveling up but I've been meaning to hop onto RPing as quickly as possible. I'll be happy to RP with you - just shoot me an in-game OOC mail or /tell.
21. I'd say that Xydane's biggest flaw would be when people get in his way. Whether it's a fight or a personal burden, Xydane's anger and pride tends to get the best of him. Having experience the loss of many friends in past events due to said above, this trait not only hardens the character's drastic emotions but also shows the level for how much he cares for others. He just doesn't show it and would rather curse, yell, and push. This is the reason why he prefers traveling alone and dealing with everything his own way.
22. It's the same thing for Xydane. Though I am still working on his backstory, I am slowly piecing together what I can develop for him as I play the game. With that being said, I have never played 1.0 so it allows me more room to fill in the gaps for the story while it'll be interesting enough to meet someone who jumped forward through time. To imagined what those characters have missed during the five years of their absence. Where are their family and friends? What is their status? What has happened?
