  1. This is Abby, she likes to sleep on my shoulders while I play.
  2. As I'm sure you're aware, Gharen speaks with I would say a moderate to thick Scottish accent, which is something he almost did not have. I've seen a few NPC's here and there speak in a similar accent for instance the blacksmiths guild master in Limsa. I can't think of all of them but it's sprinkled through the game here and there. Ultimately I don't think that particular accent is region specific, though as I recall in the first cutscene regarding the Garlean empire a midlander claiming to be from Ala Mhigo was sporting one as well, just before he was offed. I could be wrong on that so please correct me if I am.
  3. Very cool. Already have my app in.
  4. Shameless cross promotion. I like it =)
  5. Character: Gharen Wolfsong Primary Weapon(s): Lance, Sword and Shield Secondary Weapon(s): Own body, Broad Axe, Bow Class-equivalent: Lancer/Dragoon, Gladiator Style: Ala Mhigan Weapon Master Offense/Defense/Versatile: Versatility and Adaptabilty Summary: Gharen is self-taught in almost everything he knows. Much of his fighting style having evolved simply by watching others initially, then putting this into practice himself, while it may not always appear to be so, he is always watching and listening, attempting to commit to memory footwork, movements, and the patterns that appear in the various fighting styles that he sees. Strengths: Believing that the each known martial style of combat form a wheel, and every style is but a single spoke in that wheel, obtaining even a fundamental understanding of these various methods of combat offer insight and adaptability to whatever weapon focus is used and or faced. The weapon master is able given a wider range of options in order to think outside of the box in the heat of battle and enhancing overall survivability potential for victory by using unconventional tactics in order to keep opponents guessing, and off balance. Weaknesses: The path of becoming a weapon master runs the danger being a Jack of all trades and master of none, leaving oneself open to defeat at the hands of a more specialized opponent. Garnering the fundamentals, then specific specialization, builds a stronger foundation that can be built upon as time goes by. Extra: Gharen's combat style is generally evolving and unconventional without dipping into dishonorable tactics. He will often allow an opponent to become lulled into a sense of security believing they know what they are up against by utilizing a small toolbox of attacks only to in the middle of a fight mix Ala Mhigan Martial Arts or other applicable styles and bring wider ranged combat skills to bear in order to overwhelm an opponent.
  6. I don't see why not. Everything that I've read regarding Ala Mhigo is just that the majority of the population was Highlander I imagine a few Miqo'te would have been there and there certainly isn't anything that says there were none. Now if you're looking to be lore friendly the city was occupied in 1557, at the start of AAR it is currently 1577, a full 20 years ago. Depending on your character story your miqo'te could be 25-35 give or take If they were a youngling in training or older if they were a full blown monk at the time of the occupation. Hope this helps.
  7. (Disclaimer: If my spelling and grammar sucks it is because I'm running on 4 hours of sleep at the end of a 12 hour workday.) There's a thread regarding something similar pertaining to Dragoons, 1556 occurs 21 years before the start of AAR. My answer for both monks and Dragoons is the same, it is highly unlikely that every monk was killed, some would have spread out, gone into hiding, or started new lives. And very likely, in an effort to keep the teachings alive took on students, causing the art or variations of it to spread even further. For a real world example of this in action, (minus the executions and such) take a look at Brazilian jiu jitsu which was introduced in 1914 as the japanese migrated to Brazil they brought with them their knowledge of Judo. Which, has since over the last century evolved into it's own style of jiu jitsu. So yes you could potentially train to be a monk under their established tenets, hell, you could even RP that the style you learned is one that's evolved slightly over the years.. but officially joining the order? Probably not.

    Advice?

Does he have something he's aiming to do or something he's looking for that could help you out with starting something? ** The person that posted right before me asked the same thing but better. I personally worry that I might be feeling too selfish so I go to the extreme opposite. Siobhain is supposed to be a proficient fighter-- the only two fights I've had, I lost both. They were free form so there wasn't rolling, I chose to lose them and da's no bueno if it keeps happening just because OOCly I have issues with making others feel like I'm too OP. As said in the 'weakness' thread, when you have too many, it's just as character stumping as having too many strengths. So, if you can find a little goal like love or a 'bromance' style friendship of sorts, then that might help too. Have to agree here, Without some kind of motivation or drive a character, just like a person will never evolve and wind up stuck. Having something happen or forcing that character into a situation that takes them out of their comfort zone is one way of doing it. It helps to inject your character here and there, Gharen is so withdrawn that walk up RP is something he wouldn't do. So I found an LS that coincides with his current motivation. Two fights lost, one more or less on purpose Siobhain is angry at him, it's been a good week and he's well on his way to becoming a productive member of the RP community. =) That said, Sio's Wiki is awesome, up there with some of my favorites from our virtueverse wiki on CoH.
  9. This is a nifty idea to generate some RP. Unfortunately I think my character would be too anti-social to even try it.
  10. (Holy crap that managed to knock several hours out of my night at work.. had to do some research and fleshing out as well. I initially couldn't really answer as him since he wouldn't answer them to begin with. But I've since gone through and edited this post to reflect how he would answer. Evasively most of the time, bluntly and to the point the rest. I think it's safe to say this character will be a pain in the ass to deal with, and commend anyone who successfully tries.) Gharen entered the small clearing where he had made camp for the evening. He added some wood to the fire that had burned low. As he stoked the fire he noticed a scroll sitting beside the boughs that made up his bed. His first instinct was to survey the area, there wasn't anyone nearby, and nothing had been taken from his camp. He relaxed, letting out a small breath, picked up the scroll and started to read. A moment later he flicked his wrist and lobbed the scroll into the fire, his thoughts whirled for second as he watched the parchment catch flame. He scrambled forward and reached into the fire and rescued the scroll as he patted the flames out. He reached into his pack and pulled out a small stick of charcoal and opened the scroll...
  11. As a new player I'll toss in my 2 gil. Category A: You, OOCLY 1. Are there any any races you particularly love the opposite (or same) gender of? The models, the history, the lore, anything. OOC, Roe, Hyur, Miqo'te, and Elezen Women are pretty much all attractive in their own ways. Can't say much about animations yet etc. With Lalafell, I lean toward them being too childlike in appearance. 2. How do you view interracial couples in -game-? Specifically, let's not get into a debate about whether or not it's 'gross' to you as a person or if there are too many people doing it. My take on this is pretty simple. Hey good for them, love needn't necessarily be physical, that's just one of it's facets. 3. Do your OOC feelings towards a particular race make you more open or affect what your character is looking for when they're either flirting around, pursuing romance, or just, in general, acting differently towards those individuals. Gharen is a broken individual. He doesn't flirt or pursue romance, simply because he doesn't know how. His mental state due to his upbringing is that of someone who always alone looking in from the outside even when in the middle of a crowd. And if it ever found him he wouldn't know what to do with it. His perception of his own self worth has been so warped that he doesn't believe he's worthy if such attention, as such he isolates himself. Other characters I start might wind up very different. A Lalafell who thinks he's a Don Juan ladies man might be next. Category B: Your character 1. Does your character seek friends or partners based predominantly on race? Nope, race doesn't enter into Gharen's line of thinking. 2. How does your character view interracial pairings and are their feelings different from your own? He doesn't give them any second thought. They are what they are, just a fact of life.

    Greetings

I managed to pick up what I think was the one sole physical copy of the game to enter my area yesterday and got a brief start on Balmung (figures I'd manage to get the game right at the beginning of my work week). So I figured I'd better make the greetings official. So Greetings Balmung server! I look forward to interacting with all of you and some great RP. --Character ideas: Gharen Wolfsong, A young man bearing the physical scars of a harsh upbringing. Quiet, serious, Introverted, and Isolated by nature, Gharen often falls into dark moods and is prone to brooding. It is a rare individual that is able to break him from his bouts of melancholy, and while often morose and moody at times, he has a deep tenacity to complete his training in the arts of combat in order to defend those who may not be able to defend themselves.

    Greetings

Thank you for your replies. I'll likely be starting my character on Balmung once digital sales open again. Which will hopefully be sooner rather than later as there doesn't seem to be physical copies of the game within 100 miles of me.

    Greetings

--MMORPG background: Everquest, DAOC, FFXI, WoW, CoX, ToR, etc etc. --RP experience: My first RP Experience was started in CoX where I was part of, and eventually ran an RP supergroup. --Character ideas: Will likely be a Tanking class or Dragoon still deciding --How did you learn about the coalition? While searching for the unofficial server(s) I found a post from a member that directed others here and contained the link in their sig. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? medium/heavy Greetings, I am likely going to be a new player once SE lets me buy my Digital download copy of the game, before that though I'm doing my homework on the community. How are they on Balmung and Gilgamesh? I've seen threads from skimming the official forums regarding toxic elements in the game which seems to center around the duty finder which is cross server as I understand it? Basically what I'm saying is I know I'm going to encounter A-holes in game, that's an unfortunate given in any mmo. I'm hoping that joining Balmung or Gilgamesh not only will I find a great RP community that's willing to teach, but also stem having to deal with the "L2Tank noob!" types.
