I hear a lot of people complain about this kind of thing, yet I never really had to many problems finding walk-up RP's. A lot of people actually have "walk-up RP friendly" on their profile. Though it is really dependent on the time of the day I admit. I'm not sure if you're online during peak times (remember, this is an international server, so peaktime is usually in the evening/at night U.S. timezone) but I can assure you that you will definitely find Random RP during those times unless your character is too passive. That's a problem with shy people in general, even in real life. You kind of need to make the first step sometimes, even though it might be scary. So maybe your character tries to overcome that barrier? Or maybe something happens that puts you into a situation where your character has to interact with people in one form or another? There's always ways to make it happen somehow.

On a side note I want to make a few things clear since there has been a lot of drama going on lately and I don't think that this kind of stuff should be happening in a chatroom full of adults. First of all: I would like it if discussions or arguments regarding religion and politics could be avoided or treated in a mature manner. I'd like to think that we are all old enough to talk about such things without trolling or insulting people that have a different opinion about these things. If I see this getting out of hand again in the future I will start punishing people involved in these activities and might even start swinging the ban hammer. I really dislike doing this but it seems that some people just don't understand it otherwise.

I don't remember the exact year but I think it was around 1998? Pretty much when UO was still new was when I really started getting into the RP scene. From UO I went into several IRC Chats where I continued RPing until WoW came out. I continued RPing throughout several games until eventually ending up here ^.^

Bump. Anyone interested in some CaH tonight?

Xenosaga - Mostly because of the awesome soundtrack. Secret of Mana - Pretty straightforward story but awesome gameplay and music. Secret of Evermore - One of the first RPG's that more or less satirized its own genre. Lufia Series - Nice story, awesome puzzles and a very nice soundtrack. I especially loved the ancient cave. Chrono Trigger - Do I even have to say WHY this game is awesome? I literally can't find a flaw in this game. Breath of Fire - Another very nice series. I liked the 2nd game the most. Super Mario RPG - Not the best RPG I played but still a pretty satisfying experience. Terranigma - Incredibly satisfying gameplay, nice soundtrack and a story that'll make a grown man cry. Grandia - Nice soundtrack, especially the 2nd game was a very satisfying experience. Elderscrolls Series - This series never fails to impress in the visual and audio department. Fallout Series - A nice alternative to the usually more "colorful" RPG's. I absolutely love the setting and how it always manages to connect a nuclear dystopia with some nice classic music. If I had to choose how the world ends this would be my pick

That's a good question. Let me give you an opposite question. Is it okay to base your class choice around the way your character is defined? Because that's pretty much why I will be playing Rogue/Ninja as Lyriell. I created her in 1.0 with one thing in mind: She will be a fighter that wields 2 swords/daggers. I had to wait a loooong time, but now I finally get the dual wielding class I wanted so I'm very happy. <3

I really don't like a lot of people being so onesided in their answers here. We literally only know one side of the story and that side isn't even explained proberly. Maybe I'm missing something here since the original post was edited, but was the guy cheating on you IRL or just via ERP? If the latter is the case then you need to ask yourself, can this really be considered cheating? What if that guy looks at the picture of a naked woman? Is that considered cheating too? What about music videos? Lot's of them have naked booties and titties in them, is that considered cheating too then? I don't want to be an asshat about it...but men...are men you know..? Aside from that, just because he's doing ERP doesn't mean he does it to get off to it. I for example consider ERP to be part of a characters development. If it fits the situation then I don't see anything wrong with it. We're playing out the life of a character and sadly the sexual life is a part of that as well. Now if he's doing ERP constantly without any plot to it involved and if he's pretty much just an ERP whore then I'd understand your dilemma. But if it only happens occassionaly then I'd see nothing wrong with it. I also don't like how people say the guy has to set his priorities right. You don't even know him. Maybe he cherishes his freedom? I for one wouldn't like to be told what I have to do, not even by my girlfriend, my mother or anyone. If I feel I'm not in the wrong, then why should I have to change? I hope that's some food for thought.

I view it more as fantasy since it is obviously supported throughout the lore. However the way I see it is that there's only a minority that is really, really powerful. (You know, guys like Loixouis for example) I'd say the majority of the population in FFXIV is relatively normal compared to the really powerful beings. Yes, some of them can use magic. Yes, some of them have strength that would exceed that of a normal human. But it's not to a degree where everyone walks around as some sort of Superman. So I'd say it's fantasy, comparable to LOTR.

I like all the different aspects of RP and try to include all the different emotions throughout the stories of my characters. It needs romance, tragedy, conflicts and more to feel alive for me. Life doesn't always show the golden side of the coin, and thus it should be the same in RP as well. To me it makes the characters feel much more alive when there's the risk of loosing something or someone. I like when characters have to overcome certain obstacles and evolve during that process. Of course I also like some comic relief here and there at times when it can ease the tension a little bit. I usually don't mind how many people are part of the RP or what type of persons. In general I just want to avoid ooc drama or people that might want to troll RP events (I've seen this happen quite often) but other than that I pretty much welcome everyone during RP's. I certainly like my RP slow-paced, but I usually add some forum RP too if I ever feel that the story needs to speed up a little. I do love RP events, especially if they involve some epic storylines, although this isn't always easy to do.

It seems it's highly dependable on the popularity of the character. As you said there doesn't seem to be a Cloude Strife character with that exact name. So I guess it depends on several factors: The character being very popular, other players being a dick about reporting someone and the player with said name itself being a dick to other players or not (ties in well with players reporting him)

MUAHAHA! *evil laughter and the sound of thundersparks in the background* eh..ehem...sorry about that. Anyway to get back to the topic: My idea was to keep most of her personality as she usually acts during the series. However the background story will focus on FFXIV lore instead. I don't just want to copy each and every single aspect of her, and I think even if I would try hard I'm not going to be able to copy her personality a 100%. That's because there's always some influence on the character by the player itself.

I don't take that too seriously to be honest. I've been playing with that name for about half a year and it's pretty common that people use names from all sorts of different platforms. I think I'll just stick to more light RP with Fate since the community seems pretty torn about the subject, which is totally fine with me ^^

These were kind off my thoughts on it, though I fear that some people will probably ignore my character despite of how I will play her or fit her into the FFXIV theme. Also, I haven't played Star Ocean 3, but I still love the soundtrack :3 Is it as good as the soundtrack is? I might give it a try ^^

sounds like you played too much SO3 and you're trying too hard. Honestly, I'd advise against making an obvious reference. Just keep the FT initials and make a name based off of that would be my advice. I don't even know what SO3 is and this is less about obvious reference but more about the fact that I personally just really love that name, that's why I at least want to keep the ring it has right now.

I'm thinking of making a deviation of the characters name. Though I don't really want to do a name change either. I could let her engine name be as it is but change her canon name if that makes sense? How about Fayt Tessarousa?
