RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Folken replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
The only possible problem that could lead to some server congestion that I'm foreseeing is how SE could handle their early start. MMO's that have had early/head starts have often only had a small selection of servers available for such things. This means the headstart servers get bombarded with everyone trying to get in, and then when the game launches a few days later, they open the other servers. This provides a problem in that the headstart servers have strong populations, and they're players who have progressed however far in those 3 days. Then these servers get slammed with more people, friends/guilds etc. that didn't have all members in the headstart. So, it could still potentially be a problem, but there's lots of variables. Ideally we would hope SE would have all these servers up from the headstart, and I'm sure they will. Still, it's a possibility they won't. -
RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)

I'm just stepping in to clarify this. Legacy characters, 1.0 or otherwise. Will be unable to transfer to non-legacy servers. Outside of that, I'm not really going to touch this topic as I will certainly come off as a jerk and that's not going to help. -
DAMN YOU RON! Takin' my sexy armorer spot T_T I'll snag miner I guess since it's all that's left? And I know how it is CJ, with all the miqo'te. When I was doin' lots of sketches for other characters, practically nothin' but miqo'te.

Thanks everyone. I had fun drawing these up, and I'm glad I was able to at least moderately accomplish the stylized brush look I was going for. And to answer this, I mostly use Photoshop CS4.

Look at that handsome devil... Huh...what? I'm sorry, I get lost in my eye.

You named the baby after me right Gerik? RIGHT?!?!

(Jumpin on the bandwagon. All this is totally OOC knowledge, as Ship would generally never tell this story in all it's truth. But this was a fun opportunity so I said why not.) Listen up, cause I ain't gonna say it twice. The name's Ship. And this is my story. This handsome cyclops is me. I was born on the 11th Sun of the 3rd Astral Moon...I think. I've forgotten the year. Oh, and I'm a lalafell, wanna fight about it!? I was born pretty far east from Eorzea to a pretty small family, although we were supposedly immigrants there anyways or something. Was just me, my Ma and my older brother. He helped take care of me a lot. Don't really remember anything about my father, guess he wasn't really around. Probably died or something. I practically idolized my brother. We were the best of buds and I suppose he was the kind of person I wanted to be. We played and trained and did everything together. But that's the thing about families, sometimes they don't always work out. And over time my brother started acting different towards me. Even now I'm not sure why, if it was jealousy or resentment, or maybe he just hated me from the beginning and just tried to hide it. Unfortunately things turned ugly. Friendship became rivalry, rivalry became pure hatred. In the end my brother had a deranged grudge against me from some unknown slight. It escalated pretty bad. Unfortunately it reached a point of no return. Plummeting over the edge of sanity he descended into madness. We fought, the worst it had ever been. And this time there was only going to be one person walking away from it. He made that clear. In the end I couldn't make him see me eye to eye. Well, that totally sucked, right? Right. After that I was kind of lost and felt guilty like it was somehow my fault. Which it probably was. I decided to leave, I couldn't stick around there anymore. I boarded a merchant boat heading for foreign shores, hoping to get as far away as I could. The boat traveled west, but after a few weeks journey we were attacked by pirates. Slavers and disgusting excuses for living beings, they killed or captured most of the pretty defenseless crew. I was surprised they didn't just feed me to the fish. Instead they took me in as some kind of twisted entertainment. Kicking me around, forcing me to work or partake in all kinds of dangerous situations for their amusement. I hated them, but at the same time I felt maybe it was justice for what I'd done. Punishment for trying to run away from it. I lost count of how long I was a prisoner. Years went by and I was transferred to a small hideout on an island cove where I was forced into even more physical labor. My hatred grew for them, and maybe that's why I never gave up, even though it would have been easy. It lasted for what seemed like eternity, and then I was loaded up on a ship again with other slaves, most likely heading to be sold or traded, or whatever. That's when I gained my freedom. A day after departing the slave ship found it's way into a terrible and sudden storm, the winds and waves wracked the ship, sinking it. I was free at last, only to be dragged to the depths. I thought I was a goner. But it seemed fate had it's fun torturing me. I suppose my terrible debt had been paid as I awoke some time later, having been rescued by a band of pirates. Or I thought them as much. I would later find out they weren't particularly pirates. Sailors that enjoyed everything the sea had to offer, though they mostly partook in trade. They took me in and gave me a home aboard their ship, the Hecatonchires. An odd name that I'd come to learn as they taught me their language. I was basically a husk when they found me, it had been so long since I'd said my own name that I'd pretty much forgotten it. As such, I took on a new name. They called me Shippuu, a mocking nickname as it was the first word I tried to speak of their language when they saved me. The word was ship, but I messed it up pretty bad. It stuck though, and a name's a name. I spent years with them, sailing to all kinds of places. They taught me the finer things in life and that the only person who's important is yourself. I went my separate ways from them after we made port in a place called Limsa Lominsa. The place had a certain charm to it, and I felt I had spent enough time at sea. There was a whole new land to explore, people to do, things to meet...err...well, close enough. (To Be Continued in Ship's Adventures in Eorzea Pt.1!)

Excellent. It's like I can fill up my blacklist before the game relaunches!

You may want to rethink your choice in avatar picture, considering what you've got now looks to be NDA breaking.

Nice, had the same idea I was gonna do with the parchment texture. Now if I can just stop being lazy and do mine...

-fist pump- Aww yeh. Any mood/expression is fine. Anything silly or grumpy would be fine. There's plenty of refs for him around.

*counts on fingers* I can't count that high. Did I make the cut?

I owe Eva a commission currently. But since I haven't been able to art too well it's severely prevented me from completing it. But hopefully that'll be changing soon. I've been itching to get back to ye olde drawin' board and have powered through my disadvantages for the time being. And as a result, a little something on the side for Eva for being so patient with me, and to let her know that I haven't forgotten, and that I will totally get that commission done. http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w464/TheShawnzy/eva_2-2_zps7f284b95.png[/img]

Shame on you Aysun. You missed a prime opportunity for a really clever edit of your degree. Like shopping in Dr. Love, and then linking to this

That needs a follow-up picture for sure.

Except these tribes aren't a hereditary monarchy like the examples you gave. Your European examples are horrible as all monarchies are not the same, and nowhere does it state that Nunh status is passed on naturally to the offspring (As it's highly unlikely, as once a nunh become too old he is then bested by a younger and stronger one, which could and is likely his own offspring. But it's not just automatically passed down. Edward VI got his title and position because his dad (Henry VII) got fat and died, thus his title passed to his heir, because he was part of a hereditary monarchy. Which the tribes of Miqo'te are NOT. Miqo'te tribes aren't even a monarchy by definition, they have a leader who is often NOT a nunh, who is most likely an elder such as in cases of tribal kinship. Additionally it's INCREDIBLY unlikely an 11 year old could best an adult who has probably defended his position from more capable attempts at his seat. And even if he was "lucky" enough to beat him, that luck would not extend to the numerous challenges he'd face mostly instantly. Not to mention the fact that at 11 it's likely he would not even be able to breed successfully at that age in the first place. Most males don't reach that stage till on average 13 years of age. So what kind of tribe would allow a BREEDING male to be in that important position that couldn't breed? The answer, they wouldn't. And then ON TOP of this, he was a runt too until he was 18? And so he's not a good warrior, he was small for 7 years after his rise to position. This group of Miqo'te must have been on a small island in the middle of nowhere and he was the only male that wasn't an old man or a bumbling child. Because any culturally tribal raised Miqo'te male would have challenged, and likely beaten such a nunh. So the problem lies in that because your character isn't "Some unstoppable warrior" that doesn't mean you haven't created a backstory that is completely unreasonable and unrealistic. And in fact, stating that he isn't a good warrior, makes his story EVEN HARDER TO BELIEVE. Which makes it all the more worse.

This I can get behind. Can handle a mouse alright for the time being. http://i1077.photobucket.com/albums/w464/TheShawnzy/mspaint_ship3_2_zpse1833bd0.png[/img]

Thank god for new hairstyles. I can only hope there'll be some good ones for lalafell. Been looking to change up my hairstyle.

Summoner is there, the entire front wheel is all Jobs. The scholar on the right is wearing, without a doubt, Scholar AF. It's almost identical to FFXI scholar AF in terms of certain features. And so far, classes (I.e. arcanist, maraduer, etc.) do not have a signature equipment like an AF set. Is it likely there just happens to be a set that looks like a scholar being added to the game? Sure, but that seems like a bad idea because adding Scholar as a job is a highly likely option, so you don't want a regular set to look too much like an AF set. Also, White Mages(Conjurers) and Black Mages(Thaumaturges) arguable use the same weapons as well, so the book argument is a bit moot as classes/jobs can use similar weapons but different versions of them. Scepter/Staff for Thm, and Wand/Cane for Cnj. They're the same thing, but made different within the game's mechanics etc. A book can be all kinds of things. A grimoire, a tome, a spellbook, album, atlas, lexicon, etc. etc. Plus, opening up a branching job system from existing classes could be a good way to squeeze more iconic FF jobs into the game. So it seems likely.

They didn't really do a good job of keeping the pictures hidden away there. And possible Scholar reveal -shrugs-
