1. Looking at the end results, I can't help but feeling a bit of racial guilt. Also, confirmed my suspicions about the median player age being much higher than usual.
2. It's cool to see SOMEONE'S excited. Everyone I've tried to talk to about it has looked at me like I'm an idiot for being a grown ass man and still playing Pokemon. I think it's a lovely series and has completely accomplished what it was set out to do, which is bring people together. It's spanned not just the world wide but also through time, so you have kids now playing with parents who played when they were kids. It's simple, but engaging. I'm always excited for the latest version. I haven't followed the up-to-the-minute news on it since E3, personally, because I wanted to play it with no expectations and find out all the cool new stuff on my own.
3. I had a pet male human once. He was decidedly not the cleanest one. The cat was polite enough to cover its mess, not brag about its size.
4. I don't even need a bulge slider. All I want is, you know, just a nod from the character model to confirm the difference between male and female isn't just 'boobs' and 'boobs lite'.
5. But quantity and quality aren't mutually exclusive things. As an altaholic, I always find RPing multiple characters as helping me to better shape an understanding of the world lore, as you have to approach situations in different manners, and that they have more variety. RPing alts also helps to relieve burnout, if that is an issue for any folk (I know that it can be for me). I find that I have to switch it up and play different characters to keep things fresh. Playing many characters doesn't mean that they don't/can't be developed to deep extents, but it does keep your options to explore themes of a much greater depth and breadth. This. I actually enjoy playing characters of a wide variety of shapes and personality types. I especially love designing characters that are diametric opposites and putting them in similar situations. They all have their own deep, developed storylines, some eventually converge in interesting ways, and it compliments the playability between all of them. I have eight role play characters on WoW, six of which are max leveled and well geared, all well written (well, in my opinion). There's a unique story line for each one, and a sort of 'meta story' between all my characters. I rotate between them based on what I am in the mood to play, and because of the converging storylines I have more opportunities to interact with people outside of what is necessarily 'normal' for any one character. I already scrapped one character concept for XIV, but I like the one I have now. Youthful, excitable, chaotic Miqo'te lad. But I'll get bored or burnt out one day, probably sooner than later, and I'll want to do something completely different. Maybe an old, stoic Roe Paladin? ...but I really should settle one character concept before I start planning another. Or, you know, I'll end up with eight again.
6. This. I like Roe, but the reasons they're rarely played, especially among RPers, are rather obvious. I wish I could make a lady Roe. There are so many gorgeous ones I've seen! However, it's an archetype I wouldn't be comfortable RPing, so I haven't made one. (Actually, I did have one in beta--I just didn't keep her around). It's funny, I see a lot of people criticising female roegadyn for being rather curvy and thickly built and yet...a very large portion of the other race's females are being drawn and described in the exact same way. Though given how oversexualised most characters tend to be, I'm not surprised. I criticize female Roegadyn for having no butts. At. All. None. Take all your Roegadame's clothes off and turn her sideways. See what I mean? Even so they're still a lot more sexualised than male characters tend to be. It's rare to find male character models with a bulge in their underwear, even if it'd be realistic to see one. I'm getting a little tired of the 'Action Man' style anatomy in MMO's. OHGODTHIS. Completely independent of sexual interests, it just looks wrong to have these Barbie-doll crotches on all the men. Especially Roe guys. Have you seen one of them in the summer wear thong? I have. It's borderline disturbing and for the completely wrong reason!
7. This. While I can see the angle you're coming from and relate to that frustration, buying the whole game over again is basically paying for two months worth of time and getting one. Meanwhile your compromised account it sitting there with all your stuff. No one likes wrestling with customer support. It's frustrating. It's a head ache. But it's a day of chewing out some poor CS compared to setting $15 on fire and losing your character.
8. I don't know if I'd want to cast K'dath as a 'villain' per se. At least not your traditional sorts. He is just very goal oriented! His means, while unorthodox, aren't particularly malicious. His ends are... questionable.
9. I also think it might be easier to criticize voice actors of your native tongue, because you're familiar with the words in and of themselves. Each word and how it is articulated are subject to scrutiny. Someone might not have a terrible voice, per se, but the delivery kills whatever sort of emotion it sought to evoke. With non-native languages where your exposure is limited, you're working from the general voice and not the subject matter. I don't know enough Japanese to listen closely and analyze the delivery of every word. I just know that the Japanese Kan-E sounds smooth and serene. Compared to the English where it sounds as though she pauses too long or says something too slow, and instead of sounding calm it just sounds bored. I guess that's why I'm sort of middle of the road with aforementioned german dub. I understand it with less clarity than English but I'm able to make judgments on the contents of the delivery. Compared to the Japanese voices where, as long as they sounded calm, they could be telling me to go to hell and I'd nod and say "She sounds very pleasant, I like her." But yeah. The lip synching is like... unforgivably terribad. No matter what language you have it on. I don't think they were even trying.
10. Oi, I can empathize with that. I got a lucky break and pawned a few sketches last weekend, so I've got the cash sitting on a nice little envelope to go take to the bank an hour before I run out of time, because I am forgetful... Good luck with your endeavors. I know plenty of people who'd pay a nice dime for quality cute.
11. I was thinking about it and I was like "some sort of bird... maybe a parrot? Nah, too loud. Maybe a chicken, they're delightfully clever... nah. Most people don't think of them as being very smart though." Then I noticed people posting about the zodiac and checked out the Rooster Rooster people are very observant. And most of the time, they are veryaccurate and precise with their observation. Perhaps, you can say that Roosters have a very keen "sixth-sense". With Roosters, what you see is exactly what you get. There are no hidden depths to the Rooster's character: he is neither complicated nor profound, rather, he is very forthright and straightforward. Though sharp, practical and resourceful, the Rooster also likes todream. And because he likes to dream, he will disappointed the loved one, for the reality will never match up to the dreams he would like to share. Although he really is sincere about those dreams. Perfect.
12. My experience in playing on 'designated' RP servers is: "These guys are a bunch of make believer faeries.... let's move our SUPER COMPETITIVE HARD CORE guild to their server so we get top ranked/world firsts." And when not telling everyone how bad they are in BGs, these guys hang out in trade and troll/shame RPers left and right. And that's about it. There are more degenerates getting hung up over PvP on Moon Guard than there are on Illidan. And Illidan is legendary for its PVP 'community' it so graciously shares with us.
13. Sorry I missed out on the end love. I ended up getting drunk in voice chat and something about cutting the nipples off every pirate in Limsa was said... it's all kinda fuzzy now. I may need to inexplicably decide to pick up a non-caster class for next time though :love: (Or come up with some book-based martial arts)
14. Since I've been re-playing through the early levels and have had to suffer through some of the cut scenes again I've actually switched the VO language to German. Which I understand on a fluent level, but am awful at communicating. And I'm having the same sort of 'eh' reactions to a lot of the voices. Like Papalymo? WAY more tolerable in German. He actually sounds like a funny sort of annoying instead of just... ohgodwhy annoying. Yda? Maybe because I'm accustomed to the amount of DERP coming from the English voice actress, but she just didn't sound right. Y'sholta I kinda wasn't sure how to feel, because she was one of the ones I didn't overly mind in English and I missed her cheery British accent. And Raubahn? I just... I would recommend go rolling a new character on some throw away server and re-leveling just to hear his German voice acting. I can't even really give you an opinion, you just gotta hear it... I think the voice acting in this game is just internationally 'meh' Also, we have voices for random people yelling in the background for the memorial services... and why don't the respective leaders of the Adventure's Guild branches have voice acting!? Those are the first important characters you meet in the game! I am shocked and offended they didn't think Baderon Tenfingers was important enough to voice. And I am doubly offended he isn't voiced by Tom Kenny. Simply unacceptable Square. I ALWAYS read all of Baderon's dialogue in my head with a 'Patchy the Pirate' voice ;;
15. I think that sold me on giving it another try. I will report back with results.
16. I showed up for a little while, haha. I'd only woken up about ten minutes before it all started and my poor brain couldn't handle the rapid chat scrolling till I had some coffee, so I was mostly just watching quietly like a creeper.
17. This is the third time I have been completely thrown off by Eastern time zones! The first time I figured it out before being two hours late though.
18. Yeah, I was having a hard time with my raiding guild on Illidan, so I kinda gave them all a virtual bird and stormed off to an RP server to play Alliance just to spite them. I bum-rushed a Worgen Druid to level 90, maxed Inscription, and RP'd him as a letter-carrier. Then after like, a week I realized I just couldn't play Alliance side. I just couldn't get over my constant urge to kill everything I saw... So, two weeks of my life just pfft, out the door... which is basically how much time I've invested into FF14 so far.
19. There's no reason not to maintain characters on both servers. Even with an entry level account you can have a total of 8 characters, one per server. I'd advocate trying both out, but I wouldn't let the fact that Balmung appears more populous sway your opinion. You really can't go wrong between the two. THEN AGAIN I am on Balmung. As if that weren't reason enough, right? I actually maintain characters on Balmung, Gilgamesh, and Odin and play them all relatively equally. Ahaha, you don't have to talk to me about re-rolling in WoW. I've trashed things that are level 88 because "Nah, I'm bored with this character concept." But I've DONE all the WoW content before. It is done. It is completed, 100%. I can run a new character 1-90 in less than a week if I so chose, and I have, with the same sort of auto-pilot function I use to drive to the sandwich shop. I just sorta blink and it's done :b I've only ever purchased one race change, because the character himself had some rare, difficult to obtain items. This was a decision I almost immediately regretted and every time I log onto him think "That was stupid. I could have just made a different one."
20. Oh no, I didn't mean to imply that it was! Sorry if it came off as projecting, I know the difference between two. The implications just made me kinda uncomfortable, weird as that is to say. It was just the heavy, foreboding sense of "You really shouldn't be watching this." I suppose it just seemed kinda voyeuristic to me. That's not to imply it's not good! I'm sure it's fantastic. I've been told the source material is really solid. I just can't get over that 'creepy old guy' feeling watching it though. I've never been that way about any anime before, even other 'high school' settings type ones. I guess because they're young boys who have been sort of gratuitously sexualized and I'm officially in the age bracket where 'boy watching' IRL would get me put in jail for many years.
21. The name is actually worse than the appearance. I was just bothered by the fact that the shake of hair I picked originally looked more natural in the character creator, but after running around Limsa in the glaring sunlight all the time it looked too... way over-bleached. I wanted him to be distinctly blond, but in the direct sunlight in Limsa its just this horrible glaring white mess. I've also been second guessing his eye color. I love heterochromatic eyes, and I was excited that this wasn't just something I could do, but fit into Miqo'te lore! But The mix I went with was sorta jarring I think. Light Green/Dark Yellow thinking of traditional cat eye colors. But the worst is the name. Because people truncate it as X. Which is pronounced 'she'. Now... let's pretend we're all sitting in Ventrillo doing dungeons with your guildies... And for kicks, half of the party are girls. It's confusing and frustrating and totally emasculating ;;
22. I gotta be honest. While I'm a pretty fabulous individual, Free! Iwatobi Swim Club makes me feel a little uncomfortable... I watched a few episodes, but I got this unsettling feeling like there's a government van outside my house getting ready to take me away. So I stopped. I wonder if straight guys feel that way when watching every other anime ever? :b
23. That's a WHOLE DIFFERENT debate you're opening up there. And one that I've learned simply to never engage in under any circumstance. However... This is only pertaining to the use of swear words that the game itself uses and the type of suggestive themes featured. The debate is 'is it okay for people to be offended when I say it if the game says it'. No one is defending legitimately terrible behavior.
24. This is probably not 'appropriate' but seeing as it isn't explicit I thought I would share it, since it amused me. One of my best friends is JET who recently got back to the States. She asked me if I wanted some manga she had acquired while over there since they reminded her of me and she didn't have room for all her stuff in her new apartment. I haven't really read any manga in a while sans Pokemon Special don't you fucking judge me so I was like, whatever, sure. I got the package today... She sent me a box of gay porn...
