  1. May have seen some/all of these before, but they're classics, and still make me laugh every time! Crab Battle: - Oliolioliooooo... The End of the World: - Fire ze missilez!! Powerthirst: - Kick her in the face with your energy legs!! Powerthirst II: - Preposterone!! 'Take On Me' Literal: - Pipe Wrench Fight! I'm sure I could dig up more. Major props to JJ for finding most of these way back in the day.

    Sigs and Stuff

Been looking for inspiration to update my Dynamis siggy (which is a few months old and still doesn't reflect relic completion) and Keir totally provided it. This is, of course, similar to a couple of his, but I wanted my character behind the rain for it. It's actually spurned a few other ideas for future siggies as well. Keir, I hope you don't mind that I borrowed the technique from yours. If you do I will take this down and make some alterations. I'd been struggling with what I was going to do next for some time.

Love the rain effect on the NIN ones! Looks good with the red, too. Excellent work!

    Sigs and Stuff

Had some artistic flash tonight after a long bout of 'artist's block' and finally got around to making Deufraubiont's sig: Made a couple more for use with this character in specific. Not enough FF14 info yet so just drawing a base idea of what she'll look like using the FF11 template. I figure the sunrise is rather symbolic and makes for a good 'first siggy' for this character.
  5. I'm envious of the ability of some to be able to put pen or pencil (or crayon, marker, w/e) to paper and make wonderous images appear. I've never possessed that talent, but I've gained some skill with Photoshop over the past several years and have made use of the model viewers and various other tools to create siggies, wallpaper, and avatars. I'm attaching several that I've made over the years, attempting to keep them somewhat chronological: Forum Avatars: Siggies made for others: Dynamis Forum Avatars from when I was Upgrading: This is my Dynamis Siggy from when I was Upgrading: This was just done out of silliness one night: My First Animated Sig (and the earliest one I could find on short notice) The next several kind of tell a story as they go... One of the quotes was from 'V for Vendetta', and another was out of a Robert Jordan book, and another was a loose translation of something someone in FF9 had said, and I think another was from a Spiderman movie. I think my favorite was the 2nd to last, but the final one (which uses the same graphic from the dynamis counter one) is the most recent. I love doing these, and can't wait for some more FFXIV graphics to become available (and maybe even a new model viewer /crossFingers). I'm presently working on one for Deufraubiont and will post it when it is done as well. Peace, Kes/(Dyterium)
  6. I figure it's fair to assume that most of us have some background with FF11 and possibly some screenshots to boot. Post one. It could be funny. It could be a great accomplishment. It could be a memorable moment. Anything. But only post one. Feel free to create witty captions for them as well, or whatever. Just trying to pass the time until open beta. To get it started... This one was taken on 11/18/05: Choo choo!
  7. Yeah, that was definitely the part of the vid that had me rolling. Also when he orders everyone without a relic, mythic, or maat's cap out of the room. I lol'd.
  8. Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the funny youtube vids area, but it seems more relevent here. Enjoy!
  9. If you're looking for a new, if temporary, home for Zarik, you can join a few of us on Sylph in Oracles. Deufraubiont and a few others are there with me and there's some good non-RP folk too.
  10. This makes me a little nervous. New breath attack I like. I figure if they're going to make PUP attack stronger, it would be nice to see them do something to amp up the wyverns a bit. My favorite aspect of this update is that up to now I have been trapped into going BLM to various events for endgame stuff since I leveled it to be helpful. Now I have the opportunity to NOT level black mage any further and reassert myself as the job I enjoy the most - dragoon of course.
  11. Cautious optimism. I think the double-whammy of doubling the server populations along with implementing a system where the already-topheavy populis is going to be supersaturating xp camps is going to result in a good deal of frustration. I also want to know if they're going to change/fix the relic/mythic weapons so that they remain top notch. I know they'd talked about adding augments to them, but I guess I want more details. The job-specific emotes sound great though!! It's kind of a bummer that RP on Sylph fizzled out. I'm hoping for some kind of an emote where the dragoon can roughhouse with his wyvern. Wishful thinking I'm sure, though. I'm also curious if all of the endgame stuff that's been set up to date is going to be relatively moot? Who wants level 75 Homam/Nashira when you'll be able to get some uberleet lv.99 gear instead? Are they planning to keep Dynamis/Limbus/etc. level-capped at 75, thus maintaining a need for such gear? I'm hopeful. But skeptical at the same time.
  12. I. Basic Info Characters: Eva Ianeira Primary character: Eva Ianeira Linkshells: Crystalline, Everwatch, Backstage Primary RP linkshell: Crystalline II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy (IC as often as possible) Views on RP combat and injuries: I feel communication in /tell between both parties is important to help facilitate combat. While I'm all for standard combat scenarios being conducted naturally with a back-and-forth method of emotes, I'm also not opposed to utilizing /random occasionally so long as it's realistic and doesn't hinder the RP itself too much. When it becomes a burden and RP crawls to a snail's pace, I find the experience to be unnecessarily cumbersome - RPing out events which should happen in seconds, often over the course of several minutes. If /random is to be used, I rather it be as a guideline than a hard-and-fast rule. For injuries I am willing to sustain injuries on a realistic level, but anything major (such as loss of a limb, blindness, etc.) would need to be discussed with us OOCly first. size=large]Views on IC romance:[/size] I’m okay with romance to an extent. I’m not a big fan of the couples that tend to RP exclusively together and ignore the rest of the community. Thus if I am involved in any romantic RP, don’t expect to see me spending all in game time with the romantic partner (though I'll certainly spend a decent chunk of time with him/her). Also keep in mind that any romantic relationship I'm involved in is strictly IC and in no way reflects my OOC feelings toward said individual. As to how far I’m willing to go: I have never and possibly never will be involved in any overly erotic RP (and if so, it will be 100% private). While I don’t mind my characters having sexual relationships, I prefer the fade to black concept when it goes that far. The furthest I would go would be kissing, some groping, and undressing (none of this in any public chat of course). After that, it should go to fade to black. (copied and pasted most of Kylin's for this since I'm of the same mindset) Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Most of Eva's family is deceased. She may or may not have half-siblings somewhere. If your character is an elezen and this is something you would want to consider, than please feel free to contact me to discuss it in more detail. I'm not yet sure how I would feel about such a relationship for a multitude of reasons. All other friendship/business type relationships I would expect to evolve naturally throughout the course of RP. Views on lore: I tend not to stray too far from established lore. I’m mostly a by the book type of role-player. While I don’t mind deviating a bit here and there, it has to be at least believable for the setting it takes place in. Royal heirs, aliens, and extreme things like that are a definite no-no in my book. Creating a fictitious building in a city, an organization, or even small societies are perfectly fine with me though so long as it doesn't go against the lore. That said, I'm not opposed to the supernatural (spirits, demons, etc) so long as it's done tastefully. I strongly believe in creative freedom in the world provided to us. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I prefer it when linkshell chat is strictly reserved for IC (in RP shells). Casual OOC chat over the linkshell channel of a RP specific group has always annoyed me to no end since I am a very heavy RPer. I also prefer to remain IC as much as possible at events with other Rpers, though I’m significantly more open to OOC commentary during such events as long as it doesn’t keep interrupting an important scene. Party chat is /usually/ OOC unless there's a private scene going on. Tells will work for me as either OOC or IC depending on context. A number of acquaintances have "private pearls" and utilize the /tell channel as such in an in-character fashion. This may also be used IC if a character is in close proximity and whispering. Generally speaking, regardless of the channel, I will put parentheses around it if it's OOC - unless it's very clearly some sort of OOC/endgame type event. III. 13. Congrats!! This would also mark the anniversary of a cross-linkshell RP (specifically the exchange with Zarik) that renewed my faith in cross-linkshell roleplay. This was a very memorable evening for me. Here's to some memories, eh Castiel? Blocked out irrelevent /p OOC silliness (except Ruro's remark at the end which was too good to block out). I have the entire chatlog including all the craziness going on in /p OOCly during the ceremony. Digital packrat ftw!!
  14. I kind of agree with Mythis. I think scripted storyline may be considered more of an artform, but I tend to look at actual interactive RP as something a bit different. To draw a comparison, I may go out on Friday night, shoot some pool with friends and have a few beers, cut loose, relax, etc. It's fun, yes. But is it really an art form? I don't really perceive it that way (although some of those difficult pool shots may seem like it!!) I tend to think of RP along the same vein. It's fun and relaxing, and while it may be an expression of my own personality, I don't really feel it's 'art', at least not in my opinion. This is all very subjective though. If you don't mind my asking, what makes you ask this question?
  15. So I noticed the forums have dulled down a bit, and instead of posting a few random chitchat threads which was my first inclination, I just figured I would just point out that VanaFest is this weekend, and I expect we will hear a lot of exciting news over the next few days and I'm guessing the forums will terminate 'trickle-mode' and kick off 'deluge-mode' again. Suffice it to say I'm bored at work today and apprehensive about what we're going to hear this weekend! :bounce:
  16. Rosters typically change a lot more frequently than rules and are difficult to keep updated - we sort of stopped bothering in Crystalline and went loosely by the forum's "Memberlist" which was still somewhat inaccurate for a number of reasons, one of them being that inactive members were often left on for a very long time. Perhaps if each guild chooses to keep a list of its members on a publicly viewable webpage or forum post... a link can be provided to the RPC. That way it need only be edited at one location. This may or may not be a good idea for the rules information as well (pro: latest version of rules is there, no discrepency between guild rule list and guild rule list posted on rpc forum. con: have to click away from rpc forum to get more information, possible navigation issues). If this were going to be done, and I'm still not entirely certain what purpose it would serve, it would be important that they be kept up to date and publicly accessible though. That's all.
  17. Aside from an overall roster (I figure the people who are confirmed RPers on the server), I see no reason to break it down by guild or such. I would assume that once someone's been acknowledged as an RPer they would be given rights to post. Or are we going to either assume that no one will come along, register an account, and spam the forums (either ads or griefers)?
  18. This is a good idea. Both the sticky about meta-gaming and the notation in the story post itself. It is likely that I will often use this.
  19. I think I was in a nostalgic mode and remembering all of the nonsense we had to deal with over the years when I wrote that post two weeks ago. Regarding the discussion of storyline content, I agree that it's probably going to happen no matter what, and forum etiquette or even a set of rules or policies in place to keep them from getting too heated would probably be a very logical idea that could save a lot of grief in the long run. Also Mason makes a really good point in that people who want feedback can post as such. Would that make it inappropriate to discuss someone else's RP? Something to think about. I know I've offended someone in the past for writing a post which had spurned a discussion about a story post someone had made. Or do you put yourself on the chopping block the moment you post a story thread? Again speaking only to what I know, in Crystalline we adopted a policy where the author of such a post could opt to create such a feedback thread. Most of the time they would just get some typographical/grammatical suggestions or an 'attaboy' but once in awhile it would spurn some interesting conversations about character behavior and such. While a lot of people were open to criticism and expressed as such, people either found nothing to criticize or were hesitant to do so. I suspect that in a larger group such as the RPC with a more diverse crowd, and much more differing opinions, the reservations for criticism will be more diminished. I'm more concerned about the "loose reins RPers" with the blue skin and the ability to fly. Criticism of such things may not be perceived so much as insulting to the individual author so much as to the community which supports those rules. I can foresee groups of people getting upset that someone from a more rigid group is insulting their ways. The 'RP Critic', while not a character type, has definitely become a cliche personality type I've run across on a number of occasions. These instigators actually RP very little (possibly out of fear of being criticized by others) and spend most of their time looking down on others' actions and words and casting insults around. On a completely different vein, will there be any rules in place about the content? While some LS's may not support graphical scenes depicting a violent rape, for example - others might. On some boards this might be okay, but some people may have a problem with this sort of content being copied over to the RPC forums. While I don't like censorship, perhaps some sort of warning on both the subject line (i.e. - [EXPLICIT]) and in red text at the top of the post itself may be warranted in such instances, unless the RPC plans on taking specific measures to limit such content. While some RPers might be put off by these limitations, their other forums would likely allow it, and such posts might not reflect well on the RPC for new and prospective members coming to visit and experience what we're about. Just something else to think about. Finally in regards to meta-gaming, it's not so much that I'm afraid about it - and I apologize if fear was the emotion I conveyed. I think concern was what I was aiming for. Most RPers have the iota of common sense to avoid acting in such a way. I just didn't think such a policy should be 'inferred', and something should be written up in forum guidelines. There are likely to be novice RPers who do not know about meta-gaming and this would be to their benefit, as well as anyone that they RP with. That is all.
  20. I can help out as needed as well with regards to the technical aspects of forums. I have a pretty extensive background with HTML, JavaScript, graphic design, and in particular PHP. I know Crystalline's forums were always pretty much boilerplate due to busy schedule and wanting to spend what free time I did have playing the game, but I'm finding I have a lot more free time these days, and time available while I'm at work between incidents for such endeavors (admittedly a large part of funding the relic was done from crafting/farming between incidents at work ) Technical expertise aside, I'll make a donation for the removal of the ads and domain and such when my check is deposited next Friday. I like player journals, but 99.9% of these are going to be a character's own private thoughts. As above, if rules are in place about metagaming than I'm okay with this. I will use an example for this one. I would be upset if I had Kes write a journal entry describing, say, an argument she'd had with her father, and then the following day someone approached her and asked if everything had been smoothed over from the fight yesterday. I would however be okay with this if I had actually RPed a reaction over the pearl, or even if I had described in the journal entry very specifically how she'd stormed out of her father's house cursing a storm. "I happened to be in TownX yesterday and saw you storming through the streets muttering to yourself. Is everything ok?" But only if somewhere in the journal she had indicated that she was seething as she walked back home. Sorry for the longwindedness of this one. I'm sure most people know about metagaming, but just wanted to be absolutely clear. Also keeping everyone's private journals in one room seems a little odd, so you might want to forego the naming method on this and just leave it at 'Character Journals'. These are just my thoughts. Please take them for what they're worth or expand upon them as you will.
  21. I agree with Solana. Things will happen in their own time, and beyond opening some form of initial contact, there is really nothing more that can be done. It is possible that for every two or three people who registered on this forum as soon as they received word of it, another has made note of it and bookmarked it to be revisited upon the game's official release. While I think goal-setting is a good thing, perhaps these quotas we are trying to meet may be a bit over the top. From the look of things we have a pretty enormous snowball here already, and we've not even yet begun rolling it downhill. I think it's safe to anticipate that this endeavor will be a successful one. Also, to echo a sentiment about us Sylphites:

They had the capacity to link up their Walahran religion pretty well with other aspects of the game, but fell short. I had actually given thought to having my character adopt this form of religion when I first understood what it was, but decided against it for various reasons (among them a strong distrust of the Near Eastern culture in general). I believe their main philosophy deals with "the void" and I recall some quotes from cutscenes akin to, "From the void all things are born and to the void all things must return," or something to that effect. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to link the religion of the Near Eastern lands to the great void we experienced at the onset of CoP - and the emptiness which is spoken of by Tenzen in the Far East - Promyvion. If one of the deities in FFXIV is something similar to this, I may consider changing my plans and having Kes take up that following. I suppose we shall see. I want to know more about the other 10 deities before I make any final decisions, but I'm still leaning towards my more abstract views, and she will probably not be a very religious character (spiritual though, maybe).

Not only that, there's no saying what sort of lore will be released down the line in patches or expansions, or may yet be seen in current game content that has not yet been thoroughly explored. I cite the relationship between Altana and Promathia as precedent. Prior to CoP this was vastly unknown and could defy the claims some RP religious doctrine could have put into place beforehand. Of course the counterargument might be that "the cathedral was wrong" but that's another slippery slope, since it casts a certain light on a particular group based on the inaccuracy of some RP elements that were created specifically for that group by RPers. Just sayin'...

I'm not so sure about creating doctrine which may [now or later] go against FFXIV lore. It seems like it could be a lot of fun, but I could also see it being a double-edged sword that could hurt other peoples' storylines if mishandled. Just my own opinion though - take it for what it's worth (approxiamtely 2 gil). I kind of like the concept of having 12 gods. I imagine we'll find people selecting one to align themselves with more often than not, or perhaps offering prayer to Llymlaen when preparing to undertake a lengthy voyage by sea, for example. I wonder how these deities will regard one another. Will they be on even ground and set apart from one another, or will there exist some sort of a hierarchy as with the gods of Greek/Roman/Norse mythology? It will be interesting to see how they implement a polytheistic religion (or perhaps religions).
