Nice to know RP is seen as some kinda retard repelling magic to some of them. Too bad it doesn't work on all. But to be frank, this kind of stuff has been going on since Roleplay hit the gaming world. They think of us as weirdos and we think of them as morons. Despite the vast majority of either being decent people with just a few standouts making a bad name for the rest.

Agreed. Though...one of the first faces you meet in Gridania is a lalafell with a MONACLE. Though both his and his friends voice grate me to no end.

Now that we're in Open Beta, what do you think?

They are adjusting a lot of the game to allow PS3 owners. This means weird controls and the text being reduced to an annoying level. Lag is annoying as a caster. As doing something while casting (like hitting another skill) cancels my cast. I've had points where I thought I had a cast off, but turns out it wasn't out quite yet. Not uncommon as an Australian based player. But if everyone else is feeling it, that's something that will hopefully change. Character creation is a little limited, but enough to get some fun combinations. Just that people tend to sway toward the more popular choices so clones do appear a fair bit. But this is an MMO in any case. Doesn't help everyone is running around in beginner gear to help with the picture that you can't really be unique as you'd hope. But the differences are there, however slight (like height choice). Overall they have the MMO stamp of "Still needs work". But can't think of any MMO that was perfect off the top of my head. Even WoW had to be turned on its head before becoming enjoyable for some. People who played paladins during MC raiding days would know what I mean. Just depends how SE will go around it. But I have faith. Good things now... It's a beautiful game that is freaking huge. RP possibilities are there. Reason I came to this game, probably reason I'll stay if all goes well. Character creation doesn't phase me much since I picked a race that is not popular So all in all I have hopes it will improve like all MMOs tend to. And I hope that I can get a chocobo sometime....I see them and I want! -
Hmm, it is in Limsa. If I remember right it's down around the southern end of the city. There's a gate you have to approach and interact with to get to the docking area of the ferry. It looks like a set of waist high gates with an NPC on each side. One is an entrance, the other an exit.
-
Indeed travel between the cities is possible now. Uldah being 'central' between the two. The walk to Limsa is about 15 odd minutes through the surrounding countryside to get to a boat that takes 8 minutes to sail to Limsa. About a 20 minute walk from Uldah to Gridania. Both of these is just sticking to the roads. Gridania forests are like a maze off the road. I found that each city has different vendors. I've seen some with gear, some with materials for crafting. Think shop types are connected to what guilds are in each city. Can't think of the exact ones off the top of my head.

So. While the servers are down..Your thoughts!

It's hard for me to gauge, as while I am playing beta I am limiting myself so it remains fresh and am pretty much exploring. However... It's a beautiful game that I've only begun to explore. RPing prospects are all there. I mean they give you a freakin' boat ride for 10 minutes to get to Limsa from Uldah. A boat complete with a cabin underneath to relax for the 8 odd minutes your sailing. While a silly travel system compared to other MMOs. The RP prospect is priceless. They even have meeting places set up and nice big empty areas! Game wise. I think it'll be enjoyed more with the friends I've made in BF. Rather than strangely named people who are all over the Open beta right now. -
The guards in Gridania wear what looks like a mask that just covers their eyes like a masquerade ball one.

I've never played IX, I see the appeal of the giant city of Lindblum. But Besaid is still my favorite.
-
The Hellsguard apparently pursue other things apart from strength. They supposably have a Monastic side so they have a higher int/mind/piety then the Seawolves.
-
Ah, so there IS some starting difference. Was thinking they removed all that and just had race choice for asthetics. Luckily my choice of hellguard does come with some Int and stuff to make the caster I want.

Well, usually for competitive reasons the underdog is downplayed and such which makes it fun. This game isn't PvP (yet). My choice is to vary the type of RP people experience by having someone different around. I'm not gonna be the only big red guy I'm sure. I do like the Roegadyn, and it was a tough choice between that and a lalafell. In Aion I picked Elyos the underdog at the time. Yet I made a big old man rather than a young individual like the majority of the population just for the RP variance.
-
I chose Roegadyn since they have an intensity I like. Plus I like playing the least played races >.>

I'm curious if it's possible to download the beta client before getting a key for it. I'm sure to apply to the Open beta when it starts, just don't want to have to download the entire thing for 12 hours before I can use it (that's IF I get in anyway)

It'd be difficult but they will probably find a way to annoy people. Like maybe camp a lowbie zone with high levels killing everything or some other thing. As RPers they will probably single us out and go outta their way to disrupt things. Also, behold the Judge! thingy, vampire? courtousy of someone with a model viewer.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if we fight an empire based off the FFXII one complete with it's 'Generals' being Judges commanding airships and the like. Would be kinda cool. And yeah, been following the Goon squad for a while. Afraid there might be spies among our forum >.> since they take so much pleasure in being what they are. Along with our declaration of existance on a public FFXIV forum there's bound to be a bunch who know what we plan.

I zoomed through your Deviant profile. Awesome stuff!
-
The guy at the end indeed looked like a Final Fantasy Judge. Curious indeed.
-
No, maybe, secrets, apparently not, no clue, hope so, hope so, probably not since we will be at release date most likely.

Amazing, might commision you when the game launches to do a portrait of my character. Which would be a first for me but I really admire your work.

Mine was Recommended: Intel Core i7 (2.66 GHz) or faster You Have: IntelĀ® Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.80GHz RAM Recommended: 4 GB You Have: 6.0 GB OS Recommended: Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit You Have: Microsoft Windows 7 (build 7600), 64-bit Video Card Recommended: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 with 768 MB VRAM or equivalent You Have: NVxx (I have 2 NVIDIA Geforce GTS250 so don't know what happened there) Features: Recommended attributes of your Video Card Required You Have Video RAM 768 MB 3.7 GB Hardware T&L Yes Yes Pixel Shader version 4.0 4.0 Vertex Shader version 4.0 4.0 And basically the rest a pass, just failed on the Video card for this strange reason as well. Think it just may have trouble scanning some things I'm not sure. EDIT: Just did a bit of searching, it does this quite a lot sometimes when it just doesn't recognise a brand and says it needs an upgrade even if you have more then the recommended. So, maybe take it with a pinch of salt?

Whatever we vote on I hope that the 'other' population of FFXIV will not get in an uproar over it... What am I saying, yeah they will probably will.

Gah, still invite only too. Damn you deceiving title! the door is open but the Roegadyn bouncer is still glaring at my sneakers!!

If I get in the feel of it I write an in-character 'journal' throughout my game time on a blog. Styled as a diary of my current characters daily observations and stuff like that.
