Sure thing, whenever you're up for it. I'm not the one with the backlog ha.

(Can't remember if I ever filled this out when I was here originally, regardless I'm sure it was pruned away ages ago. So might as well start it up again!) I. Basic Info Characters: Shippuu Hecatonchires, Arngrim Rhynhaemr, Khaelan Al'des Primary character: Shippuu Linkshells: None Currently Primary RP linkshell: " " II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Generally Medium to Heavy. I enjoy just chatting with people, but get far more fun out of RP'ing most of the time, though I know very well that it can be a real pain to be in character ALL the time. We're still real people behind these characters afterall. Views on RP combat and injuries: I enjoy RP combat as long as both people know how to properly do it. Text based combat can be colorful and fun, but it ultimately can go nowhere at all. I prefer to only engage in text based RP combat if both parties find it acceptable that they may lose the fight, as losing can often prove to be far more engaging and character building than winning can. I also like to throw in some kind of random chance into text based combat, throwing in dice rolls or /randoms can be a real fun way to keep the engagement spontaneous and unknown for both parties. Above all else though, I prefer to act out any particular fights within applicable game mechanics. If a game supports duels or some form of PvP I will generally choose this option first and foremost. Back in my days of FFXI me and an old friend (Whom's characters were rivals to an extent) would often have excursions in private PvP brenner matches and such. These fights were some of the most fun I've had in any game (Even if I did lose most of them.) As far as injury goes, I'm open to just about anything, as healing magicks are abundant. Crippling defeats are all plausible though I generally will frown upon death as a viable outcome. My primary character would sooner flee, use a cheap trick to escape, or other forms of persuasion to avoid the guillotine. (I didn't invest this much time into a character to have him keel off randomly.) Besides, these characters are works of fiction, primarily authored by ourselves, so generally if my character is to face his end, I'd prefer to orchestrate those details myself. Views on IC romance: I could take it or leave it. It can be fun I suppose, as long as it doesn't get too bogged down. Some people have problems separating real and fiction when it comes to these things a lot, which leads to drama and all kinds of messes. I've seen guilds crumble from badly handled situations stemming from IC (and sometimes IRL) romance shenanigans. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Also could take it or leave it. Depends on the character if they have the possibility for siblings etc. Some people like to have character siblings that are purely NPC so that they can use them to better develop their primary character. Generally has few downsides that I've ever encountered. Views on lore: I'm a big lore junkie, and every game I step into I take tons of time delving through the game's lore to make sure my character fits within the setting. I generally dislike people who just make up their own headcanon for games with established settings and lore for so many reasons. The lore is there as a guideline, to be used as building blocks to develop an interesting and entertaining character. If you're just going to take a billion artistic liberties with the established setting, then why are you even playing in the setting in the first place? Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Not really sure how to answer this one to be honest. I've RP'd across so many different games and mediums, with each one having slightly different rules regarding these kinds of things. Generally I just go with whatever is common practice within the current game I'm playing. /say being good for general RP. Often Linkshell or guild chat is reserved for OOC talk only, etc. etc.

I may have to snag one of those art trades from you some time myself.

Someone mentioned mead for everyone? I'm in if you're buyin'. But on a serious note, welcome aboard and so-on and so-forth. I'm the resident grouch, so that's about all you'll get from me~ :tonberry:

I'm still up in the air on what I'll do come release to be honest. I need beta to figure out if I'm gonna bench my old character and pick up with a newer one or even create a fresh new one. I really can't wait to take a look at some new customization options. Mid-February can't come soon enough!

Hope you guys had fun. Ended up not being able to make it cause I forgot I had tickets to Zarkana tonight. So I ended up being busy there .

The long and short of it - 'height' in FFXIV.
Folken replied to Satisiun's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I'd be happy to participate in any experiments to compare and develop a graph to use for looking at character heights. Once we have access to beta etc. and given the rules such as NDAs and such. Until then, all I can really contribute is this picture. Which shows a below average midlander (Don't think it's the smallest height, but maybe pretty close.) Next to my Roe who is full height. I could be a bit wrong on the midlander's size, as I can't seem to recall if that character was shorter than normal or not. [spoil][/spoil] -
Please post links to sources when putting up news like this. Even if it's to obvious sources like the lodestone or the dev blog.

Hmm, I'll consider joining. Not particularly thrilled on the prize offered though, so don't know if I'll even waste the time considering it's only 10 winners globally across all countries that can enter.
-
I don't think that'll be accurate. There will still be an overwhelming abundance of female miqo'te. That will never change. Though there will certainly be a strong population of male miqo'te.

I'd be down to try it at least. For anyone who cares, my skype info is: tehshawnzy

Yes, my intent was not to insult or tell anyone what to do, but was just pointing out certain details that are currently established within the game. Knowing Siobhain is relatively new to setting and game it's best to get things understood correctly the first time, lest someone go on believing one thing and then metaphorically having the rug swept from under their feet. Basically, it's easier to retcon and fix things when the idea is still fresh and young, rather than later when time investment and more attachments to the character are made. To use an old idiom, it's best to nip certain problems in the bud.

Yeah, I guess that's just my beef. She looks like an Elezen to me, and it just brings to wonder why make her a Roegadyn if you want pointy ears like an elf? Just seems like an odd trait for a race that has predominately large rounded ears. It'd be similar to a plainsfolk lalafell having rounded ears, or a miqo'te having dog ears or some such. Just seems odd and bends the lore a smidge more than I'm particularly comfortable with. But maybe it's just me, I'm not particularly fond of elf-types so it probably rustles my jimmies to see a race I like be given elfish traits. And hell, I could be proven completely wrong once ARR comes out and they very well might have the option for more pointy ears. In which case I'll just have to suck it up and eat these words. But currently, all evidence within game currently dictates a certain way. So eh. Even then, there's easily tons of interesting ways to explain such pointy ears, I'd just avoid any backstory for'em to include them being like that when she was born. There's plenty of religious or traditional forms of body modifications that a more spiritual race like the Hellsguard would likely perform. Just some more food for thought.

Was just mulling over the work in progresses again, liking how they're all coming out, some lovely poses and concepts. Though it's such a shame there was a pass on Halone's shield emphasis, I always pictured her like a greek warrior woman type figure with that shield. Reminiscent of some old statues like this one: Still, the ice wall encapsulating the shield is very unique and interesting, and I wish you best of luck in developing it as things encased in ice can be a real pain to portray and especially to color. @_@

Lookin' good there, would love to see that with some nice color splashed on it. Though I do have to nitpick (I apologize, not intending to come off as rude or anything) Roegadyn are perhaps my favorite race so I have a particular fondness for them, as well as being picky about lore details. So just two things to mention. 1) Roegadyn have rounded ears, as seen below And 2) She's a hellsguard yes? Currently, all Hellsguard have a unique facial trait in that the underside of their noses is darkened, rather animalistic in nature. Of course, I'm just assuming this is indeed your Roeg character. And since we have yet to see the full extent of Female Roeg customization we cannot be certain whether these traits will remain true. Still, just things I thought I'd point out, for preparations sake if anything, so if these things remain true you may have to create character reasons as to why she has different traits than normal Roeg, or perhaps make changes to the character in general.

Great style you've got there, suppose my only complaint is that your design for Azeyma has a very oriental flair which is a bit odd as the Twelve are strictly unique to lands of Eorzea, having little influence or effect on the east asian themed lands of the Far East continents. (The only thing we know about the mythical far east is they go by an animal zodiac, though we don't know which animal correlates to Azeyma in the grand scheme of things.) Just my 2 gil. Some food for thought.

Previous issues aside, great work Mtoto. These are all coming out amazingly and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the final results. Quite a daunting undertaking and definitely an ambitious project!

I'll likely throw my hat in for the art side of things if needed.

I have tons of screenshots myself, though none of them are anything particularly exciting given my short stint in playing. Most are from beta events and the like. But still, I'll share a few humorous or interesting ones that I particularly like. Onion hats....Onion hats everywhere! It's a real shame ishgard was always off limits...

Agree with me now. After I had to waste time to provide abundant evidence. Whichever, I've gone a removed the offense from my signature, though my position still stands. I'm deeply bothered so many would condone such actions from artistic contributors to the community, and if it becomes a regular occurrence then my stay here will probably be very short.

Classless and childish? Like your opening statement right? Sure, I may have "picked a fight" as you put it. The thing is, I wasn't in the wrong. I was not wrong in bringing to light this wrong, and yet the majority of those involved saw fit to turn the situation on me, blinding themselves until overwhelming proof was provided. I'm not the bully here, if anything, the defense force are the bully's in this scenario. So yes, in a sense I am indeed a victim, a victim as a result of my own doing for daring to bring up a bit of wrong. Generally things that are "illegal" are often morally wrong, that's why they're illegal because a vast majority of people feel it isn't right. Who are you to decide what is morally wrong or not? I find it morally wrong, AND illegal, and so you're asking me to be open minded and accept that others might not be bothered by this, but then you or they won't be open minded to the fact that it's an issue that would also upset and bother other people.

Fair use applies to using a specific copyrighted object in another acceptable way. I.E. Using that exact copyrighted piece. This is a copy/imitation created from a copyrighted piece of artwork, meaning it isn't under fair use. Fair use would be like this very website, the background has artwork that is copyrighted used as the layout, that is fair use. He wasn't trying to trick people? Then why not credit the original artist? Because doing so would belittle his own work he was submitting to be praised by the people of this community. And sure, he does so now, after he's been exposed. And as to why you should care? Why not? Do you not care about other people breaking laws? I certainly don't want my own artwork to be stolen or plagiarized here, would you like your own writings and original work to be stolen too? My sig was a direct result of this community's attitude towards this situation. Which now upon further proof so many are quick to change their stance. I would hope in the future these people would not be so quick to denounce another forum poster who is trying to bring to light wrong-doing.

I'll add this is a very poor example to use to prove your point, as Disney owns both of those, they are within their rights to do exactly that. Is it lazy? certainly, but it's not plagiarism because they contractually own the rights to all that material.

It's so baffling how people cannot see the insult in this process of drawing. So let me put it in a way you all could hopefully easier understand. Say you wrote a story for your respective RP character, or hell, even a well thought out backstory which you meticulously typed and wrote. And then you come across someone who has copied what you wrote verbatim. The only differences are that they changed the names and that's it. How would that make you feel, hmm? And then you confront the person who stole your work and they simply say "It was just for my friends! So they could read it! I wasn't going to get it published or sell it!" And yet it still sits there, posted under someone else's name. That is exactly what this is. Just because it's not for profit doesn't make it any less wrong. Mtoto, you have talent, it's apparent. So stop doing this to yourself, you're a better artist than that man. You see a pose you like? Fine, use it, but add yourself to the picture. Make it truly yours, not by just changing a few small details here and there. Experiment and learn, then you'll get good enough you won't have to rely on references so much. One of my favorite artists is Yoji Shinkawa, I adore his art style, and yet, I experiment and I try to emulate his style sometimes. This doesn't mean I copy one of his characters or drawings. I look at his stuff and then try my hand at his style on my own piece. In the end, I've experimented, learned, and grown to be a better artist for it. All done without replicating a piece of his, but instead creating something of my own that emulates his artistic vision.
