I fixed this for you. On a technical note, Godzilla doesn't really do things with intent. CN implies acting to create chaos intentionally, and doing so for the sake inciting of chaos. Godzilla simply acts, making him more True Neutral. Chaos just happens around him as a result of the fact he's a giant nuclear dinosaur.

    Books!

Oh no, I understand what the OP's intent and meaning was, I just chose to take that line out of context and highlight it because I've a long history with the series. I've always been very involved with TES community and was involved with several projects of a similar nature to this for both Morrowind and Oblivion. Skyrim and its community are garbage though. It's part nostalgic and part excitement on my end. I didn't mean to project that onto anyone else or try to derail anything. It was just some well intentioned suggestions I threw together, based on my own meandering thought process.

    Books!

A lot happened to this thread since the OP, which was the last I read of it. I poped in and got pretty hung up over the line: I'm not expecting anything on the level of The Elder Scrolls here And I was like... why not? The Elder Scrolls had some of the greatest flavor in any RPG. Why not aspire to that level of thoroughness? There were hundreds of publications each with their own unique flavor and spin on the world. Why not make something like that? So, I grabbed a list of about 500 book titles, then set about modifying and reworking them in accordance with Eorzean lore, as a sort of 'pet project'. Some of them are blatantly ripped off, some not, though I'd prefer to think of them as loving tributes or clever references rather than 'rip offs' of any series, real or fake. I tried to touch on a broad range of lore ranging from medical to mythical, hard lore and folktales, short stories, cultural tributes, weaving many different races, perspectives, and locations into the whole thing as possible. I especially tried to highlight little known or obscure lore, some background flavor for dungeons and enemies, and a few popular player theories (just because something is a book doesn't make it true!) There are a lot of points I didn't get around to addressing, and a lot of lore I simply do not know and am not aware of, so I didn't handle it. What follows is a proposed list of titles and short summations of proposed content. I personally wash my hands of it and put this list out there to be perused, picked apart, altered, changed, or lambasted as the community sees fit. If you want to do anything with it at all, permission is yours to do what you will.
  4. Why would you gather all of the people with a niche interest in one place? Also, designated RP servers are awful. Player supported ones at least have the backings of a community whom you know have a similar interest, rather than a free for all of trolls, PVP elitists, and unorganized, uncollaborative jerks.
  5. I honestly don't even bother with IVs. Breeding for moves and natures and having to EV train right after is already too much work for me, though I respect the people who put in that extra effort. I did it for a team. Once. Never again...

    Balance

You know, Good and Bad are same sides of a different coin. I like the traditional nine alignments as much as anyone, but there's a distinct lack of realism in defining a set of traits and saying 'now all you are bad guys'. Well written villains hardly think that they are the bad guy. Moral ambiguity is a big part of writing personality in a realistic way. What's your good is not my good, etc. Everyone always thinks that what they are doing is 'good' in the sense that it is right. I opted to play a character who was firmly grounded in neutrality, to a fault even. He wouldn't raise a weapon against your cause, but he won't rally for it either. And while that seems fine in concept, it goes as far that he's apt to sit at the sidelines and watch your village be burned to the ground by beastmen for lack of a desire to get involved in the City-State's conflicts. His actions, or inaction, could be perceived by some as 'bad' or even 'evil' because he's not furthering their agenda. He'd not a mustache twirling menace, tying ladies to train tracks and going on long expositional rants about unmaking the world. He just wants to study in peace... And if you and your people are wiped out all around him, that's just how it was meant to be. Who is he to stand against fate? HOWEVER, even going on about neutrality and ambiguity and realism, I do think campy evil characters are fun. It's a completely different style, and playing it well is another matter entirely. It's a matter of being clever and genre savvy, but they are some of the best to interact with if you abhor tedium and love mischief. TL;DR -- This is how I Evil tWYCS6k1IOA
  7. Super training just replaces having to grind on low level Pokemon to up your stats one point at a time. It is not necessary to EV train for normal game play. The difference in having optimal EVs 63 points in a stat. It's a lot when you're min/maxing, but if you're going to do that you may as well be chain breeding for the best possible combo of IVs, Natures, Abilities, and Egg Moves, a grueling process when done legitimately that takes days.... for a single Pokemon. That's why all tournaments are full of hacks. It's a real problem.
  8. It's all about taste, that point's been beaten into the ground. I personally abhor a crowd. More than five people and I become uncomfortable. I like goal oriented things, casual or storyline based is relative. Even resting by the riverside needs a reason and some context for me to get into it. It's not like planning out every single event and storyboarding a whole plotline, it's just giving some believability and logic to the scenario. It's why you don't find me idling in bars doing nothing. There's no 'ends' to general tavern RP. It's like cotton candy... a lot of fluff and no substance. If I show up, I'm looking for someone, doing something, progressing towards some ends in some quantifiable way. Without that context I find it often devolves into boring discussion akin to discussing the weather IRL. In which case I'm quick to abscond! And while I'm against the concept of Private RP, I don't like being in 'hubs' as it were. It's not a lack of desire to interact with people or isolate myself. It's just a sort of claustrophobia that comes with hanging around areas with quest givers. There's also so much pretty open world out there to inhabit. Sticking to cities and bars seems like a crime with the wealth of interesting locals we have to play with.
  9. The inspiration, like I said, was a guild I'd formerly been a part of, and I'd put a lot of thought into how I would transplant those ideas and experiences before I even brought it up. Much of this I've already done, already tested, and already worked out. But a lot of the things I want to incorporate are things that I've heard a demand for from this very community. More facilitation of public RP, more story lines, more openness, more adventure and action, less sitting around in taverns waiting for things to happen, and less over centralization of the community. I sunk a lot of time into quietly ruminating over how I would try to put it all together and make it all work. Because that's the kind of vision I can get behind. A real, dedicated, community wide liaison for everyone. I've got a lot of plans, a lot of ideas, and a lot of passion for my projects... unfortuantely, it doesn't appear most others care for passion and ambition as much as practicality or simplicity. I wanted to go as broad as possible, while still maintaining a tight concept. Everyone gets letters. Beyond that, the varied nature of a society implies the need for an innumerable number of services and contacts. I wanted to completely abolish the concept of people saying 'I would, but this doesn't fit my character'. No matter what you bring to the table, there will be a way to work with it and involve you with the story to whatever depth or degree you desire. Not everyone has to be a deeply involved super spy or anything of the sort. It's layers of secrets and services that you can pick and chose from, or leave the whole thing at face value. It's the story you want to make of it. A lot of people are still lost when it comes to breaking into the scene. More people simply feel like the opinions available don't cater to there tastes, or are too insular to break into. And I can relate to that. As welcoming and abiding as some people are others, especially the leaders of larger groups, can be right tossers. I'd like for this to be an 'in' so to speak. A way to diversify everyone's contacts and exposure to many different groups. Perhaps it's all a bit over ambitious. I've got nice sentiments, but not the kind of response I'd hoped for. There's a lot of work that'd need to be done to set everything up to get the full, intended experience. It's not going to be another 'plug and play' half-baked idea that can afford to be indecisive or indirect. I want to make a vision that impacts a community... and I just can't justify sinking the kinda time it would need, and the time I would want to give, into a project for two or three people who may or may not show up. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the sentiments from those that bothered, I really do. It easily made my day. But the comparatively overwhelming indifference is discouraging to say the least.
  10. The difference between a Nuhn in a Tia is strictly the title. Nuhn means breeding male of a tribe, and a Tia is everyone else. The Nuhn is singled out as having superior breeding stock because reasons. Anything saying the Nuhn is the only sexually active male is speculation. There isn't a definitive rule explicitly stating that there isn't any copulation outside of Nuhn's and their mates. Even if there was, it'd impossible to say beyond a shadow of a doubt that every member of the entire species always respects this one rule. It's simply an indicator of 'ladies, this guy is going to have the best babies.' They are culturally desirable because they'll produce strong offspring that will survive the harsh conditions in which the tribal society functions. And even then, what we know of Miqo'te culture is limited to what Square has said explicitly, which often doesn't hold up with in game examples on many other fronts. The single observable, complete tribe you can interact with flys completely in the face of Square's own rules. So it's safe to make an assumption that all tribes are different, have different rules, and different values. There's not a singular, default 'top cat' definition for a whole race of people. It's all conditioning that'll vary from tribe to tribe and even branch to branch, maybe even from individual to individual in the group. A Miqo'te that has never experienced any of this conditioning will most likely lack the same motivation to adhere to it, much less even be aware of a distant culture's expectations of him.

  12. Truly Titan is a sage of profound wisdom Eorzea was simply not prepared for.
  13. Barkspawn, hahaha, nice. I'll treasure him.
  14. My FC was on the front page, silly~ For your convenience though: 0146-8807-2738 And we were just collaborating on getting your starters, since I already had some on hand it was less Jana needed to make. I've just been releasing my extras into Wonder Trade otherwise, haha. Edit: Oh, also breeding Tyrunts, in case you're lame and didn't pick him.
  15. I'll check also and see if the day care center gave it to me when I gave Slyveon to make eggs and I didn't notice. <- Not noticing a lot of things about the game atm like how style works.. Training pokes.. etc. Edit: So apparently.. You CAN breed starters.. Well then... WELL THEN. -cough- K'dath.. S'janna.. Would you like to give me starters? ^^ I have only Chespin, Squirtle and Torchic atm. I have some level one Charmander on my person, if you see fit to be online. Currently have Frogie in the DC if you want to get those to Ale I can do the Fennekin and Bulbasaur then. I already have a spare Fennekin sitting anyhow I'd relieve you of a Fennek, you know, if you had extras~ I don't really have anything interesting besides starters and houndours though.

  17. I spent most of today playing 'Wondershuffle'. Wonder Trades are horribly addictive. Never know what you're gonna get, always spurred on by the chance to 'trade up'. I got a Japanese Ditto earlier and I've been cranking out Squirtles in hopes I'll get a shiny one. I've been turning them loose in Wonder Trade, hopefully making it a less crappy place with all the Bunnelby and Weedle, but if anyone wants one (or Froakie, Chespin, Charmander, Bulbasaur or Torchic) I can make'em! Still need a Fenniken.
  18. I don't know how it happened, after choosing to start with Froakie and picking Bulbasaur as my second starter, but this is the team I've gravitated towards... I don't even like fire types...
  19. The pacing in this game is so bizarre. I've got third stage starters before I've even got my third badge @.@ I spent pretty much all day at the hospital and left my 3DS at home like an idiot, so I'm playing catch up, haha.
  20. K'dath, you ambitious, handsome stallion, what is this cunning plan you've brought forth today? I wanted to make a pitch to the community for an idea I'd had before overly investing any effort into it, just to be disappointed by a lack of turn out, and cluttering up the LS hall with another concept that'll lack proper execution. I've been dwelling on my time as the guildmaster guy who isn't the guildmaster but organizes everything because the atual guildmaster is a lazy tosser for a small roleplay guild on WoW. It was a brief endeavor, but wildly fun, and I'd like to recapture a bit of that. I've thought about it very carefully over the past week or so and tried to articulate my thoughts into something that I think would be an excellent concept with intention and planning beyond just the central theme. The pitch itself: For all intents and purposes, a normal courier company. They are of little open renown and rarely handle missives or parcels of an interesting nature. They are the lightest on their feet of any postmen though, and will often harken into dangerous areas where more cautious men would flee. Along with their peculiar reputation of moving effortlessly through territory which should be rife with conflict, they are known in the specif circles which require such discretion to deliver to clients that are not normally accessible by common post... Yes, a normal and effective post service that courts the hands of less reputable men is nothing new. But beneath a rather typical veneer there lies a secret order who traffics in goods and services not available by anyone else in their niche. The society is old, harkening back to a time when the Ixal still rightly called the Twelvewood home and Hyur clashed with Elezen in bloody war. The society were of each the races, skilled in the weaving of arcane mist, and subjugated it to their will in a time when no one knew these arts. Using this lost understanding of magic the moved through enemy lines as effortlessly as the wind. They worked in compliment to subterfuge rather than directly, and brokered in secrets that would turn the tide of history. Since those ages the Breath of Garuda* have fallen from the history pages. No longer are hushed tales whispered of magical spies as transient as the air itself. They have buried themselves for want not to draw attention to their unknown ends. But they are among you, watching you. They know your secrets. And you'll know when they've come for your when you receive the letter baring this mark: (Pretend there's a real impressive symbol here, I'm working on it) You write a very convincing speech, my eloquent friend. So what am I to do with this pitch? Give your feedback, of course. There currently is no linkshell, no organization, and no one else the idea has been presented to. This right here is the foundation, and if nothing comes of it nothing will happen. Simple as that. Your ideas and insights are appreciated. K'dath your idea is amazing! But what do you hope to accomplish with this? I want to have an organized, effective, story-action oriented RP society with a loose enough basis that anyone would be able to participate in the way that best serves them, with a narrow enough focus to have a progressive meta-story. A for-profit guild firmly grounded in neutrality that is not a 'hack 'n slash' mercenary guild, but rather a more passive, interactive element that can add to immersion of its members and other players. I wanted to extend a hand to those who have felt neglected or excluded from exclusive or overly-narrow focused Linkshells, and provide an excellent standard of role play in a non-hostile environment. I want to foster a certain style of role play that involves getting out into the world and including others, regardless of their character/character's affiliations. Everyone gets letters. Let's say you do go through with this, as your ideas are as perfect as you are charming. How can I willingly indenture myself to your cause? Let's start here with what I bring to the table; Officer Experience Creative Planning Minor Organizational Skills Minor Lore Knowledge What would establish the good foundation this project needs to get off the ground is someone who is more decisive and organized to help put a lot of the concepts and ideas into an achievable perspective instead of just my inane ramblings. Someone better acquainted with lore to help clean up the back story and assist in writing further storyline. Idea people to come up with smaller quests and missions I would like to implement to encourage RP in places that are out of the way or normally do not see as much. Even if you couldn't see yourself being affiliated with the company or society therein, you can always offer yourself as a non-affiliated contact! I'd like to collaborate with leaders of other Linkshells and see about interweaving storylines, at their discretion and as it suits them, as our nature is to be flexible. Something as simple a delivering an important missive to a mercenary force on the front lines, to an elaborate arc involving a noble house employing the 'seedier' aspect of the society to uncover secrets someone would not want known. Other than that, we need bodies! You can't have a secret society of magical postmen without people! People to deliver letters, people to receive them, people who are covering up awful secrets, people who want those secrets uncovered, people who want those people dead, and people to facilitate their death. (I would like to stress it is not an assassination/criminal organization guild and that is not the concept. We don't kill people, we just... might conveniently let someone who wants a party dead know where they'll be sleeping tonight. The blood is distinctly off our hands.) Truth be told, I am not a guildmaster and I am terrible at running things. I know this about myself because I have done it many times before. I would like someone with as much ambition and drive as I have to assist in holding the reigns and bring a bit of order to the chaos that is me. All that said, I welcome any response on the matter, be it interest, scathing critique, or grotesquely over the top compliments about how suave I am. You can post here, or if you're uncomfortable spewing fort your opinions, contact me through forum's private messaging, or even grab me in game! My usual playtime range is between 12am-12pm CST (that's 1-1 for you EST weirdos) but I'm usually logged in if I'm at home and awake, even if I'm not actually playing. Oh, and also, don't name drop your linkshell in this thread. I'll consider it really fucking rude to advertise your project on my space. I didn't crash your thread to spam up about mine. Thank you for your cooperation~ *The name was sorta come up on the spot as I was writing all this out, a bit of an homage to the guild which sired the idea; 'The Ravenlord's Herald' . It's totally subject to change.
  21. I have X! In fact, everyone in my town has X, because no one told the local Walmart there was a Y. Or maybe they just hate Ys. It is a pretty ass backwards town. I'm always up for a battle though. I haven't been connected to the internet because it chugs my battery and I've just been grinding a lot >>; Also, you have no idea what I had to go through to get that image. Go ahead, google Miltank, check out that image search. It's horrifying.

    Woop woop!

It's a personal taste, but I usually work off a very loose concept with 'a hook' more or less. It might be something as simple as a word or a phrase that just clicks, and I suddenly know I want to write a character built on that. I think of a few defining traits that go with the theme, and then build out from there. It's better to start with a light, flexible framework and then add the details in as you go, like a drawing! Example, a brown haired, blue eyed human could fit in literally any setting ever. You can't go wrong there. Now we plug him into this setting and say 'Well, I like the way Paladin looks as far as gameplay goes, I think I'll make that!'. So we slap some armor on him and give him a sword. Maybe you want to attach a certain significance to his armor or weapons. They could be old relics, handmedowns from a long line of a proud gladiator tradition passed from father to son. Maybe they're shiny and new, top of the line, showing that he's a person of wealth and stature. Dented and dull armor means a seasoned fighter, pretty and polished means you've likely never set foot on a battlefield before. Thinking about something as simple as that opens up all sorts of interesting ideas. I usually play mix 'n match with different concepts and thoughts until I come up with one I like. He's a tattered war veteran that escaped the Battle of Carteneau by the skin of his teeth. He hasn't seen fit to wear the armor since then, it's fallen into a state of rust and disrepair. His ability to heft a sword has waned in the years eking out a meager existence as a farmhand. He was getting over it all, putting it behind him. Then everything changed when The Fire Nation the Amalj'aa and the Lord of the Inferno attacked... That's a vague 'sketch' of the character I have in my head. I think about places in game, people I've seen, and events that come to pass, and I fill them in bit by bit the ones I want to matter most. I cut out what I don't need or want, change things around to fit. I know that Paladins are the royal guards of Ul'dah, so I can choose to work that into his backstory. I decide he's going to be blonde instead of brunette or he's going to be an Elezen instead. Maybe I don't want the responsibility of tanking, so I decide to go with a Lancer to start with (You can always change classes later without rerolling! so if you decide you don't like something, you can drop it and never deal with it again!) I think about the big picture and what I want to be staring at for the long haul. And I go from there, taking the very broad outline and adding in the finer parts. Where is he from, where has he been, what has he done. What he believes, what he's capable of, how he feels about...well, everything. I try to keep a central theme in mind, holding onto those few prominent character traits and building off them. Tie it all together in a good, cohesive character that has a personality as vibrant and real as anyone else's. Little details, not huge garish ones, are what sets a character apart. I can go on and on about my own extremely disorganized process, but ultimately you need to find out what works for you. Inspire yourself and look for ideas in places you wouldn't expect them. You'll be surprised what might occur to you! Nothing is ever perfect, and you'll find yourself constantly refining things as you go. And you might come up with something, play for a while and then inspiration hits you. And that's okay too! I was playing for a couple of weeks with my somewhat broody Scholar when I realized I was not happy with several things about him and also I was totally jealous of the summoner's pets, which were way cooler than mine. I had a hard time nailing it down, but it didn't feel right. So I threw the whole thing out and started over from the ground up, this time keeping in mind what I'd already learned from my first run. Refined, reedited, and I had a character that was a bit more lax, a bit less naive, and overall much more fun for me to play, in character and out of character. Just have fun. Experiment. Challenge yourself. Get invested. There's a whole big world out there, and your creation is going to go play a part in it.
  23. I totally thought I responded to this and I totally didn't. Meth Pokemon is a hell of a drug. Like I said, bother at will. I've burnt out on the story again now that I've murdered the face off another god. Since going on temporary hiatus from dinity laying I've been known to go sit around Wineport making faces at people.

    Woop woop!

You don't really need any background in Final Fantasy to enjoy it. Each game is a self contained story/universe with unique rules. Even a lot of FF14 1.x lore is rarely if ever referenced in ARR. As for what you have to read, background on your race and class are good places to start. Using my own as an example: Miqo'te Miqo'te Naming Conventions Summoner Obviously, you'd wanna brush up on whatever yours are instead, but that'll send you to the right place. It'll give you a general idea of the fluff behind what you're playing. There some background on how the different races live, what their cultures are like. Very little of it goes into deep detail, which is good and bad. It leaves us with a lack of definite answers in a lot aspects. With role players though, that's where your imagination comes in! For example, the exact nature of the Miqo'te tribes isn't heavily elaborated on. In the game there's few observable tribes that all seem to behave by different rules. So if you wanted your character to be Miqo'te from the X tribe you can, for lack of a more eloquent way to put it, make shit up. There's the Official Lore Forum the if you want to peruse it. Honestly though, you won't find too awful much of passing interest. There's our own General Lore Questions thread where you can throw out specific questions or read up on other shenanigans. There are also a myraid of other fan sites, youtube channels, and discussion boards that have smatterings of info. Google helps. Your best bet is usually to ask someone though. And when all else fails, look to the game! It's generally the best source, even if it is woefully inconsistent on some aspects. Slogging through the story mode and reading the quest text doesn't take too long, and then you have the knowledge firsthand. How to Role Play is a completely subjective matter, one you'll often find people here debating about frequently. It's as simple as playing pretend! You make up your character and interact with the world and other people as if you were them. You might elect to play a gruff, weathered mercenary who doesn't talk much. Or maybe a Lalafell that speaks in limericks? You can draw from the background of your race, your class, or your homeland to help come up with ideas that fit within the established lore. There's no right or wrong way to go about it. And if someone tells you that you are, tell them to go to hell. It's a game. And games are fun. I know the reason I left competitive gaming was because people seemed to have forgotten that fact. The only way to play wrong is to not be having fun. As for our community, I'm fairly certain we've got a decent European population here. Most of the players in game I find myself hanging around certainly are. We're not snooty like the European servers who won't let Americans play~ I wouldn't consider myself an authority on anything pertaining to lore, but I'm relatively old as far as role players go. You're free to pester me at will, I'm usually around and rarely doing anything.
