1. I RP a pirate myself, and it's a lot more customizable than you think. Firstly, there are a few Pirate RPers here and there and Pirates exist in the lore of the game, so definitely, by all means feel free to Pirate it up! Secondly, any class you want fits just fine as long as it fits YOUR character that YOU want. I'm a Dark Knight myself, but me using a Greatsword is what fits with my character that I made. But if you're looking to start with something simple, any of the non-paladin tank jobs can be made Piratey. There's also Monk and Machinist, and technically reaper as well. But again, you can use anything. Be a Pirate White Mage if you like. Third, how lore-bending you want to be is up to you. But typically people prefer characters that can technically exist within their world. So I'd say if you want to be safe, just be a regular Pirate. You've got a ship, be it sea or air, and you sail around and plunder, pillage, treasure hunt, and drink. Yar har, a pirate's life for me! Though feel free to expand upon that if you'd like. Perhaps you have a curse upon yourself or your crew, or you've got a magical artifact or weapon. Such things exist in FFXIV so it doesn't break any lore. Just as long as you make your character realistically powerful and/or skilled, then you're fine. In other words, avoid becoming a Mary Sue. Do that and you'll be perfectly fine. My character is a Pirate that parades around as a normal, clumsy citizen on land, but at Sea he becomes what he really is: A dangerous and somewhat bloodthirsty villain. Having quirks and unique qualities like that can make your character stand out from other simple pirate types. Feel free to experiment! I've been RPing as a Pirate for a very long time, so if you have any other questions, feel free to throw them my way.
2. Name: Kagato Jurai Age: 28 Orientation: Straight Profession: Pirate Captain Important Details: Wanted in Gridania with a 10,000,000 gil bounty. Looking to connect with players who might be interested in a bit more Piracy in their lives! Whether you're looking to be a part of grand adventures, looking to cash in on the bounty, wanting to treasure hunt, or perhaps something more specific that requires the help of someone that's not so law-abiding, Captain Kagato Jurai of the Abyssal Pirates is here to look for connections meeting any and all of these. Long story short, I'm looking to RP in-game or via Discord for character building and forming relationships and bonds. The time I am online conflicts with my FC's current RP schedule, yet I am itching for RPing. Since my schedule is not changing anytime soon, I wanted to reach out here for anyone wanting to have the most adorable of rapscallions involved with any new or current RPs with individuals, groups, or entire Linkshells and FCs. I do have a card that offers more information on the character if interested: https://kagato.carrd.co/ Overall though, my character is meant to bring a certain level of light-heartedness to most scenes while still keeping the door open to serious moments and encounters as well as grand adventures. In other words, expect to smile, maybe even laugh, but also know that there is a Mr. Hyde to this Dr. Jekyll, and depending on how the scene goes, it could get a bit gruesome. All within character of course! Also willing to visit other servers within the Crystal Data center, so while my home server is Balmung, I can easily jump to any other server for RPing if necessary! While I'd be happy to list some RP Hooks, the truth is, I can RP in any scene and situation. Be it battle, social, travel, or stationary, this is a versatile Pirate. Feel free to ask questions or reach out to me in-game, on this forum, or even via Discord. I have that information in my card page that was posted earlier! Why yes, I do have my bed positioned so that I am sleeping on a huge mound of money! Should see the rest of the treasure-filled room!
3. I really appreciate the interest! I'll be on the lookout for you all, and please poke me if you ever see me as well!
4. Hello everyone! I'm currently looking to meet more of you on the Balmung server or even join some dedicated Linkshells for RP purposes. RPC Library - Kagato Jurai While I like to have most of Kagato's details come out mid-RP (I like a slow burn of information rather than just dumping a character's past on someone after a night of chatting), there's still a few things one should know about Kagato right off the bat. Firstly, he's a Pirate, but he's still a good person. He uses his position to live freely without being bound by anyone's laws other than his own. This, however, does cause him to get in trouble with certain people and places. Also, he's more like a Robin Hood figure, robbing from those who can afford it, or those who deserve it. Other than that, he's a treasure hunter or bounty hunter in order to make extra money. He's not a mercenary, though, unless someone really, REALLY wants his particular set of skills and the money is good. Secondly, despite being a Pirate and a Dark Knight, he's a bit of a derp and a goofball. His sense of direction isn't exactly the best, he's clumsy and trips on stairs, he runs directly into walls, and he loves a good pun or twelve. In short, Kagato can be a comedic character, but he's not a clown. He'll make you laugh, but he's not a walking joke. After all, under certain circumstances, his entire attitude can... change: But do not worry! You'll be fine! Probably. The kind of RP scenes or communities I enjoy being a part of are those that are very laid-back and willing to let the imagination stretch a bit for the sake of a good laugh or a good story. These are some things that Kagato would be great at for RP. Pirate RP - This is a given. Anything regarding Pirates and Piracy, Kagato can fit right on in. Being a Mentor - Kagato can be a mentor for someone looking to gain experience regarding: Piracy, Dark Knight, Physical Training and/or Martial Arts, Gunplay, Treasure Hunting, Cooking. Heroic RP - Kagato is more of a Chaotic Neutral, often even delving into Chaotic Good, but at the end of the day, if you need someone who can do the dirtier deeds for the sake of the overall good, Kagato is your guy. He's not a full good guy or hero, but he'll do what he feels is right. He'll just do it in the way he wants to do it. Dark RP - Got something a bit more dark in tone? As long as you're willing to forgive the occasional bad pun or clumsy action, Kagato can meld well with any darker themes. However, he is not a villain nor will he do any truly villainous acts unless there's a good reason for him to do so. He's no stranger to getting rather violent, though. Regarding Romance - Since this is a very real thing that can happen in RPs, I wanted to address it. I am fine with romance being a part of any RP. if anything I enjoy it as it brings even more character development into light. So if you wish to pursue this, go for it! It won't be something easy or overnight, however, but he does have great interest in ladies just as rough and tough as he is. Being around so many Roegadyn melded his tastes that way. I'm around normally in the late afternoons and evenings EST. Feel free to send a /tell or a message anytime if you'd like to RP with me or want me to be a part of something! I hope I didn't post too much and went overboard! D:
5. This seems like fun. It might be a good way to introduce myself to most of you.
6. Wow, the changes made to the game really are much better. I enjoyed the tutorial and added speeches at the beginning of the game as well as all the new UI and HUD customization. I also cant remember if it was always this way, but I like how there's a separate chat for battles and chatting on top of one another (though I may make the chat box similar to FFXI's in position and size). Already having a very pleasant experience.
7. That sounds like an excellent idea. Once I get my payment set up and make a new character on this server (Kagato Jurai) and get my bearings, I'll make contact.
8. Good grief has it been a long time. I remember when I first signed up to this message board and made my first posts. Hello and greetings. I am Kagato, the Final Boss. Though, in this game, you can call me Kagato Jurai, an aspiring Dark Knight despite the job not existing... yet. I originally quit the game due to too many restrictions on the gameplay and content, but with approximately a year and 1/2 of updates and content changes, I'm willing to make my return to the game and get really acquainted with the world again so that when Version 2 is released, I will already have a firm grasp on the gameplay and can appreciate all the new changes. (Plus, the potential $10 a month is too good a deal to pass up) --- Anyway, about who I am and what I wish to do while I'm here: For in-game, I am a pretty casual-to-moderate RPer. I can be in character and stay in character rather easily since I have been RPing on several different mediums for years. However, I am perfectly comfortable jumping back to OOC discussions and planning. I wasn't an RPer in FFXI, though I did try a RP linkshell in FFXI once, but it only lasted 2 weeks before disbanding, haha. I eventually want to run my own Linkshell with a Pirate theme in mind, base of operations being in Limsa of course. I just need crewmates. As for off game, I am a man in my 20's, still going to college for Game Art and Design. I'm a Let's Player on youtube, just about to jump into Tales of Graces f. Look up "KagatotheFinalBoss" if you're interested. I do mostly RPGs and Horror games, but I dabble into other titles as well as a UMvC3 show called "Courtroom Drama." Anyway, it's good to be back. I think this year-and-a-half wait was the best idea I could have done. Now I can join the game knowing that it's already a decent MMO now and it's only going to get better.
9. EXP has less importance in this game than Skill points. Sure, they may catch up to us in EXP, but those who start early will have: -More skills -More items and gear -Greater knowledge and skill in crafting -Easier way to travel by using the Teleport option after visiting many landmarks early on. -Overall, a far bigger boost in overall skill and development than those who start 8 days later.
10. I canceled my pre-order and sold all my games. All those texture-copying bastards can go to hell. I'll be fine with tetris. *realizes all tetris blocks are black and fill up the same lines when put together correctly* MY LIFE IS A SHAM!
11. You invite a friend over to your house for the afternoon. Describe what your friend would see upon entering your home. A: A world map and perhaps a globe as well. Navigating equipment strewn about a work desk. The basic necessities such as a bed, table, chairs, and fireplace. A lot of state-of-the-art cooking supplies for baking, grilling, boiling, broiling, frying, anything you can think of. The kitchen practically takes up half of the room. A bookshelf full of mystery novels, encyclopedias of the world, cookbooks, and magic spells. During the casual small-talk that ensues, your friend asks you if you have read any good books lately. How do you respond? A: Are you kidding? When I'm not trying to memorize recipes in a cookbook and reading informative entries on different parts of the world and it's wildlife, I'm reading mystery stories. I love a good who-done-it. Your friend eventually leaves, and you're still bored. Restless, you leave the house and set out for a walk. Describe the neighborhood you live in. A: The sound of waves splashing against the stone structures of the city as well as the calls of the seagulls overhead is the perfect evening ambiance... that is until I get closer to the very loud, but otherwise harmless pub full of adventurers and pirates just looking to have a great evening to end the day. Oh no! An orphan is in trouble! Down the street from where you stand, a small street urchin is being bullied by three larger youths. What do you do about it? A: I "accidentally" bump all three bullies into the water. "Oops! Sorry! I didn't see you there! Might want to get out quickly. I hear those waters have become a recent home for sharks. Oh a way to climb out? I think there's one a good 5 minute swim toward the docks. Don't cut yourselves! Sharks are attracted to blood! Hey kid, you hungry? Need a place to sleep? I've got room. You like Lobster? I'll make you a Lobster you'll never forget." Adventure time! The next day, still restless, you decide that what you need is a good change of pace. How do you pack for your four-day road trip to Ishgard? A: Simple camping supplies with all the necessary items to fish and hunt. I'll back light enough to travel, but I won't travel so light that I'm missing something to use for cooking and survival. And of course, that Orphan will be with me so he/she can bring whatever he/she likes. Along your journey, you spot some bandits waiting at a bridge across a wide but slow moving river up ahead of you. They haven't seen you yet. You need to cross the bridge to get to where you're going. How do you handle the situation? A: I continue across the bridge. Just because they look dangerous doesn't mean they are. I often feel sad when people stay away from me because they think I look scary. Either way, if they ARE bandits, they just better hope they have a spare set of clean undies. You have just arrived for the first time in a new big city. Where do you go first? A: The nearest inn. I can save sightseeing and fun until after I found myself some lodging. For being the 1,000th tourist to the city, you have been given a 6,000 gil voucher to spend as you like at the Ishgard Department Store (think FFXIV version of Macy's). What do you spend it on? A: New clothes for the orphan. Even if he/she ultimate;y doesn't want to stay with me, a new set of clothes would at least help him out. All of that shopping has made you deliriously hungry. What sort of food establishment do you seek out for lunch? A: HA! I'll make something that puts the restaurant to shame. Though, if it's just for the fun of eating out, somewhere that serves some great seafood or even something barbequed! Five months later and safely back at home, you realize the Winter Festival is approaching! What sort of present do you pick out for your mother (or nearest living relative, or closest friend)? A: Jewelry, of course. Something nice and shiny. If it's too much for my blood, I don't have to give a material item. Perhaps something as simple as a great memory to remember forever will suffice. If it's a pretty young lady, I'll do both.
12. logankagato I have skype on just about all the time since it's the main chat program of choice for my Brawl people. We even do podcasts and I plan to use it for online Dungeons and Dragons as well as my favorite, Mutants and Masterminds (D&D, but with superheroes and easier to keep track of). Of course, I'm always up for killing time talking about nothing
13. I voted for Lindblum, if only for the fact it's the server I picked for Open Beta and also because I enjoyed that town in FFIX. As much as I love VI, Figaro wasn't as interesting a town.
