  1. Sounds like a good villainous story to me! I think maaaybe the misunderstanding might have risen from the assumption that this was a recruitment purely for the sake of ERP without a character background that was well thought out. Which can happen, although I haven't seen it on these boards, but I can see how people can get a little prickly about it. I would hope every villain does not have to explain themselves to get players involved, but I think now that the explanation *is* out there, this might actually get more people interested in this arc.

    2.1 Patch Notes

I agree, the pricing for the FC houses seems pretty ridiculous, especially given that RPers don't usually grind for money. And I would have loved to see a whole neighborhood of RP FCs, to have the potential to walk around and run into random RP in a concentrated area without trolls (they are few and far in between, but I run into a few in taverns). But a part of me was also worried that if all the RP FCs had their own houses, I would rarely see them RP in a group in a public area. Why, the other day, I overheard some fascinating conversations in Coffer and Coffin, that honestly if they had their own FC housing, the nature of their conversation may have been in the FC house. Which then I would have missed out on. My character didn't get involved or eavesdrop since it is not her nature, but I enjoyed listening to it nonetheless. So... while I love the idea of FC housing, and will work to do what I can to contribute to my own FC funds, I wonder if it will diminish roleplay in public areas. I hope that does not happen, since I enjoy chance encounters.
  3. *aims cannon* ... Oh wait, you didn't want that. Sorry. Welcome Adam/Asgarn! I like the "throwing random anonymous vial" as his medical treatment. My character too is a white mage in game class, but not a white mage in character. She's a paladin in training! And what Halpask said about the wiki profile. Put one up if you feel so inclined. It helps people get a better feel for your character. Some use it to throw in a random detail during an interaction, which I love! Anyways, if you see my character around, feel free to say hello!
  4. I think Darkfae's idea is a great one! I for one would love to visit the Bronze Lake and appreciate that a FC is trying to make it an IC event.
  5. AOL chatrooms! Wow. I didn't think people remember those days. I was young and did not know what RP was when I stumbled into an RDI chatroom. Luckily someone there responded to my "What is going on here?" with some friendly advice. Aaand the rest is history. I've been addicted to RP since. Anyways... welcome! I understand your need to play different personalities, I used to be a total alt-aholic in every other game I played, so I suspect it will catch up to me in FFXIV as well. While Roen is not a puncher of faces, she would certainly be sympathetic to your lalafell's plight. Hopefully we can run into each other someday! Feel free to poke me in game for an encounter if you wish.
  6. I too would love to encounter more people outside of the cities! It usually needs a prearranged meeting, but it makes some encounters more organic in my opinion. And your wiki for Orum is great. Lots of fantastic imagery there. Definitely gives him a menacing air. I'd love to meet him one day! Feel free to /tell in game or PM me, I love random RP... even when it's kind of prearranged.
  7. Walking around restocking lantern oil... what a fantastic idea!! Welcome to Balmung Elyscia! Your character looks charming! I too made a sort of a displaced foreigner to make up for the fact that I was new to FFXIV and lore. So that definitely helps with not knowing every ins-and-outs of Eorzea. AND my first exposure to roleplaying was with just ONE other player! (it was tabletop D&D though, years ago) As for how to get with the roleplaying community, I think everyone already gave you some great advice. I too am a fan of roleplaying in /say, since if people are close enough to you, or you are talking in a normal voice, some others should be able to overhear. And it does allow for others to get involved! Like Kiht said, roleplaying events are also great ways to meet folks. Grindstone is an example of a good opportunity to watch or participate even as an audience, and I got to meet Kiht! There is another one coming up this Saturday at Coffer and Coffin Tavern. I know it is a tavern social setting, but people will be showing up there looking to roleplay with others. Just keep that in mind when you bring your not-so-social-maybe-even-super-shy character around. Just make up an excuse that she would be there! I know I've come up with an IC reason to go even though my character wouldn't show up to a tavern just looking to hang out. So anyways, I hope to see you in game soon, and if you see Roen around, she's quiet but a friendly sort. Feel free to say hi! I welcome random RP.
  8. I have never done it, but I think this is a fantastic idea.

Welcome to Balmung! Your lalafell's pics look absolutely adorable! Especially because he looks like a pirate! I welcome random RP. Since my character visits Gridania now and then, and has a soft spot for Costa Del Sol, hopefully I will run into you!
  10. I never knew these woes/hazards of being a roegadyn.
  11. Welcome Grina! I usually am on early on weekends and afternoons on Thursdays, so feel free to poke me for RP if you want! (I liked the maurauder too, but that's because of the trailer and I thought the character looked awesome) (where is the pally looove?) (*cough* I digress) So... welcome!

    No way!

All you Tia's *are* related right?
  13. Welcome Alan! What everyone else said about the linkshell. I grew to really like it. It has the potential to expand your social circle. And having arrived in FFXIV just a month ago, I've found that people posting here really mean it when they say they welcome random RP. PM them, walk up to them or just say hi, they will respond most likely. I can never turn down a random RP myself. Welcome to Balmung and hope to see you in game soon!
  14. I was sort of in the same boat with trying to figure out why my not-a-social-butterfly of a character would attend this, even though I think it's a great idea to get new and old players meeting each other. Roen would definitely be drawn to "helping out the Calamity victims" cause of it all too. She cannot offer much gil, but can volunteer her time for any job needed!

    Newbie on deck!

DDO! I so tried to get into that RPing online with our actual tabletop group. It never did work out though. Welcome to Balmung! If you run into Roen in game, feel free to say hi! I am always up for random RP.

    Hammer Time!

Bitchy resting face... HAHA! Welcome! As a relative newbie myself, I have found this community to be very helpful and receptive. And Roen runs around lost... ALL THE TIME. >.> I think Ul'dah is the only place she doesn't get lost now. Kind of. So if you bump into her scratching her head or turned around in Gridania, feel free to say hi!

Late to the party... ... but I love your avatar. And the wombat. Carry on.

    Hello!!

Comic books were my first love to storytelling! I thought I was alone in trying to come up with character's origin story... Although some like the X-men I had to go back to all the old issues to discover everything that had been written about them (the original members I mean) and I loved it! Welcome to Balmung! RPing in an MMORPG is a new experience for me as well, but now I have discovered a new way to enjoy a game that I long thought I had grown tired of. Also, I perused through quite a few character wiki pages before I formulated my own character's background. So you may get some ideas there. Although there are a LOT Of character profiles, be warned! Feel free to approach Roen if you see my character in game! I am always up for random RP.

    Howdy

Some great advice given to here already. As Gharen suggested, I started with looking at the Linkshell Hall to see if any Free Company seems to fit your character's story or background when I first joined the RPC forum. That turned out to be a good start for me. And feel free to approach Roen in game. I am always up for random RP (Except in dungeons)! (although if I am standing around not saying a thing, sometimes I am zoned out a little. Then please poke me in /tell) From one newcomer to another, I can tell you, Balmung RP community is pretty nice and approachable!
  20. Ooh, fun thread! This is a classic U2 song, but it is so perfect for Roen. uY7LemSwe7s The lyrics capture her state of mind, her desire to start anew and find a fresh start. But it is the music that captures her heart, gives that sense of being on the precipice, about to take a free fall into ... something. I also can imagine her racing down on a snowy hill, full speed on a mount, letting the rush of the wind wash everything away.
  21. Those painting pics are fantastic! What a nifty idea! I LOOOVE your affinity for cursed characters. What a lovely twist to give your character a flavor. I hope my character's path cross yours someday soon. (Oh and all I did on City of Heroes was role play. SO FUN.)
  22. I. Basic Info Characters: Roen Deneith, Brynnalia Callae, Nabi Kharlu Primary character: Roen Deneith II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Light to heavy. I am flexible. It also depends what I am doing. I mostly prefer to prearrange/schedule RP, though if someone pokes me randomly I will try and accommodate! It is easiest if you contact me via PMs or tell in-game if you are interested. If you see me running around as any class other than Paladin, I am probably OOC! Also if you see the RP tag, walk-ups are welcome! Views on RP combat and injuries: I try to avoid RP combat with people I don't know, but this is not a steadfast rule. I believe realistic combat can (and mostly should) result in injuries, some even serious and lasting ones; since that can affect any character's story, it should be a cooperative effort. Usually there is assumed consent among players that trust and know each other, which is why I prefer it. That being said, I will definitely ignore god moding. Views on IC romance: I think it adds a different emotional weight to the story as well as a certain dimension to the character. I am also sucker for the feels! And the ships! But I like it to be part of the natural progression of the story and character development. I am also a strict believer in what is IC stays IC. I do not blend/bleed and am wary of those who bring IC drama into OOC aspect of things and visa versa. I am also quite happily taken OOC. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): This is absolutely essential to round out a character. Every roleplayed story needs allies, enemies, and relationships to make it rich and complex. Some of my best roleplaying experiences have come from being moved by another character's arc and having had direct involvement in it. I am probably painting with broad strokes here, but non-romantic relationships are a must! Views on lore: It adds to the immersion if you are consistent with the environment around you. I do not consider myself a lore expert, so I read what I can and try my best. I will likely make some mistakes along the way, and I don't mind it being pointed out to me! On the same note, I can't be too harsh to others either for making similar mistakes, as long as they are trying and and it is not completely alien. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Linkshells should be strictly IC OR OOC. My /say is always in character. Whispers and parties are usually assumed OOC by me unless I see otherwise.
