  1. I mean custom emotes. So basically anything you type that isn't speech really.. it's what your character is doing. Instead of just sitting down with the in game emote you can type that they do it at the same time. For example... You wouldn't just walk up to someone saying you'll help them up and then they'd just get up without any responses. You need to make an emote describing what they are doing like: - Bob extends his arm out towards the fish before snatching it out of the water - Is much more entertaining than just walking up to water and being all "I caught one!" As for pregnancy you'd incorporate that into it. So as you'd include something about how Bob can't actually reach the fish because his baby lump is too huge. It's basically just letting people know what your character is doing at any time. Think of it as if you're reading a book. It's not all just a list of speeches, you want to know what the characters are doing as well. Your best bet is to watch other RP's and learn from them.
  2. Expanding on what Elyscia said about being vague with the character at first. I think it's much easier (and better) to think less about the characters themselves in terms of personality. For example, you work out a simple backstory and then just roll with what you find fun, that way the character's future responses will come naturally to you, and you can then expand on their personality. Like with my current character, I didn't really have much of an idea of what she'd be like, and she ended up being a sassy bitch. Which was totally out of my idea zone. But now I've gotten so used to it that I don't even need to think about how to respond to most things despite not being sassy at all in real life. I find that if you plan too much beforehand, depending on experience and such you end up forcing yourself to sit there and think 'How would my character respond to that' And that's not exactly a problem, but you want it to flow naturally. This isn't to say you should just start RP'ing with nothing planned. You can have some ideas, and should do. But for me It's always easier to plan less and jump into it and see what happens. You might plan to play a horrible person, but then the first person you meet could be dying and for whatever reasons you decide to be a nice person and suddenly you're disliking your initial ideas. Also yes, pirate talk always helps. I just saw your next post, so I'll edit in a response! Families work just like any other character relations really, except obviously you have similar back stories usually. RP is for the most part real time (Although you could RP as like... this is the conversation they had last night if that person couldn't log in that day or something like that). So if say you got pregnant, you would emote around that for the full length of the pregnancy in real life time, and eventually turn up one day holding a baby. That isn't always the case though. If you're just RP'ing with the same few people every day in a closed off private kind, then doing timeskips, or something like that is quite common. It's just when you RP with lots of random players and suddenly you're holding a baby it just seems out of place since everyone else has only seen that as a few days.
  3. Thanks for ruining Sarah's fantasies about ending her highschool life with the perfect ball, Spoony!!!!! >_< Just kidding, who wants to go the ball with a spoon anyway.
  4. This friend Sarah seems like a much more enjoyable experience than getting tortured. Pyralis made the wrong choice, clearly.
  5. Sure, but a lot of people need to get up on a Thursday morning, and even getting to start at 1am and leaving at 3am is a better option for them. Or just moving the event to be on the weekend would work as well.
  6. I am from Elyscia's army. Starting earlier would be much better, as well as for the turnout. Even if a bunch of Europeans only pop in for an hour or two (because it's that much earlier) Then well that's more people so it's great. The way it is now most people just wouldn't want to -start- at 3am (and later for most of Europe) But starting at midnight/1am most people will roll with it until 6am for sure.
  7. That would have been way too early for me then. I started sometime around WotLK and quit a bit before Pandas, but was playing on and off around that time.
  8. Wow, didn't expect so many responses. I don't recognize anyone though. It's been a few years since I was on there as well, but I was Alliance side. I used to RP as "Lauf" at the Cathedral.
  9. I don't expect many responses, if any. But it would be a nice small world if someone here used to RP back on Earthen Ring, on WoW.
  10. I couldn't even see the green hair when you linked me the pictures earlier I would have totally told you to put that one up
  11. Hehe, I am currently at work and offline which may be the reason why. But not to worry: I'm home for midnight so an hour or so left and I look forward to accept your friend request! (SQUENIX. Y NO OFFLINE FRIEND REQUEST OPTION? ) What class are you playing? It affects your starting area and there are three main cities: Gridania - Conjurer, Archer, Lancer. Ul'dah - Thaumaturge(sp??) Pugilist.. something. Limsa - Arcanist, Marauder... something. My memory is bad, OK. I don't remember the last classes. I'm a night owl throughout the entire week and gotten into the bad habit of ssleeping at 6am and waking up at 11th but there's so much stuff to do that sleeping gets in the way of! See you tonight, lovely. Ah, didn't realize offline friend invites weren't a... thing. I usually wake up at 11am even on the days I don't have to be out by 9 so I can't really manage the 6am sleeps like I used to back in college. (Because 3 hours was more than enough for college of course. ) And I'm an Arcanist! About level 9 at the moment.
  12. Not really familiar with any of the areas or hotspots yet. It's a bit too soon to learn any as I don't know the names of any places yet. But it would be great to have someone to group with at times. I've never really been much of a PVE'r so it's always helpful c: And I try to be a night owl as much as I can, but recently having to get up at 9am each morning has hindered that a bit. I can't seem to find your character name in game
  13. Thanks for the welcomes and the help everyone  I've joined the Europa group and learning everything I need to know there!
  14. I decided to just roll with Balmung since that seemed to be the most popular from what I could see. Just trying to learn how to play more than anything at the moment :moogle: How do I go about joining chat channels and such?
  15. Firstly, hello! I literally just installed the game and I'm mostly interested in RP'ing and have no idea what server to go for. I like in the UK/European time zones. But from the look of random threads I've found across the interenet, most of the RP is on American servers. Is it better to go to one of them? (And if so, which?) Or should I go for an EU one? I'm up quite late so I don't think an American timezone would be too much trouble for the most part, but if there's very few europeans there then it would obviously be less fun in the long run. So any quick responses/info would be greatly appreciated!
