Oh god. Don't take me back to that place man. I've seen some things in my time. Sorry! I had several different metaphors in mind, but that just seemed the most apt. I apologize for any traumatic experiences I may have unintentionally caused you to remember. If it helps, watch this and let the randomness make you laugh until you forget about it. aZBsPSiS__U I think it tends to depend on what side you were playing on and where you frequented, along with what circles you went to. Honestly, I had a TON of friends that I played with and, quite honestly, thoroughly miss from Moon Guard. I'd give anything to find them again ;-; I rather miss many friends I had there as well, players from both sides that were not only fun to RP with, but just plain great friends to have known. I've kept in contact with a couple, but the others pretty much disappeared for one reason or another (ranging from intending to take a break for a month and never coming back to some just suddenly never coming back, while others disappeared online entirely and their IM and email accounts sit untouched or expired). We tried our best to avoid "that stuff", but it really was hard to miss in certain areas and at certain times. My BE Hunter practically avoided the BE area except to tame a certain pet (and snag the non-combat pets back in the days before the combat pet system made owning more than one per account pretty pointless) and to do a few quests.

I used to love those movies BECAUSE they were so awful. In fact, it spawned a current tradition with my now teenage goddaughter and I. Every weekend, we watch two AWFUL movies that are trying to be serious/scary/etc. and pretty much MST3K them.

Don't feel too badly. A lot of us that have been in similar situations have equally strong feelings against certain types, and even quality RP of those types can still not be enough to wash away the feelings formed by bad examples. When I joined Star Wars Galaxies (within the first 6 months after launch), I would instantly flinch at the mention of slavery because in my experience up until that point, slavery RP was most often equal to something akin to bad romance novels or Moon Guard tavern orgies. Nevermind the fact I knew there was slavery within the Star Wars lore, nevermind that a majority of these people were not playing the kind or RP that I had seen so heavily before. Even after getting involved in some very engaging RP with these people (both slaves and owners alike), I still to this day have to stop myself from twitching at the mention of slavery RP because what I saw before is so burned into my memory.

I tried to find something awesome and fitting, maybe some metal song with a good beat and lyrics that worked. Instead I had to be honest and I came up with this. B_RNAoBlUIo The really sad thing is the imagery of this video helps cement just how weird Ali is too. I feel so ashamed. But on the bright side, I did find a suitable "Ali in combat" theme that should make up for it. S9mQQpBGCz4

I'm both glad I'm not the only one who has done that and sad that it happened to you. In Star Wars Galaxies I had a macro that was part of a running joke with a friend who was a dancer who often wore one of the more revealing outfits. It was simply a macro of my character whispering "I think you forgot to get dressed this morning, yes?" since I had said it often enough and I thought it would save time not having to type it out each time. On at least three separate occasions, I had meant to hit one macro but somehow got that one while in a rather large group. They laughed, I was thankful they couldn't see how red I had turned on this side of the keyboard.

That sort of thing both agitates and amuses me. On the one hand, it is entirely frustrating to have some RP going when someone barges in and tries to make everyone do as they say or claiming they are either a well know character or their relative (although in some cases this CAN work, but it shouldn't be a go-to idea), or sometimes even attempting to be another well known character from another setting entirely (and they usually ends up getting aggressive because they don't understand that RP doesn't quite work that way). On the other hand, it is often hilarious trying to follow their twisted sense of logic that they use to try to rationalize why they are acting that way. There is always the slim chance this sort of person really does want to get into RP and just doesn't know how, and that is forgivable (We all make mistakes, after all). But the people who stubbornly refuse to accept that they aren't getting their way and throw a tantrum like a two year old who didn't get the toy they wanted, those are the ones who make me laugh.

One of my multiple plans for a future character back before the game was live wasn't too far off from that basic idea. She wouldn't have been royalty, but still would have been of a family of high standing. It wasn't an original idea by far (grew up disagreeing with the "snooty" ways of her family and those around her, hated having her life planned for her, ran away or possibly disowned, ran off to a new land, etc.), but it was definitely interesting to me and would be a fun challenge to play. I may revisit the idea in the future since I've enjoyed playing that sort of character before.

I couldn't even begin to list all the anime I've liked because they were a pretty big source of my entertainment in the past. I lost a lot of my hearing as a young child when I went through treatments for Leukemia (I'm legally considered deaf, although I can hear to a degree), and it wasn't until I was in my mid/late teens that my family got a TV with closed captions. So my friends, friends of my siblings and even a few random relatives ended up getting me subtitled foreign films and series on VHS (including legit, fan subs from mailing trees in the pre-internet days and stuff taped off of TV) since it was the only way I could really follow something without constantly asking someone to tell me what was said. But a few off the top of my head include: - FLCL - Cowboy Bebop - Excel Saga - Guyver (the original, I haven't seen the more recent series yet) - The various Tenchi series - Digimon Tamers - A few of the various Japanese exclusive (and some of the Japanese edits of) Transformers series There are also numerous series adapted from manga that I'll really enjoy the manga, but I'm not too fond of the anime adaptation. A few examples are Naruto, Shaman King and Yu-Gi-Oh (although I absolutely love Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series).

That would eliminate about... I don't know, somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of my comments. I'm on a few strong meds that keep me in an almost permanent state of sleepy/groggy/slightly loopy, and far too often my innocent comments can be misunderstood. To quote a brilliant man, "I seem to do quite well for a stretch and then at the end of the sentence I say the wrong cranberry".

I've done that before as well, almost word for word (except obviously not K'nahli, otherwise I'd be having a serious identity crisis IC). A couple times it went to public chat rather than tells or guild chat, a couple times it went to an open RP channel. It actually led to a nickname as "(name)'s Pet", which was meant to be derogatory, but we took it and twisted it around and used it to our advantage like it was a nickname for a favored soldier of a military unit (or like a favored assassin, which was the IC "rumor" that my character was even though she really wasn't... Most of the time).

This is an old one, but it still makes me giggle like an idiot every time. nSztcxlQrjk And while on Star Wars, there is also this. I cannot stand the original song, but this version is awesome! T_93QVNSCmg

I wanted to say I like this bit. Just look at various cultures in the real world and how practices of one may seem "evil" to another, but to them it is simply a part of their life. It is definitely an interesting take on morality compared to explicitly trying to be one side or the other. A friend of mine used to play a somewhat similar character and it was very interesting to watch her develop over time. It also amused me because somehow my character and hers actually became close friends (one of the few people her character trusted), but it was still a foreign concept to her character (such as her struggling to express that she liked my character as a friend by saying "I don't wish to harm you quite as much as I want to harm everyone else", clearly uncomfortable with the whole act of sentiment). I hope you find some good contacts because I'd love to see how this character develops.

Well, we don't want to mislead people into thinking I'm perfectly sane, do we? Then you will need a parter Lalafell called Robin. or Bobbin.. yes Bobbin I'm definitely going to find some way to work this in somewhere along the way. I don't know how yet (maybe in a short story about the character), but it wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that. This is partly why I'm trying to nail down a little more info about the character. I have the base idea, but I can't really answer those questions until I have a little more of an idea of who the character is and how she would think. But I'm getting closer!! And I'll probably be in the same boat as you once I do begin answering the questions.

I used to have a group that I would regularly RP with as well as bounce story and RP ideas off of, but over the last few years they have all but disappeared (some have completely disappeared, others are just too busy with RL and we chat in an occasional email or IM, and sadly a couple are no longer with us). I was always a little surprised when my old Star Wars Galaxies character was practically 2/3 a female Luke Skywalker in terms of history and origin, but nobody ever seemed to make the connection. I thought it would have been plain enough to see: raised on a moisture farm, Force sensitive but didn't know about it until later (although I used Creature Handler to portray it as an affinity with animals and was closer to a Force Witch of Dathomir than a Jedi), had a sister she didn't know about until later and so on. Well, we don't want to mislead people into thinking I'm perfectly sane, do we?

That is about 50/50 true with my friends as well. Normally I'd usually talk anything Final Fantasy with my younger brother and his wife, but they are expecting their first kid in the next few weeks and are understandably preoccupied. The only thing I have set in stone is they wouldn't be Miqo'te. I'm coming up with a few various ideas and seeing which feels right to me, but at the moment nothing is set just yet. Will have to respond to more later, I'm still giggling madly at Magellan's suggestion. I can't decide if it is hilarious, brilliant or brilliantly hilarious.

So I'm trying to establish a bit of a backstory for my Miqo'te, including such things as what happened to her birth parents as I have planned for her to have been adopted and raised by farmers. None of my close friends nor my RP friends currently have FFXIV, but that hasn't stopped them from chiming in with unhelpful suggestions. - Friend 1 suggested her parents sent her from their dying home world via a magically propelled container, only to land in a cornfield outside of a village called "Tinytown". It took me a few seconds to realize this was a Superman reference. - Friend 2 suggested her parents were killed after seeing the play "The Mask of Zerro", leading her to grow up to become the masked hero Bat-Kitty. I wanted to smack her for that, but at least she tried to make a FF reference (even though for the wrong setting). - Friend 3 suggested her parents were supposed to take some friends on their new boat for a three hour tour. I stopped her before she could continue. - My teenage goddaughter suggested her parents were killed by the Black Mage "He-who-shouldn't-have-his-name-spoken-aloud". :frustrated: I don't think I'll be asking them for any more suggestions anytime soon.

At least the mistell was limited to /say. A good friend of mine once did something similar in another MMO, intending for it to be within group chat with him and his IC wife (played by his RL girlfriend), but due to some mistyping that I really cannot understand because the group and channel commands were nowhere near similar, it was broadcast in the server's RP channel. To make his shame even greater, his girlfriend and I did a short story about our characters teasing him about something else, but using a specific set of words from the mistell in a different context (but clearly meant to poke fun at the mistell).

Toying with Character Ideas durring server down time

I voted for the Miqo'te, but I'm still torn between that and the Lalafell choice. I think there is a lot of potential for all the choices, though, so I can't blame you for being indecisive. -
Long ago, the girl who is now my best friend and I had only recently began to hang out in an MMO. In this particular MMO, you could respond the the last person who sent you a message with a simple /r command without having to type a name. On this particular day, my best friend and I were in a public RP spot hanging out and being a sociable with others while I was also chatting with another friend via tells who had just mentioned she was going to run through a somewhat difficult area to try gathering some materials needed to craft a few of our RP outfits we had planned together. So naturally I sent a response of "Do you need a hand with that?" using the /r command. What I didn't notice before I hit enter was that my best friend had just sent me a tell of "I'm going to take a shower here quick". This was roughly 10 or so years ago. To this day she has NOT let me live it down, and whenever she lets me know she's going AFK to take a shower she makes a point of telling me she doesn't need my help.

This makes me want to go look up "Backstroke of the West" (The hilarious badly translated English to Chinese to English subtitled "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith") again. Although to be fair, I look it up about twice a year anyway.

I miss that sort of RP. Back in Star Wars Galaxies, my character's day would usually start and end like that, just a small gathering getting together (usually having an IC meal or tea as we discuss plans for the day), then off to do whatever (be it actually going out and hunting/flying/leveling, going to an event/party or going to interact with larger groups in a cantina or whatever), then another small gathering near the end of the day (if possible) as we discussed the day, events, just hang out or just whatever came to mind. And some days it would just be a couple of us going all about, hopping from place to place with interactions at most stops, but continuing IC as we went along (such as my character teasing her friend about her speeder piloting skills as we drove from a shuttle to a nearby city or some destination to meet up with others).

Most of the time I prefer to just have freeform RP, but I do like the occasional plot/event to throw a little spice into the mix. There is a lot of opportunity for a plot/event to create character developments that might be difficult to work into a regular freeform RP session.

Never used Tumblr before, but I figured I'd go ahead and get one set up here.

You're still doing better than I am, then. Due to an insurance snafu, I had to spend the money I'd saved up for a 3DS (or 2DS, depending if I could get that last bit of cash) and now have to wait on that, while a copy of Pokemon Y is sitting at my friend's house waiting for me (was supposed to be my birthday present, preordered before the insurance issue came up). I'm currently trying to convince family to pool together with me for one Christmas gift rather than getting several little things (which is how I got my DS a few years back, so hopefully it'll work out). Hope your 3DS arrives quickly, though!!

Have my late partner's name inside of a heart. The problem is her name is the same as mine, so occasionally people that don't know about her assume I'm conceited. Also have the Star Wars Imperial logo, Doctor Who Seal of Rassilon (had that since before the series came back, but I still get people who don't know what it is) and, because I collect action figures, the copyright circle c logo and my birth year on my leg.
