Naive Young Wanderer Needs Development.
Gwenneth replied to Vidchell's topic in Chronicled Connections
KINDRED SPIRIT! *coughs* But really: Viral seems like a terribly fun person. Reima's a lighthearted, free-spirited soul who's after certain "treasures" herself, and I'm always up for random RP if you ever wish to arrange an accidental meeting. -
Hullo! I'm happily back to FFXIV and seeking to branch out into the roleplaying community here, so I would very much like to be placed on the waiting list. I'll be sure to reach out to one of the Leaders!
-
Hello, and welcome!! If you're looking at widening your RP circle, checking out one of the OOC RP linkshells might help! Folks tend to arrange meet-ups that way. There's also the "Making Connections" boards!
-
Welcome to the community, and I hope you have a great time making a home here! As another person who knows how it is to schedule gaming around a packed schedule, I'm really impressed with how many activities FFXIV offers for people with limited time. Especially with the Gold Saucer having launched, you should have loads of fun when you can!

This is a touch in progress, but my RPC Wiki entry can be found below! https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Reima_Awen

I've been casually looking into FCs for a bit now, and was really intrigued by Aeon's story. It...jives really well with the rough background I have for my character, so I may have to step up and apply if you accept applications from newer players!
-
http://conjurer-reima.tumblr.com/ I've recently started using this more frequently for my Hyur, Reima. Primarily IC thoughts and inspiration, with a spattering of (denoted) OOC here and there.
-
I'd affectionately named my Chocobo "Launcelir" as a play on the name of a knight in a story that Reima enjoys. I wanted the name to have a San d'Orian feel for the sake of my FFXI nostalgia.

Did...did you just quote Billy Idol? Did you just quote a Billy Idol song in your subject title!?!? All of my respect. But seriously: Welcome back to FFXIV and to the RPC! I'm another soul who's been playing off and on since the Alpha/Beta V1.0 days, but here to stay and trying to get into the RP community. The collective of Balmung and the RPC itself has proven to be amazing, so I'm sure you'll be in great hands!
-
Welcome, and huzzah for joining us all! It can definitely be a touch difficult to start getting yourself into things (speaking from current, shy-person experience), but I would take the advice that a lot of folks seem to give and just jump right in! Everyone in the community is extremely welcoming, and will be sure to help you along the way. Hoping to see you in game!
-
Welcome to the game, to Balmung, and to the RPC! Your character seems like quite the neat person, and you definitely already have a background and personality that will work as you make your way through the game and learn the lore. Fortunately, the community here is so very, very helpful and welcoming, so I'm sure you'll get up to speed in no time! Looking forward to seeing you in the game!

I love seeing threads like these~ When I'd first created Reima, I really just enjoyed her name and the way it sounded; something that randomly came to me, and that was that. At the tail end of last year, though, I got curious as to what the etymology involved with her name might be. It turns out that "Awen", in old Welsh traditions, is the term for the "inspiration" and personified Muse of bards and other creative artists. It was adopted into real world druidic circles and often shown as a symbol comprised of three lines spreading out like rays of light. Those lines are often said to represent earth, sea, and air. Pretty awesome for someone who's a Conjurer and has control over those things, eh?
-
:? What? Oh, nothing. The fact that I immediately realized what you were talking about with "Birdcage-level shit made me "BAHAHAHA". <3
-
Thank you both so much for the swift replies (and Sounsyy, I was hoping you would appear!). This not only answers my questions and clarifies things, but provides what I needed to fill in the lines for my character, as well as leaving some doors slightly ajar for her future. I adore the idea of everything being interconnected in one way or another behind the scenes, and OOCly figuring out how all of the mumbo-jumbo works is a...ah...hobby, so thank you again! Well, Conjury (despite the routes of the name Conjury) is not really a summoning art. It's more a discourse with nature. Conjurers meditate on their spells, feel the nature around them, then focus that connection to bend and shape nature to their desire. In 1.0, this included all six elements. (Because Elementals were of all elements of the world, not just three. >< ) So while I don't believe a Conjurer would be able to call a Carbuncle or Sprite... I do think that a Conjurer would be able to communicate with one. I realized that I worded my question totally wrong like a silly-face! I was moreso wondering--hypothetically--if an Arcanist would be be able to utilize "external" aether for their summoning instead of their "internal" aether, since there's a known difference. Communing with nature and Elementals and asking to "borrow" the aether for that purpose. Say if as a Conjurer I am able to hear and communicate with the lesser elementals (like Carbuncle, etc) as you mentioned may be possible: Could, through that discourse and meditation used in Conjury, permission be granted to use some of the techniques of Arcanima? It seems a nice idea and now I'm wondering if it's plausible. My character is a Conjurer, but dipping into Arcanima ICly while trying to maintain as much of a connection to the elementals as she can (in short). Apologies if I'm being confusing--I think I may need more coffee, but I enjoy the discussion!

Good day! I've been giving a lot of thought to my character's short-term goals as I prepare to shimmy her into the RP community and (finally) type up her background, and in doing so found myself wondering about any possible connections between Hydaelyn's Elementals, the Fae, Carbuncle, and summoned Primal Egi. I'm hoping that our resident "Lorekeepers" can both correct me if I'm wrong and offer some explanation while I work on siphoning all of that lore myself. Forgive me if this post is poorly presented, as well. Trying my best not to be confusing, so here goes: Conjurers are able to draw forth borrowed power from the Aether of the world around them; gifted by the Elementals (which--according to the 1.0 Lore--really cover all six basic elements). Arcananima allows for the manipulation of Aether to summon forth a carbuncle from that Aether. Scholars will form a bond with one of the Fae that--from what I understand so far--are summoned in much the same way as a carbuncle. I've seen it mentioned somewhere on the forum (though I wish I can remember where) that the Faeries are potentially similar to Elementals, even if only vaguely. Summoners are able to call forth an Egi of some Primals in locations where the element of that Primal is known to be strongest. This one struck me, because the "ritual" for doing so seemed to be very much a combination of Arcanima and borrowing power from the Elementals or external Aether--or at least that it could be done that way from a roleplaying standpoint, instead of just using internal aether. So, for the sake of trying to hash out pieces of my character's Self (and just plain having something neat to think about because I like to know these weird things), is there some connection between all of the above when you peer past the curtain and into the Aether that's coursing through the world? Can a Conjurer who has earned the trust of the Elementals utilize the "external" Aether of Hydaelyn to call out a Carbuncle? Can Faeries, Carbuncle, and Egi all be potential manifestation of the Elementals in their own way, if not Elementals themselves? Is there a connection there at all? Can there be one? These are the burning questions I've been mulling over this weekend, huzzah!

Welcome! Oh my goodness, Fea, your character sounds absolutely charming! I feel like he and Reima share a good couple of things in common, haha! It's good to have you over on the RP side of things. As someone else who's got a lot of non-MMO roleplaying and forum RP experience, it can be a little daunting to break into the community, but everyone is so supportive and encouraging to newer players like us. And I wouldn't worry so much about English not being your first language! I never would have guessed, because you write really well! It's also good to hear of another Middle Earth and Tamriel fan! Makes me sad that I didn't have time to delve more into TESO and LOTRO. But again--welcome aboard FFXIV and the RPC! Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Welcome, V'yaron! I'm another long-time roleplayer (and occasional WoW player) who's technically new to FFXIV, thanks to a Hiatus Parade since 2010. I can tell you though that this community is one of the most creative, supportive, and welcoming that you'll encounter, and we're happy to have you aboard! I'm finding that playing through the game's content fills you in on a lot of the world lore, since the writers seem to adore little details. <3 I've been trying to level myself just so I can get my fill of it. I hope you have an easy time of getting settled into the game, though, and looking forward to meeting you in the world! Feel free to hit me up if you need another newish soul around.

Thanks so much everyone! I hear you about the hole you can dig from being shy, Intaki. Thank you for the extra nudge to just get out there and join in. I think I've been a touch nitpicky about how developed my character idea is and how much knowledge of the lore I have under my belt, but I know it really doesn't matter. I'm such a stickler for detail, but if it keeps holding me back I'm going to go crazy. DEEP BREATHS!

Hello, everyone! I'm Reima, and I'm happy to be consistently back to Final Fantasy XIV after some Real Life distractions. We all know how pesky those are! Despite having over a decade of "heavy"-style roleplaying experience under my belt between tabletop and a long stint on Neverwinter Nights, I've always had a really hard time breaking into the RP community in the MMO scene. I can't quite say why, but I end up feeling too timid or overwhelmed. It's something that I'm really hoping to change, as Balmung is full of wonderful, creative people, and after supporting the game (off and on due to Real Life) since the V1.0 Alpha, it's about time I got over my awkward hurdles, eh? Eorzea makes me feel so happy and nostalgic, and exploring that world is something that's much better done with others! In the real world, I'm a twenty-something business lady with her head in the clouds. I love to read--especially fantasy and science-fiction--and have a general addiction to the arts. I'm also a big fan of the Final Fantasy franchise who fancies its older titles (yay S/NES!), though my supreme favorites are IX, VI, XI, and whichever incarnation of Ivalice you prefer. Maybe that's why this game delights me so much. I'm always up for off-the-cuff, casual roleplaying (as I don't have a Linkshell or Free Company at the moment), so if you see Reima wandering around somewhere, feel free to say hello!

Oh goodness, this is an incredible idea! Unfortunate hiatus on my part, but extremely fortunate to come back to this linkshell being so well-received. I'll definitely be contacting someone for an invite. ^__^

I. Basic Info Characters:Reima Awen Primary character:Reima Awen Linkshells:None as of yet. Primary RP linkshell:None as of yet. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to Heavy, currently. While I favor heavy RP and want to immerse myself in the world, I’m still learning both the game and its lore and working to develop a solid foundation for both. Because of this, I can still be found OOCly leveling or running quests, as an example. Views on RP combat and injuries: I have experience with text-based combat (some systems with dice-rolls and some without), and am always willing to learn others’ preferences. I enjoy roleplaying my injuries and illnesses as it adds to immersion, though I prefer to be consulted and discuss any potential “permanent” injuries to my characters OOCly. Views on IC romance: I am currently not looking for it, for personal reasons, but I have an “if it happens, it happens” policy on organic roleplaying. Reima may well take a fancy to someone, even if she won’t pursue it. Others are welcome to develop feelings for my characters, but please let me know OOCly if you find that it’s happening. I like to discuss those things so that neither party is made uncomfortable. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): As with the above, I have an “if it happens, it happens” policy, but for very personal roles (such as direct family) I'd like to be consulted about my backstory beforehand. Aside from that, I feel like anything that randomly happens while roleplaying only adds to the character’s growth and experiences, and I welcome it! Views on lore: I’m the kind of person who will read books and books on a setting’s lore just to be sure that I’ve got my facts straight, but sometimes the facts just aren’t there and are left up to interpretation; instead acting as a base line. So, I'll always adhere to the lore where I can, respect it when the "blanks" need to be filled in, and welcome new information and corrections. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): They’re there to be used, but not everyone (or every group) uses them the same way. I stick to /say for any character dialogue (with OOC designated accordingly) and /tell for discreet IC whispers and OOC conversations. My use of party and LS chat are determined by the group using them. III. Other Info Country:United States Timezone:EST Contact info:I welcome both PMs on the Forum and In-Game Mail. Hey guys: First of all, I want to thank all of you for how amazing this discussion has been. I've been keeping up with it, but have also been away traveling for a bit. x__x Sounsy, you totally jogged my memories of being a Conjurer pre-Calamity, in 1.0. (Reima's been around since the original Alpha days). It's been so long that I'd almost forgotten that we originally had control over all six elements. Also, K'ailia's mention of Conjurers who exist outside of Gridania and whether or not they'd be more effected by the elements prominent in those locations only has me thinking more and more about why Conjurers would suddenly be completely incapable of communing with the other three elements from an RP standpoint. In Reima's case, I wanted to give her a little story concerning the character's transition from 1.0 to 2.0. Six years ago, before the Calamity in 1.0, she was a Conjurer in Gridania. During the events of the Calamity, she was relocated to Ul'dah (yadda yadda, backstory elements that will eventually make their way from my head and notebooks to the Wiki). When I picked the game back up in 2.0, an amnesiac Conjurer Reima was making her way back to Gridania in order to decipher the voices of the elementals that she'd never stopped hearing--however faint--even while in Ul'dah. Remembering that she (at one time at least) had direct control over all six elements just adds a bit of validity to the idea that she could still commune with all six elements, and perhaps once again learn to harness them. So now I'm just wondering about the points made on 1.0's lore. If the technical aspects of Conjurer were retconned, but the lore never was, then...does the canon just become what we make of it?

Clearly we haven't been arguing enough then. We can change that! Your eyeball looks weird. I... I love this community. Oh my word.
-
I'm sorry for causing a debate, everyone. ;__; I've been reading over this also-relevant thread on the side, and I really appreciate all of the feedback and discussion so far. I'm admittedly a huge lore-stickler, so being able to play a character while working with lore is really important to me, and I'm learning quite a bit from these posts and others on the boards.

Reima is actually incredibly fond of music, and has some skill with the wood flute. There's a part of her that believes it brings her closer to the elements and to Hydaelyn, since there's always a natural music in the air. She loves to sing, as well, but for her it's a very private thing (mostly because she doesn't think she's very good).
