cancelled The Aethersteel Tournament
Caex Vaeriar replied to Caex Vaeriar's topic in Chronicled Events
This made me think of Suikoden. Neat idea. Good luck with your event. o/ You know, the original description was meant to be a Suikoden-style system. However, I realised that referencing it that way was a bit vague, sadly. In Suikoden, "Heavy Attack" would do more damage (Deathblow), and I couldn't find a way to balance that for this without adding a lot of complexity to it. If there's more interest in it, I think it is possible. -
Aethersteel Tournament IC: Aether and Steel. The two are believed best kept seperate. Do you want to be a grand master of steel? Then fight steel and draw blood by blade. Do you want to be a grand master of the Aether and Magic? Then practice in your books, study, and come to dominate your opponents with your mind. But when the two comes together, we get the Aethersteel. The combination of Might and Magic - the culmination of Intellect and Brawn. Those who fight with more than their mind, and more than their base strength will emerge victorious. Do you have what it takes to face your opponent - no matter what may be standing on the other side? Then step forward and fight. OoC: The Aethersteel Tournament is a Tournament that will be following a system very similar to systems found in Rock Paper Scissors system, where two players face eachother One-On-One and are pitted into combat. In effect, this is a “Rock, Paper, Scissors” Duel-style System! In place of Dice, we use a system of Attack - Fast Attack - Heavy Attack. Each member will be given 3 HP. The one who wins the 'round' will be given the first post, followed by the one who lost 'recieving' the attack. Attack: Beats “Fast Attack” Fast Attack: Beats “Heavy Attack” Heavy Attack: Beats “Attack” In Laymen's Terms, this means that Attack > Fast Attack > Heavy Attack > Attack. In the case of attacks matching, both players will recieve a point of damage and will post in order. A Fight Master will be used for each match, so we will be keeping the tournament a little bit smaller while we test and use this system, gain further Fight Masters for the fight to accommodate more people, and work out any complaints or suggestions that arise to better the tournament! How Attacks are to be handled: At the start of the match, each person will enter with a total of 3 HP. Upon the start of the match, both combatants will send a tell to the Fight Master with either “Attack”, “Fast Attack”, or “Heavy Attack.” The winner will be announced in local (Say) chat by the Fight Master, and the first post (to represent an attack) will go to the Winner, with the Loser reacting on taking damage. This process will then repeat itself, until one of the members have reached 0 HP. The Time The Time: 3:00 PM EST 7:00 PM GMT The Day: The next tourney will be on Saturday, April 30th 2016 at 3:00 PM EST. The Location: This tournament will take place at the Lifemend Stump, in Central Shroud This location is subject to change if we get a sponser that prefers to use a house* Lifemend Stump, Central Shroud (x27, y15) [Thanks given to Ilwe'ran and Nefzan for the clarification!] Current Needs: Sponser(s): Currently, we would welcome an "IC sponser" - someone who wants the fights hosted at their home, or likewise, someone who wants to have their name attatched to the tournament as an RP. There is an opportunity for RP in this, I believe. No gil needs to be given to be a sponser, we are however asking for support (weather in manpower or word of mouth.) Fight Masters: We are in need of additional Fight Masters. We are hoping to have 3-5 Fight Masters total for the first tournament. Once we have the requisite amount of Fight Masters, we will be able to have a proper tournament. Healers: This is a fight tournament where injuries are expected. We will need healers. You/Combat Participants! We want to know what you think, if you want to participate, if you’d be able to participate! Having more input, people, etc. Will help us build a strong, unique system that is well distinguished from the common combatant type tournaments! PLEASE MESSAGE HERE IN PM, IN TELL (Caex'ra Vaeriar), or in skype at Katosu.sotaka if you are interested. Thank you!

Ver'svesh's logs - Aftermath of RP's (always open to more!)
Caex Vaeriar replied to Caex Vaeriar's topic in Town Square (IC)
The long day was at an end. The familiar bedroll on the ground seemed to call to Ver as she walked towards it. Her arms were a bit slump, and she felt fatigued. But even through this exhaustion, one could see there was a small wag of her scaled tail. The slim limb occassionally tapped the ground behind her as it moved in an excited manner. The day had been fruitful. The request started by the man - Artorias Zyat - To get a necklace, with her name engraved on it, had yielded a good day to her. With part of the gil he had gifted her, she had met with another kind person. A woman named J'inarah Marad. The woman had guided her, and helped her, and now - the anticipation of the coming days flowed through her. She sat on the bedroll, turning her body and laying out flat on it. Her hands moved up towards her chest, slipping into the gap provided by the vest. She pulled out a sheet of parchment. Two signatures at the bottom, and the red ink of the seal that bled through the page showed its authenticity. She looked at it, wondering what sort of design the world of the Goldsmith's would bring. Their designs, beautiful and elegant, simple or complex. Brilliant gems. 'You deserve something nice' made her smile weakly. She blushed a little, and turned her head. Her horn gave a light bump on the ground as she rested her head only semi-sidelong, and she pulled the page in closer to her heart. A choker to call her own. A beautiful gemstone affixed upon it. And should she ever need it - her name etched out so she could quickly convey her name. The will of two amazing people, coming together in one. She nuzzled the back of her head into the pillow, filled with cheap feathers of local fauna and unwanted wools. Much akin to the outfit she was given, it gave her a warm feeling. To her, each treasure was a part of what could only be called a Hoard. Items from people she considered dear and important in her heart. -
I. Basic Info Characters:Ver'svesh Preah Primary character:Ver'svesh Preah Linkshells:None, as of 03/23 Primary RP linkshell:None, as of 03/23 [*][*][*][*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium/Heavy. Views on RP combat and injuries: In theory, if the damage is substantial enough, it may be enough to kill this character. Views on IC romance: Allowable. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Would more than welcome any family ties! It all helps flesh out a character more. And since she has a muddied background, it would be very easy to be a 'long lost sister'! Views on lore: Lore creates the baseline of what is considered acceptable. It is up to the writers to exist within the confines of the lore, and create a character that both abides by it and takes a unique spin on it. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): All are really valid! I love them all, but my favorite so far is /em! Linkshell needs to be defined as one, I suppose, though I don't have any as of now! I am hoping to have an RP-FC in the future. [*][*][*][*][*][*] III. Ver'svesh arrived back at the Refugee camp. Her return seemed to illicit a number of questionable gazes from the other refugees. Many had a look of earnest envy, that seemed to suggest a sort of jealousy of what she came in wearing. Brown clothes, simple - but clean, and made of a quality hempen. It was soft, and seemed to fit her form well - loosely covering her and showing little to no skin. The new worker's clothes set her apart for the moment from the other begger's of the town. "Did you hit it big?" one would ask, of which she would shake her head. She looked around somewhat nervously, looking down at the pile of dirty clothes in her hands. This outfit that she carried was of the same vein as the others of town - a leather vest, cloth undershirt, and long baggy pants. A single tooth for a necklace. She seemed to have a sad look on her face as she kept her view down, but once more she shook her head, leaning down, she placed the bag of clothes on the ground. The rattle of the gil would attract just a little more attention to her. RAising her hands in front of her, she would grasp hold of nothing in front of her, one hand higher than the other. She would made small, sweeping gestures with her hands, and then go down to her hands and knees. She places her hand over the floor, making it flat and making circular motions above the ground. and then she tapped at the clothes on her body, as well as the bag of gil to her side. The others seemed to give a nod of understanding - work for gil is not unusual, but it can be hard to find a willing employer. "I understand. Then, I believe you have something for us?" One man with dark tanned skin would ask. He crossed his arms over his chest as he stared her down, and his gaze danced down to the bag of gil atop the clothes. Standing up, Ver'svesh picked up the clothes and gil. Reaching in, she pulls out a majority of the coins. She walks forward to one man, in particular. This man had the look of a leader. His hair was kept short-cut yet still bushy, his clothes just as dilapidated as anyone elses. His eyes had a piercing sort of look to them, crimson irises and steady gaze. His eyes moved to her hands as he watched her offer up the money. He gives a simple sigh. "We'll make sure it's put to good use." the man would stay lightly, "At the least, the kids will not have to go hungry." He paused, looking over her clothes. "Consider selling those to have more to offer to the others. You do not have a need for them." ... Ver'svesh seemed to give a sad look as she looked down at the clothes. Her head dipped down, her eyes going soft as she looked at the fabrics. A memory plays in her mind as she is forced to shake her head, ever so faintly. Unable to accept such a lot, she denies it. "No?" The man would say, knitting his brows at her. "Don't be selfish. -All- of the members of this place need money for food, not just a fancy set of clothes!" He'd demand, but Ver'svesh seemed to be hesitant even then. She shook her head again. She patted at the clothes, and motioned to herself. Instead, she reached for the bag, and handed it over. There is a moment's silence as the man eyes the money. He narrows his eyes, "You know what this means, right?" He'd ask, glaring at her. "Should you choose to just give up this gil instead of the clothes, we wont' be using it to feed you tonight. You understand?" He'd say, leaning forward a fair bit. "You will go hungry so that others can eat, for your greed." She seemed to understand. She nodded her head. This was an accepted inevitability of her greed - to not be allowed to eat. Those who do not contribute in such communities do not eat. That is a simple fact of life. She picked her clothes back up, walking away. [...] Later that night, she would already be wearing her own normal clothes. She laid awake within her mat on the floor, an exhausted pillow seemed to offer little protection from the ground. The dirtied clothes seemed to be heavier than her other set of clothes that she had recently recieved - weighing down her shoulders even as she laid out on the ground. She glances to the left. The clothes he had recieved from the Pathfinders - more accurately, as a gift from Laproa Bell, for her hard work, it was, in its own way, a treasure. She closed her eyes, remembering it all too well. 'Consider it a bonus for the hard work.' The kindness shown would not soon be forgotten. And she could not well just throw away something that was given specifically for it.

I can kinda see where the interpretation is vague, namely in that it was recieved that I was "winning" in the fight but withdrawing after (and thus letting the loser move on), so aye- appreciate ya clarifying that one. Yes, the rule makes much more sense when it specifies what I tried to go for (Consenting OoCly to withdrawing, while simultaneously RP'ing that IC'ly he yielded. Which was stated very clearly IC) The fight's conclusion was vague, but I can see how they might've been confused by the wordage OoC based on how you defined it :3 (Namely, that you said that they interpreted it as "Winning but withdrawing thereafter", my intention was moreso in line with your additional rule - namely, that my character went so far as to state he yielded ICly and that he never heard her yield at all, and so that would be considered a victory for her after he had collapsed off her.) I appreciate you always taking the advice in stride and outright love ya guys for it. :3 That's why you're one of my favorite people, which is why it kinda gave me a bit of whiplash seeing such a wierd ruling that completely ignores/disregards IC. That is my big huge line and will always get me under the skin. Hopefully your friend didnt' feel insulted by my discussion with them OoCly. If they did, I need to appologise 'cause that was -not- my intention. Hopefully, there likewise was no feeling of an OoC bleed into IC (Which is what I was trying to avoid by coordinating this in tells.) Thanks again :3

My friends and I are gonna No-Life to 60 on our 'mains' for raiding, then we're gonna switch over to leveling an alt job (For me, will probably be DRK after WAR, then DRG third.) -

I almost forgot, as a derpgoon... I have, only once in my life, Elusive Jumped into the wall. Only once. And every dragoon gets just one, right?! D: As a Black Mage, I've Aetherical Manipulation'd into a random DPS trying to avoid an AoE... only to wind up in an even substantially worst AoE. <_< Often results in my death, that Aetherical Manipulation... As a Warrior, I've forgotten to turn Defiance on for taunt switches all the time. Sometimes I could swear I did only to realise I probably hit it too early (action lock) to activate it, and then cancelled it with another action. lol. I've said I was gonna holmgang / hallowed something before, pushed the button, and then realised I didn't have either skill up. This usually results in instant-death. I've been cocky as a healer in T13 and said I could "handle solo healing it" as well, only to watch my tank HP suddenly explode into a burst of candy and confetti. -

I've turned the Storm from T13 around onto the party, only to have them get plummet one-shotted when I missed picking up the adds before as a Paladin. Hmn... I'm sure I've screwed up plenty while learning fights. <.< -
attended tonight. Fun fight as always, always love the tournaments you guys host. Gotta say though, I'm a little dissapointed how things turned out. I needed to go after my fight for a RL thing that came up and was going to pull me away. Was gonna watch the other fights while handling it. We had our posts come out in a way that it was vague on who 'won' the fights ICly (She was beating at his side with a free hand, hard to say if that's a 'yield' or not, and at the same time, he nearly blacked out from the knife in his stomache.) However, this was disallowed, and the OoC scorecard trumped the IC posts. In the future, I would love to see a contingency for this. It doesn't bypass the brackets at all (One person continues), and would allow someone to continue fighting who -does- have the time to continue. I probably won't attend future events for this one, as this really disgusted me because it ignored the IC posts occuring in the fight and just payed attention to the OoC score alone. That for me crosses one of my lines, so I wish you well and fun in the future o/

I'mma be there on A'rytiss. Cooking with Ary! \o/

you're right as hell. I need to work on Caex's RPC some more. It's so incomplete compared to A'ry's. x.x I also need to learn how to draw or something to get some pictures up. I do see alot of points, and I just can't help but wonder how much of it is common social anxiety, and how much of it is genuinly feeling unable to get any breakthrough RP with people. I've very often been sitting and RP'ing with someone, only to see some kind of 'thing' breakout nearby, whcih they quickly shuffled off after. To me that's extremely strange and it's just broadcasting - like I said. It's attention-ish. But would you tell them that IC'ly? I think that's the most important thing. there's a number of times I've tried to make IC posts at people to try and garner some degree of attention, and don't even get a nod of the head back in turn. Being IC is the biggest thing for me in this capacity, and perhaps my reluctance to be OoC is the biggest issue I have (The only time I go OoC is when I have -major- issues with people.) It's moreso that these events that I see are "Story begins at X location With A group, Y events happen with B group, and Z conclusion with C group" - the RP isn't really 'open' at all, and most people seem very preoccupied with their own stories to try and mix and intertwine stories. Mind you, my major weakness is that I'm just acting out a character, and I can't write plots for shit. So perhaps I'm just not seeing good enough ways -to get in-. Oh, definitely not saying to be forced to include people. But I do think people should show consideration when choosing to RP in certain spots of high density like the Quicksand. If you want an inclusive event, do it in party at that point and disable your nearby text, or do it on the forums/in skype. But if you're gonna do an RP and have things drawing attention to yourself, what's the point of doing it there? It just feels inconsiderate at that point. I do love when people clearly are trying to involve those around them - that's a great RP'er in my book. I mostly try to RP in the afternoons since that's the usual "Peak" time.
-
Been struggling with this again. Feel like I've made a topic on this before. I tend to find myself struggling to find RP outside the quicksands. That's not to say I have any particular dislike for the RP inside the quicksands - I actually find it quite fun. But sometimes I just wanna run into people in the world, and I've found this is often times near-impossible to do without scripting events heavily up front. Then there's the people who go to the Tavern to create their own clique RP that seem to baffle me. You'll see this more often than not, where people go there specifically to meet someone to RP and seem to be moreso broadcasting "THIS IS MY PLOT ARC - but you can't join." This is probably the part that frustrates me the most. Is seeing people and feeling like an outsider to the group - not having positive interactions with people. It's noticable the most iwth FC's and plotlines... people want things to go a /very rigid/, /very specific/ way that highlights their character. In that case, why not RP somewhere else...? I dunno. I just tend to find myself for a loss on RP outside of events. Perhaps it's my own characters that create the issues. Perhaps I'm just not finding the right circles to RP with. Most of my RP is prompted - /l# "Anyone want to RP?" and then it's often one-on-one. I crave for some more open world / random RP's but even I'm at a loss for -how-.
-
Oh! I saw you out at the Tavern yesterday in Gridania. I was tempted to join you guys but I didn't want to interrupt. We should RP together sometime if you like :3

God damn it Aaron I am going to hunt you down OoC next time, shoot you with a net gun, and drag you off kicking and screaming to the event next time it happens. stop missing it!

was a fun night. Had lots of fun with our sponsers and their dice-based beers (NEVER KNEW THAT WAS A THING BUT IT WAS AWESOME.) Also never letting that one go.

*FLYING TACKLE POUNCES I'TSU* His event is pretty awesome. Lots of fun and his commentary between fights is amusing. There's some fun OoC chatter going on in between each fight and everyone seems to just enjoy themselves. Honestly, at first I thought the one fight at a time format was bad... but it feels pretty good these last two times. when I wasn't fighting, I could just sit and talk, and enjoy the fights of others. We had a lot of fun X3 Hoping for more in the future!

THANALAN! Oh what a familiar area. <3

Attended this event IC tonight (Caex'ra vaeriar) It was a smaller event, so I'm curious to see how it'll play out when it gets bigger. It was a lot of fun, and a pretty interesting system - A single amazing role can really turn a fight around in the blink of an eye, so unlike the Grindstone where it's basically lucky three times without being unlucky three times, one REALLY BIG lucky hit can really make-or-break things. You could also in theory win 10 attack rolls with their system and still lose, whcih makes for a more interesting system since you can kinda give yourself more damage as your HP gets more critical. I had a lot of fun in it and hope to attend next week. Hopefully we can get the word out to more people in the future and get more fighters in here. The two hosts were pretty cool adn chill and talked to people IC at that, so it was great. My only concern and point of suggestion would be that I think people get bored while waiting. Having the matches occur one at a time is probably not the best method for this tournament - getting another watcher or two and having fights occur simultaneously might be in your best interest, especially if you start to get bigger! I'm all-in with my support of this event though, and will happily make myself a common face in the fighting scene. Was a lot of fun this week and I'm sure my rolls will wreck me next week.

Warren and I have established a proper line of communication and are seeking a positive resolution to everything. For my part, I am sorry if I offended anyone or made them feel like I was spreading things around - I was trying to find a good way to create a line of communication and may have taken the wrong steps in this endeavor. ^^ Thank you Warren for taking the time to speak with me tonight. I know you are busy and look forward to hearing from you when you have the spare time. ^^ -

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=11063 As the topic seems to be locked, I'd like to discuss this with Warren since he wont' discuss it in game, despite polite requests for it. And to see him making that post in such an insulting way just before locking the thread is a bit... disheartening. I never said my character is allowed to b admouth, however: The RP should have ended there. I made very clear both by my IC positioning (Again, not going to be shoulder-to-shoulder rubbing against eachother... That's just an uncomfortable OoC and IC distance issue, and is more an OoC issue you have), and the gap was small enough that you could, at most, fit a single person in it. Even your own picture is rather damning - you can see me on the far left of your picture, clearly in line. So why was such a fuss made over it, when you can clearly see more a gap FOUR PEOPLE TO THE RIGHT? You tell me to grow up, but you are shirking away from discussing and seeking a peaceful resolution. 30 mintues of being ignored made me come to the forums to seek help and assistance from someone who could moderate this issue properly, since you have shown you lack the maturity and the OoC disconnect to do so yourself properly.
