  1. You know, you're a someone who really makes me smile. After I failed to get into A.E.T.H.E.R., and have been lost and sad without a Roleplaying Guild, you're really making me want to try out for Elements. I don't know anything about it, but it must really be fun if you're a part of it. /creepy stalking I have to say, this certainly makes my wallet happy. And I'm so happy that this site is overall much more positive than many other sites that talk about this game. Perhaps I should stop going to FFXIVCore and stick to my time here. It makes me feel a lot better. And I love festivals and "seasonal events" so much. I remember back in Final Fantasy XI I almost never took my Yukata off.
  2. I'm not adept in wiki coding, but this is really worth the effort to learn! I'm hope I'm on the path to making quality wiki pages for my two characters.
  3. I would have to say that I pretty well share the same feelings and sentiments as Volkai. I also think that the lack of excitement some people have this this game could be some of the more hateful people out there bashing the game and wearing other people's down. Because a good portion of the time here on the internet, out on places that discuss the game, for every person who likes the game there seems to be a response of "well, that's just you". I know people wouldn't want to admit people on the internet very negatively affecting them in any way. But it can work like a negative sugar pill that will affect you more than you'd like. Something is vibrant and exciting when people tell you it is, and not so vibrant and exciting when people tell you it's not. No matter how much we try to resist caring what others think. That's why I've been kind of scolding myself surrounding myself with so much negativity for the game the past few weeks, if you convert it to money, forum and review site going with negative opinions about the game has probably wasted a good hundred dollars or more of my own money.
  4. Eh, forgive my ignorance that used to be in this post. I sleepiness is clearly getting to me.
  5. At the cost of a possibly extreme case of stating the obvious. I do see Roleplayers as the sorts of "gameplay creators". People like Square Enix lay foundations, while building upon that story and creating a good environment and expounding upon that foundation is the job of the players. And it is because of that responsibility that not everything is handed to MMORPG players on a silver platter like it is on non-online games. Because the job of the creator is really nothing more than to give the player a really advanced version of a Pen and Paper Role Playing Guide in Computer/Video Game form. And the Roleplayers, being a major type of gameplay cultivator, have the greater tendency to "Life Simulator" and general immersion improvement to the point of a greater likelihood in things like crafting and fishing. So I must admit, that "Psh, stupid RPer." joke make me chuckle. There really is a "cultivation" versus "non-cultivation" mentality within the MMORPG, the later of which, who only seem to enjoy grinding and what they are handed, I have never been able to understand. Enough so that making a sarcastic joke about immersion activity versus grinding is fairly amusing, at least to me. [Never explain the joke rule, broken. Socially oblivious activity, engaged.]
  6. I'm nowhere near to having a dream computer, but I'm just happy to be able to play it.
  7. Final Fantasy IX was the game that gave me the most hope for the franchise after Final Fantasy VI had ended. I couldn't stand the direction Final Fantasy took after VI, I enjoyed the games for being what they were, but it didn't feel like Final Fantasy. It was so wonderful to have a Final Fantasy game I truly liked back with IX. A game that finally felt like a Final Fantasy since their SNES days and Tactics. It was so nostalgic and perfect in so many ways, unfortunately they haven't done much of that since then. Thankfully though, the MMORPGs have gone down the path of the classic Final Fantasy. I would hope that Final Fantasy XV has more like the games behind it, like another IX, but I don't have my hopes up. Necron was a bit of a silly idea, I must admit. But the overall game aside from aspects like that were pretty good. It was still awesome and foreboding by the time you got to Necron, and I loved how mysterious the whole endgame was, but I will admit aside from that it was easily one of the worst developed wrap-ups. Still, it and Final Fantasy Tactics are the only two on the PlayStation that make me feel like they have something to offer to the series on par to that of the Super Nintendo. The only successful kindred spirit and continuation of the Super NES glory days.
  8. I'm a more classic Final Fantasy fan myself, I must admit. And prefer the far more high fantasy and steampunk influenced Final Fantasy games than the science fiction ones. To me, Fantasy is where Final Fantasy gets it's real charm. I don't dislike the other, more futuristic Final Fantasy games, like Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, and so forth. But I'm glad . And I like representing my better memories. I love being able to represent how I love places and being able to say I was from a place like Mysidia, that has some of the strongest positive memories for me, would be amazing. Also, it wouldn't bother me so much if Final Fantasy XIV was a game with a setting more like Final Fantasy XIII, but it's clearly more along the line of the classical vein. So it just doesn't seem fitting to pull something from the other type of Final Fantasy in a world that greatly resembles classic Final Fantasy backdrops and surroundings, and Ivalice. The Besaid thing isn't bothering me as much now, mostly because I haven't been thinking about it as much, and of course because it's be several days since I first discovered the news. It's a lot easier for me to think about it if I envision Besaid as some pirate ship beside the port of Limsa-Lominsa. And no some horrible situation where someone is like "so, you like Besaid and Final Fantasy X, I just though Final Fantasy X was great and Yuna is so pretty and blahblahblahblah". Ugh, I brought the cringeworthy thoughts back. My mind is in pain now, the cringe, oh the painful cringe, I'm going to force myself to go back to thoughts of Faris on a Pirate Ship and the Prima Vista. Interestingly, we got back on this topic all over again.
  9. I live in the South, Arkansas to be more specific. I hate Arkansas weather, it's too hot. It's only good for going swimming in lake Hamilton or lake Ouachita or the like. Hot weather is simply nasty. However, I do romanticize the so called "redneck" and "hillbilly" culture in some ways. The Tennessee hills are especially pretty. I myself don't have much of a Southern accent at all, but I do enjoy it a bit. Not near as much as many other accents, but it's cute in it's own way. I, personally, love the voices of Eorzea so far.
  10. I don't like Narshe quite as much as Mysidia and Lindblum, but Narshe brings quite nostalgic, proud feelings to mind, as well. A land of snow and Magicite. And I am dedicated to snow gods.
  11. May we take this pirate ship called "Besaid" as far as it can take us.
  12. By far the Collectors Edition. Even games in this world that haven't been on the far side of impressive I have simply loved getting the gear. I love artbooks, and the like. I have the Collectors Edition gear of Final Fantasy XII, and it certainly wasn't one of my more favorites of the series, and I don't regret it one bit. In this case, for a game that I am planning to spend great amounts of time enjoying and roleplaying, the best game I've played in 3 years, the choice is ever so obvious. Even if just for the excitement and collection alone it would, but I firmly believe this was event to have waited for, a Final Fantasy XI that is upgraded and will drag me in and never let me go with it's sheer universe warping madness. I could not miss that enhancement of being able to get a head start, that vastly superior, mysterious, haunting, Yoshitaka Amano artwork, the gorgeous, stunning journal filled with map and all sorts of things I am not even yet revealed, and a DVD to hold me over watching in euphoria, like all the others I current have before it's time, before it's release, I'm also obsessed with my character, and will cherish the Rite of Passage that I get with great care and fancy. I could not skip out on this for the world.
  13. It really creeps me out how much that list seems directed at religious fundamentalists. I mean, all those things like "witchcraft", "false gods", and demons beside obsession, violence, suicide, arson, rape, torture, and genocidal fascism.
  14. I don't see how anyone can be against roleplaying in a roleplaying game. In any case, given some of the talk in this thread, I actually expected worse from that site than I got. I guess I'm just incredibly used to negativity and trolling? Of course, I didn't agree with a lot of it, but I didn't get very irritated, and I get irritated by things said on the internet more than I'd ever like to admit. I'm playing an MMORPG to play a roleplaying game, and the games have a lot less worth and entertainment to me otherwise. They can not understand how I feel this way if they like, I certainly don't understand why they, those who don't like roleplay, feel the way they do.
  15. You invite a friend over to your house for the afternoon. Describe what your friend would see upon entering your home. Elaborate cloths all over the place. Many fixated upon intricate and fascinating designs, and wonderful, classic, heritage, albeit whimsical furniture. Drapes and drapes and clothing and more drapes, and a bed with a fancy bed-skirt. After all, the owner is a weaver and a magician! Ah, see the moon, see the moon in my living room! As well, healthy wood and water all around. It is a magical place. A magical weaving of delight. Oh, the first thing upon entering you say? Why it would be my fountain! During the casual small-talk that ensues, your friend asks you if you have read any good books lately. How do you respond? My best of friend reads a lot, books of all kinds! And I had thought spending more time around her would diversify my tastes, but I still mostly read magical tomes. I spent a particular amount of time lately reading a simply fascinating book about ice magic, called the "Aurora scar". It was very fascinating and informative, and I think I may be on the verge of a real improvement in my ice magic, soon! Your friend eventually leaves, and you're still bored. Restless, you leave the house and set out for a walk. Describe the neighborhood you live in. Oh, it is a very friendly neighborhood. It used to feel warmer... but it's still very great. I love my home, I love the woods, the burning sunset, and of course, the moon at night! As I walk out the door now, it's night, and several hours until dusk, when I usually go to bed. The moon is huge! And there's just something so warm about the night, little lights still out, and the outside is warm enough. I walk through and through, and the warm rooftops above embrace me and keep me feeling secure, I'm heading to a creek, and the woods. I stare out at the water, and I feel whole inside. Less whole than I once did, but still amazing. I shall wait and stare at this creek and these woods that embrace me, until the hour comes that the restaurant that I like most is open, and severing my favorite dish. Oh no! An orphan is in trouble! Down the street from where you stand, a small street urchin is being bullied by three larger youths. What do you do about it? Hmph. I would never let such a thing pass. I will mosey on over there and teach them a lesson. Adventure time! The next day, still restless, you decide that what you need is a good change of pace. How do you pack for your four-day road trip to Ishgard? I love my town, but the mysteries call me. I will return to my home soon. But of course, I want lots of food and magical supplies. I'll be sure to get lots of extra food when I eat the restaurant today. I think I am pretty well ready already, but I will still need to food and magical accessories on me than usual. Along your journey, you spot some bandits waiting at a bridge across a wide but slow moving river up ahead of you. They haven't seen you yet. You need to cross the bridge to get to where you're going. How do you handle the situation? Well, I am strong, but I still have a long way to go to be any legend of might, to be cast into Onyx and precious material. So I cannot simply take every battle that comes before me, I think I will check to see how powerful they are, how they look. What materials do they carry? If they look weak as they do now, I will simply walk in, and take care of them. If not, I may sneak through the river and avoid eyesight. You have just arrived for the first time in a new big city. Where do you go first? I'm sure hungry, I wonder if they have anything special. For being the 1,000th tourist to the city, you have been given a 6,000 gil voucher to spend as you like at the Ishgard Department Store (think FFXIV version of Macy's). What do you spend it on? Oh, this is wonderful. Surely the gods have been looking down on me today, thank you Menphina! I can buy a shiny new staff, a sword, and even several magical books and potions! Perhaps I'll even buy a new robe? All of that shopping has made you deliriously hungry. What sort of food establishment do you seek out for lunch? Sniff. Sniff! I smell a wonderful smell of grilled fish and paste over there! I am eating there! Oh, and they'd better have the beer! Five months later and safely back at home, you realize the Winter Festival is approaching! What sort of present do you pick out for your mother (or nearest living relative, or closest friend)? I found several nice leatherworking books and rare materials when I was out at the department store, so I was sure to get that. There was also a group of bangles that enhance the power of shell. I was sure to get those. I had our family and special messages engraved on all of them. She should love it!
  16. Cat Girl - Copying the OP, Miqo'te. Big Eater - One of Geala's biggest hobbies is, food. Red Mage - Her first interest is magic, but she later takes a great interest in and mystifies the "honourable warrior". The Prankster - She pretty much loved this as a child. Happily Married - Her parents are this. Dark and Troubled Past - I actually tried to avoid this trope, for the most part. But some of it snuck in, in the form of her dead childhood friend. Is otherwise happy, though. Petite Pride - Unfortunately, this may not be workable thanks to customization removal. Scratched. As much as I'd like for it not to be. Bottle Fairy - Geala started drinking as a teenager. Action Girl - Keeping in line with being a typical Miqo'te, under being a Conjurer, she is this. Black Magician Girl - Despite being in love with the Amazonian aspect of this race, and adding it in below anyway, her main class and interest is primarily this. Staff Chick - I hate this trope, and I've avoided it as best I can when making female Conjurer and Thaumaturge characters. Christmas Cake - Geala is in her thirties, single, and worries that things are going to continue that way. Cool Big Sis - She has a bit of this to her younger brother. Pale Skinned Brunette - Like the Moon! You Gotta have Blue Hair - And so she does. Magic Knight - Right under her conjurer, lies a Gladiator and Lancer. Robe and Wizard Hat - Her clothing of choice. Pink Boy Blue Girl - I've always interpreted the Mithra this way, and now my Miqo'te family. Matriarchy in Mithra already confirmed, but I like to take it as far as I can. Creepy Child - Geala is extremely cute, happy, and friendly, but had a slight degree of this in her childhood that I ended up downplaying in order to help me get into a guild. The Ladette - Geala becomes more of this when she comes a teenagers and hangs out among the more "pirate-y" and treasure hunting types, as well as honourable warriors. Something I aspire character to be. Tall Dark and Bishoujo - Her occasionally overly serious, intense moments is about the closest she gets to this personality type, I think she's fairly successful at becoming more militant, but I'd just say she's an upbeat character who had matured and has incredibly serious sides as well. However, she is the "Tallest" option available! Bald Women - Well, not that it's available. But I'm pretty strongly set on the shortest hair option I've seen by now. Hot Amazon - She's a Miqo'te. Mysterious Past - I tried to play with this as tactfully as I could, but I think it's still probably been major factor in the discouragement of a recent Guild application. It's frequently done, it's hard to avoid, and it can come off looking horribly special, the balance is a bit nerve wracking. Dysfunctional Family - Completely averted trope. I wanted to avoid the family as a source of any drama for the character. Giving her a very happy, friendly family. And not simply because people seem to hate all family angst nowadays, I honestly wanted a really warm, friendly family. Heterosexual Life Partners - Her and Eirol. Whom I will go more into in the future. An Ice Person - Geala, is naturally, dedicated to Menphina. The Lost Woods - Geala lives here, and is quite fond of these settings. The Ophelia - Has a tiny amount of this, but not enough to really be crazy. Very very tiny and I've retconned most of it thanks to it being particularly unimpressive to a roleplay guild. Real Women Never Wear Dresses - Slightly averted, in that while I have many things to make her as butch as possible, or at least as butch to my comfort and liking, I always wanted to play a female character to feel slightly feminine in some form or aspect. And have given her an interest in magic, magical clothing, cute things, weaving, and cooking. "Boat Lights" - They've given a new, fantastic option for heterochromia in characters, and I'm going to use it. I'm Taking Her Home with Me! - Geala likes cute things, a lot. Cheerful Child - Geala was a very strong version of this as a kid. Training from Hell - As she becomes a teenager, she becomes more interested in doing Gladiator and Lancer on the side of her main magical hobbies, looking up to becoming strong like her mom and legendary mystical warriors. On the side. So she one time, one time does 50,000 push-ups in one sitting.. Action Mom - Her own mom is certainly one of these. Hot Blooded - I aspire her to have as much of this as possible when she's serious, and I'd have a hard time having her never having one if I tried. Not a Mary Sue, just might have a large ham moment or two when the situation deems such, Dan Hibiki was by no means a Marty Stu, was he? But was he a hot-blooded Ham? Most certainly. Warmer blooded characters would just be more fun to play than just be the Stoic all the time. If an exciting situation happens, Geala might even be more serious than is called for. Badass Long Robe - This is the way my character tends to see Magician's gear. Love Goddess - Geala worships one of these. BFS - I plan on owning one of these one day. I think it's time I took a break from this.
  17. Perhaps I'm a bit bright eyed, but I tend to look at a crowded server as more of an advantage than a disadvantage. Allows Final Fantasy roleplayers into imminence. The influence and importance one gets, residing among the masses, is an advantage that I see. So if Besaid stays the most popular, I will see that as a thing I like about the choice.
  18. Feels kind of exciting to be a part of something that has been announced, like that. I hope that we can do a great job creating an online roleplaying legacy to all of the gaming world.
  19. I'm sorry, I felt like I had the need to respond to some later comments eventually. I'll try to help this be dropped, then. Though I suppose that means this thread will die and not be heavily posted in later, as there's really not much to say on topic to such a subject, other than whether one likes or dislikes the name as we have done. What will go on in the server would probably come into another thread. I'm glad to at least have a roleplaying community, on a happy, popular, well developed storyline epic Online Final Fantasy like XIV. And as I have stated at the very beginning, that's more important than having a cringe-causing, disliked, or whatever word I would use to describe the name. Just like I would rather even play this game under the lowest possible settings, than not at all. Now, if I can only just have one of my applications accepted like I am very worried about.
  20. Well, one positive way of looking at this is that it all balances out. The other towns servers in Final Fantasy XIV would normally have the advantage of having a nice name while Besaid would have the disadvantage of being the truly unfitting and out of place one, being simply awful and a worst choice to many people, including myself. Having the most important communities on the internet acts as a counterweight, giving the poor thing a fighting chance. Making the place more bearable and equal for many people than it already is. And I suppose that's an entirely fair compensation, taking a notably bad or cringeworthy server and bringing it up to the level of the other servers through sheer overwhelming importance of it's community. I'd also like to remind people here that the conversation between me and others started by simply me stating that "I am disappointed" in no more than a fairly solemn way, and others responding "Why" continuously. If there was anyone provoked here, it was me. There's too much of a tendency to judge post of a minority opinion as as being a troll. A troll is a provocateur who's purpose is to rile up and disrupt a community. That some people had come in recently to call me a troll, immature, and a griefer for nothing other than admitting to being made in any way unpleasant, sad, or disappointed by a turn up, is highly disturbing. Voicing a disappointment is healthy way for people to get relief in a situation they find unsatisfying. If many people in the community were simply saying "I am disappointed over the Final Fantasy XIV fatigue system, but I will have to grit my teeth and bear it." instead of provoking other fans of the series, I think the entire fanbase of this game would be in a lot better of a position right now. And the former, like I have done, is a lot more mature than what the majority of the Final Fantasy XIV fanbase is currently engaging in. I, certainly, meant no means of sparking drama. I expressed honest disappointment, for my own relief. I did not intend to invoke hard feelings between members, which is my understanding of the term "drama" in it's usage on internet fora. And I wish that people would be more understanding when people are disappointed by an aspect of a game and voice so in a reasonable fashion, instead of blaming someone who is dogpiled of being a troll, immature, a griefer, or whatever derogatory label to draw further ire from the majority. It's this sort of thing that does exactly what a troll does to a community, make it more uncomfortable for people than it has to. In any case, I'm feeling a little less annoyed by the name now, and my mind has gotten more used to the fact one very good and important thing has a very noticeable drawback, at least as far as more frivolous things as server names are concerned. And being able to voice my feelings on the matter here and elsewhere, like others, has certainly helped bring me to this more comfortable point. I'm still not comfortable with and never will be comfortable with this server name, but I'm not feeling that overwhelming shock I was feeling yesterday. Not enough to have been taking this too seriously in my mind yesterday that is, but enough that now I don't have half as big of a desire to express my disappointment as yesterday. In any case, I'll always slightly cringe when I see that server name and am reminded I'm on it, and will always have to keep telling myself things like "it's just a name" or "it's the people on the server who matters" or pretending on on a server than I'm not and giving it a nickname. Like other have said, things like that happen. I was a little bit shocked that it was my least favorite, though. I still feel like ending this off with another vocalizing of my disappointment, I know I'm not going to likely get a number favorite name, that's highly unlikely and overexpecting, but it was a bit shocking and disappointing to be one of the few choices I actually hate. What a case of sore luck.
  21. I have to say, that as an immersion and roleplay addict, this is deeply appealing to me. I love my character. Tumbler is nothing. So much though that I felt the risk of bumping a thread that might be old enough to annoy people just to say this.
  22. I don't know what those other servers are, but they can't be worse than Besaid. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought that into this thread as well. It's in spoilers now. I'm excited to hear about new servers, not that it'll do me any good. From what I read, it appears that an RP designed server would take precedence over the vote.
