  1. Really not all that much difference here. The tattoo is getting a minor make-over (with IC reasons): 1.0 Eva: 2.0 Eva Perhaps if more long hairstyles are added something might change a little bit more, but she's content to stay mostly the same.
  2. I don't want to speak to other peoples' characters, but Eva probably gets lumped into that. Most notably, she is extremely busty, and goes to lengths to try and conceal this - moreso when in any sort of mission or combat setting. She does not view it as the asset that most women might. She doesn't have the degree of combat experience most others do, and she suffers a sort of OCD and is super-aware of her appearance and how she presents herself - and there are a number of in-character reasons for this (which I wouldn't mind talking about but starts to veer away from the point). This tends to fade to the background when there is duty, and when things happen that leave her on the battlefield for awhile. One might say the barbie doll has been dragged through the mud a lot. And while she may take a lot of time cleaning herself and restoring her image, only to get muddy or bloody again at the next. This happened a lot within the more militaristic/mercenary type groups she belonged to. She's also a nurse, and not exactly the "hellllloooo nurse" trope (although that's been joked about at times) - but there's been RP or references made to incidents where she's held a man's entrails in her hands while a surgeon tried to work on him. And other gritty stuff like that. Dirt, blood, grime, mud, soot, sweat... happens. To RP like you've stepped off the battlefield untouched by any of this is a little unrealistic to me, and I agree with everything you're saying about keeping it real.
  3. S-E stated that everything that happened in 1.0 was supposed to take place in the year 1572. And everything in ARR should be regarded as being in 1577. There was a thread about this posted some time ago (or a couple even), and a lot of RPers who have been RPing for two years leading up to Dalamud kind of felt this was hogwash... Eva has 'celebrated' (a term I use loosely since I don't think there was ever much celebration either time) her nameday twice (on the 20th moon of the 1st astral sun, or January 20th in RL terms). She was age 30 when we started playing, and age 32 at the time of impact. She's going to be confused about how old she is once she realizes what year it is cuz - time skipper and all. But my opinion is that there's been years worth of experiences and interactions, and it makes sense to me that the character would age accordingly, even in spite of the lore. So that's kind of what I've been going with. I know others feel similarly, and others may also feel different. Tis just my own opinion.
  4. Whoa, that looks really great so far Kaoru!! Can't wait to see it all finished!
  5. Hey it's a Manari! She looks great!!
  6. If you are still doing these portraits for practice and wouldn't mind, we'd love to see another sketch portrait of Eva. I would kind of like to see her with a surprised or astonished look on her face. But there are so many other people on this list whose pictures I would love to see more, so if you do, please feel free to keep me at the bottom. And if not that's okay too. I know you've already drawn Eva once and we still love it!
  7. EDIT: I don't know what I'm talking about and got this event confused with the other event for some reason. I'm running on 3 hours of sleep and more caffeine than is probably healthy so just ignore me for now.
  8. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. Non-canon generally refers to an RP event that takes place in a bubble outside the scope of the game's normal natural timeline. This is to say that the events that happen here will not carry consequences that get carried into future RP events/interactions. It's a good way to practice, and it allows people who may not be back from the rift or have no plausible reason to be there to still participate. The drawback to this is that any meaningful exchanges that you may want to regard in the future would never have technically happened, but there are workarounds to this sort of thing as well so long as the parties involved are in agreement. Everything is very subjective. A specific example using this particular event might be if it was being held in Ul'dah and was non-canon, CharacterX could attend, even though in the game's story CharacterX took a bullet from Garlean gunfire and was bedridden in Gridania. It's kind of a way of breaking the chains that cause and effect sometimes bind us with. There are pros and cons, like most things. I hope this explanation helps and does not serve to confuse you further. :dazed:
  9. I spoke a bit about this a bit last night. I don't suffer that alt-itis. I've only ever really played one major character in a RP setting with a number of fallback NPC's, but those usually seldom see much face time. That's just how I am. And when I'm on the other NPC's, I find myself grumbling, "This is time I could be spending developing Eva." That said I don't begrudge anyone who does have alt-itis. There are a lot of different character types and channeling energy into more than one character may help some prevent a single character from becoming too Mary Sue (I actually do this myself only with separate writing - like if I get ideas for things I think might work for Eva, they get funnelled into another character for some creative writing or a short story instead, just because sometimes I have to get that out of my system and it doesn't make sense for Eva to be something that's kind of against her character, even though the concept/idea are fascinating and worth exploring). What I guess would concern me a little bit would be if my character had grown close to another character, and that character was one among many alts. The limited face time could be somewhat off-putting depending on the nature of the relationship. But I tend to think of it this way. After you factor in time for work, sleep, RL stuffs, your play time is going to be somewhat limited. Further dividing this between multiple characters, in my opinion means there's less opportunity for adding more depth to each of those characters. That's not to say it can't be done well, but I think the more alts that see less play time there are, the less overall depth those characters are given. I will go on to say that I also have a tough time tracking who said what to whom and which of my characters was involved at a certain thing, sometimes. I have to keep notes. Juggling two characters I might be okay, but any more than three or four and I'd probably just have a perpetual headache. :dazed: That's my 2 gil.
  10. Not all characters are literate. And there's nothing to say that a journal couldn't also be just a collection of sketches, for those more artistically inclined. I think Gerik and Selene have done something like this (though I think both are also able to write so it's not necessarily done to replace literacy). To address the question of what sort of reasons one could have for starting a journal in-character, there could be many! Perhaps some event took place in his or her recent past that was significant enough that it evoked a need to chronicle it and the feelings and thoughts formed as a result of that. Perhaps the character was just bored and didn't have anything else to do. Perhaps it started as a shopping list and they got creative. Think of reasons why you might start keeping a journal. Maybe someone in-character suggested it would be a good idea to get your thoughts down in writing. I've seen a lot of journals where the first entry was, "I hate writing journals but XYZ said they thought it would help with ," and that's as great a way to start one as any! But I'll reiterate that the experience itself I think is one of the most rewarding aspects of RP for me. And I know a handful of folks have surprised me with compliments about it and such. I tend to assume that nobody ever reads it because I don't write it with any sort of audience in mind. So that always baffled me a little, but I'm glad that others are able to derive enjoyment from the process as well, and not just me.
  11. I don't know about a "theme song" exactly, but this song, to me, kind of exemplifies what Eva is - the tone of the song and such - it's hard to explain: Tarja Turunen - Damned and Divine ipxKz5GBNoM And this one is just kind of really appropriate from a storyline standpoint, for so... many... reasons! The lyrics and such... Missy Higgins - The Sound of White oiovv_srwos
  12. I've always been drawn to the more elvish races. I don't really have any concrete explanation as to why. I've always liked the lithe and elegant too - long legs and such. The elezen exhibit this nicely. And I liked what little history we were given about Duskwight culture. I wanted to make a character that had roots in that culture but who had also been separated from it enough that stereotypes might still be made, but that she would kind of work to defy that sort of expectation. There are few things, to me, more classy than a well-dressed elezen of either gender/clan. I know everyone's preferences are different, but that's my answer~
  13. Heya Aehtel! I'm not sure how I missed this post this morning, but I just wanted to say it's been a lot of fun the past couple of days with the non-canon RP and just talking and stuff and I'm really glad you're enjoying the community. Can't wait until all the characters can meet up in game!!
  14. You get a sense for what's common by talking to NPC's. "Thal's Balls" is exclaimed a lot, and everything is "shite". That said most of the LS's I've belonged to have not had any qualms about cursing in-character - dropping F-bombs and such. It's a mature world we're living in, after all, and this game is full of euphamisms and all sorts of crazy talk. EDIT: Rhio beat me to it.
  15. We'll be there in some fashion, though probably not as Eva, since timewarp things are a big ol' ball of confuzzling right now...
  16. I'm afraid there's not a whole lot of information about the lifespans of any of the races. We know that lalafell have longer lifespans. And I keep hearing that elezen live longer than hyur but I'm not sure I've seen that in-game anywhere officially or posted by a dev. If no one has already done so, it might be a good idea to pose the question on the Official Lore forum that S-E has. I know they sometimes address player questions about the lore like this. And I know this one has been asked quite a bit lately.
  17. What is meant by 'dark?' Like a villainous group with a moral compass that points directly south? Or a grittier style? I think Yssen was working on something that sounded somewhat sinister so you may want to reach out to him for more info. Misericorde might also be of interest to you, if you want to reach out to Isaac. I actually spoke with him at length yesterday and his I also think that Misericorde might be something you might be interested in as well, though I don't think they are regarded as being "evil-aligned" by any means.
  18. Voted no for the same reason all the others voted no, plus while it may be good for socializing, I feel it detracts from RP, which is sort of the reason we're all here. Also I'm a visual sort of person and text works just fine for me. Voice chat is a headache of which I want no part.
  19. Regarding #7 in particular, I think an in-game day passes in approximately one real life hour (it isn't exact, and this is intended to be a mechanic to allow for a greater variety of day options, moon phases, etc.) For whatever it may be worth, most of the RPers I've interacted with tend to ignore the in-game day/night cycle in favor of a chosen time zone. While there may be some inconsistency with this from LS to LS (which can usually easily be overlooked during cross-LS activities or otherwise something may be agreed upon in advance), it is usually much simpler to regard the passage of time this way because it simply makes more sense. If an Eorzean minute passes in about 2-3 seconds, and you're adhering to that exactly, speaking in terms like that where "I'll meet you in two bells' (hours) time," sort of gets muddled. I would infer that to mean that the rendezvous would be in two RL hours' time. Others might do the math and figure that to be in 4 or 5 minutes RL time (or whatever it works out to be). I'm not saying it's wrong to use that (because I know there are often die-hards who will adhere strictly to that sort of thing). If it works and both parties are consistent and understand what is meant, that's awesome. But for my own opinion, I'm just thinking that a RP picnic that may go on for 3 hours of real time, and the sun will rise and set three times during that span, and three days will pass. So it makes more sense for me to kind of disregard that passage of time, and perhaps instead may regard it as starting in the afternoon and ending at sundown maybe. There's been other threads that have discussed this as well, and the topic of weather effects can also be applied, since they can change just as quickly. For something like a picnic, if it's clear when you start, and after 15 minutes it rains, some RPers might indicate OOCly that the rain should just be disregarded since people are out there on the premise of sunny skies and such. I think the bottom line is that as long as everyone is on the same page, or at least understands where other RPers might be on different pages and is able to at least communicate those differences or understand or come to some sort of an agreement, than everything should be fine no matter what. I didn't really intend to go on such a tangent, but it was an excellent question and brought up a lot of good points.
  20. Eva's Chocobo is named Shuttle. It's definitely a weaver thing, plus I've always loved the double entendre~
  21. That should have made you feel a lot better. That's wonderful! Truly!!
  22. : "And my... needle!" No joke, this is right in line with things that Crystalline will be aspiring towards in ARR as a charity organization and I'm very excited at the prospect to help out with something like this. Assuming she is back from that time-rifty thing in-character by then, she will be there and wanting to help.
  23. Awww... I thought he got along well enough with Eva (duskwight) at the aftermath of the Full Cold Moon event last year. Though I suppose crisis thrusts people together sometimes where they might not ordinarily. That was fun RP though!
  24. Confirming that this works in beta (at least in phase 3) and registers for quests and such where emoting at a particular NPC is needed to progress with the quest.
