  1. Well, to be fair, the same argument could be used against the Vent Tent. It comes down to the basic fact that it's just venting, not finger pointing, and not a single bit of it is personal nor ever supposed to be taken personally. Taking it personally is going a bit far, honestly, there's no need to be self conscious!
  2. I'm really relieved this thread came up. I've seen a lot of DRKs in LFD trying to level my lower level classes while the queues are quick, and I'm terrified of disappointing healers by doing some of the sillier things I've seen DRKs do. One thing I was told was that leveling the other two tank classes to 50 is a must for best use of the class (cross class abilities and what not), could someone confirm for me? If so, I got a loooot of leveling to do, haha
  3. This ^ Everyone seems to be doing just fine being hospitable and kind, the only posts suggesting otherwise are typically the ones making remarks about how they think the topic/posters is/are rude. :B
  4. I love it when you get players in a PUG that are new to their role/class and are more than happy to take advice
  5. Hah, this. That being said, appropriate accents can be really immersive. Similarly, my other pet peeve is excessive stuttering or "thick" accents that are just utterly illegible. Furthering on the notion of breaking immersion, it kinda makes me shake my head to need to lean forward and squint at my chat trying to decipher strange languages consisting of about 50% apostrophes or hyphens :B
  6. Huh, sounds interesting! I think I'd have to see it in action to understand how it works, however. The idea of it reminds me a little of the visual novel Don't Take It Personally, Babe, It Just Ain't Your Story. I'll keep this bookmarked
  7. A-few-days-ago vent. After a year of working within one of the most lovely restaurants in town, I received my first belligerent [potential] costumer! *Marks the date on the calendar* It's Father's Day (or was it the day before? hmm), and we get swamped every holiday. Frankly, we've a small kitchen and are generally understaffed by about one pair of hands at any given time throughout the restaurant. I was doing /great/ handling hostessing and busting at the same time as I normally do with the manager occasionally spotting the door and reservation list as needed. We finally reach critical mass, the kitchens are over loaded because after two groups coming in, one consisting of twenty some odd people, the other thirty, well... three cooks are going to have a handful. As such, we went on a twenty minute table wait to work through that mess. Far better to give costumers the chance to go to someplace where they can eat sooner than have them wait fourty for food, right? THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED. Group comes in, no big deal. Says there's three of them. I inform them of the table wait, offer to take their names and give them a pager; they look out into the dining room and ask, "What? I see at least three tables open right there." "Well, sir, our kitchen is currently overloaded due to large reservations coming in around the same time," I reply. He stares at me for a split second as though gears just clicked in his head and I continue to smile apologetically at him, waiting for a response. "Terrible service, good bye," he quickly says, turning on his heels and ushering the other two (assumedly wife and child) out the door. "Sorry for the inconvenience, have a nice day!" I shout after them. After that, it seriously took all of my composure to not burst out laughing at how childish he was. I was seriously baffled by his behaviour. Laughed about it to my manager, even. Do people really not realise that throwing a tantrum over not being instantly gratified is seriously... off? @A@
  8. Chagadai Malaguld, here! Praying that her subrace being Raen is alright considering the circumstances of the tribe and what not.
  9. Hmm. I'd say try it a little bit as a tank, see if you like it! From the looks of it, it's really, really fun, and it's the only tank class I'll be seriously playing haha. Otherwise I agree with the others, FATE grinding works if you want to keep to having your IC class be your OOC class as well. Good luck!
  10. Bah. I guess we'll see. Haha! Well, I have to defend the people bringing in OoU character, somewhat. I did that when I was new to MMORP, and largely used it to explained why I didn't know much about the lore. However, it wasn't long before someone pointed out that I was sort of doing myself a disservice with that method by sort of ignoring the world and it's lore. I tend to agree. Now-a-days I just have characters that are largely ignorant of their own history (Learning the lore along with my character is rather enjoyable, I've found) Oooh... that's a very good point for someone to have made. Yep, making a character who's ignorant of their culture or history so as to allow both the player and character learn can be so much fun. That's actually what I did with my first character on FFXIV, haha! It really helped me learn as well as provide my character with a goal to set themselves to and a reason to socialize with others. Also, regarding queue times, if you commonly log in around this time, the queues are very short and forgiving, as I'm seeing
  11. Thanks for your reply. Hmm. How bad is the over population on those other servers? Would I be stuck in a queue for a while, or does it simply not allow new people in? As for lore adherence, I do believe one should roleplay as a part of the world they've chosen to roleplay in, but I've seen a variety of ways to interpret how one violates the lore. For instance: Some people believe that if it's not explicitly stated to exist, then it doesn't. Others are the opposite route, where if it's not explicitly stated to not exist, then it can. Still others tend to be somewhere in the middle, and will allow for anything that seems to adhere to the "flavor" of the lore. Mmn, queue times... I suppose it really depends on how this maintenance holds through. For the past three days, I couldn't log in to Balmung (nor Gilgamesh) at all during peak activity hours. I had to hop on an entirely different cluster of servers to play. I'm really hoping the maintenance fixes all of that; but yes, there definitely are queues. So far, I haven't seen anything too daunting, just around 20 people ahead of me on average, give or take, and that generally works out in around 5-10 minutes maximum! I imagine after this expansion release it may be longer as so many players are returning, however. Making a character on Balmung has always been a harrowing experience, demanding you to be awake at ungodly hours haha but Gilgamesh is far more forgiving, letting you make characters through most hours excluding peak, it seems. That being said, server transfers let you by-pass this restriction, should you be patient enough to wait three days for your character to be eligible for transfer *Nods* And to respond to the lore comments, oh yes, I certainly see what you mean! I believe filling in the grey areas of lore is totally a-ok and can add more to the already exciting and lush universe. I suppose that what I care to avoid, personally, are characters from other universes derived from anime or other MMORPGs, which I have found to be... not necessarily common, per se, but definitely an existent trope! (I had the treehouse first :(!! Haha)
  12. It's spelled Balmung, actually! Both the Balmung and Gilgamesh servers have roleplay, though between the two, roleplay can be most easily found on Balmung. Regarding Siren, I have only just returned as well, and though I have seen folks on Siren, I honestly can't imagine the roleplaying community is very large - that being said, if you can log onto Siren, dang, that'd be worth it enough! Of the last three questions, the only one I can answer is the second, about lore abiding. It's an honest toss-up. I'm more of the sort looking for lore-abiding roleplay and I notice it can be very difficult to find folks considering how many erm... go against the grain of the universe, so to say. That being said, if you enjoy that kind of roleplay, Balmung has oodles of it!
  13. Thanks Faye! After posting the thread and heading off to work I started thinking that maybe this might be the way of things haha Thank you for your advice, I'll indefinitely have to go with it. I'll figure something out! I'm glad you mention that! I was additionally considering hyur, so that really does ground it to whatever idea grasps me the most. Thanks for reading my thoughts on that, haha
  14. Hello there! Been a while, such a while I actually lost my past account information. But that's okay! I intend to return with a new character, so I suppose this works beautifully as a sort of... forum name change, haha. Gotta say, I'm really excited for Heavensward. When I found out it came out in three days, I bought it right away. (I'm hurting from it but hrnngh so excited!) I have a rather well-leveled character currently and I'm paying the entry subscription so I just play that character and save a bit from the money I just plunged on the expansion - that being said, what do you guys think is or will be less popular, female miqo'te or female au ra? Last I played, female miqo'te are everywhere, and I'm entirely entranced with humanoid races who have animalistic features, so they really appeal to me; however, if they're still as common, I'll gravitate towards the au ra, and vice versa. Hope to see you soon!
