But cure and esuna can't be the end-all-be-all remedy to everything in Eorzea, otherwise there wouldn't be a hospital in Ul'dah, or the Warmwine Sanatorium that treats wounded veterans, or there wouldn't be people in Ishgard and Revenant's Toll dying of pox constantly. So I like to play healing magic as emergency treatment that stabilizes the patient and prevents death. So if someone takes a sword to the gut in the Grindstone, healing magic seals the wound and stops the bleeding. Perhaps the wound can still get infected, it's likely still sore, and not fully healed in the least. But the immediate danger to life has been taken care of. Continued exertion might reopen that wound later or it may get infected. It's like "First-line" treatment. Obviously it has to be followed up with something. More magical healing or traditional medicines (of which there's lots of info about in BTN's item descriptions). As far as scarring goes, I tend to base that upon the severity of the injury. Sounsyy took a spear through her shoulder in an early Grindstone. It didn't come out smoothly and healing magicks were attempted before its proper removal. I decided that this would leave a scar. Quoting Sounsy as this is pretty much spot-on with how I roleplay my own receiving and recovery from wounds, and how--as an IC healer--I explain the effects of my magics, herbs, etc. When Reima uses "Cure" in a pinch, I will emote or send a Tell to the patient describing the way the spell itself feels as it takes, that bleeding is slowing, the pain is a bit numbed, and that the body's natural mending process is accelerated, but that they will need further treatment and to refrain from aggravating the injury. Grindstone competitors and the like are free to do with that as they will, of course, since there is a huge event trying to proceed. As it was said above, if healing magic (or any other healing method) was the lickety-split end-all-be-all, then life in Eorzea would be a lot different.

I am more than willing to act as a friendly, neighborhood healer if so needed! I adore things like this!

I would be one hundred percent down for that. ^__^

How to find the balance between overpowered and underpowered?
Gwenneth replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I'll keep this one short since I'm in the office, but... I often worry about "underpowered being annoying" myself, since I play that sort of character. It's not for any great story-purpose, but rather who she is as a person; a physically weak, aetherically-sensitive "back-row" kind of individual. It's balanced out by the fact that Reima's strengths aren't in power or ability, but in the sheer force of her Will that drives her attempts to endure and succeed when there are those who believe that she can't. That right there is a certain type of strength that sometimes folks tend to overlook, or not take seriously. It's that latter bit that always leaves me concerned and wondering: "Do I come off as just a useless damsel? Do the motivational speeches and determined soul make up for not being able to face combat or great powers as well as others? Do I gimp myself too much in an attempt to be believable and real? Am i just a liability?" But at the same time, I saw "screw it", because if you are an "underpowered" character, as I discussed with Draco today, as long as that character still has their own set of strengths to balance out the lack of "power", then that gives you an interesting backdrop against which to grow, develop, and learn in a variety of different ways. People will find and appreciate that, and--as with all great collaborations--use the strengths you do have to fill the holes in what they may lack. -
Somewhat related, but I've brought up the ancient Allagan language in a minor way ICly, and tend to portray it as a bastardization of Greek (what with SE using that motif for parts of that particular civilization). Toying with that particular nugget carefully, of course, considering the lack of lore. This is usually when i call in Sounsy with my Phone-A-Friend option.

For Reima, it would be a thick, strong meat curry laden with dried fruits, mushrooms, and root vegetables. Dates, raisins, dried apricots, apple, carrots, parsnips, and popoto, with strong use of cinnamon. "Autumn Curry" is something she's made for herself before in an attempt at bringing together the "tastes" of all the places she's called home. It would be a suitable last meal out of principle in her eyes. A desert of soft lavender cookies and a milky chai tea afterward would be the perfect end, she thinks.

The Tonberry's Blade (New story in the works)

Why, this sounds like just the sort of thing I'd want to meddle in. Definitely interested! -
balmung Newcomer to Eorzea in Need of friends!
Gwenneth replied to Maya Oreyth's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hello there, and welcome back! I'm always willing to make new friends (though I'm admittedly very shy myself), so feel free to send me a Tell in-game or hail me down if I'm running about! I'll see if I can't catch you when I'm on as well! -
balmung Looking to get back into RP
Gwenneth replied to Jezune Garinthe's topic in Chronicled Connections
Welcome to the RP-side! And oh my goodness, I have a feeling that Jezune and Reima would get along really well, personality-wise. If you ever feel compelled to hit up a cheerful, plucky young conjurer with a penchant for good-intentioned meddling, feel free to shoot me a Tell! I'll see if I can't catch you in game~ -
balmung Advertisement: Courier for hire! (and general rp)
Gwenneth replied to Xzenivar's topic in Chronicled Connections
Oh, yes! I love the concept! It's such a down-to-earth thing that could lead to so many misadventures! Reima used to act as a part-time courier in Ul'dah on behalf of the Weavers' Guild, and later on after a move to Gridania. Old habits die hard whenever she's back there, but now that she's ICly relocated to Ishgard she may need a little bit of help getting things back and forth between north and south. I'll have to hit you up in game, most definitely. ^__^ -
Grand Tournament of the Fury [Idea tossing about]
Gwenneth replied to Draco Nobis's topic in Chronicled Connections
Some quick thoughts while I'm at work: I'd like to piggyback off of Kagero and say that it may be worth holding the "set" of events every-other-month, or even once per quarter if you'd like a slightly larger gap. This will help prevent burnout and perhaps make it seem like more of a larger to-do. I'm also digging Sarnai's idea of maybe holding a "finals" bracket as a separate event between the champions of all four categories. I think this will ultimately depend on what event spacing and frequency is decided. As for staffing: As much as Reima would love to sit back and watch like an overly-excited little birb, I can oocly and ICly offer my assistance as a healer between matches. -
Reima is...too trusting to a fault, and leaves herself open to being taken advantage of by those who would exploit her kindness.. In her desire to make those around her happy, she usually ends up forgetting her own wants and needs, and ends up becoming the proverbial doormat or running herself ragged in the process. She prefers to bottle up her own troubles so as not to “burden others”, which leads to depression and anxiety and perpetuates the issue. She has, admittedly, a difficult time managing her stress and will seek solitude before assistance. She can be infuriatingly headstrong, especially when it comes to aiding others or in doing what she feels to be right, and is like to put herself straight in the path of danger through her good intentions. Once she gets an idea in her head or finds something to cling to and fight for, it’s difficult to make her budge on the matter without protest. On the other hand, shyness and bouts of uncertainty will keep many of her thoughts internalized. Some also find Reima to be too cheerful to the point of being absurd, and assume that she’s just running from reality.

balmung Homecoming? Seeking Ishgardian Connections!
Gwenneth posted a topic in Chronicled Connections
Reima has recently journeyed north to Ishgard on the tail of some personal matters, but has found herself drawn--as a healer and hearer--into assisting the warn-torn realm where she can. Her nature can’t abide leaving the suffering to suffer alone when there’s something she could do about it, after all! Her usually-cheerful and enthusiastic disposition are wavering a bit with how out of place she remains as a foreigner, however, and despite how strong she feels her connection to Ishgard might be. I have recently finished the 3.0 MSQ and am easing back into becoming a full-time roleplayer (with the exception of some small progression here and there), and would love to become more involved in mutual storytelling, new friendships, and shared experiences with other characters, especially as Reima learns to adapt to the world she’s thrust herself into. She’s a bit of a romantic in a literary sense, wide-eyed and idealistic at times, and a self-made historian with a knack for good-intentioned meddling where she shouldn’t. For my part, I’m a long-time, experienced roleplayer who enjoys all sorts of stories and all manner of characters. In the days of 1.0, I’d roleplayed the character that would become Reima as being of Ishgardian blood. When 2.0 came about and real-life demanded I take a long break, I decided to write that character off as an amnesiac for the sake of giving myself time to explore the Lore a bit further, but when Heavensward was announced...well, it really did feel like I was ready to “bring her home” and recover her true name one day. Out of character, I’m enchanted by the expanded world that Heavensward has provided and by the culture of Ishgard that’s been painted for us, and I’m eager to explore all that it is with others who share a similar desire. My time-zone is EST, and I work 8:00 - 5:00 every weekday, but I am around most weeknights and throughout the weekend. Scheduling specific dates can be difficult, so always feel free to just poke me if we’re both online. Of late I’ve been in a perpetual state of “walk-ups and random RP welcome”, though, so if you see me about anywhere, feel free to grab me in character! -
I would absolutely love to get involved with this, so I'll have to shoot one of you a message once I'm out of work! Outside of my wanting to expand my RP-horizons, Reima has her reasons for running off to Ishgard and likely poking into things she shouldn't, so I can send one of the LS leadership a PM if you need more character-related specifics. <3

I shall totally join in on the roleplaying with you~! Might well be that we've passed one another in Ul'dah or Gridania, eh? I'll see if I can't find you in-game!

I'll confess, this week has been such a slice of the Seven Hells that I can't not post in this thread. (And also your art is adorable.) *flops down, gets poked at by wayward Moogles*

Welcome back to FFXIV, Khuja'a! And welcome to Balmung, also! Your character seems to be an interesting fellow to speak with. If you're ever in need of assistance with content--or a spot of random roleplaying--please feel free to hit me up!

Hello there! While I have a strict policy of never planning interpersonal relationships, Reima happens to be an upbeat person who moonlights as an aetherial researcher, and also happens to be looking for other scholars of the magical and historical vein (in my own attempt at interacting more). I'd frankly love a chance to meet Alekse, so feel free to hit me up!

This is definitely something I'd love to utilize for communication and RP outside of the game. Feel free to add: Reima.Awen

Does your character have a trinket of some sort?
Gwenneth replied to Kage's topic in Character Workshop
Reima keeps a sliver of crystal, suspended from a chain that she wears as a necklace. She affectionately refers to it as a family heirloom, though she can't quite remember if that's the case. Either way, she keeps it as a good luck charm! She also has a fondness for collecting music boxes. While she doesn't actively travel about with the lot of them, she makes a point to ensure that at least one of them is close at hand for longer sojourns. -
Hello everyone! While I'm a long-time,experienced roleplayer, doing so through an MMO-style style platform is still a new experience for me (since I've never quite counted NWN!). With the help of my wonderful Free Company, though, I'm finally feeling confident enough to try and get past the shyness and more actively expand my connections into the wider RP community. I figured that this would be a good place to start! I apologize though, as doing this is new for me too! -------------------- Reima has been on the lookout for those she might learn from, and who might help her riddle out the myriad mysteries of the world and its eras past. While I prefer to save any further details about the character for roleplaying itself, it's no secret among Reima's merchant acquaintances that the girl holds a deep fascination for antiques and gewgaws from around the whole of Hydaelyn. She's persistent in her search for the stories and the histories, however much she tries to remain discreet about any excitement on the topic, and has been digging for any leads toward those ends. In her eagerness, she's also developed a penchant for sticking her nose into things that would have better been left untouched. But, ah, such is the nature of discovery! Perhaps you, too, share this in common, and Fate has crossed your paths? Perhaps you've heard through the grapevine about an absent-minded courier trying to dredge up knowledge and secret both? Perhaps you've taken an interest for benevolent—or nefarious—purpose? Perhaps we can speak, and meet IC! -------------------- ***I'm a huge fan of organic roleplaying and welcome it with anyone, since it's the telling of shared stories—both lighthearted and dark--with a variety of different characters that makes the hobby so wonderful. So, even if you don't think you fall into the above, please feel free to hit me up anyway!
