Regarding the OP, In the end it boils down to the player, nothing more, nothing less. Utility or not you've been given a box of tools, how do you use them? Do you strive to learn and to be better with what you have? Or do you act like so many of the childish we see in the duty finder that think they are the greatest gift to whatever class they are playing? Unfortunately, there are so many people that fall into the latter it gives the rest a bad name and the only way for us as players to counter that short of shouting for the devs to buff this or that is to simply know your box of tools inside and out and always be flexible enough to learn something new.

Your logic flawed here and/or your information is wrong. There is Zero difference between "risk" for Monks and Dragoons as they both have attacks that put them on the flanks and rear of the enemy. The primary difference is that monk Combos require specific positioning for each attack in a combo string to get it's full effect where as as a DRG I have positioning requirements to start my combos. And I can be where ever I please to finish them. As far as risk? (i.e. receiving damage) There's no difference unless the person playing that class is a moron snuggling up to the tank trying to be a hero.

Honestly, I've seen this argument cover multiple aspects of the game. From class, to relic, to Artifact armor. I'm going to use two classes as examples, both of which I've 50's Dragoon and Paladin. As roleplayers the smart thing to do is take that portion of the lore that says "you are the one and only" with a grain of salt, because as stated previously the jobs are not consistent. If we abide by the lore anyone can become a free paladin but not a sultansworn, yet there can only be one Dragoon or White Mage? Lets face it, the game and it's story were not designed with Roleplayers even remotely in mind. And anyone that rolls their eyes and says I shouldn't RP with my Dragoon relic and or AF gear because of the "lore" when I see Paladins doing just that all over the place can go pound sand. IC Gharen isn't a sultansworn and didn't receive his soul of the paladin according to the games story. Same goes for Dragoon. As far as I'm concerned, the lore while nice, isn't sacred in these aspects, and to treat it as such would be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Welcome to the RPC =) I'd highly recommend taking a look at the Linkshell list for Balmung located >Here< Intermission and Europa are good "looking for RP" linkshells. What kind of stories has your character gotten into? While Gharen has yet to get into any real stories of his own he's been a support in stories for people around him, He left for a month in order to find a cure for a friends sickness and has become a mentor and teacher to others within the grindstone. And is currently embroiled in an a story to maintain the freedom of one of his students who was until recently a slave. What has been your favorite RP moment so far? My favorite moments have been when other characters start pick and pry at just who Gharen is. Only one character has gotten past the wall he puts up to keep others at arms length but others, especially recently, have found chinks in his armor. What was the most shocking RP moment this year? I think that Gharen who is quiet, anti social, and doesn't openly approach others very often has managed to make more connections than I really expected him to in such a short time. A moment early on and one more recently with Hornet having left confused and with his guard down. What was the most surprising thing you found out about your character? This is a tough one. Gharen deep down wants connections and relationships with others but at the same time suppresses that desire and puts up walls to keep everyone out. Like a moth to a flame he seems to unknowingly (and awkwardly) put himself in harms way, physically and emotionally. What relationships did your character build?Wow.. lets see.. Siobhain, A'khenna, A'nzil, Qaeli, Val, Hornet, Jajara, Roen, just to name a few off the top of my head. What are you looking most forward to seeing in the future with your characters growth and story? I'd eventually like to see Gharen get over his personal hangups. He was designed to be someone whose world view could be pushed to one direction or another for good or bad based upon the RP events that occur around him.

I'm not Sure what could be causing your machine to freeze like that short of a bad install of the game or perhaps your video card drivers crashing. Check your application and system logs in the event viewer and it may give you an indication as to what's wrong. One thing you can and should perhaps give a try is to start the game via Steam, (some people also use fraps) once you've done that you can configure steam to take screenshots and even save uncompressed copies to your hard drive.

If it costs half as much as it does now my character will continue to live in the wilds plain and simple.

Playing the quiet loner when especially new to the game makes for a challenge, something I've found out while playing Gharen. I'd highly recommend checking the LS areas. Intermission is a good one to meet other Rp'ers, Balmung's Finest is great finding groups, :tonberry: ((WARNING:shameless LS promotion incoming!)) :tonberry: And if your character likes to get into an occasional scrap The Grindstone is filled with good folks and we 1-2 times a week set up RP tournaments. There are also plenty of others that fit all sorts of needs. =)

You can pretty much find RP of all varieties here, walk up RP isn't uncommon nor is RP between FC's LS's etc. And I have not heard of any FC's that refuse to rp with "the lowly folk" outside of their sphere of contacts. If there are any I'd imagine they wouldn't last long.

Indeed. I really hope they don't try and use it as a money sink to offset the folks that have millions in gil when the individual housing becomes available otherwise they really will lock folks out.

I need to think of a reason Gharen would attend this. Hrmm.

Yeah, the starting ring I wasn't privy to, the times that the options pop up are relatively few, It is something I'd wish they'd use more often even if it only changed a tidbit of dialogue.
