  1. To drag this back on topic: The Bloodsworn have a number of assiciated Grand Company leves for adventurers to hunt down and put down wanted targets. While there seem to be no Maelstrom equivalent of the Bloodsworn - the Storms' leves read "Maelstrom Command" - the Twin Adders' Red Otters ostensibly fill the same role as the Bloodsworn in that they are the elite soldiers.
  2. I was spiritbonding as WAR in Castrum last night wearing nothing but Gathering/Crafting gear on the left, i120/i130 STR and VIT accessories on the right, and a level 49 Labrys or something. My fellow tank was a more-than-properly-geared-for-the-instance PLD with Curtana Zenith, an i90 weapon. I was stealing/holding hate against him and a 5.7k hp WHM pocket healer. I was surviving despite a 4500hp-after-Defiance health pool and a 51 level disadvantage in weapon damage, partly thanks to said healer but mainly due to good cooldown usage (hello, Holmgang <3). Gear matters, but player skill matters more and difference in player skill, imo, can make up for some serious gear disparity. tl;dr: Know how to play your class.
  3. OP specifically mentioned Overpower.
  4. I don't see why not, though we'd have to work Kage into the LS ICly. That means running into him, (re-)establishing contact, justifying his addition as a benefit to the company, etc. Definitely doable though.
  5. I don't think dog tags as we have them, i.e. bits of metal with name, rank, etc. engraved and then put on a chain, exist in XIV. But the concept itself certainly does exist. [video=youtube]
  6. ...ouch. There's an explicit mention of dogtags made in a GSM leve, with regards to Wood Wailers receiving not tags but rings with their names and posts inscribed on the inside. http://xivdb.com/?leve/469/Dog-Tags-Are-for-Dogs "With so many new faces among the Wailers every day, we fear that time may come when we know not who it is among us that has fallen in service of the commonfolk. If every Wailer were given a ring, on the inside of which is inscribed his name and whence he hails, it would ease our fears." Since every GC has GC gear that includes a variety of rings, some of which seem specific to certain roles (I.F. have "Flamecarrier's Ring," for instance), I'd say that jewelry take the place of dog tags in the XIV setting.
  7. A few things I'd like to cover: 1. You probably were sorted into the instance with a pre-arranged party of three. That or you were dealt malcontents. 2. If your tank is having issues staying alive for whatever reason (be it poor play or poor gear), you should not be DPSing as a healer, especially not to the point where you are running out of mana. An exception is made if your damage dealers are the ones playing poorly by not killing things fast enough to alleviate pressure on you and the tank. 3. Tanks do have weird itemization at times before they hit level 50. This is particularly noticeable when wearing lower level gear will give you more defensive stats overall (I mean PhysDef and MagicDef, not Parry) than wearing a higher piece of gear that takes multiple slots (any variant on Heavy Iron, for example). The people you ran with were correct, to an extent, in saying that a MRD/WAR's weapon damage is most important since it is the key factor in whether they can hold aggro provided they know how to play their class. 4. MRD defensive cooldowns are sparse pre-WAR, and the ones they get suck (see: Foresight). This is even worse if they haven't cross-classed for skills like Awareness or Second Wind or Featherfoot (all of which are "meh" when cross-classed anyway). WAR only starts getting good defensive CDs once they hit 35, which is when they receive Inner Beast. 5. It sounds like the MRD in question hadn't leveled GLA for cross-classing Flash, which isn't necessary but does help alleviate TP concerns.
  8. Bryn, I'm not surprised how misinformed you are, given your obsession with prosthetics. Suppose that's what happens when you're incapable of getting the real thing. Warren, that's not how you use a phone. Howl, given the silent hiss, your name should be rightfully be House. Fits with the crystal meth theme, too.
  9. Bryn speaks from shameless experience... and then wonders why I roast her for it.
  10. Faye Covington walks into a room and the temperature drops a good fifty degrees.
  11. [Moderator Hardhat] Thread locked to prevent inevitable drama. [/Moderator Hardhat]
  12. Still need to chat with you, Nataru, but I think Mikh'a's gotten into contact with you already? Hoping to talk soon. The majority of us are U.S. Central Standard Time and U.S. Eastern Standard Time. We have at least one U.S. Pacific Standard Time player and at least one Central European (UTC+1) player. Translated into practical terms, this means that our "primetime," a.k.a. when our numbers peak, is during U.S. evenings / early European mornings. That said, we have folks logging in at all times of the day and night.
  13. I would issue myself a warning, but apparently that cannot be done. Why, I have no idea. Not sure if because it's myself or if moderators are immunized. I'll go get the whip from FreelanceWizard and take my lashings like a man.
  14. Immortal Flames here, we're a military and our primary purpose is to put down live Garleans. I put mine down. What happens afterwards is more a concern for the adventurer's guild, the Scions, and naive individuals who get shot point-blank. Can't you give the sultana your own regards? Honorable discharge.
  15. Of course, Ser Crofte. Give my regards to the sultana, will you?
  16. Ah, yes, "pride". That's what cost you folks a kingdom and decent living, aye? Let us know how that's working out for you. Kage, my condolences. As an expression of such, I will be sure to ring the retainer bells for you anytime I pass on by.
  17. Melodia, Kage, Delial: I've seen better roasts from pudgy puks, and they don't even breathe fire. Take lessons from Aya; she's far better at roasting than at faking accents, gods bless her. Bryn, dear, I don't eat where I shite, and men don't join the dogs under the table for scraps. Of course we midlanders are the superior race, you can tell by how early and how well we've integrated into Ul'dahn society! Mayhap when highlanders can learn how to rub two bronze pieces together, there won't be so many of them starving in Stonesthrow. Chachan, your monstrous abomination of a pet is more well-liked than you are. What does that say about you?
  18. The real reason they're named after cast steel is because they're built and meant to take a lot of abuse. That's why he stands on that rock with a look that screams "butthurt": the fewer steps he has to take, the less it hurts back there. Talk about sore. Your fellow Ala Mhigans would be devastated, Warren, but not so much as your ass, I think. As for Bryn. Well. There's a good reason we call you highlanders "Sea Wolf spawn," race traitor.
  19. Hells, I'm more than interested to meet up with more IC monks as well. A monk get-together sounds like a really fun concept. C-can initiates come too? Please?
  20. Love how Rhalgr's been worked in. Inspiration for Coeurlfist, perhaps? *wiggles eyebrows*
  21. Agreed, FFTA was great for having Moogles as a playable humanoid race. I'll echo a few sentiments here: you might not find acceptance from certain community members here regarding playing as a moogle, but there's nothing preventing you from doing so in forum posts so long as the moogle in question is of the FFXIV kind. Might stretch willing suspension of disbelief too far for some folks to play a FFTA-style moogle, even on the boards here, but that varies by individual, case by case basis and what-not.
  22. [Moderator Hardhat] Discussion seems to have run its course. There does seem to be room for several off-shoots on specific subjects. If anyone would like to discuss those matters further, please create a new thread, as I'll be locking this one now. ^^ [/Moderator Hardhat]
  23. [Moderator Hardhat] I split off / culled the links to tumblr (EDIT: along with associated griping). We're here to have a discussion, not to point fingers or to incite drama. If you can't take part without doing so, then please refrain from posting. (EDIT 2: Beast of habit. Next time, I'll let the posts sit and mod-note them for actions taken) [/Moderator Hardhat]
